Theseus ranting about "a certain bearing" while wearing a goofy mask specifically and canonically created to make him look like an idiot is just so great!
@@floricel_112 Ya but doesn't Heracules become a god? And Achillies IS in the house of hades, not in Elysium (Unless this happened after Achilles and Patrocules side quest) So yeah, Theseus IS the strongest one in Elyisium.

To be fair to Theseus, Being a champion there requires that loud disposition and energy to be entertaining to the stadium. something that probably wouldn't suit zagreus much.
Asterius is constantly in your face in both phases while Theseus plays a more support ranged role in phase 1. It only makes sense to get rid of the aggressive guy, rather than trigger Theseus's phase 2 and cause both of them to be aggresive.
Remember, Theseus abandoned Ariadne on an island, after *she saved him from the maze via her gift of the yarn.* He’s a ‘champion’, so no one was really able to even voice disapproval,(and I think it was considered that she ‘betrayed’ her family by doing that) However, Olympian Gods *are* immortal, and those shades could have been alive around that time too… it could all just be an elaborate deception to jeer him on just to watch his ass get crushed over and over for eternity. I could see Dionysus setting that up for sure. Doesn’t matter if it’s in the past with a god, no one messes with his wife.
And there's other versions of the same myth, one of which has theseus only reluctantly leaving her behind because the gods TOLD him to seeing as dionysius wants her as his. As cool as I think this take of theseus is I prefer the more honorable takes on his myths cause he genuinely is one of the greatest heroes throughout all of his travels, especially in Greece.
Except. There'd no satisfaction. Theseus' smile never falters. He's as confident and theatrical as ever. There's no point to a humiliation when the victim doesn't get the "joke".
As was the Colosseum in real life ancient Rome. Gladiators were very rarely slaves/prisoners fighting to the death. Instead they were normally professional actors fighting staged duels complete with scripted rivalries.
One of my fondest memories of this game was when I gave them the upgrade with the pact of punishment. Walking in there and seeing him look like that, then starting the fight and hearing him laugh manically while shooting those machineguns everywhere was peak comedy
Theseus being so salty with Zagreus makes so much sense when you realise he was originally going to be the protagonist of the game in early concepts but lost out to Zag
After escaping the Underworld and being drawn back in an event that only raises more questions, the Unruly Prince finds a Pact of Punishment, acting as a Challenge Mode. Pretty sure the only reason Theseus is still a champion is so that the shades get to see Zag whoop his ass 😂
so they all pretend to cheer for him so he keeps coming back because they like seeing Zag hand his ass to him, yeah i can buy that
My favorite part is how you can see the shades start to slowly root more for Zag than Theseus over time.

Theseus still can beat every other shade in Elysium
Only because Achilles is too busy training Zagreus and Heracles doesn't care for glory like that

I like that everyone instinctively goes to attack Asterius first. So, that they can later savor destroying Theseus without disturbance.
theirs another reason, its more work to go after theseus first, asterius basicly hands you himself on a plate

@@singerathevampire Yup. Asterius is strong, but slow. Makes it easier to get him first.

Dionysus sends his regards. That makes it even cooler when I set up a full call in that fight to take down second fase Theseus.

The weapon aspects in Hades 1 are so much better and more fun than those in Hades 2
Not when you compare Hades 1 first launch to Hades 2. Then the Hades 2 Early Acsess Weapons seem great.
