    Wow, what a helpful and informative thread, thanks! My question, if you can help: Technician just replaced the salt cell and everything is working perfectly; however, somehow I have managed to change the default readout from 2900 to 2.9. I know it's the same thing but in decimal form, but I'd like to know what I did to make this happen, and how to set it back to reading 2900. Any clues? Thanks!

      You went to the metric reading. Press the diagnostic button once for temp. Move the switch from auto to super chlorinate and back to auto. It should set back to ppm.

      I know this is 3 years late but may help someone with the same issue. First, the generating light would be off if salt level is actually that high. Next, check the T-cell display matches yours as shown in video. If still reading high, recalibrate using instant salt reading as in video or calibrate by switching to Off, then Auto, press diagnostic 5 times, wait for reading to settle, then lock in by switching to Super Clorinate, then back to Auto. I'd also check the sensor on the T-cell is facing the correct direction of flow as show by the arrow on it. If still reading high, take another water sample to another store to double check. You may have added too much salt. 😉

    Wow. Well done, and the walk through all the way to the end of the video was key for my issue. I had a power outage (lighting storm in FL) and my system reset to the all the defaults. E.g, t-15 cell (I have a TCell925) and worst of all,, metric values and instead of USA values. I couldn't understand why none of my previous values (before power failure) had gone. THANK YOU!!!

    A lot of great questions here but it would be nice if the tech that solved the problem demonstrated how he did it in a vid. I am working with one of these in Canada at a very well known hotel chain. The rep that came to see us was terrible. Said that the newer models have no display and didn't get back to us yet. Anyway...the pins on the controller connections to power are a bit corroded, how would you go about cleaning them. Thanks

    • @HaywardPoolProducts
      @HaywardPoolProducts  5 років тому +1

      A little confused on the exact model but cleaning the power connections on the AquaRite or other models should be done to insure a good connection. If possible, remove the screws first. Use a non metallic cleaning scrubber. Something metal could leave residue. A good hardware store should have a cleaner in the electrical dept. Please private message your phone number to our Facebook page if you would like a call.

    I have a Aqua-rite and T-9 cell that is 3 years old, initially the salt generator ran properly and I had my %dial typically set to 30-40% , towards the end of the year my chlorine level was very high and I set the dial to 10%. this year I have set the dial to 0 % and it is still over chlorinating the pool. How do you re-calibrate the unit to operate at the proper level.

    I have the Hayward Goldline Control Chlorinator for many years. The board version is r1.40 (which is much older than what you are showing). It is only in the past week or so, once a while, there is a loud bang coming out of the box, the power to the pump momentarily turns off, then back on again. The default display on the digital panel is showing 1.2 instead of the salt level (not sure what the 1.2 means, but for all these years, it's always the salt level). I suspect the loud bang comes from the transformer, but the display leads me to think of the electronic board. Which component do you think I should replace first? Many thanks!!!

    When I set the average salt reading level to a level I like (clicking on super chlorinate to set), it is all good. But the next time the system turns on, the average salt reading level will, gradually, be at the instant salt reading level and the cell won't produce chlorine, because the average salt reading level is not satisfied. How do I get the average salt reading level to stay at the level I set it for through the year?

    Hi +Anthony L, there is no reply button on your UA-cam comments, so we are writing a separate post to answer your question. The only way to use a cell smaller than a T-15 is if your software revision is 1.50 or greater. If it is, you have a choice of all the cells we manufacture. If your software revision is less than 1.50, you can only use the T-15 cell. The T-15 cell will last 3-5 years, depending on use. You can see your software revision by pressing the diagnostic button multiple times until it appears on the screen.

    Have a Aqua Rite Chlorine Generator Goldline T-15 cell. Everything else is Hayward, pump, etc... The salt water generator gives me a salt reading of 2600, when I take a sample water to Leslie's they get a reading of 4000. I've tried resetting, still shows 2600. This has been going on for the last month or so. I've added at least 2 bags of salt in that time. The reading did go up to 2900 but it's back to 2600. The red led light telling me to check the salt is blinking. I have cleaned the cell. Just wondering does this indicate that I need a new generator?
    Just got off the phone with the Hayward tech support. He went through the diagnostics with the board. Says I probably need a new cell. Mine is at least 4 years old, maybe 5. I've searched online for prices and see the T-15 is for 40000 gallon pools. My pool is just a play pool, probably 10k-15k gallons. Do I need the T-15 or can I go to a lower model and save some money?

    1400 ppm salt reading, I added salt to get to 3000, pool store says its 4500, and cell not generating chlorine and to get a new one... put new cell in and hoping to see the 4500 value or something less as I started to drain and dilute, it still reads 1400 so I guess its the control board screwing up??

    Not directly related... I just replaced all the railings on my above ground pool due to rust. I had to replace them with the same type of railings so of course they will rust again. Would a sacrificial anode do anything to protect the rails around the perimeter? My pool is 25' X 12 ". The railings around the top edge are about 8" wide. The underside of the railings is where I saw the most corrosion.

    I bought a home with a Hayward salt system that I haven't used in the 5 years since I bought it. The previous owners never even opened the pool. I am interested in running and getting the salt system working. The power led is on, and the display shows "2600". The low flow button goes on with the pump is turned off. I cannot get the diagnostic button to do anything, nor the lever for the Auto or Super chorinate. I have not replaced the cell yet, but have one on order. Is there something wrong with my diagnostic button, if nothing happens when I push it? Or is this due to the cell being too old? I did check inside the current cell and its clear. Thank you.

      TelecasterPickn We'd need more information to help. How old is the cell? What is the model number on the cell? When the unit's inspect cell and check salt lights come on, it is either low salt or a bad cell. How are you testing the salt level? Strips are not always accurate. Please have a store use a test kit or electronic tester.

    Before you replace your board. A question for you. !!! Are your display lights and numbers fidgeting ? If the are replace the display first. Its much cheaper than the board about $115 vs $400. If not try this also my own pool did this.
    I put an old board in that I had replaced the thermistor in. After a new aftermarket board lasted 2 days.
    I was confused about the salt level numbers saying 2.7 and red lights were on after 30 seconds or so.
    Turns out I needed to check all my settings. It was in metric was set for t-3 cell mine is t-15 and had to calibrate the salt level. I have a hand held electronic salt meter and it’s normally very close to the Hayward reading. I had to toggle it from off to auto a few times to get it to start counting down like you’ve seen in calibration videos then flip it up to super chlorinate and back to auto to hold the setting. But now lights are green and everything it good in the pool.

    Hello Hayward,
    I have the Aqua rite with t9 cell, about 6 years old. Determined due to error messages that the circuit board needed to be replaced. Bought the Hayward and installed it following video instruction. I'm in Toronto and the pool was just opened 3 days ago. Everything seemed OK but now the settings show no salt, 0 reading, and the check salt light and inspect cell are on and solid. I knew salt level was good as I had added some - pool store read it at 3400. I then cleaned the cell with acid/water even though it was not dirty at all. Still the lights stayed on. How do I know if it is the cell or the Aquarite?

When I went to reset the salt level however, after moving the switch to 'super-chlorinate', the negative salt number dropped to zero. I set it back to 'auto' and now my salt level(the reading without the negative) is reading 0, the inspect cell light is back on and the 'generating' light is now off.

      AZ PHX Make sure that when you reset the instant salt level you have a reading other than 0. After going to off and back to auto and you hear a click, press the diagnostic button 5 times. If the level is O you may have a bad cell. Try it one more time. Cells last 3-5 years.

    I just moved into a house with salt pool. I have the Gold Line Aqua Rite salt chlorine generator, looks exactly like the one pictured. I replaced the Salt Cell with the new Hayward model that replaces the T 15: TCell940 I installed it and it did start to chlorinate. However, now I get the Inspect Cell reading and I did try to determine if i needed to configure anything, and it seems to be like Plug and Play, older model I expect. I am perplexed! I watched this video and have the Manual, yet I do not know if I am chlorinating. I do have a low salt reading and I know that is low. I think it is 1300. This pool is 22 by 40+, I am not sure how many gallons, 9 feet deep in deep end. I just don't know what I need to do with this control box....

    So many of us have the same faulty salt reading. Why can't Haywood post the many different solutions right here? There must be many solutions as why would every answer say haywoods tech will contact you?
    I'm in northern Florida. Salt was reading about 2200 so salt was added. Took abt 24 Hijra for new reading. After enough bags it was abt 3400. Great chlorine production pool was great. Two weeks later no chlorine. Cell was cleaned reading was 500. Cannot be right. Reset salt still 500. Guess I am upset as to why Haywood does not have videos on these problems as it appears there as so many the same.

      The AquaRite only controls the chlorine. Muriatic acid is used to control the pH. Power Powder is a chlorine. Remember to test pH and add acid as needed. A good test kit is needed.

    I have a 40K gallon inground pool with the Hayward 15 T Turbo salt cell > Aqua Rite system.We just had our pool guy clean the salt cell. The trouble began after the cleaning. I have power to the control panel as indicated by the green light. When I flip the switch up to "Auto or Super Chlorinate" the system acts normal for about 5-6 seconds and then suddenly shuts off. All the green lights along with power light go out. Any idea why my system shuts off?

    • @HaywardPoolProducts
      @HaywardPoolProducts  6 років тому

      Hi Reid, the issue would be a bad board inside the AquaRite. Most likely, if the power light goes out and the display stays on, it would be the main pcb, but we would want to get a HASC onsite to fully diagnose the unit to be sure the main pcb is the culprit. Please let us know if you have any further questions. If so, PM your phone number on our Facebook page or Twitter account and someone will call you.

      The main software revision has to be 1.50 or higher in order to have the option to choose a different cell size. If the revision is older than the option is not available and the control unit will only function with a T-15 cell.

    • @HaywardPoolProducts

      That reading normally happens when the water is too hot. If the water is normal 60-90 the problem could be a bad cell or main board. Clean the cell throughly and if it persists, have a technician check it out.

      It takes 48 to 72 hrs for the salt to dissolve completely. After 2 days have your water tested by a local dealer to confirm salt level before adding any more salt. The store will tell you what more you need to do.

      My wife called a Tech, she was told the reading has to get up to 2400 ppm min however we do it to chlorinate. So we added salt , reading went up to 1900..(now there are 11 bags in a 13,500 gallon pool).OK but then I started wondering what the actual reading was ,as I still would have to raise it to 2400 which means more salt! I bought a salt dip electronic digital tester and the salt reading is 5100ppm. So I called the tech myself. This time he tells me the salt is to high so it won't read right!!! WHAT? we tried to recalibrate it still 1900, he asks me to drain a few inches of water and try to recalibrate it again? I told him obviously this is a fools errand. we kept adding salt to gradually raise it to this point now when I drain it the meter reading of salt will likely go down and I am back to square one! Mean time I have to worry about algae as this has been going on for a week! I am going to have the water third party tested and if it confirms the digital test reading I will try to get a Tech to come out to the house but I can tell you as a consumer I am wishing I just went with Chlorine to begin with!!!!

    I just tested my pool water at a testing store and the salt level is 3200 ppm. However, the reading on my Aquarite is 5100-5300 (depending on the hour!). I’ve attempted to recalibrate numerous times but the salt reading continues to show levels in the 5000’s. Our pool is 6 months old, so I am struggling to understand what the issue is. With the salt reading of 5100 or so, we are not getting a high salt level warning light which is surprising.
    Our salt cell is -T914 (so T setting is at 9). I’m running out of ideas when trying to figure out what is wrong. I did clean the salt cell (very minor debris).
    Any ideas?

      R LEBLANC I believe the T-15 cell rated for 40,000 is the best. Best bang for the buck. If you are buying a cell for an older unit the T-15 may be the only cell you can use. If you are buying a whole new unit, all cell types will work.

      Hayward Pool Products I'm looking at buying a whole new AquaRite and I was wondering about the model to buy. Someone told me that if the pool size is close to the limit, I should buy the next model up. The vendor tells me that the AQR3CUL is fine for a 14,700 US gallon pool. I'm a bit confused because I don't want the system to be too small.

    • @HaywardPoolProducts
      @HaywardPoolProducts  9 років тому

      The AQR3CUL will work just fine. The larger the cell (AQR15CUL) the longer the cell life. Cells will last 3-5 years. Depending on the bathing load of the pool and how many years it would be used should determine cell type. If it was me I would buy the AQR15CUL. All will work fine, just that the bigger cell will last longer. All cells have a life span.

I was told by the installer that if the salt levels were between 2400 to 3100 everything should be balanced. Several weeks ago I had grand kids swimming in the pool and they were all complaining about itchy skin and eyes. What should be I do to rectify this.

      +Gabe Rosati Not sure what the installer told you about the AquaRite system but it only produces Chlorine. You still need to balance the pH along with the Alkalinity. This is accomplished by adding acid as needed when the water is tested. The most common reason for itchy eyes is a pH problem. Do you have a test kit that test for pH and Alkalinity? I would take some water down to your local pool store and have a complete test run on your water.

    • @HaywardPoolProducts
      @HaywardPoolProducts  7 років тому

      From our Hayward Tech: My guess is the cell needs to be replaced. If the salt level is 5200 it should read high salt. At that level the pool should be drained to bring the salt level down below 3400. Level should be between 2700-3400 for operation. Below 2700 will give you a check salt and above 3400 will give you a high salt light. Have the water tested once more by another pool store. Make sure they are not using strips but an electronic tester or titration method.
      The fact that the cell is reading 0 makes me think the cell is bad. Cells last an average of 3-5 years.

      ***** Up until a few years ago the AquaRite only had one cell. When the need for different cells came about the unit was changed to accept the different cells and had the choice in the programming. If your unit does not have this you need to replace the old cell with the same model. If you ever change out the main PCB board, you will then have the programming to accept different cells.

    I have a goldline aquarite t15 approximately 8 years old cleaned of build up within the last month. I have reset salt level several times to get it to the 3000 setting that the pool store has verified as the current salt level. It will work for a while apparently after turning off and back on then after an indefinite amount of time it will set the check cell light on and the check salt light on. The readings I got when it was on without lights on were 80 (which matched pool temp), 26.2, 4.3, 100p (which matched the 100% setting it was on), 3000 (which is what I reset it to), al5, r 1.4. I had the salt cell checked at Leslies and they say it checks good. Not generating enough chlorine to stop pool from turning green. Don't want to buy a salt cell if it is a board issue and don't want to buy a board if it is a cell issue and don't want to buy either if that isn't the problem.

I am now having a problem with the system again. I can reset the reading to where it shows -3000/3000 and com back later and it shows 600. I have a new cell, entire new filter, new flow switch and replaced the pump and heater less than a year ago. Today, I have a 0 reading. Does that mean I will need another new system? This is costly. I had my first box more than 13 years before it went out. Why in the last 3 years I'm having trouble?

    my clorine generator when turned on flashes the no flow light and after 15 - 20 seconds the generating light goes on per normal , but then after 10 -15 seconds the lights shut off and the unit shuts down completely , any ideas about what it could be? maybe flow sensor, maybe other?

      @HaywardPoolProducts  9 років тому

      Larry Chapman Hi Larry, The flow light flashing for 15-20 seconds on start up before going off is normal. The unit shutting down after a few minutes is not. This is most likely a main board problem. Please forward your email and phone number so we can make contact to confirm.

    Thanks for this video. I have recently replaced both the flow switch and the t-9 salt cell within the last couple of months. I have checked the salt level with test strips. The salt level is 3360. My ph is correct, and I have checked the phosphorous level which read 100 so I added phos free.
    What keeps happening is my system reads "slo" and the check salt light and inspect cell light come on, both steady. The power and generating lights are on.
    My readings are SLO, 80, 30.6, 0,15p, 0, AL0, r15 t-9.
    I turn the system off and back on, and the lights for power and generating come on. This works for a while and then I am back to the check salt light and instpect cell light come on, both steady. I am resetting this daily.
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Cheryl

    Hello, Is there anyway to verify that my system is actually generating Chlorine? Lights seem to be functioning properly and all readings indicate that the system is working but my slat reading has not decreased in 4 weeks and my pool has very little chlorine in it.

    • @HaywardPoolProducts
      @HaywardPoolProducts  9 років тому

      We need more information on the unit and pool. Salt level should stay fairly steady. Chlorine output depends on the setting. Chlorine reading depends on amount of swimmer. other test being ok, and conditioner in the water. If you want to post your phone number we will call to help.

    I'm having issues with low salt reading. Currently, the display shows 1900 but when I had the water tested is was at 3200. The cell is 1 years old and tested "GOOD" and I just replaced the PCB board. Could the cell test OK but actually be faulty?

      I believe the cell is bad even though it the test did not indicate this. I have to assume it is bad for reasons other than what the standard test are used for. Really disappointed with the lack of quality for this cell. My first cell lasted 3 years. One year for a $500 cell is not acceptable.

      Sorry, but its been a while. I forgot I had a neighbor test the cell on his system. Received the same low salt reading. That is why I know the tests at the pool stores are giving false readings.

    Had my salt level tested and it was at 3200 ppm. Had my salt generator tested also and they said it was working but my read out says only 600 ppm and says check salt cell. I assume that due to the low ppm it will not turn on my salt generator as it is not producing chlorine. Any suggestions

    I am using a Pentair VS. It requires constant voltage, so I removed the on - off tabs on the timer, which now accomplishes that. However, my salt generator is now powered at all times. Is this ok?

      +Mj Arcicovich since the pump requires constant power, run the voltage from the line side of the time clock. This way power will always go to the pump without the use of the time clock trippers. Run the power for the salt system from the load side of the time clock and use the trippers to turn off and on. Set them for when the pump comes on. Remember, you have a flow switch so if the salt system is on with the pump off it will not generate chlorine.

    Hi, I just bought and set up my AQ-trol-HP and notice that i can't perform the same steps you have, can't get to the cell option. ..it's a T5. Is it an old model? the board PN is G1-011056-1 RevC. Screen shows Ver.1.45

    • @HaywardPoolProducts

      nAz The AquaTrol designed for above ground pools only used the T-5 cell. There is no choice for other cells.

      @@HaywardPoolProducts I bought a kit from a dealer in 2022, I can’t change the t-cell setting due to having revision 1.47. It also came with a T cell 5.
      What you’re saying is mine shouldn’t use a t5, and should only use a t15?

    I have recently replaced my T-cell 15. Before I knew my T-cell 15 was bad I added salt. Over time I added about 4 bags. Now the monitor reads 4300 but its generating chlorine. I have let water out and put more in several times but its still reading 4300. Have I done something wrong. I hope I haven't ruined the new cell.

    • @HaywardPoolProducts

      Do an instant salt reading. Also post phone number if you want more info. Never add salt without having the water independently tested. Turn the switch from auto to off back to auto. Wait for a click and press the diagnostic button 5 times. If the negative salt reading here is still high, you need to drain more water. If the salt level here is lower, take the switch and move from auto to super chlorinate while you are reading the negative number. It will lock in this new number.

      Hayward does not work. Same thing happened to us we got to over 9,000. Second time around we were at 5,700. I'm on my 2nd cell in 3 years and we probably need another one; Pool is turning green. Getting something else this time even if it costs me rep lumping.

    what does it mean when you turn the desired output dial up but it's not budging (ours keeps showing 10%)? no matter where i turn the dial, the output on the display stays at 10%. our free chlorine readings are basically zero, and we just got rid of an algae bloom by manually shocking, and the chlorine post shock is back to zero. unit also shows it's generating. all very annoying considering we have the unit that should be doing the work. help!
