97 Cobra Cold Air Intake Install and Test Drive!
How’s the Bronco look today? Would love to see an updated video!
So would I but unfortunately I sold it a few years ago. I’m pretty sure I happened to see it a few months ago parked in a family members neighborhood and it still looked pretty good, but it was dark out so hard to say how the paint was holding up.
What’s the reason for disconnecting rear sway bar link during the adjustment?
It’s been a little while but from what I remember the sway bar was making it harder to adjust because it was trying to keep the control arms flat like it was going around a turn. So it was just to make it easier to adjust one side at a time.
I've got some OG red lines and a ton of treasure hunts and super Chase vehicles to make into ornaments!!!
Sounds good, tree is going to look great!
Is your truck a long bed?
Yes it was
After looking back at this after 2 years I noticed yall caught my bananana😂 (the yellow dunebuggy)
Nice, I’m actually fixing up a dune buggy of my own now, hopefully I’ll see you out there later this season.
I’m trying to adjust the the coil over to be a little bit over the top of my tire about 1.4 inches from stock. However my sway bar doesn’t move so when I adjust the coil, the bolt hole moves to high for me to insert the sway bar. How were you able to adjust to a low fit?
I don’t remember having any problem with that. I think if you set both sides ride height equally it should match up. Worst case scenario you could probably get some aftermarket sway bar end links that adjust. The ones with spherical bushings add to the effectiveness of the bar too.
Haw its drive whit this suspension firmli or normal
I thought it drove great. It may have been a little firmer but didn’t seem too harsh…at least not in my opinion. And you can always turn down the damper adjuster to make it softer than I had it set too. Highly recommended.
Got to drive faster so you stop falling in that’s samd
Yeah we have been working on that.
Great vid, bud! BTW, ya think is there any way to still be able to install bed stiffeners if modified?
Thanks, me and a buddy talked about how to mod some bed stiffeners in there a lot but couldn’t come up with a way to do it.
Great job, nice information video! I wonder if Ford Motor Company back in Detroit ever watch these videos and what they think knowing their Bronco 2's are still being driven and desired?
Thanks, I don’t know if my videos have been taken that seriously by ford but seems like the new bronco sport is kinda like todays equivalent to the bronco 2. A little less traditional of an suv but still has more off-road ability than most of the crossovers. So I think yeah they noticed the love for the smaller rugged suv.
Can I do if my bike has no pink slip to Wildomar ohv
Well it would be a little risky. One of the times we went a ranger came by and checked to make sure we had our stickers and everything. But sometimes we have gone and not seen anybody.
@@tackettgarage4982 OK thanks I went to go get the pink slip and registered the bike yesterday but they gave me a red sticker riding time October to April and it’s due now so I can’t go to Wildomar OHv this Saturday or should I still go
I probably wouldn’t just to not have to worry about the rangers…especially on the weekend.
@@tackettgarage4982 can a race bike, be ridden on the trails slow or only on race tracks . Will riding a race track at low RPMs affected the bike ima ride my race bike on a hiking trail slowly
Hey sorry it has been so long I didn’t see the question. From my experience it will depend on the bike. I know if going too slow the bike might get a little hot after a while with no wind at low speed. Other than that should be fine I would think.
the hard way hah ha ha try that road in the dead of winter with 2 ft of snow on the ground in a street rig
Yeah well that would be harder.
Turned out really nice
Thanks!
Yr welcome. Believe it or not I painted a suzuki Samy with house paint and it still looks new 😂😂
Have you installed any bed stiffeners with this? I am also running into the problem of wanting stiffeners and have the bed extender. I was reading on Tacoma world some people have done it but with the amp extender. I don’t know if that’s similar to the oem.
I wanted to do bed stiffeners but I never did get any. Most of the ones I saw in person went right where the pivot for the Toyota extender went.
What’s the second trail called? Was it John Bull or 3N69
I just know it as Holcomb valley road.
Love the elco
Thanks! Me too.
How fast does your bronco go top speed? I have one i got and seems kinda slow i think it’s normal though
I think the fastest I saw was in the 80s, didn’t get there quick but it would get up there and maintain it ok. It was definitely one of my slower vehicles I had.lol
OUCH!!! I'd have a hard time drilling into the cars that i really like!!! 😞
That’s why you get extras.
Thanks for the video, I'm waiting on mine to get here. In your experience have you only strapped your bikes to the brushed aluminum D-loops at the front of the bed? I am a bit uncertain how strong those are to hold our 300lb bikes, so I'm now also considering mounting two more heavy duty D loop rivets through the bottom of the truck bed.
I usually had the front tied down like you said and I would strap the rear ends down on n either side to the back loops and together I n the middle. Was always good for us. Probably not a bad idea to put beefier hooks in the back
Fantastic video!
Thank you!
Nice to see others falling in the sand and not just me :D
You’re not alone.lol
How long did it take from Pioneertown to Big Bear?
Probably a couple hours with a few stops not in a hurry.
What engine was this??? Was this the 2.7 liter turbo 4??? Sure a good looking ride.
It was a 2.0 turbo 4. Thanks yeah in my opinion one of the best camaro body styles.
Excellent! Thanks man.
You're welcome!
Good video! Three questions … 1. Is that the short box (5 foot)? 2. Is it possible to know what those bikes are, so I can look up the length of them compared to mine? 3. If you took out the camping stuff, do you think you could fit a 3rd bike in there? Thanks.
Thanks! It’s a long bed Tacoma 6 ft, the big bike is a kx450 and the small bike is a ttr 125. Maybe on the third bike if a couple are small bikes but I don’t think 3 full size would.
@@tackettgarage4982 thanks
welp thanks for the video, sorry about the car. I'm installing the ZLE suspension on my SS 1LE and this video was very helpful.
Thanks for watching! Glad I could help.
That is cool.👍
Thanks!
Looked all over the internet for this plastic lip front bumper deal you got on there it looks mean! Do you remeber what that was called or where you purchased it?
Oh yeah the plastic one, I thought you meant the prerunner one I put on later. I think the plastic was literally just abs plastic cut to size and attached with tec screws.
So rad to see another guy in ca puttin hard work into a good ol old 2.9! I got an 87' b2 and I'm getting ready to upgrade my cooling system this video is the shit dude! I dont have the budget to drop a ton of $ into a real nice radiator but I plan on grabbing a fresh one and replacing the water pump. Whats your Instagram I'm too curious on recent updates on your rig
also can I get a link on where you bought the wide body kit and bumper??
Yeah the old girl treated me pretty right. The rad I did was actually pretty affordable if they are still selling them. My Instagram is TackettGarage. But sorry to disappoint but I no longer have the bronco. I put a link to the bumper on the video on here where I did all the front end updates, it was actually on Amazon if you believe it.lol. The next update I was going to do before life took a different turn was a James duff suspension lift, was going to do the dual front shocks because I wanted to eventually try to jump it out in the desert.
Hey! So glad I saw this! Wanted to make some ornaments for my brother. This was perfect! And easy! I wish I could post a pic. ❤
Glad you liked it. You can always tag us on instagram.
Just curious where is the jack point in the center? Do you have to remove the skid plate to access it?
You definitely don’t have to take of the skid plate or anything. It’s kinda far back there in on the crossmember. I found it was way easier to see after I drive the car up on a pair of 2x4s to get some clearance.
Sweet video man. That's basically the setup i'm going for. Not a big fan of the new Gen gonna get one of these 23s and enjoy that
Thanks, yeah the third gen Tacoma has treated us great so far. Have fun with it!
Nice drive.. but you guys are so cute airing down to drive on country roads and fire trails.
Yeah wasn’t needed, have done the it after that without airing down. First time on a trail so we didn’t really know what to expect.
Airing down also improves ride comfort, not just traction.
Completely forgot this in my snotty commenting@@Marhtyn
🥱🥱🥱
Do you make better videos? Post a link to your channel and I’ll check it out.
Excellent video! ❤
Thanks!
Can 2×4s fit?
Depending on length they would.
Will the install process be pretty similar for an SS? Just want to be sure, thanks
Yeah it should be almost identical. The only time it should be much different would be if you had the mag ride suspension I think.
You fall you get back up
👍
Me and my wife do this all the time we love it ☀️🌵
It’s a good time, glad it’s the season again
Isnt that illegal in california? Lol But it looks good. I hope to paint mine as well. It will be my 6th vehicle painted.
Not sure but that’s why I did it in the back yard.lol. Good luck.👍
Thank you for the video. I just purchased a 2023 SR5 v6 4x4 short bed, and looking to add Bilstein B8 5100 front and rear. Going 2 inches front and 1 inch block in the back. Do you think I’ll have an issue with 265/75/R16 using the stock rims the rims are kind of dark grey almost the same color as my metallic grey truck.
Your welcome. Sounds like it’s going to look pretty sweet. Now I haven’t played around with the suspension set ups too much but from what I have with my set up I’m almost positive you will be good to go in the back and I’m thinking you will be good in the front. If I’m thinking about the math right I think your set up is a bit smaller tire than mine and I only have a little rub when I’m turned pretty far and the suspension gets bounced.
As an Camaro SS owner this was a very good install video. Sorry about your car man. These are great cars but LTG is a huge step backwards from the LNFs & LHQs of the previous generation of Ecotecs. You can do all of the correct maintenance according to GM and they'll still blow up. They were made to save money and nothing is stout in them. They are straight garbage.
Thanks, I appreciate it. Yeah the car was great aside from the engine. I looked at a couple ss Camaros after this video to replace it but with the kind of mileage we put on the daily I couldn’t bring myself to pull the trigger. I definitely miss the camaro, current daily works but nowhere near as good….but the engine does still run.haha
Is this burns canyon
I didn’t know it by that name but yeah I just looked it up and you are right it’s burns canyon.
Sounds like a Honda civic with a deep roar, lol..
I’m good with that, can’t ask for much better out of a 4 banger camaro.
Ev conversion time
Eeehhh I would rather not. It’s someone else’s baby now anyway.
Do you think it’s doable with a 2wd with locker prerunner?
Yeah I think so, especially when it’s not snowy or anything. If anything maybe air down the tires a bit and I think you would be good.
Wow! I’ve got the 3.6 V6 with a manual. 2017. It had a bad coil on cylinder 5. Replace that and it was better, but not great. Took it to a different dealer and it ended up being $700 to repair the wiring harness that was rubbing against the engine for some reason. That solved my mechanical problems. I’m so sorry about yours. I love mine, and it’s got 85k on it now.
Oh yeah wiring harness damage is hard to find. I do miss mine, keep enjoying yours, from what I read my problem was a 2.0 problem so you shouldn’t have to worry about that.
So I’ve been looking into buying a bronco Ii but a lot of people critique it for being easy to flip over, have you ever had any scares?
Hey, it was a good toy for us. Personally the only time it was ever remotely close to going over was one of the times I was taking a trail a bit over my skill level. So I would say it was user error on my part and still came out unscathed. On road was never close to felling like it was going over and there were definitely a few time when I probably went in to a turn a little hotter than I should being more used to muscle cars, and it was always good. I also had some wide tires so that may have helped
Hello.. quick question. Did you put the screen back in on the the mass air sensor?
It has been a while now and I don’t remember, if I could have still used it I would have for sure. But I’m not sure if I was able too.
Loved your video. It just happens that I have all of the same components I am installing on my 96 Cobra Convertible and was looking for all of the details that you included that I didn’t find on other videos/sources. Such as 1) Should I remove strut tower or not. Have heard from a friend who took his in for new plugs/wires that his mechanic had issues when trying to reattach strut tower due to the body moving. 2) What the gap should be with the new coils I thought I had read .060 and didn’t want to screw that up 3) reminder to check compression and clean the throttle body. How did these upgrades work for you?
Thanks I appreciate it! I thought they worked great, I didn’t feel a big power increase or anything but it was nice and smooth through the rpms and no issues at all. A little while after the video I ended up selling my cobra(which I regret now, hindsight 20 20) but while I had it it was flawless and the guy that bought it from me drove it most of the way across California back home with no issues too. I would say your going to be happy for sure. And the only advice I have for you is hold on to her, she’s a keeper.
