I sometimes find Logic too limiting, not only the cost, but the erasure of features to simplify the interface. Can't even have access to the full Alchemy interface anymore. So Cubase might be for me.
My DAW isn’t the limiting factor in recording and making music, it’s the artist (me). I’m fine with using (and learning, thanks to you) GarageBand. And like I’m fond of repeating: if it’s free, then its for me!
Been using GarageBand iOS for years and it’s my go to DAW. I’m mostly a mobile creator so that’s my limiting factor. Although I’m not limited really. Amazing what you can do with a phone these days. Giving BandLab a try and liking the experience. Plan to stick with that for a while and see how it goes. Enjoying the new platform and BandLab is definitely different which is great. Thanks for the tips. 🤘
Sounds like you’re doing what I’m suggesting. Just try new things if you want to and use what works for you once you find it. It should be about fun and exploration.
Wow I used to use cakewalk for a lot of records I did for a lot of bad boy danity Kane I used to love cakewalk they had a synth that was crazy i forgot the name of it it was on iOS but they got rid of it
I think beatmaker 3 is a solid option, but badly in need of an update & although I'm not into sampling myself I've seen many a producer sing it's praises. At £30 its insane value IMO. Bandlab is a fantastic free option for anyone wanting to gently dip their toes into the world of DAW. It's a comprehensive suite of tools, only really held back by the inability to use VST. Thats far from a deal breaker when getting started. Personallly I'm not tied to any one particular platform. We have this amazing pallette of creative tools at our disposal so I'm open to whatever I can discover!
Great show. I own all the daws you mentioned and some others and they all have something I like about them. But right out of the gate I created more music quicker and had more fun doing it, on the Apple lineup. GB and Logic on both platforms. Always love your show. You’ve taught me heaps.
Logic is great and I can see why people love it but it's not for me in it's current state. It's missing a few basics I'd want, plus I don't agree with subs on principle. Cubasis 3 for me. I fell instantly for that DAW and wished I'd got it earlier than I did. I found it very intuitive which is something that I always appreciate. If I'm doing straight midi file conversions I also like MultiTrackStudio. It often seems to get overlooked and it's not the cheapest, or most pleasant looking UI (very desktop like) but there's a lot of power and features in there. It kinda fills the middle ground between Cubasis 3 and NanoStudio 2, having features both those are missing.
GB on iOS is elegant and straightforward, even if it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of Logi Pro iPad. Then one big complaint for both is that you can't export your MIDI. It's held hostage in the Apple ecosystem.
Besides being portal, what do you like so much about it (not sarcastic question I am curious cause never felt good working on my ipad for anything really, always felt “limited”.. but now with mouse and keyboard perhaps? 🤔)

I used garageband, Auria Pro, Logic Pro (mac&ipad), cubasis 3 (full). Cubasis is amazing compared to the rest. I have the Fabfilter plugin bundle which all of them support. Auria was the best but they fell off due to support and updates. The choice is between Logic Pro and Cubasis. Cubasis may be more attractive given its static price tag and support on more devices. Cubasis for 49.99 is the winner in my book.
Pete in my estimation you've missed the best one of all. Audio Evolution I've used it for years. Besides being able to export midi and import multiple audio files at once, it has a vocal tuner which rivals Melodyne.....
I like AEM but gave MultiTrackStudio a go and found it much better for my needs. Cubasis 3 is still my favourtie DAW but MTS covers straight midi file conversions really well. It's less fiddly than AEM.
Then you would want to do a little Tempo adjustment among a few Bars in Cubasis or whatever and you'll realize that you cannot do it after refund time expires

Hey pete, thanks for all of your videos really! But i actually have a question, what kind of speakers do you recommend because i am new in midi’s and i just noticed that bluetooth speakers causes latency.
Thanks for the video. What would you suggest as the best DAW for iPad to use just for me to record vocals on-the-go? So just to import a few stereo music tracks and record Lead vocals and a bunch of harmonies would be my main requirement. Thanks.
I'm just learning piano, have a nice wee Arturia Keylab 88 MkII, and currently only have an iPad, would you recommend I stick to Garageband, or go forthe Logic Pro subscription?
Ooh.... probably worth at least trying the one month free with Logic Pro for iPad and seeing if you like it? It's got some pretty cool additional features.
Very helpful video - and thanks for the comments re making music - which make a lot of sense. For most of us it’s not about making money. One comment - are there not some limitations in using GarageBand which make Logic and others DAWs preferable? I have several DAWs including Logic, Ardour, Reaper and for working with external libraries generally I find Logic easier. I don’t particularly want to use cloud storage, so for me it’s important to have files/data stored locally.

1 have a question: is there a way to get rid of the latency when you press the monitoring button when you are playing an instrument? Because I like to hear my bass out of my speakers, the only way for me to hear the bass is for me to press the monitoring button, but it's delayed, and I already tried the latency test, and it still hasn't fixed anything.
