It's definitely exciting seeing craft distilleries grow up. Finger Lakes Distilling released their first ten year single malt a few years ago, from barrels that were filled less than a month after they got their still running. Unfortunately, I never got my hands on it. They only produced 350 bottles.

I want to thank you guys for helping me to talk to my cab drivers about alcohol, getting me excited to go the tower bar, and just making me way more excited to be here. I’m hoping I will be able to convince my friends to go to where you guys shoot this so that I can take a picture. Also the pizza in Dublin is better then in then the United States. I’m still in shock.
I’ve had Glenfiddich 15 year old scotch aged in Spainish sherry casks so I didn’t think being aged in wine casks was so unusual. Oregon has several good distilleries. I like Stein Distillery in Joseph Oregon (Hell’s Canyon area)which has some very good bourbon, rye, and cordials.
Not all American whiskies are bourbon or rye. There is a lot of experimentation out there in both whiskies and beers. Many of them come up way short...but there are some breakthrough whiskies/beers that will survive and develop a good following.

The milkshake are called malteds. They are milkshakes that have malted milk powder added. The powder adds a unique nutty flavor to the concoction. Malted milk powder does not contain nuts though . Instead, it contains dehydrated wheat flour, malted barley, and milk. It tastes naturally sweet. In America there is a candy called Whoppers that are malted milk balls that are malted milk powder centers covered with chocolate. They are often found in Easter candy shapes. You either like them or you don’t.
All y'all have tried whisky and whiskey aged in old wine barrels. But just a small amount of this usually goes into the finished product. These particular whiskies have a much higher percentage of the wine barrel aged whiskey in them.
Our local distillery has a tour where they have the different grains in all stages of roasting and hops if they brew also, and to try just those impart flavors into the palate that when you sample the booze you really pick up on them.

I have all three Westward whiskeys featured here. I fully expected to like the Pinot Noir cask finish best, because I love that varietal, but the Stout finished is a superb whiskey.
Love the reaction. I love whiskeys from pretty much anywhere. Japan has some wonderful ones, which caught me by surprise. For me, personally anything above 45% alcohol I usually add several drops of room temperature still/spring water to it, which really helps open a good whiskey up. So many great choices and whiskey is very much like wine in that there are so many different aging options and barrel options you can endlessly try different versions. Love it and have a wee glass almost every night.
If they are more than 40% you should add a drop or two of ice cold water to your glass. Just a single drop or two, mind! It gets you past the alcohol strength and really unlocks all the subtle flavors underneath. Try it if you don't believe me, and you're welcome in advance!

Balcones Single Malt is my favourite American single malt. Favourite American whiskey so far actually. Haven't tried Westward yet.
Skip Westward and go for some Westland. Those guys are making some amazing stuff.

OK, the pecan thing - In the northern US its a pa-cahn. Southern its a Pee-Kan. No where is it a peek-en....
Grew up in Massachusetts, everyone I knew said pee kan. But assachusettes is a weird (craptastic) place.
There is this city in Illinois called Pekin. Pronounced peek-en. Was named after Peking, China.
"No where is it a peek-en...." Except, in places like Ireland where it is. The word isn't American, FFS. People have different accents.
In my family I was the only one to pronounce it pee-kan.
