    For me, the biggest crime against Legends books (besides not selling them) is when audiobooks of them are abridged. Nobody should be paying full price for only part of a book, I want the entire thing, and that's why I got into the Fate of the Jedi series before something like Legacy of the Force because the former isn't chopped up. Also the narrator is really good.

      @@AshanBhatoa It's kind of a pitfall of getting so many new TV shows and films now, so understandably the novels would take a backseat to being the main driver of the post-film story. Stories back in the day like Mando were told primarily through the novels, so to say that the new canon's novels are on the same tier as the old canon's doesn't really make sense. Young Jedi Knights would be told as a TV show. Vector Prime or Star by Star would only occur in a crossover event or a feature length film. That's just the new motto. The positive tradeoff is, evidently, getting a full visual production of an important story. The negative tradeoff is that none of the new canon novels feel important to the overall narrative at all. There's some good stories of course (High Republic, Lost Stars, Thrawn Ascendancy come to mind) but none of them are really substantial or anything more than periphery material. The old EU had a good balance of important stories being told across ALL mediumsé

    • @NathanCassidy721
      @NathanCassidy721 2 роки тому

      The big problem I have with e-books is they are digital. And when you have a digital market, it makes it very easy for someone to edit out parts they don’t like no matter how obvious.
      A lot of movie buffs were sounding the alarm when they noticed some movies from the ‘80s were getting stealth edits on streaming services. For no other reason than they have “problematic elements”.
      As a guy who also advocates preservation, going physical is the best way to preserve these classics. If for no other reason to make sure the digital experience is authentic.

    Perhaps it's time for Star Wars fans to start making media conservation sites. If Disney's going to take away the history of the brand, the history must be saved before it's too late. If copies of these books are saved online, then people can continue to read them and enjoy the stories they tell for years to come, preserving the community around said IP.
    Just look at Lego Bionicle. The theme's been gone for years. Lego mostly tries to ignore it. But there's still a strong fan community, building new Lego creations, 3D printing new parts, and even making their own media in the form of movies, video games, and tabletop games. And it's all supported by a massive community effort to preserve the brand's history. Go on to Mask of Destiny, Bionicle Wiki, or Bionicle Sector 01 and you can find all sorts of resources to learn the story of Bionicle. If you want to learn the story, all you have to do is go to Wall of History on the Mask of Destiny home page, where, to my knowledge, every chapter and comic book about Bionicle is preserved.
    There are no new sets of Bionicle going on to shelves. Lego doesn't seem to care about it anymore. But the fanbase is alive, and stronger than many of the others I've known, in large part because the community took the time to preserve what they were given. And if the same care is given to Star Wars, I believe that this fanbase can survive the dark age it seems to be going through as well.

      Well to be fair, I moved from Warhammer from Star Wars. I say it is slightly easier to get the core 40k books then Star Wars EU books.
      The only franchise I think that is somehow worse is Magic, who has stopped outright reprinting their books and sometimes only printed one edition.
      You can get 40k books and ebooks. Their problem is GW is just evil british disney and profit gouge the fuck out of us fans. The only hard books to get are the rarer novellas or one-off stories that are not Horus Heresy or modern 40k.

    This is why I feel Disney has just turned Star Wars into a War of the Fandom. There really is no reason that they couldn't keep the old Canon (yes I understand they can be messy because some books and short stories don't always fit perfectly, but I would have assumed that would have been someone's job at Lucasarts to keep track of that stuff) other than it didn't fit J.J. Abram's fan script.

    I grew up on those stories!!!! I remember I ran I to a guy at the comic book store who did too. You're absolutely right, most people who weren't around in the 90s missed out. I will say it's only flaw seemed that it seemed to get a little convoluted toward the end, but hell, it's 14 books. It's tough to keep being creative after a certain point. But it's a shame, if more people knew about these books, they'd be more upset with the disappointment of 7, 8, and 9 and frustrated with what we could have had. Jaina picking up Han's natural affinity for mechanics. And Jacen's connection with wildlife through the force, their younger brother Anakin dealing with the weight of his grandfather's legacy being his namesake but still afraid to fall to the dark side like him. And then as the reader sitting back and realizing how each of their life choices affect the others, the series is truly well done. You can tell how they took attributes from the 7 8 and 9 characters directly from these stories. And don't worry...... Nobody ever inexplicably says "Somehow....... Palpatine returned...."

    I bet Disney is going to make Lucasfilm give Young Jedi Knights the Tales-of-the-Jedi-treatment... They will probably make an animated series/comic book run that will feature Yoda, young Dooku, young Qui-Gon Jinn or young Obi-Wan Kenobi, slap the "Young Jedi Knights" brand on it (up to a point that the logo would be almost the same), and I bet they will manage to shove Ashoka Tano, Kanan Jarrus, Kal Kestis and TCW jedi younglings into it somehow, and they will behave like the Legends book series never even happened... -_-
    And there certainly will be prominent, vocal members of fandom that would still applaud them for "because it is now all connected" BS, "insider info" perks or exclusive early viewing to a 276th-minor-background-DisneySW-character-movie/show... -_-
