I saw this on TV and literally thought it was fake due to this is beyond stupid; camera crew and diver just made Johnny Knoxville look like an MIT graduate. Sharks are very sensitive of their snouts. The polycarbonate texture added to the complications of the tether ensured that that shark was gone. Sharks leave, but watch them leave. Never turn your back to them. When I saw footage of the man swimming, I knew he was going to be uneaten.
It was completely irresponsible from a supposed expert. He's alive because the shark was well fed and Jesus. I saw the agitation in the shark and knew the first 3 seconds he was going through it. 😂😂😂 Ridiculous behavior
I like how he began with tapping on the glass to get the shark’s attention then moments later being in absolute terror when he finally gets the sharks attention.
@@GerardoFlorendoI agree but great whites are also apex predators of ocean ,in a one on one fight à fully grown white Shark of 21 ft can fight back a orca ,but in a one on one competition, orcas do hunt ỉn a pod,but great whites r lone rangers.
They're professionals, they dont need other safety measures! Joking aside...they're very fortunate they weren't responsible for their colleagues death.
Looked mostly fake in so much as they edited the danger in by implying the guy was in the water, out of his box, while the shark was still there. I am betting the 2 shots, him in the box and him out of the box, were maybe 1 hr apart or whatever it took. the part with the shark swimming away with the line - they fed it something.
First of all: That is not a shark attack. That is an idiot in a non-shark proof container provoking the curiosity of the shark. The man is lucky to be alive.
When Jimi Partington tried to go back into the water after this experience, he had a stroke. They like to try to get people to say they would go right back into the water but they dont talk about the PTSD that A LOT of people who survive attacks suffer. Now he has to learn to walk and talk all over again.
"A very experienced shark expert"? No, a total idiot. Who couldn't see what was coming? Risking a man's life by putting him in a flimsy plastic box with a great white shark in open water is beyond criminal. He ended up splashing about in just the right way to provoke an attack. Who would have accepted responsibility if he had been eaten on camera? ("Oh, he knew what he was getting into. This has never happened before. Lessons will be learned etc.") Disgusting.
IMO it was more than just splashing about. I’d guess they baited the water to bring sharks near. That shark was more aggressive than the average shark that just happens to be swimming by.
This was all an act! Flailing around on a cork size piece plastic like a total buffoon! How do they think they’re gonna get away with this as if it’s serious!?
He knew what was coming. They wanted to get some amazing footage. No way he was disappointed by the results, and the shark expert also knows that sharks are not bad beings. I have nothing against polar bears, in fact I like them, but polar bears are way more territorial.
Exactly what I was thinking, like did they seriously think the strike wouldn’t be that forceful?? This is one of the oceans top predators we’re talking about!!
"truth be told a great white shark could break into any cage" Well then why don't we put a diver in a flimsy container thats so transparent it doesn't even appear to be a viable barrier to a vertical attack from below?
Lol, Although i didn't see the show. My guess is that they didn't go searching for great whites just sharks in general. One just happened to show up like, "What's on the menu today boyz". However if they were searching for a great whites then their choice in cage is just too unrealistic boarding on illogical
The exact definition of "play stupid games, win stupid prizes". Glad he came out alive of the situation, but even if it goes south, i wouldn't blame the shark and not even feel as bad.
That's a diver but not a shark expert. You could really see how different a shark expert would response on this kind of situation. The way he acted after that, like a scared injured fish, it's a surprise he's alive.
He could be an expert but like Mike Tyson said, "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face." It's one thing to read about what to do next and entirely different when you're seconds away from being an animals meal.
I mean seriously, no buoy to be tossed to him to help pull him in, no devices for them to distract the shark so they can get to him. Just a bunch of bystanders yelling and doing nothing....
That’s what I was thinking, no backup plan at all? No line attached to him that they could just zip him in? No guys on jet skis close at hand? No shark proof metal mesh suit? They didn’t seem very prepared at all for experts.
Completely agree. They put him in a box with the structural integrity of a crisp packet then seem to have no idea to handle the situation they were clearly hoping for. Some of the dumbest shit ive seen
What amazes me is the look of Jeff Kurr (Producer and Director of the show) straight faced saying that basically they couldnt have done anything to avoid the situation. This should be enough evidence for a lawsuit against him.
If you see in the video, he was knocking on glass trying to get the shark's attention. The shark was trying to get fish. I think they purposely the fed the fish. I notixed the fish was surrounding the glass. The shark did not deliberately knocked the glass, it was trying to get fish.
@Frenchfili You shouldn’t speak on what you don’t know, The bait fish were hanging around the cage for cover, they always hang around structure. That white shark circled him to investigate and weigh up it’s prey, it then bumped the “cage” to get a feel for it and decided it could get to him, it swam off to get distance and attacked from a blindspot below. If you look at it’s eyes it was never looking at the baitfish and was completely uninterested in them, it wanted the dude and if that “cage” wasn’t there he would be dead.He was also lucky there was rigging in the water and the shark got tangled in it or when he got thrown out and was splashing around like a retard it would of circled back and taken his soul.
The shark didnt attack. Shark attacks dont look like that. That shark literally just tried to bite that thing because it wanted to know what it was. Same with the surfer in the beginning of the video. That surfer wasnt attacked by a shark. That surfer got bit by a shark because she shark didnt understand what a human was and it was curious to figure it out (yes amazingly sharks can have curiousity). There was no apex predator sht happening in that scene. A real shark attack is much more brutal and devestating
Leave it. It has that titillation we all love: mauled by a bear, gored by a charging rhino, swimming in shark-infested waters... It's a visceral reminder we're never king of the jungle.

If this clip is even real then the "box" was no more than basic thick single pane glass - not even up to handling an accidental knock from the boat, let alone a purposeful ramming from a multi ton shark that has the power to lift itself all the way out of the water when hunting. *I very much doubt it is - Discovery has a history of faking or misrepresenting content for entertainment during Shark Week. Also the box was surrounded by fish - however that happened it was clearly designed to draw the shark in and confuse it.
There’s an episode of Shark Week where a guy named Dicky (his real name) does almost the exact same thing. The shark made a surprise attack and split almost exactly the same type of “container” in half. This was pure negligence.
yeah it seems the producer is some sort of closet psycho that wants to see someone die and feel empowered that he was the one that put them up to it. these type of people are hiding in plain sight usually sometimes even pretending to befriend you.
For a shark expert am surprised he didn't see it coming. Jaws circled three times around the cage before making his vertical attack. So the lesson here is don't ever underestimate a great white especially one that's 16 feet long. He's lucky he's still alive.
Maybe he thought since the shark wasn't aggressive or doing anything he didn't feel was unusual he felt safe and thought he knew the sharks behavior patterns. So when that happened he probably thought it could've been something else but I bet he'll be more vigilant in the future, funny how he was so comfortable with what he assumed, never too late to learn something new.
It looked like is might have swallowed some big pieces of the cage, the shark might not have been ok after, or at least got some debris in its stomach.
I only saw skill less diver, clue less and terrified thrashing about ,that upward charge from the Real Deal with open jaw would have bitten him clean in half.
This is literally just so confusing to watch. He's knocking on the "cage" getting the sharks attention, and then when the shark is reacting they all act SO shocked...am I the only one who thinks they're all idiots?
Just making the shark aggressive so they can have more views, those professionals got what they wish for they escalated the scene and it turns out that the shark was in for an action.
There is absolutely NOTHING more terrifying than seeing that ginormous beast glide through the dark murky waters, as it circles its prey and toys with it. That brings a level of fear out of me I didn't even realize I had. What a beautiful animal indeed!
The producer said “nothing we could do for him, he just had to swim for it”. Wonderful guy to work for. Talk about watching out for others and safety on the job!
@hatchettc182 nah that's the cable that was attached to reel the cage in. The shark hit the corner it was attached to and broke that side of the "cage", taking the cable with it.
•for a production like shark week, they didnt seem to consider that a great white shark has one of the strongest bite forces on Earth. nobody tested this container they put the diver in to see if it could withstand it?? also sharks dont break metal cages, they "break into" them through the openings. •also the footage of him swimming away, im really curious how they got all those angles of him escaping •Edited for Spelling
It wasn’t the bite force that broke the container, the shark can’t bite a flat surface. It was just the sheer weight and strength of the shark pushing upwards. And drones and cameras on sticks (or whatever the proper term is) are used for the extra shots.

I guess half of the audience if no more agrees with you; plenty of comments here title these "experts" the more apposite name - idiots. The footage is terrifying, though it was pretty predictable. Sharks are fascinating, gorgeous, and useful animals; we should behave more respectfully towards them. I once accidentally swam with them (no great whites, though), and it was one of the most profound experiences in my life. They are fascinating creatures and definitely not mindless attackers.
You must have missed the episode a couple of years ago when they put the kid on the shark shaped cardboard with great whites all around to see what they would do....
This guy and his team put his life on the line for the sake of entertainment...glad he made it out but I sure hope they and others learned the lesson. It'd be real tragic to see this level of ignorance regularly.
*"This guy and his team put his life on the line for the sake of entertainment...It'd be real tragic to see this level of ignorance regularly."* Well, ignorance involved or not, the Romans sure didn't consider it tragic! I like how the one dude tries to justify their use of the clear cage by saying that it didn't matter what kind of cage they used. You k ow damn well a metal cage is better and more protected. Stop trying to rationalize yalls dumb decision to out someone's life at risk for s TV show
I've seen researchers talk about how it is possible that the metal on some shark diving cages may change the sharks behavior and disrupt their senses because of the ampullae of Lorenzini which sharks and rays use to sense the electromagnetic field... but this was designed poorly. The guy was in a position where he was horizontal and looked more like a seal and any strong bump they could easily overturn it. The shark may have been cut by the plastic too. Idiotic design and I would be surprised if the design wasn't purposeful (I mean they designed it to get more interaction from the sharks on purpose and disregarded the diver's safety. Also, after the first two inquisitive bumps they should have reeled him in anyway).
The jump was quite nicely done, a 180 degree rotation with a half twist. Not a high degree of difficulty but the execution was well done. Give Sharkey 7.4 out of ten.
He had a stroke due to the accident also because of what happened to him he cannot dive again unless he is in a small submarine one of those, they film this episode like a few months ago he also is suffering from PTSD do your research
This scenario seems suspicious to me. The diver questioned whether it was a shark that bumped the cage the third time, no backup plan to rescue the diver in case the cage had to be vacated, and the repeated footage of the shark with a rope in its mouth, yet the "cage" didn't become submerged, allowing the diver to climb out and swim off into the distance. Pardon me but it all seems a bit "fishy"!
Agreed. At the very least it was cut and edited poorly. Don’t know why they still packaged it like we were supposed to buy the narrative they were pushing which was entirely incongruous with what we watched.

Grow up. People like this man is the reason we know so much about the oceans. Why would you wish misfortune on someone that enjoys what they do? Absolutely pathetic.
I like how they promote him as a shark "expert" like that somehow explains why what he did wasn't completely stupid. The shark give him two warning bumps before smashing that little deli container to pieces and no one thought, "Hey, you guys remember what happened to Steve Irwin? Maybe we should reel him in now."
Watching that guy I kept repeating You Bloody Fucking Idiot! over & over again. Honestly I'm not the least bit surprised the shark demolished that thin little Tupperware container. The fact he didn’t have a heart attack right in that moment is amazing to me. You can see his legs move right at the LAST second when he almost got bit in half. Also the fact it didn’t just whip around and grab him shows the luck of this man. The banging on the glass was the part I felt was him taunting and trying to call the GW’s bluff and I feel the shark was either trying to make a point or the banging came across as a distress sound and enticed the GW where it probably wouldn’t have went for it without the banging of the glass. This is the craziest video I’ve seen from Shark Week in 26 years. Amazing and the scariest few seconds I could ever think of.
He actually didn't move his own leg, it was the sharks nose that shoved his a@@ aside, so basically the shark missed due to the plexiglass or whatever it was he was sitting in & the shark got caught up in the rope w/ pieces of the plexiglass/plastic parts caught in his jaw that prevented him fr turning direct back around & going for him again! By far record for me smh & IMO main reason (I'm sure there were other reasons as well) that he had a stroke 😔

This to me is probably the best shark attack footage I’ve seen because of all the different angles and how huge it was, how he’s still alive is a miracle, did bits of the “cage” get stuck in the sharks mouth? Maybe that’s why it got distracted long enough he got away? Hope shark wasn’t harmed in any way too.
I think it was the bubbles from the oxygen line; a whale swallowed a squid fisherman once and he was released because of the bubbles coming from his scuba gear
yes, the plastic sheet broke but was still a sheet, this pushed the divers leg away from the sharks mouth as it bit down idk why they ever even released this footage i mean it has unprofessional written all over it
he is alive...but went to get back in the water with great whites again after this incident and ended up having a stroke..probably from PTSD> ..the entire story was pretty crazy..
Yea wtf…even if it was a second one…secondly I’m not getting in a plastic cage to help with a show called „air jaws“…but there are people out there who do things like this…look into abalone divers that swim in great white infested waters for 8 hours and get paid like $200 per dive. The latter is poverty driven, but I don’t get this.
This guy is “experienced” but he didn’t realize that the shark was bumping the cage to test it. The shark was preparing for an assault. If a shark bumps the cage once it’s alright. But if he bumps it a second time that means he’s testing the cage because he wants what’s inside of it. And the third time he was confident enough to just go for it rather then bump it again.
There were obvious signs that this big ass White Shark was very interested in this guy dressed as a seal in plastic box floating on the surface, and was doing some serious calculations on how to make this his next meal... The guy was in the water, looking at the shark, mentioning how it had already bumped his cage twice, and then reacts to another bump by saying "What was THAT? Was that a shark?" With the knowledge that a Great white can dismantle any Cage and yet they have someone in a see through plastic box.....very interesting
It's still a shark attack. But yeah, that was one of the most idiotic things I've ever seen with regards to shark "cage" diving.

That's a diver but not a shark expert. You could really see how different a shark expert would response on this kind of situation. The way he acted after that, like a scared injured fish, it's a surprise he's alive.
He could be an expert but like Mike Tyson said, "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face." It's one thing to read about what to do next and entirely different when you're seconds away from being an animals meal.
Looks like they have no protocols or safety plans to immediately remove the diver out of harms way. The power this shark has is incredible.

What freaks me out is that it attacked precisely at the moment when he started to get confused about where it was. An ambush predator indeed.
Indeed, shark 'influencers' take note...
If you see in the video, he was knocking on glass trying to get the shark's attention.
The shark was trying to get fish. I think they purposely the fed the fish. I notixed the fish was surrounding the glass.
The shark did not deliberately knocked the glass, it was trying to get fish.
He didn't even know it was there until it bumped into the plastic. Scarey 😮

How nice of the shark to test the structural integrity of the box for the diver. Such thoughtful creatures.

I agree... just like Brandon the Buffoon entering the Whitehouse! ❤️🙏
I literally laugh my butt off when people get bit by sharks I think it's hilarious 😆
Everyones gangster till the shark dont follow script
I just think to have somebody in a shallow cage like that is irresponsible and not very bright.
Not to mention one that thin. They were definitely going cheap. My aquarium is 1 inch think bullet proof. Heavy as hell but sure the shark would not go through it like that.
Agree
volunteer: "is this safe guys?"
**producer smirks back at camera crew**
producer: "totally safe brother this shot is going to look excellent just hold tight there"
A "plastic box" versus a "Great White shark." Yeah, what could possibly go wrong?
A deep sea sub, using a Nintendo controller, diving to the wreck of the Titanic. Seems legit.
You're giving them too much credit, the controller they used was nowhere near the quality of a Nintendo controller. @@loqutisborg5416
Diver: There's a shark here
Also Diver: What was that? Was that a shark?
hahahahh
😂👍
I can't believe he wasn't even watching for it!!
lol yes, you're in a see-thru cage in the fucking water, looking specifically for sharks.
Such stupid made up drama. This is why no one believes the media. It is probably an engineered hoax. I can't see a major network knowingly allow such dangerous behavior unless it was planned.
I think it was the same guy that went back out later and had a stroke on his way to diving again.
That tapping on the glass is what set the shark off, stupid thing for them to try and get a better video in my opinion.
I tell you this you fk with the most aggressive shark in the ocean its your own stupidity if you get eaten.if he got munched id say whelp you where telling the shark hay heres free food.like Bernie Mac said thats 1 dum summmma bitch
He had a PTSD follow that dive. Followed by a stroke his dive after that.
Jeff left out that Jimmy almost died the next day. If they would have been further out in sea he would have died . He had a major stroke . If it wasn't for Jeff and the other guys with them , I think Andy and I forgot the other guys name , but they acted very quickly to get Jimmy help , the helicopter paramedics was phenomenal. Thank God Jimmy is still with us . He will never be able to go scuba diving again but he's alive and that's all that matters . We love you Jimmy glad that you survived. Both the shark attack and the stroke ! God is good ❤
"I've never seen anything like that." No one's ever gotten into an open polycarbonate cage and dressed like a seal until this.
Right... the stupidity beggars belief
😅😅😅😅
This to me is probably the best shark attack footage I’ve seen because of all the different angles and how huge it was, how he’s still alive is a miracle, did bits of the “cage” get stuck in the sharks mouth? Maybe that’s why it got distracted long enough he got away? Hope shark wasn’t harmed in any way too.
I think it was the bubbles from the oxygen line; a whale swallowed a squid fisherman once and he was released because of the bubbles coming from his scuba gear
yes, the plastic sheet broke but was still a sheet, this pushed the divers leg away from the sharks mouth as it bit down
idk why they ever even released this footage i mean it has unprofessional written all over it
he is alive...but went to get back in the water with great whites again after this incident and ended up having a stroke..probably from PTSD> ..the entire story was pretty crazy..
16ft behemoth wow!
I don't get how he's saying "was that a shark?" When he was just bumping his bloody fist to get shark's attention???
It's all an act. A circus show. Just like CNN.
I thought it was another one?
Yea wtf…even if it was a second one…secondly I’m not getting in a plastic cage to help with a show called „air jaws“…but there are people out there who do things like this…look into abalone divers that swim in great white infested waters for 8 hours and get paid like $200 per dive. The latter is poverty driven, but I don’t get this.
Right? WTF else would it be?
@@hektorm2306 same thought there was gonna be a 2nd one bigger than the one they were showing
Producer: Can you build me a plexiglass box that is really strong?
Shark: Hold my beer.
😂😂😂
This guy is “experienced” but he didn’t realize that the shark was bumping the cage to test it. The shark was preparing for an assault. If a shark bumps the cage once it’s alright. But if he bumps it a second time that means he’s testing the cage because he wants what’s inside of it. And the third time he was confident enough to just go for it rather then bump it again.
That was my thought. 1 bump 2 bumps 😳??
There were obvious signs that this big ass White Shark was very interested in this guy dressed as a seal in plastic box floating on the surface, and was doing some serious calculations on how to make this his next meal... They obviously need new management on these production sets. No plan for if disaster struck. Looks like your there guy... Spot on your assessment!
I just hate how they’re viewed as monsters. It just wants to eat. It’s not setting up psychotic farming factories like us humans.

@@starwf07 The truth here, and the joke is that he is comparing a shark biting his foot to having his foot caught in a bear trap. We all know he has never had his foot caught in a bear trap (so how would he be able to make that comparison?)
The waiver he signed before getting in that tiny shallow box must have been bigger than the encyclopedia
Or, bigger than the plexiglass container her was in. Stupid people tricks.
Why did he panic? Everyone knows that all you need to do is touch the sharks nose. 😂

Terrifying and fascinating watching that animal circle him, size him up, assess that he’s in that box, and attempt to pluck him out of it….very intelligent animal and an uncomfortably close call… 😳
That may have been it's curiosity. They swim with people all the time. And most people have zero clue.

This channel has recorded a ton with his drone. While discovery channel makes every over the top sensationalizes things.
You hear about how they hunt they’re prey but watching it, is a really different thing! I believe it’s the first time a Great White is filmed in action like this.
Yeah, I'm just wondering how anyone could think that such a light glass box would prevent a full grown shark from attacking.
@@mwb6188 because the writers of this show and the research vessel are selling this stuff to potheads in high school.

@@elykspuz6596 yeah it's curiosity. Curiosity if he can eat whatever's in that box
This diver is insane! There is no covering on the top of the tank. Sharks are intelligent creatures. If they can’t reach the prey, they pull the lifeline of the tank
And had the diver been killed it would have been reported as "A diver tragically killed in shark attack." There is no tragedy in someone taunting a great white in open water. India Delta 10 Tango!
This is just silly, comparing a baited tv show with professional equipment to a foot wound that could have been caused by stepping on a clam. One of the most ridiculous examples of sensationalism I've ever seen.
He looked very experienced when he swam away in a panic like someone just learning to swim.
🤣🤣... It's not easy to swim normally when your asshole is shivering.

I’m pretty sure the video is professionally edited with different filming locations. There’s clearly a massive film crew on hand, and it’s clear everyone was fully aware of the shark and quite clear they wanted to “create” a dramatic scene. I’m not saying this didn’t happen. Just saying I don’t think it happened the way it was presented to television, after planning and editing etc.. But 80% of people are ridiculously stupid. Yet, 80% of people would think I am also🤷🏻♂️
@@beef88 I see what you did there.
Right? I think because of the lateral line, he legit didn't see it. But yeah, should have been obvious, seeing it or not.
He knew it was a shark, I think when he said “is that a shark” he was just panicking cos he realised it was a great white
I thought it was crazy how he attempted to climb onto the broken cage
I love when they think being a shark expert will protect you from an attack 😂
Sharks are smarter than you think . I knew exactly what was going to happen watching this . There's no top on that and the shark knew it after he bumped a few times . He looked yummy to a shark just like a seal on an ice platform tray . This is ignorance and should never have happened 🤦
This comment makes a lot of sense. Should have more likes. But smart people don’t do it for likes!
Sharks are so smart that when he crashed the cage and got access to the prize, it went away with the cable instead.
That's our smart they are.
I would imagine the director and producer who pushed for better camera footage and used this inadequate platform where never anywhere near the water but will stand front and centre to try to receive any plaudits for this footage The bait in the see through Basin ( alleged safety device ) ? Well he is just a dick lucky but still a dick 🤷
I knew what was going to happen too dance shark attack was in the video title

The majority of shark experts advise not to panic , not to splash, and not to yell showing fear when in the proximity of a shark ...
and yet 😂
Yeah this guy is a goofball. I feel like its staged. Where I grew up as a kid, we were taught to literally do none of what this guy did and he's the 'expert'. It's really a shame that they sold out great whites just for the sake of 'fear' as a sales tactic.
look again Einstein, they use all kinds of tricks to provoke these innocent creatures.
It's fake
There was no real diver in the cage at the time
^ This was absolutely real. The guy who was in the cage was traumatized & does not dive anymore if I’m not mistaken.
The guy was in the water, looking at the shark, mentioning how it had already bumped his cage twice, and then reacts to another bump by saying "What was THAT? Was that a shark?" That is absurdly unconvincing. Looks like the footage was cut together misleadingly. Maybe that bit was shot separately in a misguided attempt to add drama.
