I love how Justin's been doing this for such a long time, and still gets so stoked about good color. With the triangle piece, and rubbed the other side after the black porch showed up, and he said, "WOW, LOOK AT THAT COLOR!" Just ads that much more stokedness, and watchability. Love it. Keep it coming!
Those were some beautiful opals you cut Justin. Lovely plays of colours through them. Can't wait to see them polished. Love the new stones you bought. Thank you and have a good week
This channel is about Justin, his family, and his helpers teaching the world about opal through the magic of the internet. Sit back, relax, and enjoy. I consider this a top notch opal university because I've learned so much. LOVE the photo of your father. Sometimes a caricature embodies us better than an actual picture. Also love the supporter who sent the picture of the opal being cut. What a cool thing to make.
Justin - I’ve just recently discovered your channel on YT. I think black opal is a simply magnificent stone that I’ve only just found a love for. Thank you for your channel. You’re so gifted in cutting. But you’re also just a gem. I love your stories about your dad, your wonderful humor, and the fact that you share both your successes and challenges in cutting such a beautiful stone. I’m so glad to see your success with this channel. I confess I nearly came to Denver just to tell you how much joy and inspiration I get watching you do what you love. Thank you for all that you do.
Nice to see both of you again even if I couldn't join you for the live! Congratulations on your and Ruths 25th Wedding Anniversary Justin! That's a nice gift that you got from your friend and that portrait of your dad most certainly belongs with you at BODs! The cut stones was pretty and I do love those crystal opals! Greetings to you all from me in Sweden, take care! Susanne.
I love watching your videos. I love opal. And the first one you showed up that was wonky shaped I just love it. It's unusual nobody has any like it and I just love the colors in it I really love that. Can't wait for your next videos
Loved this live as usual, great finds too! I watch a lot of your videos on repeat when I'm carving. I wanted to share my perspective on why people often ask/tell you 'Why don't you dremel it?!' I dremel myself and I try to save as much opal as I can. I make pointers, doublets out of thin pieces and inlay out of small pieces. But I do this as a hobby and I have all the time in the world. What you sometimes grind away would make a winner for me. Never the less I totally understand why you do this from a business perspective. It would take too much time to get the most out of each stone, that's why you try to get the best. Much love to you and your crew ❤
What an amazing group of opals. They will all be spectacular when finished. Thank you for sharing! Keep the wonderful goodness coming. Be happy, safe and stay healthy 😷⚒
I accidently wound up on your channel on you tube. I'm sure glad I did. My husband and I totally enjoy watching you create such beautiful opal. It is a beautiful stone. I watched video after video. I finally told my husband, " I can do that!!!" He said " yes you can" I was a machinist and I ran a pentagraph machine. Always working within the tolerance of 2000 thousandth of a inch. The machine I ran is a 3 dimensional duplicating machine. It is used to make plates for our money. Mine was used to make parts for the space shuttle. Worked in cutter grinding and also bench. We polished part with dremals. So not afraid of machines and you brought back my love for stones. My husband has already gotten me a cabking and wanting me to learn how to do facets. I have an idea how it works. Would help if I knew how to do metrics. Lol, the videos use it in most of the country. Not pushed that much here in the states. (USA) I just subscribed and you have inspired me to get back to playing with my stones. Their not that much and It gets me out in my garage. To hot right now, can't wait for winter. My favorite season. I can take the dry heat, but the humidity in Arkansa will kill ya. So I stay inside with the air conditioning all summer. Went rock hounding with my grandkids. They really loved it. Arkansas has the only state that has a diamond mine open to the public. Went there everytime we would visit Arkansas. My Granny's farm was connected to the diamond mine. My brother found one in 1966. I was 10 and he was 12. They offered him 35,000.00 for it. He wouldn't take it. Someone stole it in 1992. Here I go babbling on. Sorry, I guess I don't get to talk much. I've made several friends in Australia. Wr sing together on a karaoke site. Singsnap is the name. We have remained friends since 2013. I want to thank you for sharing your site and am looking forward to watching more of your videos. You always ask where we are from. I never hear Arkansas. Now you have an Arkie that watches you. I don't know you tube that well. I wish I knew how to follow you live when your live. But I'll run into you sooner or later. Good luck in your new shop. I missed your walk thru on your new shop. Judy
It's so cool to see all the places in the world that are touched by you all at Black Opal Direct. I never get tired of watching you cut opal. I'm sorry you had to get cut on though Justin...surprised they didn't find opal under there! Happy Anniversary to you and Ruth! God bless you both for many more years. I pray your son, Saxon takes to the wheel and absorbs all you have to pass down to him. It would be sad to see the family opal gift trickle away. But to each their own path in life. Be nice if you had an apprentice at least to pass all your knowledge to though, IMO. I'm excited to watch now! GB and enjoy!
Did you buy any of these opals on your last trip to Lightening Ridge? If not will you do us a video on the parcel (assuming you bought one), on those opals please?
You're spot-on about gemcutting. A good yield from a piece of rough is in the 20%-40% range. Occasionally you'll get a stone that has a better return because it's perfectly shaped, but it's rare.
Yeah, I reckon I would drop on by the workshop if I am out that way again. It would be good to watch the master at work. I don't know that I could ever afford one of those little beauties like the fire crystals, but maybe a bit of potch with a flash o' colour , for the Missus, would be a 'Oh-Go-On-Get-Out-Of-The-Doghouse' gift to put away for a rainy day.
yet again you amaze me with beautiful color opals. The unfinished opals you showed at the end really has me on my toes i can't wait to see them finished. And i bought a apron about a month ago and it was almost lost in the mail, but i got and i absolutely love it. thank you very much
@37:26 reminds me of the northern lights! Sorry I missed the live. The stone from the outback opal hunters reminds me of a mustache! Lol Tameka welcome home! You've been missed! ❤🧡💛
A smart man, always helps to have a cute young lady along with you while you're having a conversation with the subscribers. Of course I'm more interested in the content, and mostly the process and end result of the ovals. Thank you sir and you have a great day and a blessed one.
I just bought my first real black opal nobbies and a bottle of white opal. I'm excited, probably won't work on them until the fall when it's comfortable out in the shed.
I am so glad you and your family are okay! If I could get on a flight this afternoon and get back to Alice Springs, I would already be on the way to LAX. Watching you is a delight beyond measure.
Yay! Just lost a job. Now I can watch this live, and not worry about how much time is left on my break. 😆 Starting a new job tomorrow. But for now, I'll just soak this in
So sorry I missed you live....we have a lost dog here in WV we are trying to locate....but love the video....btw...originally from Pittsburgh, Pa!😇❤️...Happy Anniversary to you and your wife!❤️❤️❤️
Yay, body tone scales!!! And been wanting one of those gem torches for a long time. It's exciting to know there's progress towards making that available for us. Thanks for the update! Speaking of updates, can you please take one minute of recording time in the next video, to just show us a few of the windowsill pieces? Curiosity coupled with months of suspense is killing the opal addicted part of my subconscious. 😆
Hi Justin, Julia Boam from Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire UK here. I would also love to see what happens after you've polished the stones: if they have been set into jewellery etc. Give us a little dance whilst you're at it 😉 you know we love it really as much as your family do x
My wife Kristin and I just had our 25th anniversary together July 17th we have our 23rd anniversary on August 20th,so a big congratulations to both of you✌️ Napa California

The big crystal stone is beautiful and the stone that has all the colour radiating from the one spot is also beautiful, how much would they be respectively?
Thank you for inviting us into your world. That was a very successful group of stones. I can’t wait to see the final cut and polish.

The last stone is a stunner!! Both sides!❤️

Excellent session Justin 🍾🥂🎉🥳. Happy anniversary to you and your lovely wife 🥰
Love those black opals all blue purple green and breathtaking.
Dang it! I was up on the roof doing a little patch. I'll watch this tonight. Good to see your sidekick back too!
I love that you have a root tip elevator to dig out the sand! You should try a scaler for smaller, deeper sand. (Dental assistant here)
Just ordered my first crystal opal from Black Opal Direct and can’t wait to see it in person. Had to have a stone in my collection cut by Justin!

Hi Justin I am from New Hampshire, USA. Thank you for the birthday wishes and opportunity for a beautiful gem

The stone around the 30:00 mark, did it look like, blue/green and grey? Is that a camera thing or how it actually looked?
Hi from Coboconk Canada 🇨🇦
Hello TnT watching from Arlington Washington
Larry from Pittsburgh pa
I got you and I’m ready to go on the west coast USA
It would be so cool if you could make a little window from crystal opals. Ore a lamp shade so light can shine trough
I wonder how opal respond to UV light. Can you show us one please.
WAY better!!! Thanks!!!
What's the name of your polishing machine?
