For Put It Straight they performed a nightmare version on Queendom 1 and I'm pretty sure that's what you're hearing. It was really good, I recommend watching the stage, their acting was great too, especially Soojin. Lion was actually the comeback they did for queendom, and yes, it is a masterpiece❤️🔥 The concept for Nxde is just pure gold. The message, the sound, the styling, the vocals, the production...I could go on👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Soojin's voice was my fav in gidle, such a clear AND beutiful tone. Not to mention her dancing was perfect always. Really hope she comes back or debuts again, bc I will be supporting!!
Alone in Winter was actually a songwriting collab between Soyeon and Ahn Ye-Eun who is a pretty big singer songwriter in Korea and apparently a fan of (G)I-DLE. She's known for blending traditional Korean folk influences into modern piano ballads and the atmospheric waltz feel to the piano is VERY Ahn Ye-Eun. If anyone reading this has never heard of her I'd highly recommend checking her out, she's incredible.
She's a real songwriting gem. And I love her voice. Huge fan of hers ♥ And her influence on Alone in Winter is soo heavy, that'S so cool!
For 'Put it Straight' that wasn't the original version of the song it was the nightmare version for their queendom stage performance ( which I high recommend you watch). Their original version for the song is a lot softer and emotional and doesn't have a rap in it.
When Soyeon is composing the song & writing the lyrics, she is very intentional about which member sings which part. (She factors in their vocal tone, pronunciation esp bc they have 3 foreign members, and this even influences the adlibs she writes in. Genius stuff.)
WHAT should I watch next?? Soojin's AOTM is definitely next as well as NXDE practice. What other bsides might i like? Also should I react to their behind recordings? I'd love some lives too if they have any.

Def recommend their performance of Put It Straight from Queendom. It Put the song in perspective more (at least for me) I think it's the performance mix that you listened to, but I could be wrong
Put It Straight is for a performance, so you need the Halloween version. For B-sides, I'm the Trend has a video. For audio only, do another Minnie one like Escape / Moon / Change. Yuqi songs are more ballad-like, so don't think you will like. If you are doing solos, then Soyeon - Bad Bitch Number, Yuqi - Bonnie & Clyde, Miyeon - Drive, Minnie on LeeMujin service

-Villain Dies (I don't even know how to describe it, it's Soyeon experimenting with music theory, it's a good prelude to Nude)
-Dark (Yuqi and Soyeon collaboration, very dystopian and disjointed)
If you react to the full "I Love" mini album, Soyeon has said to start from Dark (track 6) and work backward. It hits on different phases of a relationship.
To answer something that I hadn't seen answered already, the sample in Nude is "The Habenera" from the opera Carmen. Significant in that Carmen is also the story of a women whose intelligence is overlooked because of her looks who, like Marylin Monroe, evenually meets a disastrous end.

The way Soojin INSTANTLY caught my attention when I reacted to them, only for me to realize that she wasn’t in the group anymore😢
A main dancer indeed and dare I say, some of the best stage presence In their entire GEN🤌🏾✨
i don't particularly have enough knowledge to articulate this point either but i think what you're getting at with soyeon's style and chord selection is that on the circle of 5ths, she usually choses a singular direction and adjacent chords so therefore each chord perfectly flows into another because there tends to be a pitch that overlaps with the previous one. on top of that, she builds a melody that also builds in the same direction as the chords so it always feels like the whole soundscape is moving up or down with it. you can really hear this in the Lion chorus esp. and the member that constantly caught your eye? that's our soojin :( she is the one who is no longer in the group and has been out of the public eye for over a year and a half, not even a single sighting of her. she was idle's main dancer. and to this day, none of the girls even give themselves a main dance position because that's for soojin. they even joke about how they are bad at dancing lmaoo.
as for a musical with idle's music, i think if soyeon was allowed to have an unlimited budget to bring her vision to life, we'd probably get something like that tbh. i got to see them in concert recently and despite cube clearly not giving them a good budget for the sets/costumes/venues (and no backup dancers), there was so much purpose with the set list and it really felt like each time they wore new outfits it was a mini musical. the Lion performance on mnet even had an animated intro and a whole storyline to go with the performance, it really did feel theatric.
You “I don’t have much knowledge”, also you “DROPS KNOWLEDGE”! Lool yeah that sounds about right, I feel like she likes alternating between the same major and minor chords or at least keeping the movement very minimal.
@@Koko3op haha everything i know abt music theory is simply from youtube so take everything i say with a grain of salt :')
but yeah, i would also describe soyeon's style as minimal, which is why i think so many people find idle's title tracks so polarizing. much like teddy, she also has a title track formula but what stops it from sounding redundant (for now) is that the soundscapes/genres are completely different every time despite the melodies/song structure being pretty similar!
for put it straight nightmare version u really have to see the performance. they remixed it exclusively for that performance

She's incredible talented and wrote her entire discography as well as songs for others sometimes. She has some traditional influence with a unique color. You might would like to check her out? for these songs, dahlia is mainly made by minnie, others are mainly made by soyeon
There is a story in the "Lion" mv tho. There's a lot to unwrap. Also I think Soyeon helped directed the mv. She's known to make storyboards and PowerPoint for their comebacks and she also involves ideas for mvs
Nxde is masterpiece, such a fresh air in kpop. For the I love album you have to listen from track 6 to 1 to get the whole story evolution

Oh, I don't know if this was mentioned, but Hann (Alone), Hann (Alone in the Winter) and Hwaa are actually a trilogy! It's important context in the sense that a lot of people complain how similar they sound, when it actually done intentionally (although aitw has very different sound, but it is part of the story still)
Lion is really a work of art, my favorite of them.

Cube Entertainment was initially hesitant to approve of Nxde as the comback title but Soyeon pushed for it because she wanted to change how the word Nude was viewed. She wanted to break the stereotype that word nude was something sexual and make it be seen as being your true self. It's also helping stop searches for illicit videos and photos. In South Korea, the production, consumption, or distribution of pornography is illegal. This has meant that nonconsensual pornographic videos of women and children are common. The word '(G)I-dle's nude' has had inappropriate keywords such as "child nude" and "girl nude". The name (G)I-dle '(여자)아이들' in Korean comes from girl '여자' and children '아이들'. Although the song is stylized as 'Nxde', it is still written out in Korean as '누드' or Nude. The inappropriate keywords were replaced with '(G)I-dle Nxde' or '(G)I-dle nude' so when someone searches on social media the group’s Korean name or the word “children” (아이들), along with “nude” or “nxde,” (G)I-DLE and their content will now automatically come up instead of illegal, illicit photos.
Also, it became the first song by a K-pop girl group to make an American radio debut with a title song centered on Korean lyrics.

"Uh-Oh" is actually my favorite song by them. I love that 90s hip-hop vibe. That's also why I really like "Lady" by EXID.

You're right they performed 'Put it straight ( Nightmare version) in Queendom stage in 1st season, So you can feel this song should perform on stage. Anyway you should compare it with the regular version too, you will see the difference feeling and how great they did in one song that totally different vibe.
I am so glad to see that I am not the only one who thinks Lion is a masterpiece. For sure top 3 title tracks from them.
To me, G-idle's creativity showcase what happens when you let the members of girl groups have a say in production, lyrics, and concepts. Kpop has evolved when it comes to letting idols express what artistic direction they want to go, but that primarily applies to boy groups. Self-produced girl groups are rare to find and that really saddens me. That is no way to deny that has something to do with how misogynist Korean society (and Korean companies) are.
EXID is another group that was self-produced.

Yeah, on Put It Straight, I'm pretty sure that's live audio from the show, so that's why the mixing and spacing is a bit weird, but the live stage is amazing, once again, Soojin shines there SO much
It's actually a remix (or a nightmare version haha) of a B-side of theirs, that was straight-up a ballad! Very pretty and sad, but here they twisted it and made the same lyrics sound very resentful instead

Put it straight (nightmare version) was a remix of a b-side. The audio for the video you watched was taken from the stage production they did for Queendom. There is a better version of audio on the choreography video for this remix. I also recommend the original "put it straight"
