I have the same model year. Thanks for an excellent video with complete list info and to the point objective. Kudos for no music to distract.
Thank you. And thanks for not using background music and your calm voice.
Thank you!
Thanks for the video. On my 2015 w/ 2.5L, I found that carefully heating the hose with a heat gun on low allowed the hose to soften, expand and to release from the PCV valve barb. With the top connection pulled off, then with some heat added, you will be able to rotate the lower connection. Next, apply more heat at all sides and then pull up to disconnect. As others have pointed out, the lower end of the hose has become brittle due to thermal cycling. Trying to remove it by mechanical means only will likely create a fracture. Yes, in the best practice the hose should be replaced, but this will get you by on a busy weekend.
Thanks Jim, I've got a 2015 2.5L that just hit 100k and I'll be replacing the PCV valve and hose soon. I'll report back, cheers!
Same story here on a 2013 Suby Impreza 2.0. Top end slid right off, bottom end not so much. When it finally came off after some prying with a flathead screwdriver, it was cracked.
Same exact placement and procedure as my 4th Gen 2.5. The only difference is the pcv hose is shaped differently. Mine is stark straight, with just the little bend at the top. Also, there is no reason to remove the entire intake tubing, unless you just want more room to see. You can easily access the valve with everything else still in place.
Jim, what CVT transmission related maintenance have you done to get to 290,000 miles? Is it's still the original transmission? Have you changed the oil or have you trusted Subaru when they say it's a lifetime oil?
315k now. Changed cvt oil around 215k I believe. Sent in for analysis, Blackstone said it looked pretty good all things considered. Check my videos, I have a cvt oil change walk thru.
@@nappyjim Are you an Uber driver? I have made several 10-hour road trips, I drive 2-3 hours a day including weekends. And I've only reached 87,000 miles in my 2016 Outback. Meanwhile my dad, an Uber driver, has reached 254,000 miles in his Kia Niro in no time.
@@ProjectM97 no. I travel for work. Could be 50 miles a day, or Friday I went 700.
Strange: Saw somewhere on Google or Ytube that Subaru USA says transmission fluid and differentials is good for life, Subaru Canada says change at 100,000 km ( 62,000 miles) and Subaru Japan says 50,000 km. My 17 Outback had it changed around 100k km and is scheduled again next week 172, 000 km.
Was that the first time the PCV has been changed? I'm worried about mine as I've heard it can fail and cause a oil seal blow out I have a 2014 Forester with 73000 miles. I don't believe it's been changed ever.
Curious, why did you replace the PCV valve? Did it have anything to do with oil consumption?
I think I did it cause I felt some hesitation when pressing gas pedal. Oil consumption hasn't really been directly affected by it far as I can tell.
Great video, when should this be done? Just picked up a 2015 outback with 55,000 miles on it
No real hard mileage count to do it. Maybe every 75 to 100k sounds good to me.
Thank you for the vid! I will be changing my 2015 SO too, soon. Did you happened to buy it from the Subaru dealership too? Just curious. Let me know when you get a chance.
All my parts are from Subaru, yes.
Thanks for the video. Do you happen to have the part number for the hose?

@@nappyjim Thanks!
What was the tork on that
Thanks man I also have a 2015, did you say you had over 250,000 On your outback?
Yes. 289,000 miles currently now.
@@nappyjim That’s great however you’re driving it keep it up
Just buy the hose they almost always break
2020 Outback takes a 22mm deep socket.
Hi my pcv valve won't come off, it looks like it's stuck, I tried different sockets and use all my strength. I show it to a mechanic and he couldn't take it off, he doesn't want use an impact and break something. It looks like there is a sealant/paste around the valve, I used WD-40 but no luck yet. Any idea ?
No, sorry. Mine came out pretty easy.
Longer wrench handle - more leverage.
This for a 3.6 or 2.5?
Hi. 2.5
Can't hear you
