Bonus items, skins, etc.

You could describe basically anything you do in Old School RuneScape as “wasting your time”. Leveling a skill to the maximum level takes dozens or hundreds of hours of repetitive grinding - the real kind of grinding, where you’re doing the exact same actions over and over. Obtaining rare items can require killing the same enemies for upwards of thousands of times over, with some extreme cases like the Dragon warhammer taking some players over *25,000 kills* to land a successful drop. Movement is restrictive and tedious, especially early on, with running draining an energy meter and requiring you to wait a long period for it to restore. Run energy is also affected by carry weight, meaning the more heavy things you have equipped and in your inventory, the faster you lose energy, which forces players to manage their equip load and gather energy restoring potions. Every single aspect of the game’s design is crafted in a way that would have people say, “This is a waste of my time.” And yet it’s the best game of all time and has outlived most other live services in the 23 years it’s been online. It’s so weird how RuneScape makes its entire gameplay loop a chore, like many modern video games, yet is regarded as one of the most beloved MMOs in history.
Old School Runescape is different because while there is a lot of waiting around for our characters to chop logs or catch fish it all feels necessary. I played for 2.5 years getting to max level and I don't regret a second of it
The only time I'd agree that I felt like a 3D Zelda game was wasting my time was in Totk when I was trying to complete the underground. It was fun for a while, but after you discover like 2/3 of the map it just keeps on repeating stuff you've already seen, but you don't want to stop because you're thinking there might be another unique element in there that's worth exploring. Which actually might be true, depending on what parts you explored previously, but in my case it was just the same old things over and over for the last third of it, so by the time I fully explored it, it did feel like wasting time.

Recently i modded my switch and for the first time i was able to experience cheats in a game and it was amazing, ppl may judged me for it but if the game is intentionally making something tedious i can't enjoy it.
Fr though, any game could be considered a waste of time and some of your examples are weird, it's not about how quickly the devs rush you through the contents. It's about having fun, running around with epona was fun, completing a hard game was fun. Your entertainment in general is not a waste of time.
I agree that Aw2 is maybe a little too long, but i find alan wake 1 more tedious to get through than AW2,like i was rushing through the first one at some points, while in AW2 i just keep taking a lot of time to explore, read, watch the ads from the brothers and shit like that lol
The FF7 Rebirth open world stuff would be fine if it wasn't for Chadley interrupting you every single time. Cloud has to take out the phone thing, boot up chadley, watch his dumb looped face spout exposition, put the phone away. Even if you skip through it, which I am guessing most people did, it still seems like it adds hours to a game that's already long.
AC Odyssey was i game i wished would end as soon as possible, I was on PC and hacked in those dumb Time Savers, Helix Store and Material Stuff for free and i still didn’t feel satisfied AC Valhalla was a game i immediately dropped and never plan to play ever again or finish. The long games that were worth every hour were Red Dead Redemption 2, Breath of the Wild and Immortals Fenyx Rising
The true ending for Middle Earth: Shadow of War was one of the biggest endgame slogs back when in had heavy microtransactions. It was probably longer than the main story.
Between Rebirth and Remake, Remake EASILY takes the cake for which one I felt wasted my time more. I'm still playing Rebirth, but I haven't felt like Rebirth really wasted my time and I'm almost at chapter 8. By chapter 8 of Remake, I was already starting to feel annoyed.
3:25 Despite being interested in an Ancient Greek setting, this is what made me quit. Why is it a side quest if I have to do it. It got to the point where I was horrendously underlevelled, so was getting absolutely destroyed. Silent hill 4 basically makes you play all the levels again, but just with a crappy AI companion.
Okay, you definitely shouldve made this video post release of the DQ3 HD2D Remake. That game was phenomenal and didnt waste a single minute of my time, at least. Would love to see an updated perspective at least about the DQ3 remake lol. And definitely agree with you about Rebirth. Ive never played a FF game before rebirth and I could tell they were wasting time w some of the side content and the entire Cait Sith section.
I agree with you. Some games waste your time with repetitive quests and missions, and this is one of the main reasons I always check online how long it takes to complete the main quest before playing any game. Anything over 30 hours, I try to avoid, unless I really enjoy the game, like *Elden Ring* or Zelda: Breath of the Wild*. I spent over 100 hours on *Horizon Forbidden West after completing the main quest in under 35 hours because I enjoyed the environment, the variety of enemies, and the different areas. I play games only when I don't have anything else to do, so I can really enjoy my time. I don't rush to complete games-I take my time. Usually, I complete 2 or 3 games at most each year
I think a long game can be valuable to people who can't afford a lot of games, I know when I was a kid, a 100-hour RPG sounded amazing, but now it's intimidating because I have thousands of games to play. Some people really click/connect with a particular gameplay. My sisters liked Breath of the Wild because it was relaxing to them, like a cozy game, but it was one of my least favorite Zelda games. I've finished a lot of games wishing there was more to do, even if it was just beating up mobs of enemies. I just like existing in that game world. Part of the charm of these games is the chill atmosphere and turning these games into an after-work ritual. There are some games that pair well with a TV show or something like that. Many games are so story-heavy or action-packed that it demands your full attention all the time, that can be rough too imo
@@colewarnerreviews5834 eventually! At this time though I am likely going to wait for at least 1 more game to come out. We know of at least 2 more games in development at this time so I will just chill
For me personally, I thought Gears of War 5 campaign was one of the most drawn out boring and lengthy campaigns I’ve ever played. They really took way too long to get to the point.
I've been slowly playing the it with a friend all year lol. We're in the final part and I think another session or 2 will let us finish it. I've enjoyed it so far. I like it better than 4. 3 is the best though. And I'm excited for E-Day.
Taking your time means also enjoy the moment; just think about Persona 5. Im agree with that concept. I also know that some game waist your time on a purpose to make the game way longer. But here is what my list would like… Every mobile or multiplayer/online game with micro transactions and no real plot, point or ending. 😈
I’m in my late 40’s and I’ve got no patience for games like this now. My favorite games of the last 5 years are all games you can finish in less than 10 hours. Astro Bot, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, Super Mario Bros Wonder, etc. At this point I don’t even consider buying a game if I hear it’s more than 25 hours long. The industry has sadly become obsessed with making games longer and longer, and reviewers are partly to blame for this. No one wants their game to get the dreaded “short “ label, so what do you get? More padding and filler.
Great video, great examples. idk why there are so many dislikes. The most recent example for me was the Silent Hill 2 remake. The original has fantastic pacing, but they really stretched the story thin in the remake with excessive combat and lame puzzles just to make people feel better dropping $80+ on a single player game. also i cant stand RDR2.
@@someguy8951 and? there's nothing wrong if someone likes the game. you're missing the point. My point is that the majority of modern games add needless padding to fill out and make the purchase feel more justifiable. When it's a remake of a game known for strong pacing it's even more noticeable with constant mannequins and lame escape room puzzles. Nostalgia and hype are powerful. It'll die down.
@@panterxbeats Well I mean, games had padding back then as well and it really just depends how it's done. With the SH2R the majority of the people like it because it develops on aspects of the original, and if the game was 8-10 hours like the original and cost as much as it does now, people would complain. What I'm saying is that yeah, the remake is longer than the original but that isn't always a bad thing.
I agree with death stranding only if you’re trying to platinum it.. I actually really loved the rpg ac games.. I might be biased because origins was my introduction to the series..I’ve platinumed all three yes Valhalla included and I platinumed mirage which wasn’t bad at all..I got addicted to the gameplay loops in them but going for the platinum is a chore after awhile lol I’ve platinumed both ff7 remakes and the first one for sure became a chore. Going for the platinum on metaphor right now then plan on “playing” all the personas. The turn based combat and gameplay loop of the Atlus games finally clicked for me.
You should make a top 10 great games with terrible gameplay. I might get killed for this but The Last of Us is hard carried by its story. It has some of the most generic and repetitive gameplay I’ve ever played. But the story is so good that you put up with it because you want to see what happens next.
I might be insane for this but I actually liked the combat in God of War 2018. I only mention it because a lot of people don't like the gameplay in that game.
Grim Fandango for me The characters, story and art are all amazing, but the gameplay is full of “how was I supposed to know this?” puzzles and moving around feels awkward.
That and the misery simulator are the two reasons I'll probably never replay the first one and never finish the second haha. I just finished Resident Evil 4 Remake and while the story is obviously inferior to that of TLOU, I was having so much fun all throughout the experience with the tight gameplay and amazing visuals, I'll very probably replay it in a couple years just for the blast it is to experience and it will also definitely stay with me a lot more as well just because of that!
My complain about TLoU is the opposite. I don't think the story is as amazing as people tend to tell. Don't get me wrong, it is a good story, but TWD 1 from Telltale did the same thing that TLoU proposed to do and IMO it did better

I tried to think about a video game I love but that wasted my time. FFX came in my mind... To beat the big bosses (Der Richter or some beasts at the train camp), you have to train so much, it's a nightmare.
I remember as a kid playing "ocarina of time" getting so excited collecting all 200 skulptulas. Will I get a new sword or shield? Maybe link will get a new costume? No, what do i get for all my hard work? A bigger wallet to hold my rupees.. ohh.. yay 😒 Biggest waste of time I ever spent in a video game
Actually there are only 100 gold skulltullas and you'll need 50 to get every heart in the game. The last reward is a 200 rupee which is indeed worthless but this is a side quest which isn't that important anyways so Ocarina of Time is far from a game that wastes your time.
is there a game that DOESN'T waste your time? I mean.. they're all games.. so playing ANY OF THEM is time and energy that you take away from your own REAL LIFE lmfao
RE4 Remake. I love the game, but it repeats scenarios too much. They could definitely shave a couple hours off it. The original moves at a better pace for me.
I just finished Persona 3 reload and I loved it mostly. It was my first persona and it took me about 100 hours to finish. I was thinking about trying P4G, are the dungeons better?
@@troywallace7011 I personally recommend p5r more but you can play whichever you want it doesn't really matter, just keep in mind that p4g hasn't gotten a modern remake yet so it's kinda outdated, while p5r is closer to p3r.
How is the stuff in the overworld not adding to the worldbuilding in rebirth? Ever since the original, the focus was the planet and the extra stuff makes you explore the planet.
I wholeheartedly agree with the Alan Wake II inclusion. To preface, I haven’t played the first one yet, but II has become one of my all time favorite survival horrors. The Mind Place segments were very cool as you said up till about the halfway mark. Every single little lore piece being a clue gets tiring. To the point where to speed up the process, I would place the pictures into the area it’s supposed to go before the dialogue would finish for the last clue placed. I also wasn’t a fan of the movement speed coupled with the need for backtracking. Irritating that after getting one clue, I get to spend the next 7 minutes trying to get back to the goddamn car, avoiding enemies so as to speed up the process.
The last somewhat decent Assassin's Creed game I played is Origins, but even then, the game is filled to the brim with filler stuff I think most if not every Assassin's Creed games has always been like this. And Persona 3 is still my favourite in the Persona series even if it's jammed up with filler stuff TBH.
I have only not played the first creed game, but every one of them has a ton of side stuff that isn't necessary. Seems like some games fix that by having less towers, to climb or at least make them faster to climb, less collectibles, while others made the map so big it takes a long time just to travel.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake part 2 really wastes your time with the pointless region activities they are boring unnecessary
They're fully optional
Wasting time is one of the top things I consider when judging if a game is good or not.
AC Odyssey was i game i wished would end as soon as possible, I was on PC and hacked in those dumb Time Savers, Helix Store and Material Stuff for free and i still didn’t feel satisfied
AC Valhalla was a game i immediately dropped and never plan to play ever again or finish.
80% RPG games that like take 20 to 60 hours complete
Between Rebirth and Remake, Remake EASILY takes the cake for which one I felt wasted my time more. I'm still playing Rebirth, but I haven't felt like Rebirth really wasted my time and I'm almost at chapter 8. By chapter 8 of Remake, I was already starting to feel annoyed.
the goat has returned once more
3:25 Despite being interested in an Ancient Greek setting, this is what made me quit.
I've platinumed assassin's Creed Odyssey and it was so much fun to waste some time in it 😂
Great game. Loved it too
I love love love mystery Dungeon. Especially sky.
Forgot red dead redemption 2
that game was on the prior vid, about games that dont respect your time. Totally would be on here otherwise
@TotallyTubularJonathan oh okay I see, my bad
@@TotallyTubularJonathan are you going to do an updated ranking of the silent hill games at some point with the new one?
I disagree again. I love death stranding. I'm excited for the sequel
He liked it too. It does waste time in some way or another. Nonetheless it's a beautiful game. The sequel is my #1 most hyped
Tubular video! Definitely not a waste of time
You always respect my time Johnathan ❤️
Odyssey was a pain at the 100 hour mark. It made me despise the game despite enjoying the initial hours.
Taking your time means also enjoy the moment; just think about Persona 5. Im agree with that concept. I also know that some game waist your time on a purpose to make the game way longer. But here is what my list would like… Every mobile or multiplayer/online game with micro transactions and no real plot, point or ending. 😈
I felt the same way when I played Dead Space Remake just wanted it to be over
I’m in my late 40’s and I’ve got no patience for games like this now.
Sure, but the silent hill 2 remake was still very well received.
@@someguy8951 and?
@@panterxbeats Majority didn't feel bad about dropping $80+ on it.
Yo jonny, make a part 2 to this video brotha. We need more jonny boy.❤
Tubular! Love the vids
Whole AW2 felt like a waste of time, but the most egregious part was final evidence room section with Saga
The Transformers Devastation reference made me laugh. Tubular!
100% agree with you, one of the reasons I’ve never replayed or wanted to replay TLOU
Grim Fandango for me
The characters, story and art are all amazing, but the gameplay is full of “how was I supposed to know this?” puzzles and moving around feels awkward.
Another fantastic video by Totally Tubular Jonathan
I agree on anything except your take on mgsv
I'm an mgsv fan
I;m biased
Just discovered your channel and subscribed! Trying to keep up with work and playing games can be tough to balance, so a future video which showcases great games that Do not waste your time would be life changing! 😊😊. Keep up the great videos bro!
I tried to think about a video game I love but that wasted my time. FFX came in my mind... To beat the big bosses (Der Richter or some beasts at the train camp), you have to train so much, it's a nightmare.
Dude final fantasy is huge on this list. Really good, but every one (that I’ve played) has so much filler
What was the game at the beginning of the video? Looks like Re
In Death Stranding, its necessary cuz we're building the world.
Pretty much any of the Yakuza games. but i love em anyway!!
I remember as a kid playing "ocarina of time" getting so excited collecting all 200 skulptulas.
Will I get a new sword or shield? Maybe link will get a new costume? No, what do i get for all my hard work? A bigger wallet to hold my rupees.. ohh.. yay 😒
Biggest waste of time I ever spent in a video game
Actually there are only 100 gold skulltullas and you'll need 50 to get every heart in the game.
The last reward is a 200 rupee which is indeed worthless but this is a side quest which isn't that important anyways so Ocarina of Time is far from a game that wastes your time.
@kevinfromsales9445 man bro.. it must suck to be you, huh?
@kevinfromsales9445 dude, does it just suck being you?
@@KatsuKingTV Just sharing some facts about the game don't be mad for being wrong lol
@kevinfromsales9445 not mad, you're just another boring loser
is there a game that DOESN'T waste your time? I mean.. they're all games..
so playing ANY OF THEM is time and energy that you take away from your own REAL LIFE lmfao
Same could be said about watching movies or any other hobbies
Yes. All the games I play with my friends together on a couch in real life. I think many young gamers don't even know what this is.
THE GOAT HAS RETURNED
Love the intro lmao. Smooth.
I hate your timestamps. NAME THE GAME. Quit doing this BS where you try to be funny b/c it actually and honestly WASTES OUR TIME.
Include Elden Ring. Go ahead, no seriously you need to do so much stuff before you get an optimal build
No red dead is nuts brother. I was waiting for that lol
Great video. Tubular!
The game is only wasting time if it starts to feel like its dragging
Never beat Wind Waker as a kid cause of the triforce hunt; had to revisit many years later
Tears of the Kingdom was a great gaming experience and i do agree some of the filler stuff could be annoying.
Alan Wake 2 i platinumed and 100% both DLc’s and I never had fun. No idea why I bothered
RE4 Remake. I love the game, but it repeats scenarios too much. They could definitely shave a couple hours off it. The original moves at a better pace for me.
Agree with Final Fantasy
I just finished Persona 3 reload and I loved it mostly. It was my first persona and it took me about 100 hours to finish. I was thinking about trying P4G, are the dungeons better?
P4G has slightly better dungeons but not much better, P5R is where persona finally has normal dungeons with puzzles etc, I recommend that one as well.
@@kostasspirou1010 Yeah I heard P5R was the best but I wanted to play 3 4 and 5. Do you think I should play 4 or 5 next?
@@troywallace7011 I personally recommend p5r more but you can play whichever you want it doesn't really matter, just keep in mind that p4g hasn't gotten a modern remake yet so it's kinda outdated, while p5r is closer to p3r.
@@kostasspirou1010 Sounds good, thanks for the recommendation. I will play 5 next and see if I'm still craving more Persona
Believe me, Odyssey is way worse. Origins is atleast endable for less than 80 hours despite doing side quests
This was quite the TUBULAR list
