  • First time I am changing a PCV Valve on my Wife's Legacy.
It's easy to do. Just need a Flat screw driver and a 19mm ratchet socket with longer Extension arm for leverage to get to it better.
Anyone can do it, so why pay the Dealership. Can order the part on many auto parts stores.

2011 Forester manual says to use red Three Bond, the equivalent of Permatex red thread bond. No way. Sounds like a good way to really cause a problem for future removal. High temperature silicone seal is a better recommendation.

I checked mine a few weeks ago, just got a 2917 Impreza Hatchback. It looked brand new so I just cleaned it out. I didn't have to loosen or remove anything to get to it. I used a long extension with a swivel. Mine is 2.0 (FB20).

I also replaced the PCV valve on my 2009 Forester 3 days ago. It's almost 10 years older than your car, but the engine compartment structure is almost the same...

It was fun trying to get the hose on my X trim Forester and same year as yours.

If yours isn't too rusty then you can just clean it out with brake parts cleaner, acetone or whatever.

A new one cost's ~$20. At that price, I would just go ahead and use a new one.

@@jimroberts6176 Well I am no expert, and the price is cheap enough, but I am not comfortable removing all those parts and tubes, so I plan to try removing the hose and cleaning it with brake parts cleaner. My goal is to improve gas mileage.

Anti seize on the threads would be a good idea...............

Ooops, you're right. I better get it out and lube it and put it back. Thanks. I believe I did on my Stinger when I changed it.

Did you ever go back and put Teflon tape or a liquid sealant on the PCV threads I'm about to change the PCV on my 22 Outback Premium, which is similar. I've seen some people online say it's not necessary to use anything.@@rpmautoreviews9249

Did this help with oil consumption?

@@kirstenmattison5504 I havent paid attention if it did or not.
But I believe it burns less oil with Amsoil oil in it. You can get their oil here.
