I think this album might be the most artistic and the most poetic kpop album I've ever heard. My favorite song on the album is Hann(AIW) infact, I'd say it's my favorite gidle song of all time. idk what it is about this song but it just touches my heart everytime.
Something interesting about MOON, they said that Minnie made this song but she couldn't really come up with suitable lyrics for it. when Soyeon heard the song, she loved it so much and offered to write the lyrics for it and that's how this song was born. to me, it feels like Soyeon is trying to hide from all the attention that's on her (The moonlight) and she just wants to hide and that's why she doesn't have any lines during the whole song almost as if she's hiding this whole time and in the end, she just sings one single line saying she couldn't hide 💔
Also, Dahlia wa written and composed by Minnie aswell and Lost was written and composed by Yuqi (Yuqi and her guitars making miracles haha) Soyeon wrote her own rap parts for both of these songs like she always does with every Yuqi/ Minnie song
I enjoyed this video so much and I'm so glad you're back with more idle content again thank you for this video 🥺❤

Minnie wrote Moon and Dahlia, maybe that's the vibe is different. The thing I love the most about (G)I-dle is that each member has an incredibly unique music style with Soyeon being a rap queen, Minnie focusing on more ethereal, fantasy-like stuff, Yuqi being a rockstar etc Soyeon refused one of Cube's vocal trainers specifically because she noticed the girls' voices were starting to sound the same and she didn't want to lose their uniqueness. And when they come together it *works*. It's so great.

Agreed with everything but I gotta throw in a small correction: Minnie wrote (and composed) Dahlia but she didn't write Moon, she composed the instrumental and then showed it to Soyeon, told her the title and meaning she wanted the track to convey, and let Soyeon work her magic.

@@lshe97 - Yes, a lot of people still don't know that. Minnie composed and arranged Moon, and Soyen wrote the lyrics. Same with "For You", which may be my favorite (G)I-DLE song, Minnie composed and arranged that as well and Minnie and Soyeon wrote the lyrics.

@@coolandtrending Ooo, For You is excellent, even if I do prefer Tung Tung - half my top 10 I-DLE tracks are Minnie-composed ones 🤭
Both Minnie and Soyeon are credited for For You (same in Tung Tung), but I think if you break it down its basically Soyeon being credited for her rap verses while Minnie is the "lead lyricist"

@@lshe97 - Agreed. And Tung Tung may be one of their most underrated songs. I loved watching Minnie play piano during her V-Lives (R.I.P. V-Live), she would play For You and Tung Tung a lot. I hope they find another platform, I really miss seeing them so often. Even tho I can't speak Korean fluently, I was able to follow along sometimes and it was nice to see them frequently.

I think people sort of forget/take for granted that Latata and Hann are only a few months a part. (G)I-DLE had a break away hit for a small group that just debuted, and instead making Latata pt 2 like most groups would have, Soyeon goes in a completely different direction. It's because of this, I think, that (G)I-DLE is able to seamlessly change sounds and genres because they've been doing it since day one. Again... Senorita is next, and again, only months apart from Hann. That's pretty risky. If, for instance, ITZY decided to change their sound like this, I think people would freak out except for the most loyal of stans. Also, the brilliance of having Soyeon as part of the producing line is that while we have a wide variety of genres, tones, sounds, and what not, Soyeon's way of writing and arranging makes it all feel like it's still in the same family. (G)I-DLE really doesn't get the proper credit on just how difficult juggling all that is, and still making hit songs.

  • @YukiT14

Your commentary about Soyeon hiding in Moon was spot on. Minnie composed Moon but asked Soyeon to come up with lyrics for it. So her hiding during the song only to pop up at the end as if she was hiding like the lyrics say is kinda genius to me haha. Also a lot of fans thought the song was about being unable to hide when you're famous too!
If you'll react to I Never Die too can I suggest that at the end of the songs you try to guess who wrote and produced the songs and see if you were right. I think it would be very interesting to see :P

Thank you. The complete album is really fabulous. With this album, i was addicted to Idle. I have not heard another album in Kpop that took me so completely. The voices, the music , the rap.... the symbolism of a really hurtful breakup and the hope of forgetfulness and renewal is very present all throughout the songs. Also the hope of a new love or even , maybe, the return of the old love, we don't know exactly what was expected or wished for. Beautiful and ambiguous just like love and (g) idle are.

I am not sure if you have listened to all albums (I watched your "I Am" and "I Made" reaction), but small fun fact/my take on each albums:
    - I Am: contrary to my initial belief, Soyeon made the title track (latata) and probably wrote only the rap part of other songs. Hence, this album felt kind of incohesive at time. There is of course, some of great B sides like MAZE, but also some of it are not my favourite. Latata is catchy, something that is safe for a newly debuted group. It gave you a taste of what Soyeon could do, but as you mentioned in I AM reaction, not going all out.
    - I Made: as the name suggested, this is the first album that each track made by Gidle (composing and writing wise) mainly Soyeon. Minnie made her first debut song with "Blow Your Mind" too. Senorita is a step up from Latata in term of musicality, like it is more interesting, but Latata is kinda catchier. The B side songs are much better here. From depressing "Put It Straight" to cool refreshing song "What's Your Name". Not my top favourite album, but i will listen to it from time to time.
    - I Trust: when i was a newbie Nevies, "Oh My God" used to be my ultimate fav title track and "I Trust" used to be my favourite album. The presence of "Oh My God" and "Lion" in one album is just giving them unfair competition against the rest. "Maybe" also used to be my favourite B side. This album I think is really heavy on electronic sound, the fact that Soyeon wrote every single songs in the span of 6 months, it makes this album super cohesive. It sounded that it really belong into same album. The MV, there is no other way to put it, but it is artistic to the point people still try to figure out the storyline until today.
    - I Burn: Simple, a masterpiece! I think if previously I only saw and admired Soyeon for her skill as a composer and producer, through this album, I also started to admire her as a captain. This album marks the first time producer line contributing to the album (not counting "Dumdi Dumdi" + "I'm The Trend" coz it's a single). Each of them (SY, MN, YQ) has a very distinct different production style and music preference, but they make it work. I think this is the first album that made me fell in love with Minnie's style, dreamy and slight sentimental (something that you will keep encountering moving forward).
    - I Never Die: the background story i heard about this album is that after the whole Soojin scandal, the company thought it would be hard for them to recover their popularity so this is the album born out of anger, desperation and sorrow, also maybe slight resentment. Even the album title (which kind of broke their usual 2 words pattern "I xxxx") signifies if this is their last dance (no pun intended), they have to go out with a bang. "Villain Dies", "Escape", "Polaroid" probably other songs too are a nod to her. In particular, "Escape" is my favourite song by Minnie, she said it's word she wishes to hear when she is in bad place, I am quite sure you will enjoy the lyrics too.
    - I Love: Soyeon said the whole album needs to be enjoyed from last track to first track because it tells a story about process of loving oneself, in Sculpture it says something like I can be whoever you want to make me to (which is unhealthy look on a relationship) to Love/Nxde where the main character said I will be whoever I want to be because I rather be happy in my own skin. My favourite B side here is Dark (x-file), it is such a pity that the MV was too short.
    - I Feel: probably to dates, the most detailed and creative teaser games they have done, the whole Netflix concept is so fun~ especially if you are a fan and you watch their variety show pre comeback + all their teasers and pre release and finally Queencard release itself. My favourite B side at the moment is both "Lucid" and "Paradise" (not coincidentally both were written by Minnie).

I also have to say, I think their English version of Hwaa is beautiful. Not better than the original, but beautiful. It also has a pretty cool remix (so it must have gotten some popularity in the West?) & a Chinese version!

I Burn is my and probably most of Nevies' absolute favourite album. It is like producer lines' most beautiful and probably heart breaking album (there is "I Never Die" but it is for different reason of course).
You are absolutely right about Hann (Alone in Winter) and Hwaa being 3 years later. Actually Cube rejected this, just ended up Hwaa being their (arguably) most artistic album and (at that time) their best ever selling album.
Hwaa is this interesting song, because it tries to accomplish talking about burning the pain of regrets (Fire) and the hope of welcoming spring (Flower). Soyeon mentioned that this song was inspired by Shuhua (if it is not wrong, Hua of Shuhua in Chinese character means flower too). That's why if only the Hwaa (Flower) in last chorus/outro sung by her (in the MV, she bit onto flower).
