I hate when people say GarageBand is as toy. I am 50 years old and in my younger days back in the late 80s I was using a FOSTEX X26 4 track recorder. I never considered that a toy despite it only being a 4 track recorder. GB is more powerful than any reel to reel tape recorder, more powerful than any hard disk recorder, despite those were the recording devices of the day. So if Reel to Reel and Hard disk recorders are not considered toys, why do people consider GB a toy???? IT makes zero sense, and these people don’t know the history of recording and where it was as oppose to now a days. Make no mistake GarageBand and BandLab are powerful powerful DAW. Audacity is even a powerful DAW, and you can make professional albums on GB, BandLab, and Audacity.
100%. We live in the future and I’m equally annoyed by such claims. Plus… the prod is in the music! And the end listener simply doesn’t care what platform was used to make it.
This is my personal opinion. First of all, I'm a drummer, therefore my work can be much more limited than that of a traditional musician, but in any case I want to share my personal experience, maybe it can be useful to someone. I bought recently and iPad pro with the Magic Keyboard. My main work with this iPad is to write down MIDI sections of my band's songs (plus writing drum scores with goodnotes, organizing everything in one single device, etc.). With my band I play djent/modern progressive metal (so songs with multiple time signature changes). At first I was full of prejudices against Garageband, so I tried Auria Pro first and then Cubasis 3. Both uninstalled (using the refund option). The truth is that with Garageband you probably don't have the amount of options you can have with the other two aforementioned DAWs, but you have an ease of use and ESPECIALLY, which is essential for me, a NATIVE integration with the Magic Keyboard that in this moment I cannot find anywhereelse in the iOs panorama. Editing MIDI with the trackpad is currently a unique pain, if not with Garageband. I had started biased against it, and in the end I found myself willingly using it, not spending half a euro. In my opinion now the priority for these DAWs (which you pay, remember) and their programmers must be to integrate with the new hardware available. Otherwise they are objectively something out of date.

One thing I will say about Steinberg from my (fairly brief) Dorico experience is that you can talk directly to the devs on the forums. They really listen and that is something that you don‘t get everywhere.
Some recommendations for music producers on iOS. Audio recording and MIDI DAWs: Cubasis 2/3, Auria/Auria Pro, GarageBand (obviously) Beat making: BeatMaker 3, Akai iMPC Pro 2, Blocswave, Chompler. Electronic music production: FL Studio Mobile, Cubasis 2/3, NanoStudio 2. Other production apps which have a simple interface and workflow: Groovebox, iMaschine 2, Reason Compact, Figure. Enjoy making music and a great weekend to all of you guys and girls!
I forgot Korg Gadget 2. Great DAW/Groovebox with MIDI and audio recording (guitars for example). It’s a paid app but you can download Korg Gadget 2 LE for free to try it out (with limitations of course).
Pete Johns Yeah there are even a lot more. I own all mentioned music applications plus a lot more. Also too many plug-ins haha. But for starters, GarageBand is a great DAW to begin with!
Nice one! Really keen to hear what you do with it. I think we are quite similar in our recording experience and style so will be great to hear your progress.
Starting out by importing the 'dry' stems of one of my existing songs out of GB and into CB3, see if I can remix this track. Just to get familiar with CB3. Btw: I have been looking for the 'Pete Johns of Cubasis 3' on UA-cam, but haven't found him/her. Do you have any recommendations for CB3 references?
I like Garageband for composing music, Cubasis for recording vocals and mixing, and Auria Pro for in-depth audio editing. I learned each DAW has specific features that are very useful to me.
Thanks my friend. Appreciate your kind words and support. And I hope you get value from the other videos on the channel and consider subscribing if you haven’t already. 👍
Looking forward to this Pete, inevitably a lot of people in write-ups of GB for iOS/iPadOS, begin by stipulating it is free software. That sets a certain tone it has to be said, but as you know, this is an entirely misleading way to view GarageBand. You are exceptional at properly explaining the fundamentals, and I found Auria’s strength is perhaps it looks like the ‘big boys’ do on Mac or PC, but that’s exactly why I find it the hardest to do anything with. Cubasis in terms of general usability, is exactly midway between the GB approach and the more obscure Auria Pro. I have all of them, and it is strange then that in the end, I released three singles using GB, which was sat on the ipad all along! Thanks, getting stuck in now...!
Nice one! Yes, it’s so interesting that I have all three now but just gravitate back to GB naturally. I’m sure I’ll experiment with the others in the future but for now I’m so quick with GarageBand that it’s the most efficient way for me to produce.
Excellent Job Pete. …I have been writing songs and commercials since the early 1970’s. I find that Garage band for ios is a perfect system to write your basic template for a song…..it is quick, very easy to use , and it can e uploaded to Logic to iron out and fish the project……To me, the song itself is of the utmost importance…..Simplicity I like , plus the plugins are adequate……I own all of the above DAWS for my Ipad pro 12.9………..They are all very, very good and the sound quality is very good also…..I ffind auria pro a little buggy at the moment, but,,,,,,getting better………Take care of yourself and that cough……Peace.
Five great pluses for Cubasis and none of the five downsides are relevant for me, so … I think I might be picking up Cubasis real soon. Thanks for the detail Pete, it really helps.
I already bought Cubasis 3 ( can't resist a good sale $$$) so I'll have it if I need more options. I'll skip Auria Pro. If I need a full DAW, I do have Cakewalk on the PC so I don't see the need for a full DAW on my iPad. Thanks for those series Pete, it was very enlightening. Cheers and I'll see you on the next Studio Live!
Nice one my friend! Yes, I didn’t want to say Auria doesn’t have a place. If you love desktops DAWs but want the portability of the iPad, it’s a no brainier. But my workflow definitely sits more in the Cubasis world. For now at least anywayz
I appreciate all the features these other DAW’s have, and I feel the pain with GarageBand’s limitations. That said, GarageBand just makes it easier to get ideas out and has the best workflow for me. Good show Pete!
GarageBand looks great but hangs or crashes for me, with audio units, anyway. Tried it a few times but I keep uninstalling it because it's using space. :)
DrinkinSlim Thats a bummer. Did you upgrade to iOS 14? Lots of music production apps have issues. They will worked out eventually by the developers. May I ask you what device you are using?
So is the only way to use the auto drummer and other virtual instruments to essentially build the individual tracks in garage band then convert them to an audio file to load up in Cubasis? Wish that Apple would make them into AUv3 downloads so I could just load them in that way. Really love the simplicity of using auto drummer over the drum machine style of doing things. So much faster and easier.
Been hearing that Logic may come to iPad in a few year. I’m not holding my breath, but that would be fantastic if it happens and is done well. This is a great video comparison!
Cubasis3 really is the 1 DAW to have on a deserted island. I personally just go to Auria Pro for the video track, when I wanna synch or score something. And Garage Band became my baby that I left a few years ago. Really good review Pete, you really outdid yourself this time.
Back in the ‘90s, I was using Cakewalk on a desktop PC, and I miss some of the features I had there, like the MIDI scripting. I miss the synth patch library app that I had, which would take prohibitive costs to recreate on my iPad. Anyway, fast forward to 2019 and I want an iPad DAW, to introduce my daughters to the fun of creating your own music. Youngest daughter has an idea for a song… it has a time signature change in the middle of the chorus (a bar of 3/4). Well that’s it then - only Auria Pro gives me the option of inserting different time signatures in the middle of a song. My message is that sooner or later, a more limited DAW will frustrate something I want to do, so it has to be the fully-featured Auria Pro for me and I’ll just have to commit to the learning curve. In my experience, Auria Pro is actually very touch-friendly; especially scrolling around, cutting and cross-fading my recorded tracks. One problem I’ve found with Auria Pro - the tap-to-set-tempo function doesn’t really work. It should average the tempo across a series of taps, but it doesn’t. Thanks for your in-depth review. Wish you’d done it when I was researching which DAW to buy. Keep up the good work.
Cheers my friend. And thanks for your feedback. Yes, I did this series exactly for folks in your position as I get asked about this a lot. Now I can provide a semi-educated opinion!
After having the same ipad for about a decade.. I can NOT believe, now that one ten years (approx) newer is on the way, that Optimizing Performance is still a thing! GB is great.. am looking forward to BandLab on my new one tho.. the platform independence is such a relief.. very useful and informative as always Mr.Pete! Ty.
Grateful do a video on how to use Cubasis on both ipad and iPhone. Like how to work on a project on one device, then continue on another device, and back and forth.
Auria pro is such a pain having to route the midi keyboard around vs cubasis. Also I noticed cubasis records my vocals cleaner out of the box without clicks and pops. It's almost as if I want to say that Auria pro is a waste of money but I"m sure it will teach me more about the technical side of things when I find roadblocks in cubasis 3 that can be done with Auria Pro. For now Cubasis 3 speaks to me while Auria argues imposing its own way lol And Garageband is garageband... it's a sin if it's not in every ipad since like Pete said there are touch things that are just cool with Garageband.
Logic on a proper computer with Logic remote or side car and a brand new iPad Pro m1 in both plenty of ram . It’s the best choice . Especially if you started with GarageBand.👽
Not to overcomplicate matters, but yet another Steinberg DAW I just installed yesterday is MusicStudio, the full version of which is much simpler to use than Cubasis. Just thought it worth a mention and, yes, I know this is from a year ago, but...
What are the differences for 1. More than 1 time signature in 1 song, 2. Playing midi out and recording its audio from a synth, 3. Automation of tempo . Sorry to ask but these things I need when composing progressive rock songs😉
I gotta admit i didn't watch this video at the time but it really makes u think. All of them are great. I like Auria being like desktop DAWs. I like GB but im starting to wonder if i should switch to laptop/desktop or stay on ios? Auria is really interesting....
GB is no toy! I’m a big believer in KiSS! That’s another reason I keep coming back to GB. Yes it has its faults, but Cubasis can be very unstable and Auria!
Thanks for the kind words. And thanks for the heads up on the ads. Apologies for that. Seems I left he mid-roll ads an “automatic” and this is what UA-cam thinks is acceptable! I have gone back and removed most of them. Appreciate the heads up.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Hi Pete, thanks for the update. Just to let you know, I’ve just finished watching your playlist on Cubasis 3 and it is a fantastic set of videos introducing the product. If you have a Cubasis 3 course on Udemy or one of the other platforms, I’d certainly be interested in buying it.
Never thought I’d see “Optimizing Performance” again, but it automatically records in 3 or 4 repetitions that I’ve discovered across the measurements and never intended. One song has been automatically erased even though the DAW was put to bed correctly. It’s just doing things all on it’s own....AND....the recording track wall that goes up when you sure don’t want to. I’m going backwards with GB. I never wanna see “Optimizing Performance” again unless it’s automatically mixing and we know that’s not the case. It’s a really good looking DAW though.
I have Cubasis 2. I can deal with less modern and fewer bugs, after seeing what the total cost of Cubasis 3 is with all the IAPs. I noticed, also, that all the In-App Purchases in Cubasis 3 are exactly the same as those in Cubasis 2. As for Auria Pro, it appears I've already bought all the In-App Purchases. Hmmm, maybe Auria Pro is the one to use, then. Decisions, decisions....
@@PeteJohnsMusic I have subscribed now. To be honest, and provide some market feedback for you, I kind of had you pigeon-holed as 'the GarageBand guy'. After years of using GB on laptop, I am having way more fun in AUM these days. GB kept me stuck in a very old school approach to songwriting/recording, whereas all the beatmaking, synths, and randomization apps on iOS have brought me happily into the EDM world. When I first migrated over to iOS, I went straight to GB, but immediately found it to be too full of 'hand-holding'. Ick! Tried AudioBus. Yuck. So happy AUM exists; it's home now. But... I still want a DAW to move from sketching out ideas in AUM to finalizing songs. I've read so much about how buggy CB3 is still that I didn't bite when it was on sale a week ago.Your opinion on CB3's bugginess? Does AP integrate with AUM well in terms of sending the recording out from AUM, and loading all the same AUv3s you can in AUM, like Atom2, Rozeta, synths, etc? Can you automate the mixer? I guess I need to watch your video on AP!
the prpblem with gb is that while you're recording an audio track you're not allowed to see the track recording wave going on, the program shows you a useless screen. its really a shame that is not like the laptop version.
Pete Johns Gotta tell you that after spending a little time working with Cubasis, I created a piece that sounded more professional than anything I’ve ever created in GB, which has been my main iOS DAW for a few years and which I am much more familiar with. But I recorded lead parts on my Strat over Cubasis virtual instruments and was very impressed with the results. Just sayin’, spend the time with it and you may consider converting 😄
I’ve used countless daws, mobile and desktop and all I can say cubasis is amazing It is so cheap for everything you need so many presets and plugins are so cheap amazing just amazing would suggest Edit: I agree and disagree with auria pro looking like desktop it does but doesn’t all I can say cubasis looks a lot like cubase
Thanks for this great video ..... I like features of them all ... but I am sticking to GB iOS ... it is familiar and easy and has the best virtual instruments ..... when my studio is set up properly, I will also get recording again with GB on my Mac (which I bought it for a couple of years ago!) as I like the 27" screen! But I will always also use the iPad and GB iOS. Keep doing your videos Pete! :)
Hey Pete - great series of videos. Really enjoyed learning from your experiences. I’ve got Cubasis 2 and thinking of moving up to Cubasis 3 as it continues to improve. I know you can’t (yet) work with audio tracks in NanoStudio 2, but otherwise how would you think it compares to the three DAWs you covered here?
Yeah, I really only focused on these because I needed to cut off somewhere and have heard that things like Beatmaker and Nano don’t handle audio recording well (or at all), which is a deal breaker for me.
Hi again, Pete. In the chat I asked if you'd used Cubasis 3 or Auria Pro with a keyboard. I meant a QWERTY keyboard. I have an Apple Smart Cover keyboard attached to my iPad 3 and the keys don't seem to do anything in either app. I was wondering if I was missing a trick.
Yeah right. I haven’t explored using the qwerty keyboard actually. GarageBand doesn’t support it and I’m not sure about these. I’ll play around and if I come across any insights I’ll let you know. But I wouldn’t bank on either supporting qwerty.
Aye bro big love from Nairobi Kenya I've been a big time user of FL,very experienced with it, and i thought it was time to venture into other softwares as even though i still keep FL,now where im getting issues, can i use external sounds in Cubasis 3?🤔 Like drums ,snares hi hats, i feel much of the default sounds sound old school
Hey Pete! Great comparison! I have a question still though. Which daw comes with the best/most realistic midi drum instrument and sample packs? I’ve been scouring reddit and various forums in search of a professional midi sampler for drums that works on iOS (like kontakt player, superior drummer 3, etc). One with various custom sample packs that I can buy, with rotating samples for the different velocity hits on each of the drums and cymbals. There isn’t really anything comparable to the realistic drum sampler options for desktop DAWs. At this point, it seems like if I want to venture outside the drum kits integrated in GB iOS, I’m looking at a desktop setup. I would enjoy watching a full video just dedicated to midi drums in each of these DAWs. Cheers man!
Hey there. So Auria Pro has an in-app purchase caked “Drumagog” hi h my friend Jade Starr uses and raves about. I’ll find a video where she demonstrates it and throw it below, or just do some searches here on UA-cam. ua-cam.com/video/ra-8LXL7Pec/v-deo.html
Thanks for the suggestion! I've settled into just mixing and matching the stock GB iOS drums for now on my demos. I'll definitely check this out though.
Hi Pete!!! Great videos!!! I’m still thinking which of the tow DAWS to buy (cubanos 3 o auria pro), and I can’t decide yet, so. . . I wonder if you can tell me if in auria pro have automatization, and if it works well, also if in auria can send effects o buzzes, and how it work with the plugs in in both. . . And more important which of tow you recommend me, I am a musician and also producer so ill keep GB for making music because is just the best for all the instruments it have, but a want a daw for the mixing, easy to work and with all the features of a daw it could be. . . Thank you for show is the way!!! Hehe Greetings from Ecuador!!!
Hey there my friend. So, both have automation and busses. My preference these days is Cubasis as there seems to be more support and community around it. But both are really good.
@@PeteJohnsMusic thanks Mr Peter!!!! Actually I think I’m more enthusiastic for cubasis 3, one more question if you might, can you set diferent tempos in the song with cubasis???? THANKS A LOT!!!
These are the big 3 for DAWs. Thanks for doing this. This comes up all the time. Who's the best? I always think people who don't use GB are elitists (laughs). You needed to do this just to see what's out there. There may come a day when you and I will use something else besides GB. Somewhere in the distant future.
Yeah. I will definitely experiment more with these and see what they can do. I will definitely use Cubasis if I ever need to adjust the timing or pitch of audio, and maybe even for mixing and mastering. Love my GarageBand workflow a lot right now though.
The main reason I am considering switching from GarageBand is because optimize performance crashes my session. Does Cubasis do this or have any type of comparable situation?
Cubasis does sometimes have issues with crashing, but no "optimizing performace" as such. GarageBand is much better these days, especially on newer devices, but definitely had issues in the past. studiolivetoday.com/garageband
@@PeteJohnsMusic bro I have done all of the above with apple care on the phone. I have until my recently purchase , been using a twenty fifteen iPad Pro and one app after another ( inter app mostly became a stone ) that froze GB the second I opened one with backround audio on etc. other issues with the dongles and usb from a brand new class compliant mixer 22 channel Mackie 2022 that worked for a year until four days ago and now AudioShare only sees the mic. So @#$&$#@ iOS daws and apps excluding Moog , and sugar bytes that seem to understand that apps need to be maintained regularly . And third party host apps AUM , loopy uhm pro ….gone . No more compatibility issues period now. What a surprise huh ! Sidecar and Logic remote are very intuitive as well as universal control with the full Logic bundle I purchased as well . Apple made it crystal clear how little they value iOS producers by not porting Logic Pro over to iOS a year ago . Pros use two machines period or roll the dice with iOS third party garbage. Including GarageBand in it’s current form . Hope this helps cause I spent ten plus years with mobile and still nothing to write home about in that regard . Enjoy your day and I hope this helps . At sixty four apple doesn’t get to play with my time period anymore. Good luck your a great guy trying to help people and I admire your patience. Peace Christo 👽🙏✌️
@@PeteJohnsMusic Pete have you noticed the vendors aren’t checking in on this one? They know I’m right too. But they prefer to just dangle some more tempting apps and a who gives a @#$& right? Their record of non compatibly is long and storied👽
Garage Band is irritating me! I'm trying to record vocals with my iPhone. I hear sound but see a flat line (no waveform). I don't have an issue recording voice memos with my iPhone. I only have issues in Garage Band. 😠🤦🏻♀️ Would I have that issue with Cubasis 3?
Grab the LE free version and take a look. Shouldn’t be any different as the waveform is just a representation of the level. Set you input gain at around 70% and you should be good. Thanks
@@PeteJohnsMusic I grabbed the LE version and I didn’t have the issue that I was having with GarageBand on my iPhone. I got a good waveform! I’m going to purchase Cubasis 3 since it’s on sale for $24.99.
Like Pete said you can use the builtin audio of an iPad or IPhone to get going. And in case you don’t know, Cubasis 3 is on sale (35% off) until Sept 14. There is sure to be another sale around Black Friday too.
‘Optimising Performance’...please, make the bad man stop...! It’s like a prison sentence of 3 minutes duration or whatever. Plus, you can never tell the difference, in sound terms, so I can only surmise it does what other DAWs do and ‘freezes’ some tracks, playing the audio equivalent, for some of the MIDI tracks, because this is easier than keeping all those MIDI plates spinning? Clearing out ‘zombie’ apps from the front end of the device, is one thing, leave only GB running, and also press the side-button until the ‘slide to switch off’ button and message appears, then instead of doing so, press and hold the ‘home’ button until the ‘slide to switch off’ message disappears. This clears any zombie bits of apps from memory apparently, but I note that whereas before iOS 13 that was all, now this effectively makes you sign back into your device (ie use your fingerprint etc as if first starting it up). Two seconds longer is all. Some trick is definitely pulled by Apple in GB, regards instruments. You can use Audiokit Synth One, just ONCE in a GB song, before it all goes wrong/crashes/optimizes, but you can put in half a dozen Apple Alchemy or keyboard instances. They must be making use of the SSD, in a way Developers either do not know how to, or have not been privy to? Ok, I carry on watching...
good afternoon pete I have one question and hopefully you can answer it i want to use my spider II combo for recording what is the best setting for the interface? the last spider series has one usb output and the spider II does not, can I just use the headphone output and put it back into the input of the interface? and should there be a di box in between or? thanks in advance for your response I'm starting to get back into it nicely did little musically last year because I had 3 strokes at the beginning of last year but I'm starting to get more and more control over my fingers and now want to try to record songs from my old band greetings from the Netherlands
Hey there. Not familiar with this device I’m afraid? So not sure exactly how it operates and what you would need. Might be something to check in with the folks over in one of the Facebook groups like Create Record Release - createrecordreleaae.com/
Hey there. I haven’t played around with o it ch a whole lot in Cubasis yet but I believe it has some options. There are Autotune and pitch correction plugins for iOS but I haven’t found a really good Melodyne replacement yet.
Hey Pete! I faced a new issue now. I made a beat from scratch and then tried to save it, but then it says operation could not be done or something like that. Haven't really faced anything like that. So I've left the beat unsaved open. Please let me know what to do 🙏🏼
What platform are you using? Might be something to check in with the folks at the GarageBand Users or iPad Musician groups on Facebook- studiolivetoday.com/gbu
GarageBand has a step sequencer you can check out here - ua-cam.com/video/6hkIZgbBlpo/v-deo.html I haven’t tried much sequencing in Cubasis or Auria sorry.
Pete Bowen Yes there are ways to get around it, but, it would be far easier to extend it to say 8 instead of 4. Particularly when using IAA, there’s simply not enough time to revert from one to the other! Cubasis, you can change it to 4/8/16 and anything else in between! It’s a simple fix for Apple, know idea why they don’t implement it, drives me mad!
Yes, here’s a few things like this that you think “why can’t you just change this - it seems so simple”. I guess it’s that slippery slope of “feature creep” that can turn a simple app in to a complex one if you’re not careful!

11:30 to ensure the sample time stretches if you change tempo, just click on the sample, click settings and enable “Follow Tempo & Pitch”
This will work on GarageBand for virtual instrument tracks but not recorded audio (blue) track unfortunately. ua-cam.com/video/Akb4KDjwVHY/v-deo.html
Not for pre recorded samples…. Example…the bass line from some rare b-side Prince bootleg.

Thanks my friend. All fine now many months later thankfully. Yes it’s pretty amazing what we can do with apps on o it mobile devices these days!
Korg Gadget 2 is also really good. A different workflow tho. Lots of great sounding plugins a built in and iap.
I’ve heard that too. 😎👍
Five great pluses for Cubasis and none of the five downsides are relevant for me, so … I think I might be picking up Cubasis real soon. Thanks for the detail Pete, it really helps.
Nice one Ed. Glad to hear.
Best presentation anywhere on the web.
Thanks so much! I hope you get value from the other videos on the channel and consider subscribing if you haven’t already. 👍
Steinberg... The makers of VST. ;)
Yup.
I appreciate all the features these other DAW’s have, and I feel the pain with GarageBand’s limitations. That said, GarageBand just makes it easier to get ideas out and has the best workflow for me. Good show Pete!
Nice one Scott. Yup, if it works for you and your workflow, go with it!
It’s all about workflow and how you create inspiring music when using software with limitations. So I say: keep up the good work!
Super useful. Detailed yet waffle-free. Thanks!!
Great points about using Garageband sounds in Cubasis, especially via AUv3 (in AUM). Same would apply to Auria Pro.
Totally.
Pete, your videos are such a treasure! Thanks for all the great advice and tutorials!
Cheers my friend. Appreciate the kind words.
Thanks! I had no idea the Time Ruler existed in Garageband!
👍😎
Always welcome.
Been hearing that Logic may come to iPad in a few year. I’m not holding my breath, but that would be fantastic if it happens and is done well. This is a great video comparison!
Yeah. I was thinking at might be a possibility but I’m now so to ally this king they will likely keep Logic Mac only. A need can dream though!
I use cubasis for midi tracking audio recording and garageband for drum instrument such as strings and midi effect, auria pro best for mixing
Nice one. Yes, sometimes the right answer is “a little bit of everything”.
Cubasis3 really is the 1 DAW to have on a deserted island. I personally just go to Auria Pro for the video track, when I wanna synch or score something. And Garage Band became my baby that I left a few years ago.
Really good review Pete, you really outdid yourself this time.
Cheers my friend. I know that you know your stuff so it means a lot coming from you. 👍
George MiLo he always does
Back in the ‘90s, I was using Cakewalk on a desktop PC, and I miss some of the features I had there, like the MIDI scripting.
Ty.
Yeah. I must admit that my iPad Pro 2020 has never had any optimising performance issues but my older one certainly does!
@@PeteJohnsMusic right on.. good to hear that.
Grateful do a video on how to use Cubasis on both ipad and iPhone. Like how to work on a project on one device, then continue on another device, and back and forth.
Haven’t used Cubasis in a while but I’m sure I’ll return.
Regarding sections: these is something that definitely is needed in Cubasis3. I haven’t seen it in Auria Pro either but will check it out.
Yeah. GarageBand sections aren’t perfect but they’re usable.
Cheers Don. Very well summed up and similar to my experiences. 👍
Same here, I always end up coming back to Auria Pro though for the audio mixing but the midi still leaves me hanging.
EASY TO LISTEN TO AND QUALITY INFORMATION….THANKS

You’re very active sir.....I appreciate ALL of your vids bro. 💪🏾
Cheers my friend. Yes, as you can probably tell I love doing this stuff. 👍
Logic on a proper computer with Logic remote or side car and a brand new iPad Pro m1 in both plenty of ram . It’s the best choice . Especially if you started with GarageBand.👽
Yup. That’s a good option if you can afford it and prefer a desktop DAW.
Cubasis is on sale right now. The DAW itself and also the in app purchases.
Nice!! Didn’t knew the in-app purchases were also on sale.
Pete Johns Yep. DAW has 30% discount. In app purchases 50% discount. The in app purchases are a must have if you ask me. 😊
Thanks for sharing going for Auria Pro…👍
🤘😎
Not to overcomplicate matters, but yet another Steinberg DAW I just installed yesterday is MusicStudio, the full version of which is much simpler to use than Cubasis. Just thought it worth a mention and, yes, I know this is from a year ago, but...
I've never tried this but heard good things. It's an "oldie but a goodie" yeah? Jade has used it in the past.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Yeah, it's pretty good, so far. One thing I've noticed, though, is that the sounds are bit loud, for some reason.
Amazing video for a beginner like myself. Thanks for the comprehensive breakdown!

Haha! I was trying to channel Mike Sexton at that part of the video. 😎
@@PeteJohnsMusic hey Pete in cubasis 3, there is no way to label sections but you can color code different sections that you want.
Thanks a lot Pete.
You’re very welcome my friend. I hope you get value from the other videos here on the channel and consider subscribing. 👍
thank you for your review. i'd love to prefer to Auria Pro
Auria is super powerful however I find it not quite aligned to my workflow.
What are the differences for 1. More than 1 time signature in 1 song, 2. Playing midi out and recording its audio from a synth, 3. Automation of tempo . Sorry to ask but these things I need when composing progressive rock songs😉
I think for ultimate control you’d look to Auria. Cubasis is capable of all this and easier to use but not quite as flexible.
I gotta admit i didn't watch this video at the time but it really makes u think. All of them are great. I like Auria being like desktop DAWs. I like GB but im starting to wonder if i should switch to laptop/desktop or stay on ios? Auria is really interesting....
Yeah, and Cubasis has made some good strides since then too! We really are spoiled for choice these days.
Thanks man! Super helpful. Dig that Soul Coughing sounding track you played in Auria Pro.
👍🤘
you 're great Pete .well done !

@@PeteJohnsMusic will do ! Thx
GB is no toy! I’m a big believer in KiSS! That’s another reason I keep coming back to GB. Yes it has its faults, but Cubasis can be very unstable and Auria!
Yup. I’m with you. The simplest option is often the best.
Well done. Excellent comparison and very enjoyable. Just a pity there ware so many ads in it.
Whatever floats your boat I say!
So many options right? You could totally spend ALL your time trying new apps and not ever recording any actual music. :D
Always awesome Pete.

Cubase is also available for desktop and links with IPad. Just FYI
Nice one.
the prpblem with gb is that while you're recording an audio track you're not allowed to see the track recording wave going on, the program shows you a useless screen. its really a shame that is not like the laptop version.
Yes it’s a bummer. If you have a multi channel interface you can use the method I show in this video - ua-cam.com/video/qdgd3xpnUgk/v-deo.html
perfect info, and all perfectly explained. Thank you 🤘
Awesome! Very glad to hear it helped.
Very informative and helpful video summary of these 3 apps 👍🏻.
Cheers Rick. Glad to hear it. Hopefully will help those who are considering checking them out. 👍

I’ve used countless daws, mobile and desktop and all I can say cubasis is amazing
It is so cheap for everything you need so many presets and plugins are so cheap amazing just amazing would suggest
Edit: I agree and disagree with auria pro looking like desktop it does but doesn’t all I can say cubasis looks a lot like cubase
Will be interesting now with Logic Pro coming to iPad! studiolivetoday.com/logic
Thanks Pete, very usefull and keepsake guinguette your great job

GarageBand is the best for me!
Nice one. I’m a big GarageBand fan too.
Yeah, fun to have this new knowledge. Don’t think it will fundamentally change my workflow in the short term either.

The inability to arrange by section on Cubasis is a dealbreaker . The complete Apple integration plus tons of instruments are a deal maker .
Yup. I just love the simplicity of GarageBand - but I'm super biased these days. Hope you can join me live today - ua-cam.com/users/livew5CPJ7wDUAI
Considering I can't get to grips with either Auria or Cubasis, looks like it's Garageband for me.
Yeah - GarageBand is my comfort place.
Hmmm...considering all the negatives, maybe I'll just learn to use Cubasis, instead of Garageband.
QUESTION….HOW TO EXPORT AUDIO TRACKS TO EXTERNAL DEVICE…LIKE DUO DRIVE OR HARD-DRIVE…..THANKS
Hey there. Most apps in iOS don’t support external drive storage I’m afraid.
Love from India sir
Thanks my friend.
Hey Pete for vocals I reckon definitely cubasis isn't it?
I still prefer GarageBand because it's in my comfort zone, but Cubasis is definitely a good option too.
Thank you pete
You’re very welcome my friend. I hope you get value from the other videos here on the channel and consider subscribing. 👍
Been a subscriber for a while & I've learnt lots.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks, Pete.
Great video Pete, can you use Tonebridge and Brusfri in Cubasis 3 .
Yup. Cubasis supports all AUv3 plugins and apps.

Aye bro big love from Nairobi Kenya
I've been a big time user of FL,very experienced with it, and i thought it was time to venture into other softwares as even though i still keep FL,now where im getting issues, can i use external sounds in Cubasis 3?🤔 Like drums ,snares hi hats, i feel much of the default sounds sound old school
Yup you can import loops and samples in Cubasis. It’s worth a look.
Drum Computer by Sugar bytes is really good.
Thanks for the suggestion! I've settled into just mixing and matching the stock GB iOS drums for now on my demos. I'll definitely check this out though.

Hey Pete Great Video. You were saying you can get alchemy Synth into cubasis 3? And how do you do this?
Yeah I don’t think Alchemy is available in Cubasis sorry. You would need to record a track in GarageBand and export it.
Cubase 3 is my choice.
👍
Hehe

good day sir, Have you tried N-track Studio for iPad and Iphone? If you have, may i know what is your take on that sir?
I haven’t personally but know folks who have and say it’s pretty cool.
Do any of these DAWs or other ios DAWs have "key wait" for recording? I kinda like that way of recording. Thx for all the helpful research
Hey there. Not really that I’ve come across. I tend to just set up a track and record from 4 bars back or so.
If I want to just edit music, move choruse and instruments around, what do you recommend for iPad/iPhone
I think GarageBand is pretty great for simple functions so would definitely start there. ua-cam.com/play/PLc8Xg_23Wa55IUY55fNYokmyKf9GN1EH3.html
Can you use AU Instruments that are part garageband in cubasis?
Not the standard GarageBand plugins I’m afraid. Only external AUv3s.
@@PeteJohnsMusic this is annoying. I'm wondering if I need to just switch to a laptop
what app is good for live sets for beats and such
GarageBand works pretty well. A lot of folks use FL Studio, Korg Gadget and others too.
Inter app doesn’t work on a 2015 iPad Pro I GarageBand . 👽
Really? Should definitely work. I have an iPad 1st gen and it works. Make sure you’ve updated to the latest version of iOS.

I don't have an issue recording voice memos with my iPhone. I only have issues in Garage Band. 😠🤦🏻♀️

what about cubasis for the ipad mini?
Yup. studiolivetoday.com/ipad
@@PeteJohnsMusic I mean in terms of usability.. is it even possible to do anything comfortable on it especially things like the piano roll?!
I’d like to try cubasis le 3 but I don’t own a interface that is on their list of interfaces that will work with it. Is the full version the same way?
Full version will support any class compliant interface if you pay for the full app.
It’s still a a mystery that I’m yet to fully unravel... and probably never will. 🤔
good afternoon pete

Hello, do you know a DAW on iPad which can be used with KORG NanoKontrol to mix the tracks? Thank you ;-)
Maybe Korg Gadget? 🤔
I’m not sure but maybe ask over at the Create Record Release Facebook group - createrecordreleaae.com
@@PeteJohnsMusic thank you 🙏
Pete! The rubbish count in GB! Why oh why don’t they change that! That was one of reasons I bought Cubasis, ridiculous!
The rubbish count can be managed. That rubbish makes GB far more flexible. It's big for a reason.
