Good video. A good dentist can be hard to find. I am glad you found one. I look forward to the followup. I had a significant amount of dental work performed in the US. I saved 10's of thousands by having the work done at a dental school. The work was performed by a student, so it took much longer, though, it was supervised by faculty dentists. I am very happy with service and care at about 1/3 the cost.
If you on the NHS In for a check-up it's about £ 26 >and then the next step is about 60 and the next step one is £ 300 . But if you go private do not know.
I require a replacement crown here in UK, and my dentist quoted me 1,700 GBP, and the option for an implant at 3,400 GBP ! 😮 Needless to say I am heading to Cebu in the Philippines for treatment and was quoted 290 GBP 😅
Nice video Les, I'm in the same boat over dentist's had a few really bad experiences as a kid, I remember one experience when dentist did a filling no anaesthetic & he just told me to count down from 60 to zero & it would all be over, right psychopath imagine if that were to happen these days. I'm a child of the 1960's & dentist were a very unpleasant place to go. This is just one of many bad dental experiences I endured which has lead to me only going to a dentist when I am desperate but have had to go for some serious treatments over the years. I know thing's are much better these day's & I've even considered going over to Bangkok as I've seen some dental hospitals that look very good with state of the art equipment. Best thing for me would be get everything I need done at once under sedation & have it all out of the way. My teeth are not unsightly but if I had the spare cash think I'd like a full dental make over for sure.
Same as me my childhood visit to the Dentist is as vivid now as it was then. Hopefully once the New Crown has been fitted I will do a yearly visit for cleaning and that is it, I have got a bit of confidence back about going to the Dentist. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Les, talk about timing. Two days ago I went to the dentist to have a problem tooth looked at. The tooth has a large filling in it and is starting to show stress cracks around the edges of the tooth. So they recommend in order to save it from breaking up, I should have a crown put over it to preserve the tooth. As the tooth is towards the front of my mouth I want to keep it rather than have a gap. However after they explained how much it's going to cost I was thinking I might try and get it looked at in Thailand. I am an NHS patient and it will cost me...£900😮 Unbelievable 😡
The maximum you would have to pay on the NHS is £319.10, that would include everything, so if needed you could have a filling, a tooth extraction, a bridge, and a crown, all in if you needed it, and if anything went wrong with the treatments within a 8 week period, it would be put right at no additional expense! Not bad value tbh. Now you're only trouble would be, would be too actually find a NHS dentist that is taking on NHS patients!
NHS crown are the cheapest, standard metal so I’d imagine the one les is getting is either porcelain or zirconia. With zirconia which is the strongest and most expensive they also colour match your teeth !
They will do a color match and slightly make it longer so it matches the other teeth around the crown. Do not know the material, the last one lasted a good 20 years lets hope this one lasts as long. Thanks for watching.
As has already been said, getting an NHS dentist is a struggle and I feel, rightly or wrongly that they make a point of only doing one thing per visit so that each time you have to pay the exam and tier fee rather than looking properly and doing a bit of preventative work included. My check up's these days they barely touch/check anything other than the one that might be causing a problem.🤔
@ most likely zirconia crown then for that price since I don’t think they can colour match porcelain crowns. It’s about 1/3 of the price of private in uk
Had one of mine replaced under the level 3 nhs Les last year paid the £319 max also got a root filling done plus 3 other fillings and a descale and polish included so not too bad all in all ,, private wise I dread to think
Of course, in many parts of the UK, especially rural areas, it is really difficult to find an NHS dentist right now. Even a private practitioner might be quite difficult.
Hi Les. I also had a crown on the NHS at £319 but trying to get a NHS dentist is virtually impossible in the UK. My daughter had to go private for a check up £49, Xray £66 and they told her she needed 9 fillings at a cost of £1,200, Like you she hates going to the dentist. All the best Graham.
In Wales UK, cleaning the teeth under NHS £60 and a crown about £300. So not much difference in price between UK and Thailand. I remember looking at the prices in a dentist in Thailand in the early 2000's and it was quite a bit cheaper than the UK, so it looks like prices have gone up in Thailand.
On nhs you will only get a cheap metal crown though so you can’t compare the price as there are different types. Standard metal, porcelain, Zirconia etc, zirconia is the most expensive one, its strongest one
I did crowns in vietnam, saigon. Cost me 7600 for a ziconia crown. I did crowns for 32 teeth 2 years ago. I highly recommend going there to do it. Very clean and very profesional. Many westerners go there for dental and they get a free trip for the total cost. It took them 8 days to do it all.
@@RetiredandLivingthedream On the down side a famous dental hospital off sukhumvit charged me 6k baht for one filling 18 years ago ALWAYS ask the price first
It’s very expensive in 🇺🇸 such as dental Bridge cost $ 3,000 per 3 🦷 🦷 🦷, Osseous surgery $ 450. Please take good care of your entire mouth: , teeth, gums … so on.. not joking ! Thanks for your input.
A new crown cost me 5,000 baht earlier this year. Done at a clinic, but by my usual dentist who is also a lecturer in a dental faculty near here, with lots of experience. I haven't been to a UK GP or dentist for about 40 years. I have a medical card still, but I am no longer eligible for a GP after 32 years out of the country. That would seem to pose no particular problem, but 7 years ago I needed a diagnosis unavailable in Thailand, but no UK GP was available who could refer to a specialist. Luckily, I was accepted straight away by a private clinic, that also do NHS referrals. It cost me a bit for a single appointment, but I got the assessment on the same day. Other clinics would have charged more, but this one is renowned for careful and quick work. Again, an older clinician with loads of experience! By the way, over the years I have had both my impacted wisdom teeth removed here by hospital dentists. Neither were easy, but I obviously fared better than my sister at Birmingham Dental Hospital with exactly the same problem.
I would very much like to know the name of your new dentist. We live in Ban phe and also have a house in Krabi where we are now. We are returning to Ban Phe next week. I may try and contact you.
