  • Detective Mike King (‪@ProfilingEvil‬) takes us into the Zion Society Cult that he helped to uncover and expose. It revolved around the cult leader Arvin Shreeve, who made members do unspeakable things. Mike was featured on Dr. Phil, shedding tears after being reunited with the surviving memebers of the cult. He has worked on programs for the FBI and helped police departments across the US in dealing with true crime cases. In his decades on the job, he has uncovered some truly harrowing crimes, and today he’s talking about how he helped expose and break up the Zion Society Cult.

Really enjoyed this interview. Had not heard of this one. Would love to hear an episode of the Lev Tahor cult which was another I hadn't heard about until recently. When he mentioned generational cults made me think of it. I believe there's a young guy on YT who escaped, literally, as its surrounded with guards and prison like deterrence and makes some videos and short films and stuff. He'd probably do an interview is my guess.

The problem I have w it is that the writings of Joseph Smith completely conflict with the Bible. The Bible says that by grace we've been saved if we believe. Mormonism seems to be about working their way to heaven.
Bible says nothing shall be added or taken away from it. These added scriptures aren't ok.
As far as polygamy, it definitely is not healthy as far as relationships.

If a couple divorces, he can marry and remain sealed to his ex wife and remarry, giving him 2 eternal wives. Hearing what appears to be a good man, lying (unless he’s ignorant about actual church history) made this too much for me. Joseph Smith did precisely what he claims other men in The Zion Society did. In fact, without Joseph Smith, there wouldn’t have been a Zion Society as one spawned the other.

Hi! Thanks for doing this show about this cult! Turns out I have Mike's book on my kindle and I haven't read it. S now I will. I feel like I have to say something about polygamy. All over the world, in places where polygamy is legal and places where it is illegal, when polygamy is practiced, the status of women and children sinks down to about that of a cow, a possession. Young girls are forced into marriages they don't want to be in, often to much older men. And when you are raised and indoctrinated into the belief that this is your destiny, you do not have choice. If a man has 40 or 50 kids, is he really going to be a good dad? And for a woman to share her bed with her husband once a week or once a month, knowing that on the other nights he is with his other wives? . I've read a lot of books on this subject, it's evil, and very destructive for women and children. Tell me if I'm wrong, but I think you are not thinking about those situations, but something like if a guy has a girlfriend and her best friend is over all the time and the three of them deco they want to all be married or a lady is with her boyfriend and his best friend was all always around and the three of them decided to all be married. I don't agree with that, but it's a totally different situation than these systems that exploit women and children. Another thing is that sexual abuse is rampant in these huge families where there is too many children to look after and protect them properly. As you can see, I feel very strongly about polygamy. I would love to hear your thoughts in response to this comment!! Thanks!!

She explains researching and finding out the true history, and it sounds like much of it is available in actual church doctrine. (Which I assume they're "allowed" to read.)
But she describes being shocked to learn the real origin story, that it is completely different from what she believed her entire life, and that she instantly knew the whole thing is BS and she'll never believe any of it again.
I wonder what those details are, besides learning that Joseph Smith was a polygamist? But even moreso, WHY most Mormons don't understand the beginnings of their supposed religion? Can you shed a little light for me please?

I'm not attacking him I want clarification for his judgment calls. If you use the bias Of his own religion to dictate how all other religions should relate to his societal rules against the rules of mormonism then there is a problem. I'm not saying it's a cop didn't do the right thing. What I'm saying is would he in turn Have a judgment call on his own religion And by doing so he acknowledges that he can be punished by his Religion.
The problem here is he justified his judgment calls based on his religion. Cause he should not have brought in religion into this construct of a case Unless he was going to utilize it in analysis of said case.
I'm not picking on moronism the same thing is held by Jw's and others. And in all cases is antithetical to American Judicpudence (sp?)

My problem with polygamy is that it is sexist. If women can also have more than one husband I am all on board with it. As long as both genders are equal I have no moral objection to it. Also of course all marriages must be with individuals over the age of 18 and fully consensual. Unfortunately, in most religions and countries it is very sexist. Men can have as many wives as they like but women are essentially property. Women cannot date or marry other men and that is not fair.

You do multiple videos on cults, but while you have this guy here you can't question this cult member in an interview about the cult he is in (LDS) and their record of defending child abuse perpetrators? I understand not wanting to upset your guests off the bat but surely at some point you could have raised the issue and he could have set the record straight and shared his stance on the whole thing. How can you just interview a guy like that when he openly admits to being in a cult that has been known for covering up abuse? Did he make you sign something beforehand?

So sure, show me a religion where women are encouraged to have multiple husbands, and, yeah, I’ll go along with polygamy. The problem with polygamous societies is the daughters born into them always become chattel.

    • @lesliewells1062
      @lesliewells1062 Рік тому

Exactly!! Polygamy is a general term for a spouse having more than one spouse. What we are talking about here is actually called polygyny--a husband having more than one wife. For a wife to have more than one husband is called polyandry. That is extremely rare. I read a book by a lady that was raised in a culture like that, I think it was in Mongolia. And that way of life is dying out. Also, I'm pretty sure some Native American cultures practiced polyandry. The book is called Leaving Mother Lake by Yang Erche Namu. And it is in the Himalayas, not Mongolia. When I looked it up on Amazon, I saw that it is only 1.99$ on Kindle. I would highly recommend this book. It's probably an account of the last polyandrous society to exist.

Around 10 min on......while listening to his talk about faith, I was reminded of an out of print book that sheds light on this theme. It's called The Power Tactics Of Jesus Christ and Other Essays....by Jay Haley....it is a series of sardonic essays, mostly about psychotherapy and group phenomena. But the lead essay, describes Jesus as a power manipulator, who developed a number of "tactics" to influence large groups of vulnerable people...
Haley also once studied in the seminary, so he describes his particular tactics and how this contradicts with actual scriptures...I'm Jewish but it wasnt the least bit off putting....there are also equally sarcastically written essays such as "How to be a failure as a private practitioner ( a pitch for brief solution focused therapy) or "The Art of Psychoanalysis" ( a spoof on the subject, boiling it down to power games)...."The Amicable Hippy" ( a commentary on parenting) and the like....Haley was a pioneer in the family therapy field and a communications researcher. "Try it you'll like it!" ....lol
    Nice video 🙂

There are major churches built on a false foundation. Otherwise, I'd guess people believe whatever they want to believe, leaving God out of it.

I've always like Mike King and found him to be so balanced, gentle and fair. This interview is a home run. I am sitting here wondering if I'll ever hear a better interview on ritual abuse. I just ran across this channel and I am wondering if there are examples of cults that forcefully make young men have sex with minors, or minors (older ones) to groom younger children in preparation for assault by adults? How would the legal system deal with these situations ? Would the older kids be accountable if there was threats and force applied? I've read about this in another country. Not asking because I am curious but because I think we may be seeing a court case where this happened.
