I think you are spot on.
Miyeon (the one in white with the jeans) is the glue that holds all these very different vocal colors together and who i would consider the stablest singer. She is very versatile in what and how she can sing and is very often on the chorus for that reason.
And Minnie + Yuqi is an absolute ridiculuos combination just from their different voices. They have done some godly duets for fun and i would kill for a unit.
Soyeon is a fantastic singer (not only for a rapper but in general) and i agree that she only sounds nasally when she wants too for effect.
Shuhua has come a LOOOONG way as a singer. She was very insecure about her vocals and her Korean and when Soojin was still in the group there wasnt really a purpose for her voice as Soojin had a similar soft voice but was the better singer and as Korean had of course the pronunciation. She put in alot of hours and now she is more than good enough for a sub vocalist.

Ur so spot on with miyeon's voice. Soyeon did say that she gives miyeon the choruses because her voice is for the general public.
Soyeon mentioned on a variety show that she purposely became involved in the training of course very one’s voices as she recognised how different everyone’s tones where, the fact that they were from different countries so may pronounce certain words differently etc and wanted to ensure that was used to their advantage- as opposed to being trained in the standard kpop way. Ugh I just love this group sm

i think what u said about miyeon's role is spot on. shuhua, minnie and yuqi are foreigners and soyeon has quite a unique tone, so its good miyeon kinda balances out their voices
Shuhua’s growth in confidence needs to be studied because before Soojin left she was so obviously terrified, I’m surprised they even let her debut tbh, but I’m glad they did because she really stepped up post-Soojin and look how she owned the entire NXDE era…
The company didn't want to debut Shuhua but the rest of the members said that they want Shuhua in the Group and kept pushing Cube until they agreed on leting Shuhua be a part of the Group. This really shows of how close this Group is with each other and how strong their bond is. Even before pre debut they were already ready to fight with the company haha

yes she's grown so much... but also being the maknae, it makes sense. She needs a few years to really bloom as an artist/performer. I will say I'm impressed in this video by her low register. It's really nice. You can also kinda hear her Chinese accent too.
@@toamszkozak8822 I think you don't know but the story you have written is true but not about Shuhua it was actually about Miyeon from the start Shuhua was meant to be in the new group but since Miyeon just joined the company she wasn't allowed to join the group with less training time in the company (even though she had years training in YG) but the other members insisted on her being in group and they were able to debut with 6 members
Shuhua has natural cold expression that I wouldn't call as "terrified" and I think you never really "studied" her since she started being more confident from lion era
minnie's voice is sooo unique its so underappreciated.
To me soyeon sounds more "round" when she sings. Her voice is the fullest of the group whereas each member has some level of "airyness" to their voice.. even when Soyeon goes "high" pitched her voice is still very much full. I also noyice she does a switch from nasal to the back of her throat type singing. For instance her "ba ba baaaa" in lion is giving me very much a mix of nasal and back of throat.. idk how to explain it but it's like a slight closing of the throat. Sis knows how to use them musculs to tweak or get the sound she's going for.
Gosh I've loved that girl since produce 101 when I first saw her. I was flabbergasted that she wasn't in the final group but everything happens for a reason. When she appeared on umpretty rapstar she showcased what I knew from produce 101... EXTREMELY talented, been stanning the good sis since! Absolute fave and babe!

Minnie and Yuqi subunit would be so powerful - they both have such unique voices, styles, and energy (their solo stuff is good too) that together it would be crazy. Soyeon is a god-tier artist on her own - she has everything. I hope to see more solo stuff from her in the future. Miyeon's universal quality of voice and Shuhua's softer vocal mannerisms often keep the songs cohesive. but overall, i love g-idle together because their voices are all different and diverse, as well as their personalities and energies but they all work together so the chemistry is great
I think you are right with Soyeon, defenitly knowing that she made all of this songs helps with that impression and also the fact that everytime she sings or raps she always gives 110%. I'm not saying that other members don't have passion for the music but clearly Soyeon is the one with the most passion

(I apologize in advance for how long this is lmao) Watching Queendom really made me realize how amazing Minnie's voice is. This just confirms it more😭 She has a very jazzy pop voice. Yuqi and Miyeon both have rich tones imo but it's just something about Yuqi's that hits different. Maybe the deepness that I dont hear super often in kpop plays a part idk❤. And I love that Soyeon is more involved because a lot of Killing Voices I see, the rapper just has fun standing there until they get to do one of their verses every other song☠️ It could be because her verses tend to play a big role in the songs instead of being an accessory to the songs, and she sings too. I feel like Shuhua is an alto because she sounded more comfy and more on pitch with her chest voice during lower notes, at least that's what I saw in this specific video. (Just my opinion tho, I literally know almost nothing😭) Like you said, I'd like to hear more of her falsetto and see her comfort with that cuz and alto with a pretty falsetto? Period.

I think Miyeon's voice is the most chesty in the group. I've heard her use chesty voice and mix voice a lot but rarely use head or falsetto.
AND I literally had the same thought like you. She sometimes sounds so mature that makes it sounds like a trot singer or ballad singer or something that just doesn't sound pop especially when she's singing in her low to middle range. But when she's in her high range or use mix voice, her voice just turned into a high-pitched girly pop singer. The difference can be heard clearly in her solo Drive Vs Teamo.

If you listen to Idle long enough, you realize that Miyeon has the most distinguishable voice even if she's not your bias. Also, when you see the members play around to mimic each other, none of them can do Miyeon.. and you realize its actually hard to mimic Miyeon

For me Yuqi's voice is very easy to mimic,even though I have a high-pitched voice.

Just recently gotten into G-idle due to my best friend really liking them. Not a huge kpop fan but liked Brown eyed girls and Ladies code years ago.
Absolutely love the unique voices of gidle and love that soyeon had a huge amount of creative liberty and producing skills. Considering how 99% of kpop is made, gidle stands out
Minnie and Yuqi have such unique voices yet they sound sooo good when they sing together, you should definitely check out the cover they did of Scared To Be Lonely on Weekly Idol, it was so short but so good
People will gravitate more towards western style of singing from Minnie and Yuqi and call it "distinct" when its not just that, in reality every member has distinct voices. Minnie has that soothing and dreamy tone that sets the mood of the songs thats why she mostly start their intros, she changes her way of singing based on the songs' mood but it causes hardship in catching her breath during live performances. But when she uses her actuall timber she sounds so hot still and can still convey the mood and vibe of the song. , Yuqi's deep voice wakes you up and just mesmerizes you, she is really stable on live performances together with Miyeon and Soyeon because these three uses their own timber and don't stylistically change it.
Miyeon is the glue for everyone, harmonizer of the group, people tend to forget or think past her stable vocals, pure vocal techniques and control, her vibratos are always timed and placed perfectly and no one notices it that's why you never hear her go flat when going high and low in notes while not losing that power vocals. Her vocals is = to her lives. I think she is the best vocalist within the group even though we haven't really gotten a TT that centers around her.
Soyeon doesn't need more explanation, a greatly capable singer, charisma, an absolute performer and can go toe to toe with the vocal line. She is way underrated for people who thinks that she only raps and having to know how to leverage different tones within the group and sing it by herself, just chefs kiss.
Shuhua has came a looooooong way and is becoming more and more confident with her singing. I think she/they should not try to force her to sing Soojins timber from their old songs and just add her own flare to SJ's lines, she was amazing with Nxde, and has showed her capabilities. Just a few more and i think we'll have a 5 girl vocal line.
You should hear Miyeons solo album to see her vocal ranges.
You can actually play with Miyeon’s voice a lot. Like she has SO MANY style(?) of singing, and she chooses her voice specifically for each song. You should check out Miyeon’s solo album and her OSTs to hear more from her.
re: Soyeon's difference when she comes in, I've always thought maybe its because at least to me she seems the most committed to the story of the song. She's the narrator essentially, the one bringing the message, and that comes across to me in her tone and the emotion she puts into every time she sings. The others do incorporate emotions as well obviously, but from her its just on another level.
Random thoughts: Soyeon's tone is somewhat unique & I do like her character onstage. She's def an ace. Yuqi's voice is yes!! Miyeon's voice has not changed since debut -- she's always been a consistent, solid vocalist. Minnie is super stable as well & her high notes omg I didn't know they were so good. Shuhua is slowly getting her shine time since Soojin left; her low voice is actually very nice. Another thing, these girls are confident singers when they sing too. Nobody seems shy/uncomfortable.

A lot of the time, the members has described Shuhua's voice as sort of a combo of all their voices, which makes sense considering she is the maknae. I'm just proud of her, as both an improved vocalist and she is also an amazing dancer now too. I'm glad she is still in the group.

The pronunciation of Shuhua’s name is almost like you’re saying shu-what but without the t :) the h is basically silent so it’s not shu-hue-a but it does make a lot of sense to say it with the h when you’re reading it🤣and yesss Minnie’s voice is soooooo gorgeous

You are one and only of Music analytics/professionals on UA-cam I have seen notice Miyeon's Vocal abnormality. Just barely but still.
I think it's more Western Musical education to blame than Students.
But Seems like Westerners dont have an ear for a very Valuable and even expected quality when it comes to Arabic and Slavic countries.
She basically sings 2 pitches at the same time, above her 40-45% power. So she technically creates a Harmony all on her own LIVE. She sings from the throat and reforms the reverb in he mouth again. (I am also aware this probably doesn't come out on Earbuds and Speakers too) Not always and she can control it well, but Most of the Time. It does not stand out in G-IDLE songs as Much, especially Title songs.
It's not supposed to, many Idols have to tone down to be on level with the group. And IDLE gives her more freedom than Others would. Especially LIVE. But It does in Her solo's like:

To Our ears Miyeon sings 20 years Older. She is Super mature IDK if its YG influence and training helping also, but her control is Way above even Super talented G-IDLE group. Even Older Singers on a show Like masked Singers noticed it, But Again they are Korean singers so Easterners hear it. Here:

I think Minnie and Yuqi have such distinct voices its hard to to write for that, while Shuhua and Miyeon have like you said more classic kpop voices. The stuff later sounds I think more unique to them because they've gotten a feel for their styles and I think soyeon has also gotten how to write for their style and it just creates this beautiful masterpiece that is G-idle

Minnie and Yuqi also heavily participate in the creation of their music and get more involved over time which is probably why the songs sound familiar yet unique even after all this time. I'm fairly sure Miyeon and Shuhua have tried their hand here and there as well

Gidle surprisingly has a lot of material if you want to go down the rabbit hole one day. Suggestions in order (but more suitable for Patreon than YT)
1. Since your bias is Minnie and you want to hear them on slower songs, just start by reacting to all Minnie-written songs across their last 4 albums (2 songs each album). I fell for Idle when I realized I liked the flip between Minnie & Soyeon songs on the albums
2. Miyeon sacrifices a lot for Idle to provide balance as you noted. But she showed personality on her solo album, which I liked. She steered away from pure ballads to strike a balance like Taeyeon. And it was actually a successful album locally in Korea
3. Yuqi is my bias and she has a few songs on Idle albums and 2 solo songs. Though, she's still kinda raw, both as artist & songwriter, I actually think she will end up as Idle's biggest solo star in future as she has a strong parallel career in China. If you are an Exo fan, I think you know where that is headed
4. Soyeon actually has a solo album that went under the radar. Its interesting to see how she writes without the hit producer mindset that she wears for Idle and makes you realize how good she is at being that
5. Shuhua is kind of the oddball musically. She has filled up the space vacated by Soojin very well but sadly I sort of remember how Soojin was better. She is a really cool idol/celebrity though and will probably transition into an actress in future

It's really impressive that they built a cohesive group around a lot of highly stylized singers. You'd think it's hard to blend but they make it work. They actually remind me of SHINee in that way.
Miyeon's stability explains why she was in the running for Blackpink too. That's another group that needed a more stable, even voice for blend and balance with stylized singers (Jisoo). Also in this group in particular, you need a native Korean speaker to balance out the vocal line. I personally love Miyeon's flow in more legato songs. She has a very lyrical voice.
Loved this! One of the things I adore about I-DLE is how versatile all of their members are - and it's so awesome to see their individual growth from the older songs to the newer
Being a kpop fan for over 11 years I would say that Soyeon was truly a gem. All rounder artist. Her dictation when rapping and singing were so clear and unique too!
I'm so proud of them I remembered when they debuted and now where they are I'm so happy they are killing it and not being afraid of being reckless 😭 I get emotional 😅
Thrs an article saying soyeon didnt want all the members to attend singing lessons by the SAME instructor as she didnt want them to all have the same soubd n lose the magic touch n unique sound thay each of the member has.. she wants to retain the essence of their special voice n love how diff each of the member sound 😊

Miyeon voice can be more aggressive than she normally does in most of (G)I-DLE singles. My bag is a B-side where she shows she is more than just a stick to technique but no own color kind of vocalist.
This album's not my fave honestly but I love the concept and this killing voice saved the title track for me ,was watching it yesterday and all I could think of is ur reaction to it

Miyeon actually has a really unique voice either. She fits so well to sing a disney princess song ❤ I think she didn't have lines that made her vocals shine until "Heat" era. Producers were different, i dont know maybe they gave Miyeon's vocals a chance... Heat is so good tho, i recommend it, love your reactions btw ❤

G Idle are not the strongest group when it comes to straight vocal skill but they can do enough with their vocals to make it interesting. The biggest thing is the their vocal color/style diversity. To be a successful pop/kpop act these days u gotta have an interesting vocal color and or singing style.
Shuhua is the weakest vocally. At least in my opinion.
