Demo Sly looks like me every morning before the coffee
When you realize Sly's voice changed just like Cole's voice in inFAMOUS 2. Both of them started with a Batman kind of voice. XD
i can see why since both of them look to be HEAVILY inspired by comics.
Sly's VA could actually make a decent Batman or another obscure DC character
But Cole sounded like he needed a coughdrop in InFAMOUS 1.
@Nut Shack234 the last traces we got to that were the infamous cutscenes.
I love how early version Sly's dialogue make him sound like a hardass in comparison to the latter version. The final version's voice direction makes him sound a lot more easy-going and optimistic.
Did Sly had a different voice actor in the demo version before the role was officially given to Kevin Miller in the final retail version?
@@edmartinez925 You may have found your answer, but yeah he had a different VA in this demo.
I like how the original dialog suggests that Sly only recently learned how to climb a ladder.
What's interesting is in another demo, they suggest he learns his climb move from *The Panda King*.
I like how many things are different but Bentley is like “I am immune baby”
I do love Sly in the final game, but I do like this characterization of him too. He's a bit more of a sarcastic asshole, but it's also clear he's happy to help reassure his friends when they have doubts and stuff (see the searchlight conversation). His voice is also a deal raspier too, which I think fits this version. Kevin Miller fits the one we got best though.
"I'f you're shocked, I'm shocked... Now what're we shocked about...?" I love this dialogue style. I wish they kept it in.
The coins with Sly's face on them are in the final/ retail version of the game in the final level.
Demo Sly sounds like he wants to terminate FOXDIE
Shows how much a 5-6 month difference can make
Just wanted to say this is very well put together video! Concise and very enjoyable.
Thank you! I appreciate it
Better a cute combustion than an ugly one!
Sly is perma-smug, and crab twin stick shooting is a rip-off.
I nearly died from hearing sly say that
I love how sly sounds creepy in the demo but peaceful on the final version
Was there a reason to recast for the character
Wait...that symbol on the clue in the demo...it looks like a tinker token from Rocket: Robot on wheels!
I managed to snag a copy of this demo about 2 years ago on ebay for 20$, it's a neat collectors item and interesting to look at compared to the final game.
That's a great price(atleast compared to what they sell for these days), and definitely a great collectable. Nice!
I took a look at the Coins in, a daring rescue, and sure enough, the Coins were used in beta, AND the final country.
I wonder if Treasure In The Depths was originally called Rip Off because it shares similar elements to the Cinematronics arcade game of the same name. Kind of a long shot, but it seems possible.
I know this comment is 4 years old but they mention this game by name in the cut developer commentary for this level! So u are absolutely correct !!!
@@ultra-vivi they probably renamed it because there is a ps1 game called treasures of the deep where you play as a yellow submarine, it looks similar to slys mini game
I actually like Sly's demo voice.
Holy crap this means a lot to me Sly Cooper was my first video game ever that I played
14:04 I wonder what that could be a reference to. Could there be a game, or a level from another game starting with VW that’s similar to the submarine level that they were inspired by?
UW stands for underwater. All levels from the first episode start with it. If you have watched the "Sly Evolution" video you will know that this episode was supposed to be all underwater. So they just never changed the file naming.
As for Rip Off, according to VGA Guy in the comments, it is an arcade game that has similar elements
Yes to add to it in one of the unused commentaries unlocked by the time attack one of the level designers admits he was inspired by the classic arcade game Robotron 2084. And when he saw another developer playing the game itself he noticed they would mainly shoot in a circle rather than move around freely so he borrowed another arcade game's mechanic called Tempest and put a rock in the middle where the key is being held in the underwater level.
The symbols on the bottles seem to be taken from Rocket:Robot on Wheels; They look like Tinker Tokens.
Here we are 20 years later glad to know that level is called rip off xD
Fun fact I read that Murray was originally going to be bisexual not kidding or joking either.
James Robinson that might explain his desire to cross dress in thieves in time
@@PowerPuffBoysZ it doesn't
That section was.... Uncalled for
Bruh moment
@@PowerPuffBoysZbeing bisexual is not connected to cross dressing
@@crangejoit was fine
This is very cool to see! My favorite change is Sly's voice. I find it to be weirdly funny for some reason
Oh god the demo Sly is so salty :"D
For those curious, the pink guards and "wrench coin" model on the bottles are both placeholders lifted from their previous game.
What about Carmelita Fox?
Thouse clue bottles‚ don't they look similar to Sly 4's clue bottles?
6:53-6:59 There's that Sly Cooper Demo Photographer/Sly Cooper Photo Lady
Duuude yeah zig and zag, they got cut in the end of development
So wait, there's no end screen? No end point to say "Great Job, now go get the game"? They just put up an invisible wall? That's kinda lame
That's some nice ASMR lol
Demo Sly sounds like he’s trying to do a Shadow The Hedgehog voice lol
Where on earth did you find this demo? Is there an emulator version, or did you have to wait for a copy to appear on eBay (or any website like that)?
You can find a .iso of it online fairly easily.
And it usually on ebay too yeah
Sly sounds like Batman
Sound like grandpa creepy voice
It is honestly impressive how Sly has so many unused beta lines diffusing Bentley's anxiety. Really shows they tested this stuff up and down the street!
something really wierd in the sly collection is the sounds of the cane hitting the vault and the rinckling of the paper are completely removed! no idea why,
I like sly’s early model a lot
Anyone else notice that the all the guards (who happen to be a walrus) all have the same skin color as the walrus from Rocket: Robot On Wheels in the beta/prototype builds?
Demo Sly sounds like he has a motorcycle stuck in his throat.
Have you noticed when you play the mini game where you have to protect Murray from the thugs as soon as sly mounts the turret, his model changes?
man thank god they removed all of those tutorials, i enjoyed a lot more playing around by myself with the controllers specially since sly cooper has some of the best character control that i have ever experienced in a videogame.
Sly sounds like Wolverine in the demo.
I kinda wish the they kept the dollar signs, I think that's a neat touch.
The checkpoint used to be a girl in a chest? I wonder if she used to be a member of the crew? Nah, can't be, otherwise that sort of thing would be more well known trivia, still I wonder what the idea is here, it'd be one thing if it were Murry in there, but an Arabian looking girl is very strange. Maybe it was a tourist trap thing and they'd be in a different outfit for each location? But then, there was never an Bagdad type level planned for this game, so, I don't know what to say.
From what I researched, she was supposed to be a reporter obsessed with getting shots of Sly in action for the Big scoop.
In other words essentially just Carnelita as a reporter instead of a cop.
Thinking about it, I believe this reporter character is supposed to work with a partner if I remember right, perhaps they would switch between checkpoints.
@@gamefan56 @Gamefan56 And I bet she'd be hiding in something different each time, that would've been pretty cool, but it makes a lot of sense why she got cut out from the story. It's pretty interesting. Thanks for the answer, can't say I was really expecting to get one.
Say! I bet she's the one who took all those photos for the newpapers you see after the beat the bosses and wrote them too.
@@d-manthecaptain1382 that is a interesting point, I´ve always found it weird how quick the press where to take those pictures for the newspapers on the spot given how out of place a lot of the villians hideouts were, so the pictures being related to that cut character actually makes a lot of sense the more I think about it.
@@gamefan56 Maybe she still exists, she just got way better at hiding, Ha!
Y’know…some of this cut dialogue makes things in the game make A TON more sense
The voice of Sly Cooper Demo sound like "Grandpa creepy voice"
I farted
Demo sly sounds like he is a bad guy who is using his friends
I’m glad Murrary doesn’t sound like a gay stereotype in the final game but there’s a better of making it clear he’s Bi, being subtle in other aspects that isn’t his voice 😅
tbh I kinda love E3 Sly, he's more of an asshole but it's kinda great
Do you recall how you got past the barrier if so i would love a video on that
Sly’s voice at 6:00 sounds like he just finished smoking a fat one lol
February 14/5th 2020 ah memories
Also very important, his Voice is much better, Not whispering, more cool.
can we appreciate that e3 demos back then used to be worse than the actual game rather than the other way around like it is nowadays???
also bently was kinda of a jerk in the early demo
I don't like the voice cooper demo i prefer final version
how do i get this to work without crashing?
Minds Me Demo from official u.s PlayStation magazine issue 62 Tony Hawk Pro skater 3 and sly cooper
1:38 Lol
10:30 The retail version still gives you an extra life but only if you have a golden charm
Would be cool if you can unlock levels on all demo disc of Sly, maybe you can play some levels!
The only level that i managed to unlock on a Sly 1 demo was Paris. Uploaded a video on how to get it yesterday.
About Sly 2, i already got a lot of missions to play on the E3 demo disc(including one that was scrapped).
And i am now working on Sly 3. Already uploaded a video of beta/early Venice :)
I have already watch Paris level and early Venice, that's amazing!
If E3 demo of Sly 1 don't have all levels of Raleigh's, it's possible another demo disc of Sly 1 have all Raleigh's levels and they just need to unlock for play?
I have checked all pre-release Sly 1 demos. None of them contains "hidden" levels(other than paris in the jampack demo of course). The retail demos that came out after the game's release might have some, but it wouldn't matter because they would be the same levels are those in the game.
Search for Monaco level lmoa, it must be hidden in the very depths of Sly games xd
I already have. Nothing...
Petty cool
Acute... a cute... oh, math puns.
Wish they still handed out demo discs like the old days, but it's probably far easier (and less risky) to have people download the demo versions instead.
Those pink guards look like the walrus in Rocket Robot on Wheels
I actually prefer this Sly's dialogue and voice more.
Can you do a video on the earlier builds
I m afraid this the earliest build that's avaliable at the moment. If an earlier build gets dumped and released, you bet I will.
Solid Sly
download ?!
No french for NTSC :(
So whered you get all of these early builds if you dont mind im super curious cool stuff
I like the style of early sly’s dialogue. It’s a lot more “thief-like” and sneaky 😈
Sly sounds like a chainsmoker lmao
