@@gayladavidson9475 Yes, gourds work better than the houses in my experience. At my farm they occupy the gourds before the houses. Babies will leave the gourds just fine. Good luck!
We're suppose to get rain 5 days in a row. We don't have Martin's yet but I hope everyone in our area who do are prepared to feed them during this time. Can someone please tell me what you do in instances like this so I'll be prepared? I can't see myself standing out in the rain sling shooting food into the air like one video I saw.
Hi, this is our third year trying to attract purple Martins. We purchased the 8 gourd set that has the two purple Martin decoys with it. We play the dawn cd and this is the first year they've gotten close to our area. They fly high above them but they never come down to take a look. I'm starting to wonder if the decoys are keeping them from coming to look at the gourds even though they're purple Martin decoys. Does anyone have any comments/advice on this?
I also have the decoy I purchased from the PMCA. I am a second year wannabe. I got a subadult male check out my house last year, he perched right beside the decoy. He went into two of my compartments in my 12 unit Northern Star wooden house. He was too young to breed so no nesting. This year, I have a different sub adult male come, he perched right beside the decoy. Hopped all over the house. Went into 2 compartments. The next day, which was yesterday May 31, I got an adult male, I think the sub adult that was here last year. He also perched right beside the decoy. Went into 2 compartments and has been back 2 days in a row going in and out the boxes. The decoy does not bother him. I have been playing the Dawn song every morning.
@@jackieu8209 ok thanks. That makes me feel better. None of them came to look at ours. None have ever moved in. This is our third year to put them up. But they fly around all in our area so you'd think they'd notice them.
@@gayladavidson9475 Make sure your housing is what they would like in your area. Where I live in central Alberta, they seem to favor the warmth of wooden houses, which is why I have this material. Also large compartments. This is my second year as a wannabe, and I currently have an adult male, female, and subby male coming to visit a lot. They have all spent time in the house. I took this picture just today, all three are on the house..... these are all new birds. You can see the decoy at the very far right in the pic. They don't pay any attention to it at all. The decoy does not deter them at all. I will show my pic.....
You would need to buy the CD (link in the description of the video). Most people just connect to the internet and play this video on loop (or use Bluetooth speakers).

I have the gourd type. Can the baby's learn how to fly out of those? They don't have fancy porches for them to stand on lol

Is there a good daytime chatter CD to use to have something to play once it's kinda late for the dawn song?
