    There was a time when it seemed we wanted to be and look like Black people -!
    There was a time when we were conscious-!
    There was a time when it seemed we wanted to be respectful with each others life.
    There was a time when it seemed all our integrity, strength, peace, love and unity would grow even stronger with such A BINDING & IMPREGNABLE STRENGTH WE COULD NOT BE MOVED AND OUR MINDS WOULD AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN EMANCIPATED A LONG TIME AGO-!!!

      Its to do with the hairstyles that were out, remember the white people were making their hair curly to have certain styles, then everyone started relaxing their hair in the late 80s, so hairstyles were more versatile. Raving ad styling your hair was difficult,. I was natural and used to style my hair with curlers, before the dance was done, my hair used to be all shrunk up, we used to quickly rush out the dance, before the light came on, lol

    There's nothing like this anymore for young people of Caribbean roots, not even in Birmingham. No more dancehalls, no more dub, no more sound systems. I feel disconnected from my culture and robbed of the opportunity to experience things like this. Now when you go to places the music is shit, entry is expensive and the people just want to start violence and show disrespect to everyone.

      Its MPLA by the Revolutionaries, a big tune in 1976, the Channel One cut to Roy Richards' Studio One classic Freedom Blues, itself a cover of Little Richard's 1970 tune. The track before it is Jackie Bernard's Roots Music.

    Giggles on the mic at Scamps Leicester "Is ionization the process of turning Rastafarian?"....use your brain think about it, you'll get it in the morning and start laughing. Later Fuzz, Norman, Wayne and Mark and co...time for a blues in Highfields.

    • @drychaf
      @drychaf Місяць тому +1

      lol
      Do you know of any blues party videos on YT? Just sound would do. Loving the music, I only went to Highfields once, back in around 1980. As a lone white lad, I didn't feel at ease! (There were comments from the shadows as I approached down the dark drive and someone tried to charge for entry - he had nothing to do with the gig, just trying it on.) But there were a few nights where the same sounds would pump out at the Poly, and I loved the experimentation.

    • @anthonyclarke5579
      @anthonyclarke5579 Місяць тому +1

      @@drychaf Giggling even now...can you imagine trying to hook up a video or even an audio cassette and not get shown the exit politely, er hem. Fuck me you needed an ever ready torch to find your way around in the dark ha! Like yourself I was walking on eggs and happy to be with "George" (with the stammer but you wouldn't say that to his face) who invited me.
      There were a few good guys on the doors in those days Moose, George, Tony, Billy and even Rocky Campbell. Later on Roy who drove a BMW (this was at Toffs in Loughborough). He gave me a lift a few times and I always remember him saying "lets put some space from this place" as we flew past Birstall. He would carry his sports bag into work and one night he got seriously threatened by a local with a big long pointy thing of a knife.
      Roy ever obliging, asked him to wait outside the door, he then went back to his sports bag and took out a very nasty looking machete and returned to the door. He then asked the local "where he wanted to do this?" the reply was "I was only joking Roy" as he turned and wandered off into the night in a bit of a hurry.
      As for music of the day, you might do well to track down Hurdle White and have a slobber with him, the last I heard he was working on Radio Leicester but I've been out of the UK since 1981. I vividly remember being in the Horsefair for a Saturday lunch time set when Val Foster (DJ) dropped Augustus Pablo "King Tubby" on the decks. It still scares the shit out of me, just a classic track. I know Val is still around so maybe you can have a chin wag with her.
      Good luck, I'm outta here.
      PS If you come across a fella called Mark Piper let him know where I am (Norway) and that I would love to hook up with him again and shoot the breeze, we lost track over time kids, marriage etc. He saved my ass from a good kicking at a gig by Delegation at the Poly (I was the wrong colour that night)....ah them were the days. Gone but not (quite) forgotten.

      @@anthonyclarke5579 Those were the days, indeed. Your recall is incredible! Radio Leicester had some good shows. Learnt a lot, listening. Used to record and compile cassettes.
      I also left in the 80s. I hope someone else will read your comment and get in touch for you.
      Last year I could have given him or you a lift - I was wandering around Norway for a few weeks in my van! (Nordkapp, Skibotn, Lofoten, Oslo, etc)
      Cheers.
