    Grew up in rural Norfolk, England, where we'd hear nightingales singing at night. Now so far away, and long ago; this brings back memories of an idyllic childhood.

    I am playing this right now, in my bedroom, while working from home. My cats are puzzled, they keep searching the ceiling for the culprit. I also played the recording on the terrace of my country cottage and two other nightingales joined in. It was pure joy, we all went outside in the garden to listen.

    I remember walking through Zagreb Croatia, in the mid 90s soon after the war, so early in the morning it was pitch black. But this nightingale would sing in this war torn place with as much beauty as anywhere. Thanks birds ! I’m not kidding .

      Lived a few months in an apartment on a hillside farm outside of Dubrovnik, Croatia. Opened our bedroom window in the middle of the night and heard a few of these claiming their territory in different parts of the valley. It was the first time I'd heard them. Prior to that I'd thought of the nightingale as almost a literary myth mentioned in poems and stories, rather than as a real bird I might hear someday. Listening to their beautiful calls across a moonlit valley, was a breathtaking experience. Suddenly their inclusion in literature made perfect sense. How many writers and poets had heard that night-time song?

The only other time I heard one in real life was in southern France when I was walking under an arcade of trees by myself. It felt other worldly. I read that the Nightingale can make up to 1,000 different sounds. Even the Blackbird's song has only 300.
    Ten days ago, a Nightingale decided to sing from the tree about 3 feet from my bed. He is so loud! He leaves us at about 5am, and moves to other trees nearby.
    We are truly blessed, and will enjoy his unsurpassable solo chorus until he flies back home to Africa.

    This has become my "lockdown" substitute for the real thing we should be hearing in the Cevennes, with the stream noise adding the touch of reality as we would also have that present. Our London blackbirds and robins do their best, but a background of construction noise from a nearby building site does not help when listening to them.

    This is so beautiful and soothing and precious. 💚🌳🍃🐦And it makes me wonder why do we destroy the forests that are the homes of these magnificent creatures and pollute the planet that we all have to share for a common future? 🐛🤍🤔

    • @ganymeade5151
      @ganymeade5151 3 роки тому +1

      Deforestation is heartbreaking and bad for the physical and mental health of humans and we must do everything we can to stop it and never, ever give up. When we destroy nature, we destroy ourselves. Destroying nature in the name of profit and greed must be stopped. Pray that it does, every day. Pray and act. The Lord God helps those who help themselves.

    I grew up in northern Italy and we have this beautiful song bird that likes to sing especially at night ( or maybe its more audible because of the silence).. such a heavenly sound.
