Largest Privately Owned O Scale Layout In The Country - Corner Field Model Railroad and Museum

- We visited Corner Field Model Railroad Museum and Hobby in Middlefield Ohio on our extended vacation. This is advertised as the largest privately owned O scale model railroad in the United States. Believe me, it's the largest one I've seen.
When I entered the hobby shop I asked the owner if he minded if I took some videos. He stated that I could as long as they were short. That's what I did. But I did notice that in the past many UA-camrs have posted videos of the same place. When entering the train room there was a sign asking not to take videos.

Beautiful. Just beautiful. How could anyone thumbs down this?
There are ppl that dislike almost all my videos. LOL
@@TomsTrainsandThings I guess because they want the trains for themselves. LOL. Great Experience Man. Great videos. I appreciate it.
Losers. Hahaha. Trains are the shit!!
You were absolutely right. That is a HUGE layout!
I was surprised the owner said he built it in four years with his family. It's been almost 2 years since I've been there. I'd like to go back to see the progress he made on the far end.
Imagine the hours this took to build, just incredible work cheers Robert
Not only the hours but the money!
@@TomsTrainsandThings And that too lol!
If I had the means, it would be this way. I enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing.
You and me both!
The amazing amount of trains sitting in the yard and at the turntable. Oh my goodness. So cool.
This is stunning it's awesome when you see it words just fail me.
You have to see it in person to really appreciate it.
@@TomsTrainsandThings I can only imagine it must be a sight to behold truly fabulous
Been to see this layout. It’s one of the most impressive o scale layouts that I have ever seen. Highly recommend a visit.
The video doesn't do it justice. One has to see it in person to appreciate it.
Thank you for sharing, hope to get there someday.
You'll love it
Wow it looks like a huge layout wish that I could have seen it
You'll have to get a big purse to put Sadie inside.
That's a good ideal
Thanks for sharing this video it was awesome,,,,,i cant believe its less then a hours drive from my place,,,gonna go there for sure this year with the garndkids,,,my grandson loves trains especily lionel,,,,thanks again Tom
Thanks Ken. Great place to see.
Wow, just wow..............David(UK)
This is impressive
Tom if it's "0" scale or "0" gauge it makes no difference to me another smashing video and I have to say I enjoyed the music. Frank
Thank you Frank!
Wow, that is something.
I was just there today. It’s super impressive. I loved the drive in they had that actually had the polar express movie playing on it while the Lionel legacy polar express was running. Worth the visit I’m so glad I only lived 20 min away
Great place. Hope to return someday
Big & beautiful. Wow hats off to them
Holly cow that's huge! Very cool! Thanks!!
I own a small O scale layout, but this layout is the most spectacular layout I’ve ever seen in this country, Im guessing it’s estimated value is over 1 million dollars , it must of taken countless hours of design and several people to build it 👍👍👍
The owner said it took him, his wife, and 2 children 4 years to build it.
Thanks for the visit.
My pleasure
Beyond insanity!! Way beyond!!! My my my!
A lot of time and money put into this place.
Tom, this is terrific. Literally, as far as the eyes can see. Great clips and stills to show us what the owner has allowed. Very impressive. I'd love to see it in-person but show presentation comes a close second. Thanks for thinking of us on your visit. Was this on the same trip as Steamtown or a special visit to Ohio? We passed through Ohio on our Pennsylvania visit and had no idea this layout existed. Thanks, Tom!! - Dean from Minnesota
Thank you Dean. This was the following week after spending a few days with my sister and DJsTrains in the Pittsburgh area. Right up the turnpike on the way to Cleveland. You probably went within about 30 miles from there while going through Ohio. I found out about it through their Facebook page.
Amazing! I have family and friends in Ohio so next time I head out that way I'll have to make it a point to stop and see this layout. How much is admission?
Museum Layout Admission:Adults: $8.00Seniors: $7.00Kids 4-12: $5.00Under 3: Free
Wow, that is quite a layout.
Really Big
Just awesome. Funny they wouldn’t allow video. It’s free advertising.
That's a shame. If you search the name on UA-cam, you'll see there were previous videos made here. I guess someone screwed it up for everyone else.
@@TomsTrainsandThings You are right. There are other videos. But if you wanted to do a video about us, you should of asked. No one asked. And yes it is good advertising, but again the right thing to do is ask. And in the past, we had problems with people. Please understand. And it's a family business.
@@CornerFieldHobbyRailfan I'm going to assume that I'm talking with the son since this is the son's UA-cam channel. When I arrived in the Hobby shop, May 31, 2019 I introduced myself to your dad and stated I was traveling to different train related places. Told him of a few places that I visited already. I informed him that I had a UA-cam channel and produce instructional videos and videos of the places I visit . He stated that his son also has a UA-cam channel. I did ask if I could take videos and your dad stated I could take short videos.
When I was in the train room taking short videos and photos, you came up to me and said "You can't take videos in here!" I told you that your dad said I could take short videos. You walked away. Your dad even came out and sat on the stool in the corner and talked to me for awhile about different places I could visit and talked about what he had planned for the far section.
Can't say it any better than the good folks who have commented below, but I do have several questions...it's also a hobby shop right? I assume it must carry a lot of O gauge trains...did you visit the hobby side of the business and how was the selection of trains for sale (O gauge and other scales)? Thanks. T4
They do have a hobby shop but what I saw 2 years ago, it was nt stocked very well . As far as other scales, there were a few used HO scale items there. They may have changerd in the last two years.
@@TomsTrainsandThings Thanks again for the great look at Corner Field...I appreciate you! T4
@@tinytowntrainstv I just saw your comment. And unfortunately the one that video taped our layout, is so wrong. He was upset because the owner would not permit him to video tape. The store was stocked fine. Even more now. The product in the store did not go out on the layout. My father does not do business like. I think you should get your facts straight before you post anything.
@@CornerFieldHobbyRailfan I certainly apologize for my comment being written in such a way that it could be taken out of context (edited to avoid any future mis-understanding, thanks).
It was meant as a comment to the amazing size and scope of the layout, and wishing to find a train shop with a similar selection (yes, probably a pipe dream on my part).
As to Tom's Trains and Things, I have always found Tom to be a great guy, and I know he certainly did not intend anything malicious in his response to any of my comments.
Certainly nothing was meant to reflect on anyone's business, business practices, character or otherwise (however, thanks for bringing this to my attention, so it could be corrected as you saw it).
Hope you had a Merry Christmas and have a prosperous New Year! Thanks. T4

This place is humongous!
Should Have Done It Without The Music

O gauge, not O scale; O scale is 2 rail! ;-)
I did a video on this a while back. Is it a turnout or a switch? Gauge or Scale. Many terms in life originate from what the item was called by workers that didn't know the proper name of the item. When I worked as an electrician on the railroad, SJO wire was referred to as Okie Cord. That was the manufacturers name on the spool. Burndie was actually a split bolt. Gauge is the distance between the rails, and Scale is the ratio of size! I often interchange switch with turnout, but the actual term is turnout, while switch is the point rail or blade.
I think there was an article in Model Railroad magazine many years ago about the difference between gauge and scale. The old timers call all the scales gauge!
@@TomsTrainsandThings O gauge is typically 3/16" to the foot and not 1/4" to the foot like O scale which is typically 2 rail; although companies are starting to produce "scale," 1/4" to the foot models,. I personally don't like O gauge because it's too toy like to me, especially with the third rai,l but to each his own as they say!
Only a stickler calls out that fine detail. Just enjoy the layout
