    I don't know it is probably just me but I think the stone is most beautiful in its partially rubbed state when it is rough but the color is just starting to emerge and is surrounded by light sand. Gorgeous. Shows the miracle of the birth of color!

    16:30 see, this is why I'm always screaming, TURN IT OVER! If you still have enough potch, it will never hurt to flip the stone over and grind some off the other side instead of just grinding through ALL your potch, thinking there isn't any color left. Before you just decide your color bar has "disappeared" when you can't really see if it actually does continue on a side that's hidden, flip that sucker over! I'm soooo happy you caught it in time! 😊😊😊

    Does the amount of potch on the back of the stone effect the price per carrot? If there was less potch would the price per carrot go up because it's less weight?

    • @blackopaldirect
      @blackopaldirect  4 роки тому

      No it doesn’t work that way. The opal needs to be a certain thickness to be strong for a setting. Their def can be too much and too thick but without potch their would be no such thing as black opal

  • @HotelPapa100
    @HotelPapa100 4 роки тому

    20:14 if it were my decision, I'd leave that black potch in the face. Is that done occasionally, or does it affect the value of the stone too much?

    Hi there. I have one question: So, I've seen that you use wax to mount the opal on to a stick, but is that normal like bees wax, candle wax or is it some kind of special formula wax? Because I always just used hot glue for that task and am just curious about using wax instead.
