I bought a 24 inch Levels to use on my son's 1916 bone remodel and it has worked out great for me. Oh, and the shoulders thing is nothing to mess with I'm 60 and just had to get an MRI done for a torn tendon so protect what you got. I like what the Dr told me, he said you have so much time so much money and just so much tendon how do you want to spend it
I am the expert at doing things the wrong way and getting good results. I had to do a ceiling that my kids half scraped off the original ceiling texture. I told them not to do it but they did and they got tired and quit as expected. I can't afford the thousand dollar fancy dustless sander so I had to sand with a pole and an orbital sander in short intervals so I wouldn't suffocate. To finish the ceiling I had to patch by hand with a trowel or blade or whatever you call it. Then sand. Then fix all the divots. And sand. Then I painted it. And once painted THEN you see all of the flaws you couldn't see when it was white and powdery. So I patched with the soft pink stuff that dries white and sanded again. And painted again. That pink stuff saves me on so many projects. I can't skim, but get the job half done and sanded then patch with the pink stuff and it's as good as it gets. I finally finished the crooked hallway wall that was put in by the drunk guy. Perfectly flat from corner to corner. The walls perfectly line up with the door frame and the access door to the attic. You would never know it's a half inch or more off from one side to the other. But even after I thought it was perfect and painted, all of the divots that were full of dust emptied out onto the paint roller and left tiny craters all over. More patching with the pink stuff. Another coat of paint and perfect! The next huge project will be to fix the walls in the bonus room over the garage. I did all of the drywall there and every single seam has cracked. But thanks to your videos I know how to fix that. I always learn something useful from your videos, even if I can't make 100% use of it!
I here you on the lighter tools especially on the ceiling. I'm the same way with drills and impacts, need a smaller battery so I don't fatigue as quickly.
I haven't had to skim a ceiling yet, I do aft to skim walls quite frequently (usually filling in doorways on old houses ) and I built my own. It's 48" wide & i put 2 handles on it at the 1/4 points. It works great. I've only had one ceiling to fix & this thing was way to big and as any old carpenter/drywaller will tell you, the shoulders and neck are the 1st thing to go.
After using traditional skimming trowels and coating knives for over 20 year I recently bought one of those made by L'OUTIL PARFAIT. Only thing I regret now is that I didn't do it earlier. Surface finish is much better, I put much less effort in skimming and work is done much faster. The shortest blade is perfect for patching.
Yep I really like the skimming blades I have some tomahawks and some beroex the original version the tomahawks are built better but the plastic beroex are so light and nice to use. I trace behind my 12" almost know sanding don't trace after 10"
DUDE!!!! You are sooooo! dropping the ball. You should be doing videos on how to tape while using a skateboard. Run tape in one pass with like a Banjo. Think about do the ceiling n stilts while skateboarding. (keep 911 on speed dial though) only in basements and on the first floor until you get the hang of it.
Enjoyed this video - always great content. Any plans on a video detailing drywall repair of those retrofit electrical wire/box openings in the background? Cheers.
Good evening Ben. May I ask what sort of roller you use to apply the compound to the ceiling please. Is it a specialised roller or an off the shelf a painters roller made of wool or similar. Many thanks.
Im torn...I need to skim my living room ceiling due to a multitude of issues and I am dreading it. This definitely would make that easier but ceiling work hurts my neck a lot, not sure i could handle anything bigger than the 18" blade!
Off topic question: Where in the states can you purchase acoustic sealant for vapor barrier, or is this just a Canadian product? I can't find it at the big box stores. Thanks anyone!!
Looks like that specific product is Canada-only. Just about any acoustic sealant will do the trick. There’s one from Liquid Nails, Titebond, and I’m sure there are others.
@@satchmolady related FYI- Lepage is OSI in the states. I know I’ve seen Ben, and also Home Renovision use Lepage products a lot. OSI has the same product lines. Quad, Quadmax, Draft&Acoustic sealant, etc.
Ben.... I just want to say that I really appreciate watching your content. Thanks for all the knowledge you share.😘

I've had this for a while. It's pure awesome
The 24 inch is just perfect. I got mine with the tactical set and it’s a sand destroyer. Flat and a few lap lines. Thanks Ben
I got a 24"and 32" I've only used the 24 and it's great they are so useful make things so much better
Thank you Ben for your great videos. You right, I'm using level 5 skimming blades 16 and 24 inches it's the best for skimming ceilings.

I have the Marshalltown 24" version. I love it.

I liked how you kept it short and sweet. Good job
Thank you!

What size did you buy.?
@@Jimmy_Cavallo I've bought the set containing of 25, 35, 45, 60, 80, 100 cm knives plus an extension pole.
I have the taketec set with the 48 inch blade and love it ... great for skimming after removing popcorn
Dang! 48" You're a BEAST!
Great video
Great review. The more I use skimming blades even for patches I realize they save enormous amounts of time and up the quality with less effort.
Is it because of the wider pass you can with skimmer blades?
Agree! Love my Tape Techs 32 and an 18. I can make anything on this planet flat and gorgeous!
Do you need to apply mud on all over the drywall? or in the drywall connections using paper tape only prior to prime and paint.?
Yep I really like the skimming blades I have some tomahawks and some beroex the original version the tomahawks are built better but the plastic beroex are so light and nice to use.

Mantop 👍 You're the best !!
We use a high build primer that is sprayed on for level 5 smoothwall jobs
I'm super strong but I can confirm working overhead you get that WTH did I do yesterday pains in neck and shoulders...
what size do u reocmend for one blade for a behienner? do u need extension pole?
Wow! Awesome skimming set. Yeah the 32 will be kinda hard to balance but better for walls using two hands
Works great with the pole. Use it all the time.
Prior to skimcoating, do you need to primer over painted surfaces?
Hey try that 12" in a closet space you will find a new appreciation for it.

Colombia makes the best tools 🛠
Would they work for mud framing and filling larger gaps or only for skimming?
Thanks

Cool 👍👍
Hi Ben half way through the ceiling I remembered feather your edge I haven’t been watching you lately mostly pine hollow

check out the Loop Texture Roller on amzn 👍
(LINZER PRODUCTS RC 119 0900 Paint-Rollers, 9" x 3/8" is the one)
Cool Man
To tighten and loosen the Tomahawk skimmer locking lever all you have to do is turn the lever clockwise to tighten an counter clockwise to loosen it .
I would use that case for my warhammer 40k models XD
I use 18s and 24s behind my sprayer
I am your new subscriber ..Can you tell me how to treat Damp walls..???
So 24 would be good for walks and ceilings
Didn’t even know these existed
I prefer the 54mm / 101a spitfire classic ….oh wrong Ben channel 😂🙏🏻

Get into a rhythm and do as much of the pass while looking straight ahead. Don’t gawk at your blade if not necessary.
👍
I wish you were in Toronto 😕 😞

How much and where did you get them? Sorry if you answered these questions in the video, my wife have music on and it was hard for me to hear.
Just search for Columbia Tomahawk. They will come up.
Watch another video on how to do properly...I love this...🤣
24 inch is better for new style columbia tomahawk , new grip also comes equipped with a safety latch for handle attachment
I find ceilings to be easier then walls, with a 32.. no door ways , trim, outlets.. I usually get for voidz on the walls some reason 😆
👍🏽👍🏽
Free rifle case!
32" is a darby
yea no its not
Ignore the 'heroes'. Normally, they can't do this level of work......
dont u make skate vids lmao
