this new engine has so much potential, having the xdrive just makes more sense. Just with a tune and you're in the high 10s and maybe high 2 sec 0-60. Plus the confidence of all that traction at your disposal. And if you're feeling nostalgic one day.. just switch it off and have some fun. I think this is the total package.
Some have got 3.0/2.9 second m4 rwd competitions. Imagine what the mxdrive is really capabale of. Even a stock m340i is quicker to 60 and real life speeds than a c63s amg
im a f80 driver since 2014 and i have problems with the new design.... sometimes it can be cool on different angeles and sometimes it is ugly... but i think the touring version of the G80 with x-drive will be a good selling car for bmw.
Currently playing with my build with the configuration tool. Biggest selling point for the rwd imo is the manual transmission. Sure the auto is "faster," but for day to day use, I think the manual would be more fun 🤔. Individual, CCB's, M buckets and a tune sure does sound golden to me. But then again...
Just to play devil's advocate: I realise adding the xdrive is only a few grand more, but for those of us who are trying to keep an eye on how this additional expense all stacks up over the base price, can I can ask whether it really is worth it (given the reputed brilliance and competence of the RWD model's traction in everyday driving)? I ask this as a M340i owner who has really respected what the xdrive system does to handling when you want to be a bit cheeky with the throttle in winter conditions, but who also knows (as a former RWD owner) that in the vast majority of situations the limits of grip in a RWD 3er are often driver-provoked more than anything. In other words, if you're sensible in a RWD G80, is the xdrive really that essential, especially when so many reviewers have already attested to its outstanding grip and seemingly endless traction, even in challenging conditions. I'm asking out of genuine curiosity (and because I've not yet had the opportunity to test drive a G80 in either set-up), and not because I'm querying the findings of your very informative and balanced review. Thanks!
Ask yourself when it snows, if that matters to you. My e92 m3 was an expensive paperweight for several days of the year - not that it bothered me, but it might others.
I've got RWD in my M3. Heavily modified, it's making well over 750bhp. I could get a 2.XX 0-60mph, but it's simply impossible with RWD and no form of competent launch control. I would LOVE xDrive in my car. If I ever upgrade to a G80/G82, I plan on also going for an xDrive option, simply because I plan on modding that too.
This car weighs 4000 pounds and has over 500 HP. For most people an AWD, automatic version makes sense. If you are someone who loves kicking out the tail end and punching through gears this might not be the one. You might want to go for a manual gear box with RWD. Those grilles did.
@Evolve Automotive Okay Imran, so a which is the better choice in your opinion, a used M5 Comp or new M3 Comp xDrive?
Used M5 would be substantially cheaper, and since you say used I assume you’re bringing value in to it?
@@EvolveAutomotive Yes I would but I was just talking about the handling & power. Here in the US, a 2019 M5 comp & a new M3 are roughly the same price. Thanks Imran👍🏾
Keeping standard or modified?
@@EvolveAutomotive Always modified! 😜
Loving it
what does a stage 2 on 93 octane runs ???
What about in countries wjeee there’s a lot of snow and ice in the winter? Will it be better than a 2wd?
I’d imagine so yes
Main bearings fail on the S58
:( There is a service information buletin now, check your dealer. They f***d this engine design up... :(((
It's only a relatively small number of cars. For example this car does not seem to be effected.
@@EvolveAutomotive all are affected it seems, design issue, but bmw will not cover, too many cars as I understood correctly from the tech of the dealership. Will see in the future.
Quite contradictory from what has so far been released that it is only a small batch. Especially as the S58 has been in the X3/4M for a couple years now. Small manufacturing/assembly issues happen, and the manufacturer will often recall more than they need to if they can't fully pinpoint what cars have been effected.
We shall see if it is an issue that manifests itself over time.
@@MrVanuvanu is that already on stock ones or only tuned?! Ridiculous. They also share the same weak cast iron connecting rods from the s63tu4 engine from the f90 m5, just to make matters even worse…
@@av8743 stock ones 😕
Another person who doesn’t own the M3 discussing the M3, classic.
I have a G80 M3, F80 M3, 2 x E92 M3, E46 M3 CSL. Is that enough M3s for you? Oh our XDrive has been on order for ages. It lands soon.
4wd saves lives
What are your opinions on the manual m3?
Not available in the U.K. so can’t comment. Our friend Joe Achilles has driven one so check out his video!
AWD hasn’t but the styling has!
This is the one I'd pick. The RWD boys can sit spinning on damp roads, and then head into a hedge lol
My grandma can drive an automatic car 😘
She's reeeeally old
4 wheel drive foot down car for heavy footed people.
I'll stick with 455bhp through the back wheels, because I'm skilled enough to drive it. Only AWD muppets like you would end up in a hedge lol !
@@DjNikGnashers God forbid you have to roll into the power and can't floor it everywhere 🤣
100-200kmh time will suffer slightly compared to the rwd but that’s small sacrifice.
Not when its in rwd mode
