Another period of history, in the immediate post-WW1 era, is the Estonian War of Independence against the Soviet Union, and the subsequent "Landwehr War" to liberate Lithuania of rogue German Freikorps, crushing the hopes of an Imperial Baltic Duchy in the last days of the German Empire. Fascinating time period, would love to wargame it!

Any game that limits your actions, rather than Igo/Ugo move all your toys, is good for solo wargaming. Chain of Command with it's variable command dice is a favourite. DBx for ancients uses a command roll for each general again limiting what you can do, others like Bolt Action with its order dice, let you move everything but in an un-predictable manner.

The 155mm Howitzer M1917 is a Schneider, not a GPF. The GPF was the 155mm Gun M1918. Longer barrel and less elevation. It was used in WWII by the US mounted on an M3 medium tank chassis as the M12 Gun Motor Carriage.
