I was given a jelly baby by Tom Baker at the age of 9, at a book signing he did at Martin's bookshop/newsagents in St.Helens, not too long after he became the Doctor. Still have the autographed book. Lovely fella. All the kids were in awe of him.
I got sent a postcard from Tom Baker when I was a kid in the 90s. I'm autistic and back then Doctor Who was the entire centre of my life. I was sad because he was doing a promo event in London that I couldn't get to so my mum called up and asked if they could send something. She meant some of their promo stuff that thry were selling but they told him I wanted to come so he sent me a postcard to say that he was sorry I couldn't come. I still have it in a frame on my wall! Years later, I got to meet him but I was too nervous to tell him I was the same person. Really lovely guy who appreciates and looks after his fans.
I would literally SPRINT home from the school bus stop at the end of our street every afternoon as a 70s kid, just to catch that thrilling opening theme. This is my Doctor!
Tom Baker was and always will be the Quintessential doctor Who. He was MY Doctor Who, and I feel very fortunate to have shared that series on PBS with my Dad. Good times, good times.
You are telling my exact experience, but it was with my mom. One of the greatest experiences of my life included a weekend at a Doctor Who convention. There was a lunch with a small group of us, and were last to make it into and they led us to the last empty table. When Tom came in he sat down one chair from me. I was over the moon with excitement. Talk about about making a young girls dream come true. Very good time. So grateful for that experience. 🙏🏼🥳

I love how the jelly baby is such an iconic part of Tom Baker, that Paul Mcgann and Peter Capaldi also offered Jelly babies to others as well (funny how it was every 4th doctor) and Matt Smith reusing Baker's line "Would you like a jelly baby?" as the flesh in "The almost People"
Genesis of the Daleks has some cracking dialogue. My favorite is in episode 3 when he goes up to the Thal guards and says "excuse me, can you help me? I'm a spy" then knocks them out.

Another top 4th Doctor moment is during his 1st term as Lord President of Gallifrey. He finds the Key of Rasillon, which no other President has been able to do.

Which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering." He then ducks before he's shot in the back by someone under the influence of a mad computer that believes it's the Doctor and sees the fourth Doctor as a threat to that delusion.
I think his speech at the decieders about their lies in full circle is another demonstration of bakers top class acting and beats the definite article scene out of the park
The 9th Doctor is my FIRST Doctor, but the 4th Doctor is my FAVORITE Doctor! Did you know that Jamie is the longest-serving companion? He was in more episodes, all told, than even Sarah Jane Smith. Tom wouldn't smoke cigarettes out in public, because he didn't want kids to think smoking was cool 'cause the Doctor did it. As he pointed out, he was THE Doctor to many kids since his tenure there was so long, he's the only Doctor many of the kids knew. That, alone, makes Tom Baker worthy of the title of Best Classic Doctor.
Did you know that the deadly jelly baby scene was not originally in the script? It was originally planned for the Fourth Doctor to threaten the hunters with a knife but Tom Baker deemed that not in character for his incarnation of the Doctor, and instead suggested that he bluffed the hunters with a jelly baby and that's what was kept in the show
My favorite moment from "The Brain of Morbious" (Watched it last night on Pluto TV!) Solan opens the door of his castle fortress during a pouring rain. The Doctor and Sarah stand there getting drenched. The Doctor holding broken umbrella. "Could I trouble you for a glass of water?" - The Doctor
The Doctor: "Appreciate it... appreciate it! You commit mass destruction and murder on a scale that's almost inconceivable and you ask me to appreciate it? Just because you happen to have made a brilliantly-conceived toy out of the mummified remains of planets?" The Captain: "Devil storms Doctor... It is not a toy!" The Doctor: "Then what's it for!? Huh? What are you doing? What could possibly be worth all this?"
The story leaves a lot to be desired overall, but The Invasion of Time provides one of my favorite 4th Doctor (and Doctor Who) quotes ever. Andred (referring to the matrix): You now have access to the greatest source of knowledge in the universe. Doctor: Yes, I do talk to myself sometimes...

''They built, split the atom, invented the electric toothbrush and then split the planet''. after that episode the timelords decided involvement with other species is too dangerous to continue.
I'll tell you why Tom Baker is the greatest Doctor ever. When I'm having a bad day and want to improve my mood, I reach for a classic Doctor Who DVD(or Monty Python, Little Britain, etc..etc..). And almost every time it's from the Tom Baker era. Tom's presence and voice can't be beat. I do enjoy other Doctors. Jon Pertwee has some of the best stories. The writing was great during that time period. But Tom Baker just became that character better than anyone else. Probably because he was just playing himself. He's quite quirky and eccentric in real life. Playing an alien came quite natural to him. I really don't think anyone will ever come close to reaching the excellence of Tom Baker in the role.

the final scene of "Shada" .................while the Curator is great.....Shada is epic
Shada is at least Tom as the Fourth Doctor. The Curator is (possibly) a future Doctor.
Best one of the entire series.
We LOVE him!!! and he's our oldest now and still alive!
Don't you just mean Top Ten Doctor Who Moments?
I think I'm entering a Dr. Who phase and Tubi has classic episodes BEFORE The 9th Doctor. I hear the 4th Doctor was the best of them all.
Do 1 of the 5th docotr please
Four and Sarah Jane's farewell reminds me a little bit of 13 & Clara's.
What
The voice, the hair, the acting, the charisma. Best doctor ever. Sigh I wish Dr who wasn’t so dumbed down and woke these days. The old Dr Who credited the viewer with intelligence.
So, so true 😀!
Ok Boomer.
He's actually Gen X @@tallguy2023
