Great explanations. Just picked up the sci-fi 5 parsecs from home and though I'll do some co-op with friends, I definitely plan to do some solo when our schedules don't match up
I can heartily recommend the Two Hour Wargames series of rules. They are designed specifically for solo play and support cooperative and PVP gaming too. Games such as Nuts! for WW2 and 5150 for Sci Fi amongst others are a good starting point. .
Any game that limits your actions, rather than Igo/Ugo move all your toys, is good for solo wargaming. Chain of Command with it's variable command dice is a favourite. DBx for ancients uses a command roll for each general again limiting what you can do, others like Bolt Action with its order dice, let you move everything but in an un-predictable manner.
I wrote a set of 6mm WW2 micro armour rules called ‘All Hell Let Loose’, that are good for solo wargaming. You can get a pdf or a physical book from Wargames Vault.
I find it helpful to create some randomized dice roll lists for enemy reactions. I also created formation and movement cards to randomize whats happening on the board.
