I got turned on to JANIS and a few others by a good friend in 1967, that went to collage somewhere in NEBRASKA and Big Brother and JANIS were in concert there, he had 8 tracks of them and we smoked weed and drank beer..good times....THAT was my start, a few concerts then off to WOODSTOCK...YEeeeehaaaaaa
Piração total! É Janis Joplin no olho do furacão. A melhor vocalista de Acid Blues de todos tempos. Sem comentários, é só curtir o que de melhor foi feito na década 60/70.
YEAH!! this is the version ive been longing to own: Got bits of it on a BBC Documentary but wanted the full version-great post! I reckon Janis is "the girl who sang the blues and i asked her for some happy news" on Don Mcleans American pie....Scuse me while i light my spliff...
LOVE this upload!!! So good to see Janis singing her heart out....and excellent views of the band to see how well everyone worked together to let Janis SHINE. Miss her sooooooo MUCH!!!
@balto4 I only became a serious fan of Janis in the last two years...when I became conected too the internet, & i'm 53. People take for granted access to live shows...which we never had when I was younger. It makes me feel good that very young people are appreciating great music of the past & Janis is certainly among the greats. God rest her troubled & pained soul in peace.
I saw her in Toledo. The police were making people sit down. She said from the stage that if the music made us want to dance then we ought to get up and dance. She said it was some trouble putting on these shows and we owed it to the music and the musicians to fkn dance when we were moved to.
@Kristopful Janis is my fav female artist and I'm 29,long after she died. I became a fan when I was 16,I don't really remember how though but I have been a fan since. No one can come close. I was a teen when I became a fan I prefer older music for sure
This is a real woman in the real World, (past) Who gave her heart & soul into all her performances. It pains me when ppl are critical of her because she was vunerable. Are not we all? Where is the real emotion from present day singers/bands.? I've notice a great many young ppl turning to older music in greater numbers, & loving it...even teenagers. This is a good trend & may save conventional music from the Abyss.
@dvdct77 Yes you are so right. It was very sad. She had people, but it was a very different time from what you are going thru... there were a lot of drugs, and drink and each person around her was young also, and facing the same situations...When she died, it was heartbreaking... I was a young girl and she was just right there in front of me, I mean my hero.... what a singer.......................
OMG - watched the version from Monterey Pop festival - I believe the most intense live rock performance by a rock female vocalist - we need a 2010 version of the J woman
Ni siempre los músicos precisan ser ''virtuosos'', había una química entre ellos y con la cantora, pena que no se los bancó y los largó, para mi fué la mejor época de ella.
@kilts4u2 Well he was recognised. He was "it" prior to Janis joining the band. He was what set the band apart. Then Janis joined and it went from Big Brother and the Holding Company to BBHC with Janis Joplin, and then towards the end they'd be introduced as Janis Joplin with BBHC...pissed them all off a tad, not least James.
@kilts4u2 Well that was the problem, apparently prior to Janis joining the band James' guitar playing had been one of the main focal points. His playing was what set them apart. Then, as I'm sure lots of people will know Janis joined and it went from Big Brother & The Holding Company to Big Brother with Janis Joplin, and then they started getting introduced as Janis Joplin with Big Brother....pissed a few of them off as you can imagine. Not least James.
What a beautiful woman she was sadly she died at my age 27 to me she's the best females singer of all time no matter what genre it is. Now in days the famous females don't respect them sells they sing half naked and that ain't cool. Now I know the way she died was a shame but she had more balls the this bitches now a day's.. love this song I bet a million guys cried over this track atleast I did and I'm not a shame to say it cuz I'm a grown man. Peace out.
Damn, was James Gurley great on lead guitar or what? This guy should have been recognized for his greatness far more than he ever was. Too bad Janis overshadowed this band with her vocals. .but this band was tight. The bass runs flat out rock. RIP James.
I think that guys were very high when recorded this video, but it doesn't matter, because it's one of the best songs of all time. Better get some weed, and l'll enjoy this video
Who is playing the guitar? This is a different guy?? He's badddddddddd as in HE'S GREAT! Played his solo 6 times by now.. Would like to see what else he's done!
"Sittin’ down by my window, Honey, lookin’ out at the rain. Oh, Lord, Lord, sittin’ down by my window, Baby, lookin’ out at the rain. Somethin’ came along, grabbed a hold of me, honey, And it felt just like a ball and chain. Honey, that’s exactly what it felt like, Honey, just dragging me down."
This presentation says so much about her... Her anguish and, at the same time, her surrender...
the pins and needles and goosebumps i get listening to this song ..... my heroin died b4 i was born but such a classic i was born out of era
Brings tears to your eyes--So full of Soul-------!!!

Heart-touching, a sensitive interpretation by THE queen of music...I lived a wonderful moment !
James Gurley never got the press he rightly deserved. All you have to do is listen once and you know the man felt every note he played. Magical.

It is wonderful! It is intoxicated by this singing voice.
