so the black power wire you cut will be spliced back together with a wire nut? I was replacing a bulb in mine and saw the black wire was frayed and the inside exposed only because i felt a mild current when i touched it ..do you think it woud be alright to cut that black wire and wire nut it together even though there is nothing wrong with my fan. i feel it might be dangerous if it is not fixed.
Before any repair, ensure that power to the light/fan is off! The repair you mention should be possible. A simpler fix might be to carefully wrap electrical tape around the affected area. Good catch on your part and yes, it should be repaired to prevent an electrical shock or fire. Good luck!

When I took the switch apart the wires were already disconnected so I have no idea how they go back together.....ideas?

Hi.
My fan is a bit different,there r 4 wires coming out of the windings thing -blue,red,brown and grey/purple
Do u know what they mean?
U see,I wanted to remove the lights from my ceiling fan and after I did I dont remember where the wires were connected!
(I fell like such an IDIOT!!!)
