- Hey guys, in this video I play an Epiphone inspired by Gibson Les Paul's Standard Gold Top. I really think this is a step up from the previous Epiphone guitars, the look and feel etc. Let me know what you guys think. I almost sold my pelham blue Epiphone Les Paul to get this one.

Fantastic playing, as always, Rich. Thank you! Beautiful Epi.
Sounds great, iv got the same Pelham blue standard, casino coupe and g400 pro Sg. Love epiphone and it’s so refreshing to see great guitarist like yourself promoting epiphone. Great work keep it up mate👍🎸
now i understand why the epiphone les paul 50s was hyped
You played superbly and got every bit of tone out of that. Fantastic. I really don’t understand how any one could propose upgrading pickups on this. Whatever you did (in addition to your great playing) absolutely nailed it.
Opening jam was epic! I need more music like this.
That was AWESOME! thanks for a great review you convinced me to buy one.
You are a man in love, Rich :) It sure sounds and looks good and if it plays/feels equally good, it's no-brainer. After all, it's gold top :)
Your playing always makes me smile 🙂 Rich! I have just ordered one in vintage cherry sunburst. Nice one mate.
That is one beautiful Goldtop! I have the regular Epiphone Goldtop Standard and the Goldtop (smoked almond) Muse. The muse is incredible because it's a thinner body, and has a belly cut. Just excellent guitars from Epiphone these days!
I keep coming back here just to listen to that intro jam, just rocks. Totally want to get this guitar now, the gold top looks awesome!
Yeah, such a great guitar. Thanks!
The whole Inspired by Gibson lineup is exceptional it seems. I raid the couch cushions daily saving up! Awesome job playing there sir! Thanks and be well!
Thanks Steven!
EXCELLENT DEMO........
I bought one also ........
Bonded with it right away.......
Epiphone overall quality has improved 700% in the last few years .......IMHO......
Cheers ....! 👍
Very nice playing, I liked a lot your demo, not boring at all. Thank you! =)
Amazing playing. Ty now i got some serious craving for that guitar.
very nice. Might need one of those to play Still Got The Blues by Gary Moore. good tones.
My God you can play!!! That intro was absolutely smoking and I would definitely buy that if it is a song! I have a good opportunity to buy this Gold top Epiphone and I think you might have just convinced me!!!
Thanks, I hope you're able to buy it.
I like that you played with a Slash vibe ,it’s a beautiful guitar and this playing shows it off well enough to give an idea of what it’s capable of
Which would you choose? Epiphone les paul 50s standard gold or vintage v100 afd slash? I want to play guns n’ roses songs.
Got mine coming in tmmrw,,great playing that sounded like a hit right there,,cheers
Sounds great. Epiphone stepped up.
That thing really sounds good!
perfect solo !!!!!! Congrats from Brazil !!!!!
Just ordered mine as a beginner guitar 🤟🏻
Great , Rocking tones my man. !!!!
I love mine. Great playing btw
Bought this as my 1st les paul. Man I was not disappointed. I bought a 60s standard in ebony and both are fantastic guitars. The goldtop is absolutely my favorite that I own by far. It sounds incredible and crazy thing is it came out of the box completely setup and it was in tune. Blew my mind. Great video! Cheers!
Which would you choose? Epiphone les paul 50s standard gold or vintage v100 afd slash? I want to play guns n’ roses songs.
@@gxs8p578 Get an epiphone 1959 standard joe bonamassa Lazarus, replace the pickups for some Slash pickups, remove the pickguard and boom! A Slash les Paul just as good than a Gibson for les than 1000 dollars.
Great Guitar Rich, I especially enjoyed your looping starting at 8minutes ish that was some tasty playing!
Thanks bob!
WOW SOME OF THE BEST TONES FROM A LP I HAVE A 50’s LP STD but doesn’t compare to your tones 👍🔥🎸🦅
Sound's great man!
Awesome video man
Rich, you are one of the best guitarist out there. Solid playing.
You are up there with the big names. I bought one of the 50's gold ones today. Purchased the Epi 50's vintage sunburst yesterday. I have Gibson Les Pauls, these play and sound pretty damn close. Wish they had a nitro option but what the hell. Thanks again for your great playing and the demo of these as I was curious about them. Bobby.
Thanks man. They're good guitars!
Which would you choose? Epiphone les paul 50s standard gold or vintage v100 afd slash? I want to play guns n’ roses songs.
Most videos
Tele review= must play country twang
50's Strat review = must play Buddy Holly licks
This guys 50's Gold top review= shreds epic licks
Well played sir, well played.
Wow! I'm from Italy, Europe, and I just bought one of those! It totally rocks! You are a very good player, and the video is great! Thanks for uploading! You also look like a funny guy! (Funny how???) XD
Beautiful guitar 🎸 brother.
Awesome playing .. I hereby crown thee ‘Rich “rift-o-matic” Bischoff
Haha, thanks!
Been watching your Epiphone reviews. Thanks for the info. If I had the money and talent, I would purchase Gibson’s. Since I am not a tremendous talent, and can not justify the cash. I play mostly epiphone guitars. I just picked up the new Firebird and love it. Keep up the good work
Thanks Rob, I've been meaning to review that firebird.
Great demo
Sick playing!
Thanks Tom!
I love mine! Can’t put it down. Orange 20RT, Boss Katana MK II or Fender ‘59 Bassman Reissue it sounds great!
That Epi gold top is awesome.
Rich, one thing I forgot on the pickup tones I have done is to set up the height of the pickup for "clarity" level and volume, then when pleased, adjust the pole screws for tone. I mentioned this because many sound comparisons/shootouts I have seen do not include adjusting the "lessor" pickups to see how close You might get to the more expensive versions or the tones You might want!! Have a Good One!! Cheers!!!
man, I can't decide between all the new models, that goldtop is beautiful. But I´m also waiting on the official release of the 59 outfit. Seems like the highest-end epiphone ever.
did you make up your mind? i'm with you... i prefer the gold top... but obviously the better hardware in the 59 is nice! IDK! the pickups in the basic 50's gold top sound really good for epiphone!
Which would you choose? Epiphone les paul 50s standard gold or vintage v100 afd slash? I want to play guns n’ roses songs.
This is going to be my first electric guitar! I have been playing classic and acoustic guitar for 2 years. I have already ordered it! I can't wait to play it!
You'll love it.
@@RichBischoff thanks! This video helped me to understand things more things about this guitar! Here is a sub!
That really sings!
I have the flame top version, love it ! Great playing , tone as usual ! Also have the sg worn p90 , you should try one out. Good set up and it will surprise you how close it is to its big classic brother !
Cool I want to try one of the sgs out.
Rich, I know I am a year behind on this, but, I do believe You could take a tree limb, string it with chicken wire and play it like J.Satriana!!!! Lol!!! Seriously, sounds like You are bonding with this Gold Top, and for Good Reason!!! I recently got one, and it is an excellent instrument!!! If a player doesn't agree with the tone, simply adjust the pickup pole screws to liking, or replace pickups, or install better caps or both!!! It really is a fun guitar, and has a very cheery appearance which really encourages me to play it!!! Strings can also make a world of difference in tone!!! I have really enjoyed Your videos, and commend Your extreme gift as a Musician!!! Cheers!!!!
After weeks of debate between this 50s, the Modern, and the Custom Pro - went with the 50s, primarily for neck spec. I had a 2019 50s Gibson Gold Top standard earlier, which I regrettably had to sell due to job loss. It was spectacular; I was hoping the Epi 50s would share enough similarities to the Gibby that I wouldn't miss it so much. Both guitars equal weight at 9.1lbs. Was concerned that the chunky neck profile would be TOO different on the Epi - only difference is Epi, while still chunky, is not the chunky "C" of the Gibson - has a *VERY subtle* "D" ending at the very center - almost identical to the 2019 Traditional. Second concern was tonality. I judge my guitars on how they sound acoustically, and this Epi sounds almost entirely similar to the Gibson, possessing those droopy, almost "crying" sweet spot notes at the G string fret 9, and D string fret 12 - after hearing those duplications (which you would likely NOT hear on a chambered guitar like the new Modern, and DEFINITELY don't hear on my Frampton) - I am both SOLD on this Epi, AND pleasantly relieved. Many thanks to Rich, as I probably saw this video at least a dozen times during my "research".
Which would you choose? Epiphone les paul 50s standard gold or vintage v100 afd slash? I want to play guns n’ roses songs.
You absolutely can not go wrong with ANY of the “Inspired by Gibson” series Epiphone Les Pauls, whether it be a 50s, 60’s, or Custom - that line is truly “ next level” - I own one of each.
I’m sold. I want a. 50s gold top standard thanks man!
Bro you're soo good wtf
love the demo! Only minor gripe is the EQ on your voice has some super high freq / presence that hurts my ears.. no idea if others hear it.
Yeah.. Umm. I'm gonna be "borrowing" some of those licks right there buddy. Well done.
Haha, thanks!
Mine golden beauty is on pre order in lefty cant wait to meet up whit her❤
did you get it man?
I have the 50s and the custom in ebony both sound great but the 50s has truly something special...
The neck. At least for me is what's special.
@@RichBischoff awesome playing !
Which would you choose? Epiphone les paul 50s standard gold or vintage v100 afd slash? I want to play guns n’ roses songs.
I started playing back in July and I'm about to buy my first electric. I can't decide which of these inspired by ones to purchase!
Get the gold top
Thanks!
Thank you.
Wow, on that neck pickup sounds like Blind Owl Wilson. I havent heard many Gibsons sound like that. What pedal are you using or is it amp simulation / patch? Great reviews and watched your band starting up again good to watch. The first gig we have so far now is September :o(
Very sweet been lookin' at one the past week ... may bite the bullet
I will buy this epi 50s🤘
Its a good one!
@@RichBischoff yeah, I'm really like that epi 50s gold top, it's look awesome.
I have a left handed 50s epiphone guitar it's great cherry sunburst
Have you tried 59 Epiphone LP? I just got the 50’s Epi goldtop and love it!
Hey there, awesome video, great guitar for sure, out of interest what made you prefer the goldtop over the custom one? The neck? Cheers and keep it up man
Yes, Neck, and it played like a dream.
I actually liked that jam, unlike so many others.
So many of my other jams?
@@RichBischoff Sorry, I meant compared to other players who just noodle the pentatonic scale as I used to. So boring!
🤣
🤣
Awesome vid, just about to purchase this wonderful guitar. May I ask you - what is the song you play from the 8th minute, please?
First few chord of canon in d
Have you tried the 59? Which one is better for metal? Im looking for a bright raw sound. I heard the 50’s has that brighter sound
Go Rich GO!
Great video! I’m curious which one you preferred the best 50’s or 60’s?
50s I like the fat neck.
Hi Rich, which do you prefer, the Epi Goldtop or the Epi Modern?
Cant beat a good goldtop. Just paid mine off.
Which would you choose? Epiphone les paul 50s standard gold or vintage v100 afd slash? I want to play guns n’ roses songs.
I have got to try an LP style.
You should! It was my second guitar I had gotten. I tried one of these 50’s style ones in Guitar Center yesterday and it feels amazing.
I need a guitar teacher that plays like that
I have a bit of a weakness for Goldtops. I already have Gibson Tribute Goldtop and an Epi 56 Goldtop with P90s (with a huge neck)as well as a Hofner Violin Bass which I only bought because it was a limited edition with--you've guessed it--a gold top.I am now very tempted by one of these. Do I need help?
How do you find the Gibson tribute?
@@Mwal00 Very disappointing. I have never been happy with the fret ends which are very 'lumpy' and need to be rounded more. But much worse than that is the fact that a couple of the fingerboard inlays are lifting, to the extent where it is pretty much unplayable at the moment. The Epi 56 Goldtop is superior in terms of playability. But better than both of these is a Vintage brand Lemon Drop(the Peter Green model) which I have and is by far the cheapest.
Would you say the new 1959 is better? The price is the same if you deduct the case from the 59er
how about the neck, its comfortable or not while playing, thanks.
Sounds amazing
What unit/effect are you using? Brand/model?
Helix LT, the Engl model, some verb and delay.
Rich, I need Your opinion about the tuners in this guitar, I've never had a guitar with these vintage type tuners and I don't know nothing about them, are they durable and if there are no problems with them ? The quality is similar to grover tuners ? And the guitar stay tune ?
Yeah they are good tuners. Grovers might be a little better, but I felt like this guitar stayed in tune very well.
@@RichBischoff thank You so much !
Hi Rich, need your advice,on the fence with the Epi Goldtop or Fender Player Tele, which would you pick? Thanks
Tele. But I gravitate more towards that guitar. Also I feel like teles stay in tune more often than a LP.
@@RichBischoff thanks so much for your advice,I appreciate it,I tried both yesterday and the Tele felt nice
Awesome, so you are not keeping the Epi Pelham Blue?
No I kept it.
The gap between Epiphone and Gibson is shrinking. The Epiphone value is awesome with these guitars
Very good playing, sir! And extraordinary review! Can I ask how tall are you? Because that LP looks very small in your hands. :))) It looks like a short-scale guitar. That's why I think you are pretty tall... Am I right?😄
I am tall
@@RichBischoff What amp do you use in this one?
@@dragosciocan9320 I think it was the Friedman BE 100 amp model in the Line 6 Helix.
@@RichBischoff Amazing tone! Truly fantastic! It fits your playing so well.😃
I wished Epiphone didnt put veneers on the back of this and the 60's model. Why cant they just use well book matched wood like a lot of the cheaper brands.
Rich,
She is beautiful, and you make her sing...!
Trade in the other lady, for this beautiful, exquisite, voluptuous beauty.
(I am talking about the guitars).
😆😆❤️❤️🎸🎸🤣🤣
Just a small advice from you sir.i would like to buy the same guitar ,do you think quality wise is good as a usa gibson ??pickup wise and tuners??thanks
Your paying $2000 more for a Gibson. There will be some different materials used on the Gibson, and parts, it has the name Gibson on the head stock and its built in the USA. Do they play all that much different? No. This was my favorite epiphone LP and I would have purchased it if I had the cash. A really good Epiphone, I have a hard time telling apart from a Gibson. With Gibson your paying for the legacy and the name and the resale value.
@@RichBischoff you are right on this.i buy guitar to play it.i will take your advice and buy it.thanks
All this needs are soap bar p90s from the earliest les pauls 52 or 3 I think
9
Is gold top?
That is indeed a goldtop
Sold it yet?
No...
@@RichBischoff 😎
I have same guitar, got new 3 years ago, frets out ,high strings , junk ,chibson is way better
