This game reminds of a old arcade game called Robotron 2084. But with EVEN more chaos & bullet hell all over the place. I didn’t even know what was going on half of the time. I know it is a twisted satire of game shows like the Price Is Right if they decided to go all “Murder is what people want in TV” or some crap like that. I also found John Tobias name in the credits. He is the guy that (I think) worked on the first 2 Mortal Kombat Arcade games. I came here because one indie game artist, Dennis Wedin, said that Smash TV was one of the inspirations for him & his friend’s game, Hotline Miami, which he made the pixel art for. (Which FYI, Hotline Miami is nothing like Smash TV.) So I just wanted to check it out & I am glad I did.
Elikeys CDX Smash TV was heavily influenced by the 1987 Arnold Schwartnegger film, The Running Man. You should watch it you get the chance. It's about a futuristic game show where criminals have to fight "stalkers". The real life host of Family Feud back in the day, Richard Dawson, played the main villian as the host of the violent game show.
6:27 Ha, I love the way you both go for the prize even though it's clear only one of you is going to get it. That's the way this game has to be played. I used to love playing this on the SNES with my friend on his huge ass scart TV as kids. Only ever got to play it at the arcade when the carnies came around once a year with the fair. The SNES version was pretty much spot on in all respects. I'm guessing you weren't using twin stick control for this play through though?
Honey I got a new job in show biz. I carry a bat and walk toward a guy with a gun. Wife: sounds like suicide. Don't worry I'm with 50 other guys and Im on the 5th level, nobody ever gets that far...
What's cool about the NES version is it allows you to use the dpad on two controllers giving a similar experience to the dual stick arcade. It also has a pretty impressive amount of enemies onscreen. The game itself definitely isn't as good as SNES or arcade, but considering the limitations of the NES, I would say it's pretty good.
Did you know there is a turbo mode in this game that doubles the speed of the game for the next play through after you beat the game and gives you more lives and credits at the start to offset the crazy speed? To unlock it, you need to find five question mark icons throughout the game: one is in each of the three secret rooms in the game, one is in the Pleasure Dome, (which requires all three secret rooms be reached, 10 keys collected before the room "You Have Enough Keys/You Don't Have Enough Keys," one key collected in the aforementioned room, then take the South exit), and if you do all that, the last question mark icon appears once you beat the final boss, Evil M.C. and get the prizes that appear. Get that to activate turbo mode. BSulpher has a FAQ/walk through up on GameFAQs that explains all this better than I could.
I remember as a kid playing this on what I assume was a collection of classic games on PS1? Because we played crash bandicoot alot too. I remember always barely beating the jungle level
Brilliant, thanks very much. :) The video is now online - ua-cam.com/video/F80HMgdirJQ/v-deo.html It's actually about The Running Man, though I'm sure you get the connection.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get all the keys when I played it in 2 player and I don't expect to be playing the game again any time soon through netplay. If it was completely up to me, perhaps I would give it another try, but this is 2 player and the game is a little longer than others.
One of the Greatest, Challenging, Quarter-devouring Arcade Classics of All-time!
I got this for the SNES and loved it. It was so addicting.
And NES
SMASH TV! One of my favorite arcade games ever! Love how intense the action is!
I hope someday this game gets ported to the nintendo switch, ps4, ps5, Xbox one, and Xbox series X. This game is a classic.
Big Money! Big Prizes! I Love It!!
Great teamwork on this video. Neither of you are greedy but are focused on the goal. Cheers!

very late reply but Smash TV and Robotron share a designer, Eugene Jarvis. A legendary dude!
In the spirit of Robotron, just as addicting an "8 directions + strafe" shooter as you can get, and Total Carnage as well. 🤩
I played this on midway arcade treasures on the ps2 man, the nostalgia.

I was using both joysticks on my Xbox 360 controller. I'm not completely sure if player 2 was using a keyboard or a controller.
48:49 Awwww yeeeaaaahhhh, bring in the honies!!!!!!!! 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

😂
So this was the basis for Total Carnage. Very interesting.
8:22 How many toasters and VCRs does any one person really need to have?
It's a Craigslist dream.
All of them...
Yes.
Have a garage sale to make easy money.
Not just a vcr, a Super VCR! Lol
Coming soon to Netflix with host Jeremy Clarkson
Awwwwwwwww maaaaaaaaaan...I don't know how much I could take it, man. 😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😤
This game picks up where Robotron 2084 left off.
Brand new VCR
Sadly a Betamax.
This went off like The Running Man
this goes to show what sn incredible job was done on the SNES port
Agreed. It's definitely one of the better SNES ports I have played. That said, I think the NES one is pretty impressive too.
@@arronmunroe
I have the NES version downloaded on my PSP but never played it.guess I'll try it now

The SNES port was awesome. Too bad the same can't be said about the music imo...
Watching that was fun.

That's for the SNES version. This is the original arcade version.
I remember as a kid playing this on what I assume was a collection of classic games on PS1? Because we played crash bandicoot alot too. I remember always barely beating the jungle level
Arcade Party Pak on PS1 does include this game.
Which is better the arcade version or the SNES version
I personally think arcade is better, but SNES is still a pretty good port.
Nothing can touch upon the arcade game. It's kinda unfair to compare too. The arcade machine is 32-bit.
Arcade is superior.
Arcade is a lot better, but snes is still pretty fun. :)
This is just like that movie
0:02 *Bingo! Let’s go!*
Great quality!
Shit you took out Mutoid Man out real fast!!
Big Money!, Big Prices!!
Big Danger!!!
Bingo!

Look mix brainaic sheek and hulk face
this game is mixed with contra and touhou at the same time
Hi, Would you mind if I used your Smash TV capture for the backdrop of a video I'm putting together please? I'd make sure you were credited.
Sure, you can use this footage.
Brilliant, thanks very much. :) The video is now online - ua-cam.com/video/F80HMgdirJQ/v-deo.html

Great job, now play through Total Carnage with 2 players and the best ending (all keys)
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get all the keys when I played it in 2 player and I don't expect to be playing the game again any time soon through netplay. If it was completely up to me, perhaps I would give it another try, but this is 2 player and the game is a little longer than others.

I’D BUY THIS FOR A DOLLAR!!!
This game is like pitball
This arcade game inspired the 1987 action film The Running Man
I think you got that a bit backwards. The 1987 action film The Running Man inspired this 1990 arcade game.
13:52 jajaja
That power-up weapon is placed on top of a mine
