I'm a beginning drummer whos just playing on a practice pad in my apartment right now, so I'm looking into electronic kits. These were both on my list of ones to investigate. Thanks for the great descriptions and demos, they're very helpful!
You’re welcome
After many hours of review, and considering price point, I was dead set on the Alesis kit... that is until the Simmons 50 dropped. Glad I didn't bite on the Alesis. That Titan 50 is all that and a bag-a chips. Thank you, sir, for the informative tutorial. Rock on!
You’re welcome. I think you’ll like it more… I specially assembly.
I already knew which one I wanted more, but this made the decision so much simpler. Thank you!
You’re welcome
@@KeithronPowell just picked mine up an hour ago im almost done finishing the setup. i cant wait to play the titan. i play guitar and piano but ive always wanted to do drums.
@@imoffendedthatyouareoffended awesome!
I love how passionate you are about this whole review 😂 thank you I am getting the simmons!
😂 thanks
Was already leaning towards the Summer but needed some reassurance. Ordered.
Thanks man, great video
Awesome
Thanks you so much! I was in the market for an electric set and this was a real help in knowing-before-I-buy.
You’re welcome
Helped a family friend’s son get the Titan 50. This video was so helpful in every way. Can’t believe how good the sound is for the price. Really blown away by the quality. Thanks for the help. 👍
Awesome and congrats
I just got the Alesis kit and I'm pretty happy with it, but I kind of wish I'd seen this video before purchasing it. I really liked the way you were just able to unfold the rack of the simmons.
My Alesis set looks like it's leaning, and I thought I was just crazy, or that I put it together wrong (I'm a complete beginner.) I feel a little better after hearing you had the same experience. Like you said, it actually feels pretty solid while playing.
Exactly!!! They use an Allen wrench 🤷🏽♂️ why? And it just leans. I thought the store models were poorly put together but that lean is annoying. The Titan sits perfectly. Good luck in ya drumming and thanks for watching!
@@KeithronPowell Thanks! I actually wound up unfolding the rack a lot wider after looking at your kit in the video and comparing it to mine. I had the rack and drums really scrunched up because it seemed like the whole thing "leaned" less that way. I saw that you had your stuff spaced out a lot more, and that is way more comfortable.
Great video Kiethron, loved the rating system!
Thanks. Don’t forget that 👍🏽 button

Someone get this man more subs ! I love the honesty and how you're expressive with how you feel regarding the subject it was genuine not over the top.
Thanks!!!! I agree! More subs…
I was about to buy the Alesis for my son. In fact, I was watching videos comparing the Nitro and Surge - and leaning toward the Surge for the larger snare and more solid frame - both of which are features of the Simmons 50! This video convinces me that I should probably (definitely) go with the Simmons kit. So, thanks for the information.
It’s an awesome drum
You have awesome content sir!!!
Thanks
Great video, thanks!
Thanks
was gonna get the alesis then found out about the titan 50 and this vid pretty much solidified my decision to get the simmons
I think you’ll love them
Aloha e Keithron-I love you’re energy and passion. I am blown away by how smoothly you play and your cool, calm control. Mahalo for this video-As of today, 9/4/23, I thought I’d decided on the Alesis Nitro because it’s down to $299 on Amazon (as well as Guitar Center, who’s also offering an expansion kit free with purchase but shipping to Hawai’i is kah-ray-zee). I’m gonna hold off for a Titan 50 and hope they go on sale to offset shipping. Mahalo too for the inspiration and Happy Hawaiian Hugz!🧡 🌋 💛 🤙🏽 ❤️ 🌺 💜
Thanks and congrats on the decision.
💯Great video Sir! 👏🏻
Thanks for watching
Good review. Thanks think I’m getting titan

@@KeithronPowell out of my price range
I'm looking for a replacement for my Alesis DM7 kit. I've narrowed it down to these two kits. Alesis now has the Nitro Max instead of the Nitro Mesh. After watching your other reviews I think the Simmons sounds better with a better rack design. Another great video!
I really like the simmons products. Pound for pound they just seem to really out shine a lot. Thanks for watching. Consider using my links to order your drums to support the channel.
Great comparison video! I had an Alesis Command X that I thoroughly enjoyed for quick jam sessions with friends, but it finally bit the dust after 2 years. Had the extended warranty through Asurion (Guitar Center) and had the absolute WORST experience. They shipped me back a dead module and after 2 months decided to just do a payoff. Horrible company for warranties, but better to have something than nothing. You’ve helped me make my decision for a replacement budget set (Simmons!) and keep rockin’ my friend 🤘
Rock on!
I Loved this video man! Ive been debating which one should i go for, alesis nitro mesh or simmons titan 50 And you helped me choose the simmon titan 50. But I have one question. Does the simmons titan 50 allow side stick snares?
Nope
oh, but thanks man
Hi there! Are you able to comment on the rim height on the Simmons vs. the Nitro? I am a beginner- ish drummer and the rims on the Alesis are really an issue for me. Thanks!
Tilt them..🤷🏽♂️? It’s all part of learning. You have to learn what drum position is best for you.
I think this is good and if anything should finally push alesis in the sub $500 category. They have dominated that range for a while now but the titan finally makes the nitro seem dated.
👍🏽 yep
I am a guitarist and I liked jamming on the Simmons. Played both but the Titan was more silent with the headphones on. I mean the sound of me hitting the drums alone was more quiet which is a plus since I live in an apartment. I love this comparison video and I would love to see you make more.
Thanks… I have more coming. My wife and I got sick so I had to take a break but… they’re on the way
@@KeithronPowell Cool. I hope you feel better soon!
Hi Keithron,
Wondering what would be better. The Alesis Surge SE Mesh or the Simmons Titan 50? I am from Canada and can get the Surge SE for about the same price as the Titan 50 because the Titan would need to be imported.
I’m gonna go T50. Newer tech. Newer sounds. Updated set up. Way more features and abilities.
Does the simmons set up full size? (Except for the short height)? I have an old sd500 and like that i can arrange it like my full size acoustic kit?
Not sure I understand your question.
While i do wish i had saved up for the Simmons, i was able to get the Alesis Nitro Mesh in 5 monthly payments of $75, and with the fact that i'm on disability payments, i just had to go with the kit i could get immediately and pay off in monthly payments. (strange thing is, a few days after i bought the Alesis nitro mesh kit, it became unavailable for monthly payments, so i got extremely lucky.)
Wow! That’s awesome. The nitro is a good kit so it’s hood you were able to snag one!
111 / 5.000
I'm thinking about picking up a drums between Alesis Nitro Mesh Kit or Roland TD-4 which tells me which on
🤔 between those two……? The SIMMONS Titan 50
much love frm one of your ☆ DBLKIK ☆ KILLAS ☆......
Thanks
The bigger snare is a game changer.
Agreed
I've looked at other reviews and the Simmons Drum Module seems to be much better and user-friendly than the Alesis Drum Module.
It is
@@KeithronPowell Thanks! I'm now watching your other review -- ua-cam.com/video/9dpGSzS5MSk/v-deo.html
I just purchased the Titan 50 set. Never played electronic drums never mind mesh heads. Love the set great sound. My only complaint is the high hat. It has very slow response. Don’t know if there is a fix for that.
Check the directions for sensitivity. Also check the app too. You can change and edit in there as well.
@@KeithronPowell thanks for the advice. I played around and got the hi hat to a much better sound and response. Now this might be an odd question but has anyone tried connecting a Y cord two connect another crash cymbal? Would it work?
@@user-nc9lg4ms2p from the hi hat? You can split it but you’ll limit what the hihat is doing. If I were you’d I’d split a tom and do the same thing.
@@KeithronPowell ya no I’m not thinking of splitting the hi hat. I was wondering if you could spit the expanded crash cymbal to add another crash cymbal.
@@user-nc9lg4ms2p oh ok. On the Titan 70 video I explained that you could add more toms up to 12… that by splitting everything. So, yes you can do exactly rhat
The leaning on the Alesis makes me crazy!
Right!!!! 😂😂😂
Would you still put the titan over the surge mesh? I looked into it and most of the categories that the titan dominates are the same as the surge. I’m leaning towards buying the surge cause I like it’s looks slightly better, however I’m not entirely sure.
Yes… everyday of the week. The Titan offers things the Surge doesn’t have.
@@KeithronPowell thanks. Would you say it is the best budget electronic drum set for around the 400$ range?
@@Minecol5 yes
You forgot that the Titan module can be used as a usb audio interface.
Oops… one more point for Simmons. Oddly, that’s a point I was speaking with you about all day and left it off my list. 😂
The Alesis rack is ridiculous. WTF were they thinking. I'm upgrading to either the Simmons Titan 70 or the SD1250, but I can't decide. The rack on the 1250 looks much better, but I'm worried about the reviews I've read about problems with the snare
2 years no issues
@@KeithronPowell went with the Titan 70 after watching your comparison video ;)
Are the rims like almost 1/2 the height on the Simons cp. to the Alesis? I’d have to mail order site unseen. As a beginner it seems like an accidental unwanted rim shot on the 8” Alesis would be easy to do. Anybody?
It took me an entire day to understand that abbreviation. 😂😂😂 The rim is low and probably equal to the Alesis. The toms are single zone so it’s not an issue of hearing a different sound. They’re plenty adjustable so angling them will cut down in unwanted mis-strikes
cp=“Compare” Sorry about that! I agree in this modern world of so many Acronyms that I hate. Thanks so much for your reply!
Both are fire 🔥
Yeah… but on is a lot hotter
@@KeithronPowell 👀👀
Can i use a 2 zone ride on the titan? thanks...
It’s single zone so… it won’t work as dual
But what about the titan 50 vs the NEW Nitro MAX its the mesh with the larger kick pad the larger snare AND the BFD tones and 3 months free Drumeo AND its app works with ANDROID ...no ANDROID app for Titan.....so??????? Tone wise from the factory ....who wins?????? Looking to buy an e kit asap so I REALLY need to know ....
I’m gonna do the Titan 50 vs Nitro Max first!
WHEN we gonna see bro ...I am looking at a sale on the Simmons right now the extended set with extra lad and cymbal is 479 at GC !!! So I NEED to know like yesterday man .....I KNOW you won't keep a music making brethren go without !!!!!....lol!!!
Can I get the Titan 50 in the UK ?
That I don’t know.
Blue tooth is cool, but with Simmons, it only will work with Apple products like iPhone, and they do not see the need to ever come out with an app or bluetooth for Android phones as they have exclusive rights with Apple. All the higher-end Alesis have bluetooth. All the Alesis apps you can get on iPhone or Android phones. The high-end Alesis has a hi-hat on a stand. Simmons told me they do not have plans to ever come out with a hi-hat on a stand, and they do not see the point as it is an electric kit, and if you want an accustic kit get one. I have an older Simmons kit now and I Loved it. I say Loved it because 2 of my tom pads no longer work and my ride cymbal is crapping out. I talked with Simmons on how I could fix them but since it is an older discontinued set they could only sell me new toms and cymbal pads from another Simmons kit that they claimed would probably work but they were not positive. Also if I get new pads and cymbals it would cost me more than my kit is worth. So now I am in the market for a new kit. I thought about the Simmons Sd1250 but since I have an android phone I could never use the app or bluetooth. Also, the hi-hat could never be upgraded to one on a stand since Simmons does not see the point of coming out with one, and Simmons products are not compatible with anything else. So now I am thinking I should just spend the money and get the Alesis Strike Pro Se as it has everything a consumer drummer wants in an electric drum set and Simmons seems to do what they want and come out with kits that only appeal to a small group and not the main consumers of e-kits.
That was a lot… so here’s the thing the Bluetooth midi on the Titan 50 works on any phone or computer. I’ve literally recorded a song using Bluetooth midi on the SD600. I even did a video and mentioned that. The app is what doesn’t work on android. Next, you mentioned the HIGH END Alesis…. Has this or that. The SIMMONS drum line is not high end. It is a budget friendly product so the hi hat reflects that price point. I’ve mentioned this fact in other videos. Now with that being said….I’ve spoke with the guy that designed the drums… I know they’re looking at some things concerning the hi hat. One of these days I will be interviewing him on the channel and I’ll cover this very item. Additionally, you mentioned buying the Strike Pro… that’s a drum that should never be compared to any Simmons it’s $2500. It should be better in all sorts of ways. If you’re looking for those features and that’s your budget then you shouldn’t be considering the Simmons. Additionally, comparing them and judging the simmons negatively…. 🤨
Actually if you look online it's 400 for the 8 piece, and just over 450 for the 10 piece, and the simmons 8 piece is bout 450 and the 10 piece is just over 500. Making the simmons more expensive for the same amount of hardware, making the module worth way more than the features are actually worth, I don't own either I'm currently trying to decide.
I’m not sure where you’re looking but these drums are the exact same price at $449 and the expansion kits at actually $0.03 apart with the Alesis (red) being $79.97 and Titan 50 at $79.99. The black version for nitro mesh is $119.99 at Guitar Center. Now, before Christmas you could pick the both up with the expansion for under $500…. The Nitro is nice but the Titan is better. I wish you’d gotten either one on sale.
$350 shipped for the Limited Edition Alesis Nitro 8 piece now.
just get the alesis surge speacial edition that kit is truly the best
🤔 nah… tech old… no app… no Bluetooth audio and midi
👍
👍🏽did you pick one?
@KeithronPowell Yes I did. I went with the NUX kit.
cant you just setup the hi hat to be a second kick ???
I had that thought the other day when asked about it… you can but….. you’d lose the hi hat. The easy way is to just buy a double bass drum pedal! 🤷🏽♂️
Can barely hear the hi hat on my new Titan 50. Anybody else dealing with that?
You can turn it up in the module or on the app. If that doesn’t work try the firmware update
Simmons is better, get ios phone i did plan on getting the titan
Get it!
"exact same same weight, I mean exact same price" - "I think that was something that I think that...". Unbelievable.
🤔 wha?
Alisis bass drum is just not good. Titan wins on this alone.
Really? I actually like their rubber bass drum.
@@KeithronPowell??? the alesis drum head isn't rubber - it's a mesh. And it's very well documented that it has some issues.
No way
In hell! No point for the app
It's only apple. They're never going to release man android and I
Cannot purchase Simmons because of that and I hate apple
You’ve missed my more recent videos… I’m literally taking names for people that wanna beta test the new Android app… would you like to be part? Email me at kdpmusic313@gmail.com
Kinda irrelevant as they are not available in the UK.
🤨
No!
Double bass is lame and nobody does that.
Double bass is death metal only and death metal has no business with electronic drums
Nice opinion… but I’ve heard people say different. Not to mention, all forms of music utilize electric drums and double bass.
dude has NO clue what he's talking about, Lol......double kick is in Tons of normal rock songs and other genres, not just metal, period.
simmons = Medeli.... Alesis better mate sorry.
You got that backwards buddy, Medeli makes the Nitro, Simmons are making their own drums these days. And not that that even matters though. Medeli has been making e-drums for decades, and have been making some very decent ones.
Yep, I’m pretty sure that’s not correct but they’re all made overseas so… the funny thing is the Titan toms look like the Alesis toms with minor changes. And even if they were as you say… it can’t be denied that SIMMONS has introduced some features to market that no one has. Now it’s time to see what the others do. My rating system was fair.
@@KeithronPowell Cant beat roland, the best simple.
@@KeithronPowell Yeah, they are all made in China... Even Roland, haha. But Even if Medeli is the manufacturer, the Simmons kits are unique, not re-skinned Medeili Kits, where as the Nitro is. The Nitro is the Medeli DD512 to be exact.
I’ve never heard of the Medeili. But they’re all made over there like you said.
Thanks dude!! I might pick up the Titan tomorrow....been a guitarist for 20 years, always had the urge to play drums, I think it's time....I Know I can do this, something is calling me. I think I'm gonna be tempted to get acoustic drums, because I like it loud, but electric is easier to fit in my garage.
👍🏽 love to get a pic once you get it
