Man I just wanted to say , keep it up even when it sets tough man, you have a gift for perfection and no one can take that from you if you don't let them. Know that others are proud to see your accomplishments ,and know your a gem.
I appreciate how much screen time you gave the finished stone, so many channels focus so much on the process and then rob us of the time to fully enjoy the end result.
I'm a geologist and gem quality quartz is very rare. Except for one little mining town I visited in the middle of nowhere, where flawless football sized quartz crystals were used to make garden verges.
Not for me 😊 I go to another club members' garage for anything lapidary and he somehow got his hands on a 55 gallon drum of glass-clear river tumbled Brazilian quartz a long time ago for $100 and now it's divided into a couple small buckets. It is amazing stuff and many of the pieces are a couple pounds.
AMAZING! Beautiful! I’ve never seen this being done before. If you would like to save acetone, put the stone in a sandwich or quart sized zip lock bag, put the bag in water in a sink with top still out. Pour in acetone and zip it with no or little air. The sink water compresses the bag and help get the air out.
Beautiful. I really enjoy your videos. Informative, good instructional narration, no gimicky unnecessary background music, etc.. Can't wait to see what you do next. Great job, thanks.
Gem cutting is such a cool mix of math, precision tools and creativity. Personally I get a bit paralysed when it comes to worrying about doing a bad job and 'wasting' time and materials. And that's with cheap stuff like painting minis! Gem cutting might not be for me but I love watching videos. Thanks.
Incredible talent and self taught ! I work in couture and am also self taught and people often ask how I can turn a piece of cloth into a beautiful gown or coat but it's passion for the craft. I often watch stone and marble cutters and metal workers, I love watching transformations. Thank you XO
First time seeing this channel. I'm absolutely blown away! Thank you for sharing this. It's interesting, informative, calming, and I don't want to stop watching. Thank you!
I'd put this at the same level of patience and craftsmanship as the learned masters that hand polish the blades of traditional Japanese swords to a mirror shine. The finished product can only be referred to as art.
Yeah, how the facets work together in the cut design is one part, the other is that a fine polish really makes a stone pop with that fine luster. Most commercial stones are not polished to this level.
Well done! This gem is really beautiful :) I would like to see it in sunlight, as the artificial light robs plenty of its shining potential. Thank you for sharing your kraftmanship. :)
Sometimes its a very niche therapy to watch a master at work. Explaining everything the way i would a job like life support equipment. This was an excellent thing to watch.

I don't mean to be mean or weird, but you know how people say people look like their pets? I just find it incredibly satisfying that a guy who can cut stone like this has a head shaped like a diamond.
How amazing both stones turned out, truly pieces of art. I’m gobsmacked you are self taught and only been cutting for 4 years. You truly have a natural talent for it. I’m looking forward to the pear shape and rectangle ones. 🥰👍❤
The clarity is spectacular. The cut you chose suits it well. I struggle to see it mounted in a ring. But, in case you were curious, I wear a size eight. Just saying.🤭💍
Ive always loved learning about different cuts gems can have, especially when i get to draw/paint/render them, but actually seeing the amount of artistry and skill that goes into the process is really inspiring! Thank you for your videos!
I like the tiny inclusions on the side of the top face. Its like leaving proof that it was actually made from a natural stone and isn't just regular glass.
Your angle for the base, and the number of face cuts of the base make that quartz pop with movement and brightness. Wonderful. My family did a lot of lapidary as I grew up. But, I always had a desire to facet. Did some rough cuts by hand, in a piece of rose quartz. Still have it.
Fascinating, for 4 years you seem like you've really mastered this art. What a win from the algorithmic monster this time around. I really enjoyed the voice overs and you explaining all the small details of your process. Especially including your philosophies on what you are doing and why. Really cool stuff. Take care.
You are definitely very cool! I do car tuning and also deal with super glue. it happens that it gets to undesirable places, such as tissue or skin, at such times I use pharmacy dimexide to remove it. Dimexide dissolves superglue quickly and is almost odorless, safe to inhale. I recommend
Excellent work! This was a lot of fun to watch and I love your idea of the comparison to a door knob: We had a door knob faced with a round cut quartz maybe thirty years ago. Thanks for sharing your work.
You’re absolutely amazing at faceting gems. I loved them both. But to pick a favorite I would say the first one. But make no mistake they are both stunning.
Perfecto Matt !......You didn't sound too excited at the beginning of the video..... after seeing your countless hours of polishing I now know why !..........
Don't know why youtube recomendded this to me but i gotta say im pleasantly surprised! That stone turned out beautiful! Gotta say I'm eager to see more of your work.
The cut quality is far superior to anything done prior to tables of shapes/angles for meet point faceting. Nor do many stones receive such an excellent polish - even exhibition stones.
You need to put this in a glass case with a laser security system and red velvet ropes so cat burglars can try to repel from the ceiling to steal it and replace it with a bag of marbles
wait... been working on this for about 4 years now... taught by attending the university of the internet... a craft that takes up your interest and time.. extra money to spend for equipment.. this is a skill this man picked up during covid haha! faceting is super easy actually.. especially when you have the equipment for it... You can also facet by making different hexagonal like shapes that aare cut outs and different sizes.. put your DOP stick, poking out the center of these cut outs.. put your stone on.. and much like your machine.. you set the flat part of your cut out on a surface that is close to your flat lap.. grind, then rotate to another flat spot, grind.. etc etc.. much like your machine that rotates the stone.. different angles, and sizes can all be adjusted too by chaning the shape of the cut out and the length of your dop stick
I am unsure what you are describing - do you mean a non-motorized method? Yes, basic slipshod faceting is easy. That is the method used by "native" gem cutters. They cuts stones for maximum yield, with little regard to brilliance, shape or proportion. Much of this is done with the jamb peg system. I sometimes buy such stones as preforms, rather than always working from rough. Matt, I like this one better than the round. Good job on getting a uniform girdle, which can be a bit of a challenge.
@@buggsy5 not at all.. the video I watched of the old white dude doing it, faceted a stone like you would with a machine... ok, picture a stop sign with the post coming out the direct center.. like an umbrella fthats flat on top and the gem stone on the bottom of the handle.. using these flat shapes and rotating/grinding.. you can achieve the same effects.. you can change ths shape of the stop sign and length of the post to achieve different cuts..
