Is it recommended to always move horizontally?
great review! i just started using the level 5 blades last week to cover texture. in the past, i used my concrete finishing trowels, but they’re no so ergonomic on ceilings and they don’t accept handles lol. i’ve found that an 18” roller works well for application because they’re supported on both sides and less prone to bending. thank you and keep up the great videos
I got some 18 in rollers. Might use my abused naps for that. The 9 inch for painting or applying mud does flex a little. Not a big deal. But as if with paint, the more area you can cover without it skinning up the better.
Love this!
Thanks for putting this video out. I am in the process of skim coating over some textured walls and this video couldn’t have come at a better time.
Thank you again for the great content you put out.
So glad it helps!!
I looked into getting a set of level5 blades and they are insanely expensive!! I know you get what you pay for, and if I was doing this for a living I would get the best. I like getting the best quality tools for anything. I found the Dewalt knives at home depot to be awesome! There are a few different styles but what I bought is one stainless steel piece, no edges to get mud stuck and dried up. I love'em. A bit pricey but yeah you get what you pay for! This was a great review video, and good luck on everyone's projects!! 😁🙋♂️
Need to get me one of those skimming blades...great video Shorty
I bought these type of blades in dewalt brand and love using them
Hi very good job you are doing... The coater and the finish of a house before the painter
Decent skimming blades if you can keep the blades from sliding out. They are three times the cost of similar blades which include the storage case.
Skimming blades are best for floating and residential level 5 ing though by then it's well more than 5 levels
Excellent thank you
Great works here reviewing
In this video, that you are working top down. Which side if any are you putting more/less pressure on when using that skimming blade?
Great job
Good job
Any tips on how to handle overlapping swipes with thr blade? Do you angle it at all? It seems like youre going flat and feeling it out based on pressure or something subtle.

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊
How do you change the blade?
can this be used for concrete walls or is it only for drywall?
U can work 4 me any time Simpson Drywall and Painting rocking and rolling for 38 years
Neat
are the metal versions much better than the composite? I would be using infrequently.
I did too big of an area and the mud started to dry, can a second coat fix it?
👍👍👍
I love you ❤️
How does one paint after this..what nap or just spray it? I did a level 5 with the 48 and used a 1/4 nap but I still see stipple.
I have to skim a whole house here soon, as part of a Reno project.
Do you suggest working from the top down, or walls > ceiling?
Ceilings first then top down on walls 👍
@@DrywallShorty thanks so much!
Can you do it with different nap rollers?
Sure can, level5 just came out with one designed for mud
I love you ❤❤❤
It would be nice to be able to do that over existing textured walls and it come out looking that great on the first pass 🤦♂️
Sometimes it can! I would suggest sanding as much texture as you can off before coating. It will almost always take 2-3 coats especially over knockdown or a heavier texture but sometimes you can get away with one.
Drywall Specialist has learned a few things about drywall from Drywall Shorty! I put a link to her videos on my website!
Just read the definitions for the levels of drywall finishes. What is the point of/when would a level 5 be necessary? Level 4 is what 99% of walls are. Does level 5 have a functional purpose?
Glancing light
Drywall board has a paper face that is typically made out of recycled paper. It's got a bit of a fine texture to it and when you apply drywall compound on top of it, it makes it smooth. When doing a smooth wall in areas with a lot of light, you can see the difference between the raw drywall paper and the smooth mud. You then can level 5 the entire area to make a smooth consistent finish with no differences between the mud and the paper.

Is this assuming your not gonna paint the wall with a nap roller?
@@JohnSmith-xu7ev It’s assuming you are going to paint the wall.
