Watching people who stereotypically wouldn’t like this kind of music react so glowingly warms my cold heavy metal heart.
Same. I have to say it's also glorious when a serious metalhead goes all 'fuck yeah 🤘🤘this rules' at sleeping kittens or a string quartet
Underrated pun
Couldn't agree more, mate!
Lifetime metalhead here and there's nothing better than knowing that there are more and more people opening up to dirty vocals!
When they find out it's not just about being angry and all that.
It takes an ASTOUNDING amount of talent to do the things Will (And so many other harsh vocalists) does
@@IdiotPosterBoy hell yeah, I fuckin LOVE me some sleeping kittens AND string quartets! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
@@IdiotPosterBoy We are tough on the outside to shield all the fluffy sweetness and beauty inside from this fallen world...
The fact that you mention his vocals being not vocals, but another instrument is so refreshing to hear from a vocal coach perspective.
That's exactly what I tell people who say they aren't singing or that they can't understand what they are saying. That's essentially what that vocal style is. Another instrument in an arrangement.
Not necessarily to be understood, but to be experienced. LOVE this analysis 🤘😝
This genre has never been more strong. It’s in great hands going forward and it’s nice to see it get attention. So many great vocalists and band members.
@@derekk8523 as a listener of the genre for over a decade, I couldn't agree more.
Yes! The voice is more than just for words and melodies.
It can create textures and elicit emotions and function as an it’s own type of instrument 😊
Agreed (bona fide metalhead).
I refer to the the vocals as the devil organ, Will plays a mean devil organ
You should react to his live one-takes, the man is IN.....SANNNNNNNELY talented!
Absolutely. I always recommend his To The Hellfire one take to vocal coaches
Consider it done!
@@TheVocalyst he has one for the second track from this EP, Of the Abyss, I'd give that one a shot so you get exposure to another amazing track!
Agreed.
So smooth and seemingly effortless.
Yeah he’s insane I’ve seen him live twice and sounds fucking phenomenal
Its so damn awesome when vocal specialists are also blown away by the instrumentalists too
It's weirdly fun seeing someone with a classical background really getting metal. You seem to fly right through the abrasive harshness of it all, perhaps there is a true metalhead deep down there all along.
Will is really one of a kind.
There are many similarities. Beethoven would a metalhead if he lived today. I remember a Norwegian documentary from the late nineties about black metal and a classical composer who was interviewed said the same thing. Well, that's where I got it from really. Haha.
Mann the band is cool heavy vibe makes your head Bob n weave, makes your body hard n bounce..... music or sounds for me........boy vocally hard work hahahaha
I've always thought that about Beethoven as well.
Believe it or not but us metalheads are very versatile when it comes to music and many of us like and or appreciate classical music, that is why their is an entire sub-genre symphonic metal
@@norsepaganmetalhead I waited a long time for metal and classical to cross paths ❤ It always felt like they belonged together!
If you enjoyed this, you'll be absolutely blown away by the one takes.
It's impressive to do this in separate takes, let alone the one takes and live performances he does
Couldn't agree more with this
💯
It's really cool that you were able to immediately appreciate the musicality of their music! One thing I don't see many vocal coaches mention about Will's vocals is the *huge* amount of breath support he has to generate to create the projection and sustain he can have in his low screams/growls, which are done with the true folds held open. I'll also echo others recommending you react to some of Will's one take vocal performances. They show what he does even better than the music videos.
He’s also asthmatic.
I think what's special about Will is the breath control and how quickly he switches between the sounds he makes, I've heard most of them elsewhere as I'm kinda familiar with subgenres of extreme metal, but I've never heard someone who can swap between them all so quickly. Hell, I can make probably 60% of the noises he does and sing along in the car, the problem is as you say, the breath, on a held scream I'm running out 2-3 seconds before him
@@iohannesvincere298 especially cause he can do it live. I've heard fast switches but live they struggle to do it. Will is special in that area
One of the most epic endings to a song I’ve ever heard and I’ve listened to a lot of music in 35 years lol.
Totally agree. I've listened to a LOT of heavy music in my life and still find myself holding my breath at the end of this (after 100s of listens)
Totally agree and I'm 52
When it comes to epic endings this one is almost unbeatable
I have been listening and playing metal since I was a kid, about 20yrs now and this song is the single most unbelievably dirty, brutal vocals I have ever heard. The timing of the beat during the breakdown and other odd timings is really the cherry on top
exactly i love extremely heavy music but the deathly pig sqeals r def a new but awsome one
Several folks are recommending Will's one-take vocal playthroughs, and these are indeed amazing. They also have Will's voice right at the front of the mix, so it's easier to hear everything he's doing.
However, I would like to recommend some other Lorna Shore music. First, for sheer energy, I'd recommend Sun//Eater. Also, Lorna Shore have written a ballad: Pain Remains. It's in three parts, but the videos are clearly labelled.
Also, shout-out to Austin Archey on the drums. He is, I've been told, a living, breathing human being. But he has the rhythmic sense of a metronomic robot. The speed and precision of his double-kick work is just amazing.
Austin also has a herniated disc in his back and still laid this down.. dudes real solid 🤘
That layered growl is sometimes referred to as a "double harmonic". You layer it a little like you do with overtone singing but you are adding a guttural distortion instead of the hum that is used iin most cases. So all your diction comes from the clean layer and the distortion sort of frames the diction. That way you don't lose the lyrics in the "mud" that you hear in other metal styles. Alex Terrible is fucking amazing at the double harmonic.
To achieve that goblin scream it actually really helps if you can do an imitation of gollum, because then all you have to do is add the fry because your tongue and mouth positions are already set and a lot of the "high" sound comes from the smeagol voice.
This is fascinating! Not me imitating Gollum for the last 10 minutes... 😅
@@TheVocalyst It's actually kind of amazing what you can do vocally if you can imitate other vocal speech patterns. For example if you add a subharmonic and slightly alter the Gollum voice, you can achieve a pretty good approximation of a stereotypical robot voice.
Dickie def mastered that goblin voice 😉 I heard Wills biggest inspiration is Infant Annihilator so it makes sense he sounds pretty similar when it comes to highs and you can hear it in Into The Earth. Dickies biggest inspo is Travis from Cattle Decap which is a huge influence on deathcore which all stems down to the newest bands and yet all their voices are so unique.
@@2174863 Absolutely, much as I love Will and think he is doing amazing things, Dickie was doing it first and, not to remove any of the incredible skill Will has, but Dickie does it better, just by the sheer amount of experience he has had.
Why Lorna Shore has blown up so much is probably because we've moved beyond "metal vocals are just noise." Before Dickie you have Travis, so on and so forth but at that time you had a lot of the left over aspects of the satanic panic and metal is just noise that didn't really allow them the space to go as, comparatively, big. As prevailing opinions change about metal we see break outs. Will is the goblin prince to Dickie's goblin king. The fact that people are viewing harsh vocals in a new light, means there is nuance there and channels like this one and Charismatic Voice and Kardavox are really bringing styles of music into a lime light that it hasn't operated in before. There are "harsh vocal" metal bands that don't get any of the credit they have deserved. This is kind of a golden age of metal where audiences and media are all cross connecting and appreciation of metal has never been to the degree I find it is today.
Lorna shore is blowing up because the music is more relatable to more new listeners and wills personality. Lorna shore has always been a great band. Add a great front man and more symphonic elements you start getting the ingredients for success. Not to mention to the hellfire came out at a time when most people were at home looking for rabbit holes. I listen to deathcore a ton and find it hard to listen to infant. Find it to chaotic. Bands like worm shepherd/ Lorna ect have mastered the blackened sound and made it easy to listen to
I'm 27 and have been listening to all kinds of metal since I was about 12/13 years old and I have to say that even after all the time this song has been out, it one of the best metal songs I've experienced in my little life. God damn, it's good. Great reaction as well. Kudos to the band as well for this masterpiece. Will is a god
That ending gets everyone. Lol.
Another metal vocalist who has incredible control of her voice is Courtney Laplante of Spiritbox. If you watch her live one takes or the 17 minute video that is their live studio performance of The Mara Effect (3 seperate songs and an interlude), you’ll see she has next to no strain on her voice.
Wonderful reaction, Bethany. Will is such a creative vocalist, and wonderful human being. Thank you for commenting on the music, it is the perfect foil for Will's vocals. Lorna Shore coming together is just finally getting the right people together. They are creating magic. Definitely check out Will's one-takes, they are just incredible, and the camera is focused on him the whole time. Musically, check out the Pain Remains trilogy, it will show the full breadth of the bands musical talent. I have tickets to see Lorna in the spring, can't wait.
Iconic. Truly.
I also love how genuinely you appreciate the musically that may be far from your own choice of listening. Incredibly insightful and respectful
I love that you get so excited! I absolutely come out of my skin with excitement at everything in this song ❤
You should watch his one take play throughs, he covered Chokehold by Sleep Token recently and it's absolutely stunning, his cleans are just as amazing as his harsh vocals. He's definitely a unicorn among musicians.
From your facial expressions ..your inner metal head is trying to come out. Embrace it !!!🤘🏻😤🏴☠️
I was one of those who recommended you to react to Lorna Shore and specifically to Will Ramos, I love that you have react to this song, but, for a vocal coach, I think the one-take version was much better, but all good, you have the opportunity to react to another of the videos on Will's channel where he does those versions hehehehehe. Greetings from Santiago de Chile!
True it would be better for her to react to the one-take vocal playtrought versions 🤘🏻😃
i love that the suggestion is Distant. perfect.
Will is the best vocalist currently in this genre. He is an animal and so creative at how he uses his voice. To me this is just as beautiful as an opera singer. The level of skill and talent is as equally difficult to master. Same for the band. Each is at expert level with their instruments. It's awe inspiring.
i agree but also check out dickie allen from infant annihalator
She says, "Oh, that was hmmmmmmm ..." and listens again! I loove it ❤
Lorna Shore is my favorite deathcore band of all time. Will Ramos is a vocal unicorn. You should check out his one take performances, they are legendary. Loved your reaction. 🤘
Will was the missing piece the band needed. He took the band to an entirely new game and they’ve already beaten the game. I have listened to this ep every single day since it came out. I am still just as excited listening to it now as I was the forest time
He really blew the band up in popularity
Yessss!!! Lorna Shore are death core perfection. Immaculate musicians, full of feeling and emotion too. So happy to see this vid!!!!
You know you are a metal head when you hear words and lyrics.
When others talk about it purely as screams and sounds or noises.
The first time I heard Lorna Shore was this exact video, I found it so exhilarating. It was great to see you react in the same way, so thank you for this.
This was so cool, I love people that can appreciate all genres! I’m a blues singer, it’s all about feeling and connecting emotionally with your audience. Lorna Shore forces you to feel, simply magic!
Love your reaction, first in disbelief and then the pure enjoyment.
The best way I have been able to explain this song is that they all give each other space. There is never a moment that feels like someone is taking over. It was a really well written piece of music. Every note and drum hit and very vocal belongs right where it is. And will ramos does inhuman things with his voice. It’s an incredibly well written piece of music
Ending gave me goosebumps but the whole composition is outstanding. When you get a band work together well you can see it in the finished product. 10/10
Yay! I was so excited for you to check that out! Glad you enjoyed it.
Not so much a reaction suggestion, but I'd recommend checking out his Sleep Token cover(s) to hear his actual singing. Also his Cursed to Die one-take gives a good view of the mechanics behind his goblin noises. Cheers!
Thanks Rick!
best voice ever hands down
Loved this vid!! I’m off to download festival in a few weeks and these are playing!! I am so bloody excited and this has ramped me up even more 😊 love to see someone who wouldn’t normally be listening to this kinda stuff but loving it!! I think he’s the most impressive vocalist I have heard in years!!
He was the perfect vocalist for the band. Just 🤌🤌
Thank you for doing this. It was a great reaction. I am loving how open minded and accepting you are of metal and teaching us at the same time. Lorna Shore is brilliant. The symphonic element and arrangements are what drew me to the band. Like others have said, please check out the Pain Remains trilogy. I am a metalhead in my50s and this is one of the best things I have heard in years. Subscribed!
Love your reaction and commentary came here via The Charismatic Voice!!!
Your take around rhe 3:30 mark is really interesting to me.
When I listen to this song, it brings the same emotional feeling to me, that the first movement of moonlight sonata gives (me at least).
A desolate field littered with corpses from a war being waged. Kind of like if the battle of helms deep was illuminated by only the moon, on a clear dark night.
I'll reiterate what people are saying. You need to check out Will's one takes. The album tracks have a lot of layered screams of mixed highs and lows, and having his vocals basically isolated is REALLY amazing to watch
thx for your reaction really enjoyed it:)
this whole band is insanely talented. Will’s vocals and Austin’s drums are phenomenal, and then you have Adam and Andrew (lead and rhythm guitars) who are rapidly becoming two of my favorite music composers putting together such beautiful melodies (Michael, the bass player, had not yet joined the band at this point). this is the band that finally lured my normal metalhead self into deathcore.
Will is amazing. I'm not into death core, but I admire the talent.
Please check out some of his one take vocal performances plus his vocal cover of Hypnosis by Sleep Token.
This is one of the most calming and settling songs I have heard in a long time.... Helps reset.
Thank you for showing it the respect it deserves, rather than display horror like your counterparts do.
This video was my first exposure to Lorna Shore, and Will Ramos, a while back. It showed me that there is something called Deathcore, and that I would learn to enjoy it, after the initial shock. (I have my ticket to go see Slaughter to Prevail in 2 months)
At some point, you should look at their Pain Remains trilogy of songs. Perhaps not all 3 at once, and bring tissues for any of the songs, as they make everyone cry. They are so emotional.
I got into this genre of metal with Cradle of Filth in 1997. I loathed the vocalist Dani Filth at first, but I loved the music so much I continued listening. Over time (and not much time) his voice sounded more like another instrument which added elements the others could not, and that's when I just became a huge fan.
To this day, their song "Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids" is still one of my favorites, and their latest remix of it is even better. One of the best guitar riffs ever and one thing that I love about Cradle specifically is (I don't know how to put this) but their music, albeit black metal is also like a lullaby in that you can thrash around and headbang if you like or... you can calmly sway back and forth to it just as easily.
I find it relaxing and I haven't found that with any other black metal artists.
Oh, try Caladan Brood, songs like for instance Walking the ashes of dead Empires, or Wild Autumn Wind, or Book of the Fallen. Calm, melancholic, but also inspiring, beautiful and somehow empowering.
“..orb of sound” ❤
At the part where you said it sounded like two voices, it was. He layered two recordings of a high technique and a low technique to create what I would call a timbral harmony. It's a very common trick in deathcore.
It just fills out the vocals SO MUCH.
Please, more reactions to the queen of goosebumps, Diana Ankudinova, here you will be truly stunned, no, defeated. The song "River" Rechenka), performed by Diana at the age of 14 on the You Super project, is an unsurpassed work of the master.Recently, Diana performed this most difficult song without music - acapela.

I must have seen this video a hundred times. I love the engagement that different genres get here. I hear a lot of beautiful music this way.
There’s no going back after this one. One of us.
1k like. Ur welcome. Love ur enthusiasm in this reaction. This kind of music is Master Class Musicianship. Keep up the good work. ✌️
Plus one go see the one take it's amazing and you see how it's "easy" for him ...and the rest of the band is sick !
Your reaction is amazing. If you want to be blown away, try Lorna Shore Pain Remains 1 2 and 3. Masterpiece
really enjoy your analysis keep up the great work and hope you continue the metal rabbit hole
I love watching vocalists and vocal coaches come in with an open mind to listen to Will and the sounds he makes. I realize metal isn't for everyone and the excitement that you all show is amazing. Great video.
Oh, he sounds this good live as well. Watching Will do this in person is an experience.
His voice gives me goosebumps every time. The music is not my thing (it works me up too much) but hearing his voice... Dang every time I am flabbergasted
Not sure if people have said but there is a video where a throat and voice analysist but a camera down his throat while he was doing these screams. Is like an hour long video but it starts at around 24 minutes into the video and is really interesting.
The One Take versions Will has put out on his channel have the vocals more dominant than the instruments which from a vocal analysis might be more useful also they have better lighting and camera angle so it is easier to see Will's body posture and throat/face positions. Plus he has one where he sings clean covering Sleep Token.
His cleans shocked me. He’s no vessel, but wow.
Ommgg u r amazing Lshore is one of my favorite bands thanks
You need to react to "Demolisher" by Slaughter to Prevail! Alex Terrible has some absolutely insane and very unique vocals.
Pretty amazing isn't it?😍That voice just leaves you awestruck! Will Ramos is an INCREDIBLE vocalist!
I love this song. It's always fun to see the people's reactions to this song.
I love your reaction🤘😎 🎶
The subtitles to this make me so happy that his vocals sound like applause 🤣
Did you see the physical change wash over her as she emoted, yes my precious!
Its funny, I've heard growls and screams in tunes for years, I think the earliest memory of such would be King Diamond, but it took Will doing 'softer' music for me to really fall in and give it a proper listen ... and I can't say it's something I'd listen to on a daily basis but I find that I'm much more inclined to enjoy it.
reading the lyrics along with will is mind blowing and completely changes the songs.
you should do the album opener, Welcome Back O Sleeping Dreamer, you know about notes right? would love to know how big his vocal drop is from the solo into that breakdown after, that is absolute insanity.... possibly the biggest vocal drop in music history.
Wow. Can't believe you're doing this song. Love it.
Lorna Shore! YESSS!
yes, you are hearing two or three layers of vocals at times! That's pretty common practice, to record a few different sounds on the same lyrics, and then layer them to create a deeper/more complex sound overall (or just to sound "demonic" lol). I'm sure it's already been suggested, but he has a single-take video of this song, without any layering or editing. Definitely worth checking out. (and he has a couple covers of Sleep Token songs that will blow you away. He can SING too!)
I always get the sense to give Will a hug at the end of that song. Such a beautifully composed song. 😈
The musicians in Lorna Shore have achieved the kind of precision and tightness that elevate a group above its contemporaries. Add to that their strong sense of melody and Will Ramos's stunning range of growls, screams, bleats, and squeals, and you have possibly the premiere deathcore ensemble working today. I loved your commentary, Beth! Keep up the variety on the channel...without forgetting about Angelina Jordan, of course. :) Another band that weaves strong melodies into their aggressive sound is Arch Enemy. Let me link you their live Tokyo performance of their song Nemesis, with former vocalist Angela Gossow: ua-cam.com/video/fS-YHJbmAXs/v-deo.html
I wish I could go back to the first time I heard this song. I almost wrecked my car. My favorite metal song of all time.
I, like a lot of people, came here expecting to watch a vocal professional be horrified. Instead, I got to experience a song I love through the new eyes of an open-minded, knowledgeable lover of music (in all its forms, apparently!) Thank you for being more than a just a meme on this one - loved your good humor and depth - I think we all learned something.
i get chills everytime i hear this song. check out Ne Obliviscaris - and plague flowers the kaleidoscope.
Definitely watch the "Pain Remains" trilogy - the band has evolved SO much, and the story/cinematics/music will bring you to tears! I have NEVER had a deathcore song leave me the way that trilogy does, and Will Ramos is a huge part of that! Do yourself a favor, and buckle up for an emotional ride!
Listen to the pain remains trilogy. Tears for sure.
As I've seen in the comments and I'm agreeing but since you seem to enjoy this the one takes are phenomenal!!!! This is my first time watching your content and I'm subscribed lol
Got a sub from me for even approaching this.
Great open minded objective perspective.
You should definitely check out his cover of Hypnosis. His clean vocals are equally impressive!
She’s a metalhead !!! Welcome brother “forearm handshake”
If you're enjoying Will you need to check out Cattle Decapitation. Travis is the originator of this type of extreme vocal and Will is building on his work.

Welcome to death metal! Glad to have ya! We're just a bunch of silly geese that get our anger and sadness out through music. :)
These vocals are awesome. I sing them too in my free time. I always have a blast
I definetly recommend his One Take Performances, for example the Cursed to Die Onetake.
The voice there is obviously much more in the focus.
If I’m ever having a rough day I find a new person reacting to this song for the first time
Thanks for giving it a shot! We love when normal people actually subject themselves to it openly. Makes me happy.
Seeing Lorna Shore in August 🤘
His high screams he calls goblin screams the tea kettle scream you’d have to listen to 10,000 by the band beyond deviation which you should definitely check out
you seem soo nice, i really like your vibe🥰
I would’ve listened to his one take vocals. You can hear his voice so much better. It doesn’t get drowned out by the layering.
You can also see his insane talent and ability to switch between registers so cleanly.
Will Ramos and Lorna Shore have just raised the bar!!!
Absolutely amazing and haunting the lyrics and music 🎼 wow I have just got to see them live someday before my darkened life gets swallowed by the womb of death ☠️!!!
Azreal please save me from this mortal shell 🐚 just long enough for me to get a ticket 🎫 to their show 👍
Please please please do more metal. I love that you are doing this!
i think we have a lover of the breakdown. excellent ability to see this for what it is.
this kind of music is my medicine
Good job! first mission accomplished! Now react to Lorna Shore: pain remains dancing like flames, and then the trilogy
I can't believe I just watched the birth of a metalhead in real-time
Nice !! You went for the technical aspects first (Elizabeth's video... it humanizes this wonderful artist... Will seems to be a real kick to be around).
There so many variations Will can put forward... I think we only barely touched the surface (wipes off the mucous) on what Will can do in that laryngo-scope video. I believe Will has a live vocal-play/one-take video on this song as well, although he definitely crops the lighting JUST RIGHT so there remains a little mystery as to some placements... at least, that's the feeling I get (and of course, I want to see a combined laryngo/real-time CT-fluoroscopy so we can pick out all the tongue and softpalate placements he does.
Anyway.
Will (and the rest of the band) are a real litmus test for trained vocal coaches... I'm sure you'll do great!!
(posted just 15 minutes after you posted this... and so far we haven't made it more than 4 minutes into the piece... I love it.
"So high"... yeah... how does one get that much 'tension' in false chords and floppy pharyngeal bits? Love this stuff. Continue with the nerd-fest, plz!!
Wills highs are very good and proficient, but my favourite vocalist for highs is either Dickie or Greg from Shrine of Malice. If you haven’t heard it yet, you should listen to “The Awakening” by SoM. His whistletone screams are insane only person I’ve heard of that can do it as good is Gui from Beyond Deviation.
His clean vocals are surprisingly awesome. Multi-talented artist for sure
I saw them live and I've gotta say, if you ever get the chance I highly recommend it. The experience is unreal
