The figure is actually a seargent from an intercessor squad able to wield a chainsword. Normal grunts wear a blue helmet and dont have the white kneepad and logo and have plain blue knees while a seargent wears a red helmet and had white kneepad and red skull logo same on shoulder. So if planning to army build these guys you'll need to paint helmets blue and paint kneepads blue to make a normal intercessor grunt.
I have not put this figure down since it came in my mail box yesterday. It has the perfect amalgamation of sci-fi and medieval aesthetics. Ive always adored the Warhammer universe but never really dived into it other than the miniatures. This figure makes me want to go deep into this world!
30 frickin years I’ve waited for a space marine figure. Ever since I played space crusade as a kid. The scale is perfect for what I want. Few more marines and a couple of battle sisters and I will be happy as hell.
Speaking as someone who paid the insane mark-up for one of Bandai's Primaris Intercessors earlier this year- the Mcfarlane one looks nearly as good at a fraction of the price and i'm happy to see the line is off to such a solid start. Any plans to cover the Necron :) ?
Matt McBride I overpaid for the Salamanders marine, but after seeing photos in this guy, it doesn’t seem that bad and I think I’ll get my hands on that one too.
This Mcfarlane space marine figure is already being marked up 50+ dollars on eBay by scalpers. Saw a "deal" of 3 figures, the marine, the necron, and an artist proof marine for 179.99 US... kinda insane how fast that happened. And people are buying them.
CSMs are probably pretty low priority, considering that their initial offering was an Ultrasmurf and Necron to go along with the 9th E box. And factoring in that wave 2 will consist of a Blood Angel and an Adepta Sororitas, it’s probably safe to assume that a Drukhari isn’t too far down the pipeline to coincide with the Piety and Pain box. Mark my words, the next wave after 2 will most likely contain either a random Drukhari or Lilith Hesperax, and a Space Marine of either Salamanders or White Scars because Salamanders have gotten a huge overhaul in 9th or White Scars because dollars to donuts that Jaghatai is coming back sometime soon during the war with the Drukhari.
great review , can't wait to get one. interestingly this version is based on a sgt and not a regular Intercessor.. the give away is the red helmet and red skull pattern in the Marking's if there was a white stripe on the center of the helmet it would make him a veteran sgt
work would be a solid and safe bet. surprised it wasn't an ork as opposed to a necron. But I also suppose that was GW and licensing wanting to promote space marines vs necrons as that was the new edition box set coming out.
This is a brilliant, solid, well articulated WH40K Space Marine action figure by McFarlane - WELL worth the buy. I received mine this week here in Australia (I bought 4 copies) & it stands about 11mm taller than my Bandai Space Marine - I reckon the Bandai is a 6 inch scale while the McFarlane is a 7 inch scale. Comparing to the Bandai Marine: the McFarlane is a VERY heavy figure but with smoother joints, it has a very matte plastic finish vs the shiny Bandai. The joints work very well, but with LESS articulation points than the Bandai, the latter has a better "range" of movement in most joints. Bandai has VERY good ankle rocker & toe articulation vs minimal with McFarlane. Bandai also has articulated hip armour parts on ball pegs while the McFarlanes are fixed. McFarlanes Marine still has sufficient articulation which is VERY impressive for the sculpt & "does the job" + the low US$20 pricepoint. TIP - heat the hands in hot water before fitting the accessories to avoid breakage. Hey Toy Bro - It ALSO has a WAIST swivel & the RED helmet denotes a Sergeant. THANKS for the solid review, please do the Necron next !
I’ll say, I didn’t think McFarlane was doing thay good with their DC releases, but the figs have gotten better and better. I like a lot of their last releases.
The quality definitely has gotten better and better ever since the White Knight line. I swear every figure he releases improves from the last one, it's like they look at what works and what didn't to the previous release and improve it for the newer lines.
Higgs Voidout totally agree, the white knight batman is really cool, and I usually like the more realistic looking figs. That new WW they showed looks outstanding, and so did the robin.
They are too hard to acquire at the moment. You'd be better off using a black series figure. All you really need is articulation and some nice looking boots, because the rest of the figure will be covered in a custom trench coat anyways, and a custom head to go with it.
My first figure like this. I spent about 10 mins trying to get the sword into the grip, afraid I would deform or break the plastic. Thank you so much for saying to heat up the hand. Held it in front of a fan heater for 60 seconds and it slipped into the grip no problem.
More McFarlane scaling problems here. WH 40K game lore has space marines at 7 to 8 ft. tall which puts this figure more in the 6 inch range, which I don't mind I collect mostly 6 in. figs., but the Battle Sister they just announced shows it also being 7 in. and in game lore they are 5 to 6 ft. tall so these are already greatly out of scale with in it's own line.
I wonder if that little shield emblem on the should would come off easily. Been thinking about grabbing this guy and the red one, swapping the heads and taking some details off to make a regular grunt
He's Primaris which is much taller than standard Space Marine. Even if we take him as a standard SM he still should be at least 2 heads taller than ML. And do not forget that's Mcfarlane figure from their 7 inch scale line.
I just received mine and it’s bad ass. I’m gonna get one more lol and I just picked up 2. I was hesitant until u held it in hand. He’s stocky and very detailed. Hope they keep going with this line he can stomp a mud hole in anyone’s face lol.
I wish they're a bit larger. Ordinary Space Marines are 7', while the Primaris ones are around 8.5'. they scale much better with Japanese 1:12 figures, though, and still work well with Marvel Legends scale.
Despite my hatred to the ultrasmurfs and the heretical primaris I'm going to buy this and display him next to my sister of battle cause of the 9th edition trailer plus thanks to 3d printer I could 3d print the shield in the trailer
Seems worth 20 for the most part. I would like to see what value can be developed for 10 dollars more. More detailed paint? I'd prefer just a few better joints for 10 dollars. Just more range in the forward leg swing, higher shoulder motion. Basically all I want. Honestly, I think I'll take the Bandai one instead. I like being able to pose what I buy.
Ooh, if only it had ankle rockers, I'd say the articulation was ideal. So close! I just wish that most of them were available outside of the US (stupid US retailer exclusives...). 😓
