- Welcome back to Tackett Garage! This time we take on a Do it Yourself Paint job on the Bronco 2. Primmer to Mettalic Blue, What a difference! I chose to use a Single stage paint made by Summit Racing called Blue Metallic Part number SUM_UP320G. We sprayed that on with a Electric spray gun I found on Amazon Here is the Link www.amazon.com...
It is the 700W Sprayer made by Yattich. We prepped the primer surface by sanding with 320 grit sand paper and cleaned it with a paint prep spray made by Duplicolor. As for the wet sanding I was all over the place, on the really bad spots I started with 800 grit and worked my way up to 1500 grit before polishing. We talked about the polish and buffers in our How to Buff video from a little while ago so check that one out for more info on that. Over all I am quite pleased with the way it turned out. Thanks for watching and join us next time when we finish putting everything back together. with a facelift for the front end!
Turned out really nice
Thanks!
Yr welcome. Believe it or not I painted a suzuki Samy with house paint and it still looks new 😂😂
Wow,I just noticed you used one of those electric fence sprayers that are for painting wooden decks, privacy fences etc. That's where all the orange peel and texture is coming from.lol 😁😉
Yeah that was probably a big part of it, but I think if I changed the adjustments a little and got my technique down I could eliminate most of that texture. Some spots came out super smooth.
You'd be surprised what a good gun can do. I used a cheap harbor freight gun for my bronco and it came out great,no orange peel.
I’m thinking of painting mine like the general lee
Hell yes!!! Beat me to it. Big fan of the dukes. Born in Mexico, raised in Az, served my country in the Army and yes, deployed. I get to love the Dukes and the General cuz i can and not a snowflake offended by every f***king thing!
Cool, it will definitely stand in the crowd!
I just bought one of these, and can’t wait to get some new paint on it
Yeah it really makes it like a whole new car! Have fun with it!
thanks for you work !
Your welcome, thanks for watching.
NICE!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks I appreciate it
Looks really nice!!!
Thanks!
Man that’s a great looking paint job! Gonna have to try this on mine!
Thanks! Made a world of difference. Good luck!
You get a A+ for Effort
Thanks! It worked great as a trail rig paint job.
Dude!!!! This looks sick!! I had a 85 Bronco 2 back in high school about 5 years ago and I’m trying to find another one and work on it but I’m my area they’re hard to come by
Thanks man, yeah I mean to be honest I don’t really see them that often around here either. I may have seen like 1 or 2 others since we got ours a couple years ago. But good luck finding one though, it will be fun to have the high school car back, I still have my high school car, hasn’t been on the channel yet really but it’s day is coming.
Yea, I’m in the AF as a MP(Military Police) and I was patrolling around base and saw one just like the one I had in high school, so that’s giving me some hope to try and find one or maybe buy it from the guy that has the one I found but we’ll see how it goes
Good work! Hope I can achieve something similar from a rattle can... wish me luck..
Best of luck! Prep in the key better you prep the better it will come out. Also if you are going for a bright color it will be best to use a light color primer. I kinda wish we would’ve used light gray primer to make the blue pop more.
Sweet!
Thanks!
Great video
Thank you!
Nice job
Thanks!
Isnt that illegal in california? Lol
But it looks good. I hope to paint mine as well. It will be my 6th vehicle painted.
Not sure but that’s why I did it in the back yard.lol. Good luck.👍
Use a heat gun on the stickers and emblems to get them off easily.
Good tip, been meaning to get a heat gun.
Did you install the McNeil bedsides? I'm wondering if you mounted them over the existing rear quarter panels or if you cut out the factory sheetmetal. Thanks!
So I didn’t install them originally they were on it when I got it. But they were installed over the quarter panels which had been cut to give mire wheel clearance and then they were sealed with what looked like a seam sealer type of stuff.
Almost looks like mine...
Do you happen to have a list of the items you needed for this project. I’m looking at doing the same with my B2
I put basically what I used to do it in the description, what I left out and forgot myself was a respirator or at least a face mask. I definitely had some blue paint in my nose.
Hi men, how do you do this fenders modification.?
I had bought it with the fenders on it, but if you look up prerunner fenders you should be able to find some and mine also had a front end conversion to the more modern front end like a 90 bronco 2 or ranger. Explorer is also pretty similar.
Is that paint or tinted bedliner?
It’s a single stage paint, sprayed through an electric paint sprayer, I probably had the settings off so it came out textured. Definitely paint though.
