How to Save/Render video files in Blender 2.79

- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- Since the release of blender 2.79 I've had a few emails asking pretty much the same thing, "what happened to H.264?" So I thought I would make a quick video showing you how you can save/render out your movie clip or animation as a Video File.
#b3d
"then go ahead and render" > Doesnt show how to render, noice
Ah yeah..
If you want to render a still image you can either hit the "Camera" Icon (it says Render) or press f12. To render as a video you can hit the "Clapboard" Icon (the one next to the camera it says animation) or press Ctrl + f12
Since this video is an update for those who already know how to render something I didn't think to add that part, my bad :/ ..
spend 2 minutes looking and you'd find it. Great video by the way
@@DarkfallBlender THanks, this is what I came for
@@madheadproductions Lol, glad you think so!.. Cheers for the comment..
@@enkiimuto1041 No problem! I am glad you found it helpful.. 😀
THANKYOU SO MUCH!!! After searching for answers for hours I found this video I can now finally upload it!!!
:) No problem!.. I was the same when It changed.. It left me in a state of WTF.. lol..Anyway, Glad It helped..
@@DarkfallBlender I've literally just started learning to edit so it was a major curveball. so many tutorials, couldn't find any for recent haha
It can be a pain especially when changing things around.. Don't get me started on 2.8 lol... Anyway good luck with your project..
@@DarkfallBlender thank you! you got any videos on speeding up your movie clips? I'm struggling real bad and yet again, no helpful things online for it let alone this version hahaha. and thank s i'm gunna need it. Started youtube a week or two ago and damn, now I've opened up the editing can after being tired of pressing pause/start on xsplit to cut the scenes as I did it... I wish I hadn't :') hahah
You can speed up clips in the VSE (video Sequence Editor) but honestly I hardly use Blender as an Editor anymore..
For simple things like speed up/slow down you can get away with programs like Windows Movie Maker (though it's rather limited for a lot of things). I know OBS has a "Studio Mode" but I have not used it, I just use OBS for either Streaming or Recording. There are hundreds of other programs that give you the basic tools also. A lot of the time I use Win Mov Maker to edit, cut, Voice over ect.
I've noticed though that it (for no reason at all) adds a lot of red to the Video. Strange..
I was so triggered because i couldnt find a good video but this was perfect
I think a few people were annoyed with the change, Glad it helped!..
I'm just experimenting with animating lights for making animated gifs and this was super helpful!!
I am glad to be of help 😃 thanks for the comment!
This solved my problem. I had to put my video into file format .mp4 instead of .mkv I was trying to put the .mkv file into the video player in unity after I imported it and it would not accept it for some reason. The problem was just finding the correct file format. Thank you!
Hey Tim, glad this helped!.. I know what you mean, I used to use mkv but then I had problems with other programs being able to play the file so I would then have to convert it.. since then I always use H.364 in Mp4 format as a preset, it has never let me down and works well with the places I upload to.
Im sure there are some situations where other file formats would be better suited but again I think the preset I use works well..
Anyway thanks for your comment!..
nice.
👍
Thanks so much. :) Keep up the great work. :)
Hey Andrew thanks for the comment! I appreciate the support :)..

No problem! I'm Glad it helped!..
Than you. You're a life saver
No problem! I am glad it helped..👍
Has anyone worked out how to change the bit rate in 2.79? I find the default 6000 makes for huge file sizes and isn't really perceptibly better than around 2000, but the options seem to be ghosted out no matter what combination of codecs and containers I try.
Plus, 2.79 doesn't seem to detect my GPU, so I have to use CPU rendering. I know it's not a driver issue or anything because 2.78 still works fine. Has anyone else encountered this issue, and were you able to resolve it?
omfg thank you so much render saver
Hey thanks for the comment!..
Thanks so much Bro
Hey, No problem.. Thanks for watching!..
I've literally followed these steps 3 times. It's a file format my computer apparently cant read. Weird thing is, when I find an application that can play it, it opens up like any video should, but nothing plays.. Its weird. For something that takes about 2 hours to render, you'd think it would actually play. Is there a standard file format that basic computers are able to play? The menu's here are confusing me, and it seems this "MKV" doesn't work. Never even seen an MKV file before so its beyond me..
Hey Christian, So when you try and play the video what application do you use? it should work with windows media player. As for Matroska or MKV - "Matroska aims to become THE standard of multimedia container formats. ... It is NOT a video or audio compression format".. I prefer mp4.. For me I go to encoding then select presets and choose H.264 in mp4.. this will play in many applications and they are the settings I use for all my videos..
As for your 2hr render, you could try and cut down render time with some tips : ua-cam.com/video/-5hljyEsxSI/v-deo.html
I'm currently rendering something that is taking 50hrs So I know how it feels to spend time rendering and then finding out it somethings broken lol..
When i go to render my video it just renders and saves a grey cube.
In your render Panel, Go all the way down to the section "Post Processing" and see if you have "Compositing" and "Sequencer" Enabled. I think you may need to enable your Sequencer. Once you have that, hit f12 or the render button and you should be good..
@@DarkfallBlender Did that, output is still just a cube, i loaded a clip into the movie clip editor and did tracking stabilizing on it, cant figure out how to export it now
Hmm Strange.. You could just go to the Node Editor, Switch to the scene Tab and then Delete the Render Layer, Add your movie clip, add a Stabilization node and plug that into the output node..
@@DarkfallBlender I fixed it in the node editor! Thanks for the help!
Ah ok.. Good luck with your project!..
i did everything, but when i watch it back (in VLC) the music is there, the clips but not the sound of those clips!
i haven't seen anyone ask about this in the comment but pls help me
Does the video work in Windows media player? You could try changing the Encoding Preset..
I don't even have that "output" tab on the side. I wish tutorials would dumb it down for noobies like me..
If you have no output then "dumb it down a bit" wouldn't help... What do you see instead of the Output tab?
@@DarkfallBlender If you showed us how to navigate to the output tab would have been helpful. I found it after clicking around but you seem to be using an older version of the program in the video anyway. The program is very overwhelming for new users.
@@InfoRanker in all fairness this video was to show people from a previous version the new steps.. I guess i didn't take into consideration "new users" at the time.. Most of my videos are aimed at those who have used blender for a little while.. I will try to remember this when I make new videos 😉
lul, i didn't know that, i was rendering all in png, now i have more than 1000 images of my video hidden somewhere in my computer, and i have no idea where they are.
Lol, not to worry.. When you open up Blender and go to the Render panel, you can see that under the Resolution settings, there is a section labeled "Output".. It tells you exactly where you are saving your images. so open up blender and check the output..
Lots of people like to render out in PNG or JPEG images in a separate folder then convert that image sequence into a video file..
Next time you go to render always make sure you set the output and know where your work is being saved to..
@@DarkfallBlender haha i did that before i watched your video. Thanks!
lmao same
how to save? i want to save it in my computer but you just went only over rendering... what?
edit: the instructions are just a bit vague to me thats all im trying to say
You want to save the project file? Just hit Ctrl+S and it will open a window so you can save it.. This tutorial is about rendering video files. I'm not sure which part is vague but feel free to ask and I will try and clarify whats causing you some trouble..
@@DarkfallBlender I have this same but different problem. I am running blender on windows and when I save this as a file it saves as [insert name here].blender and I don't know where to run it?
@@somuchpi2916 You mean you pressed Ctrl + S to save the project file? If you press it again then look above where it says "Untitled" it will tell you where you saved it too..
@@DarkfallBlender I get that part but I don't know what to run it on I guess. I'm using windows so I don't know if I should run in on movies and Tv or...
I'm sorry but I am still not sure what you mean.. Do you mean to play the rendered video?.. If you choose the FFMPEG file type, then Make sure you choose the Encoding and use the Preset h.264 in MP4 format then render that out.. It will run or Play in most programs like Window media player ect..
Now I need to know where rendered files are stored.
@ 0:08 you can see the mouse is hovered over a section called Output. You just need to change the output to be where ever you want or look and see where your renders are being stored.
Thank you!!!
Thanks to you for watching :)..
when I try to render, or export, it doesn't render the color I have in my objects, it just shows it as it would be in solid object mode, any help? it would be appreciated
Hey Ian,
so you have set up a 3d scene and also added the Materials for your objects but when you hit render, the materials are no longer there?.. It's hard to say what it is without more information. Could you post a couple of screenshots here> facebook.com/DarkfallMedia/
Hey, i made a quick water animation by watching a video in youtube but when finished it and went to save it took a very long time around 3-4 hours i have waited but nothing happened it only saved around 20 photos in the selected folder... What am i supposed to do now?? Help me
Hey, so this video tutorial you followed, did it show you how to render out your Animation? Also 3-4 Hours is not really long depending how detailed your water sim, what engine you use to render and so on..
So you say there are only 20 photos in your project folder?. Well in this video I show you how to render it out as a Video file.. As for your problem, since I have no idea what you have done during the tutorial (which I also don't know) it's hard to guess what could be the problem..
thanks
No problem, I'm glad it helped!..
But how do I get the video as an mp4 file?
@ 0:11 we change it to an FFMPEG Video and then you need to choose the encoding as we did in this video.
@@DarkfallBlender blender is being weird with me, I did this and the file does not show up at all.
@@enkiimuto1041 Have you double checked where you rendered the video to?. Check where you have set the output for the video and then check that folder. Most times, it has been set to your temp folder (unless you have changed it)
Please make simple video on small project in which showing the rendering
I have done many projects along with showing how to render. This video was made specifically due to a certain change in the update. Creating a project just to show the new way seemed pointless.
Bro i have strated using blender recently and i just know the basics but i couldnt even figure out from where doea this screen to save the video opens...help
there is no "screen" as you can see in this video you have to choose the correct settings.. Make sure you know where the destination folder is.. Then you press Animation in the render panel and then it will begin to render out your video..
I think he means the options he has on the left aren’t there when you load the program up fresh. How about explaining how to get that setting to show up for. Your giving directions yet no where to start from
"How about explaining how to get that setting to show up for".. What options on the left?.. also this is standard, all option features and settings are there as standard.. When you load up blender you will be in 3d view, in this video I am using the video sequence editor but they are the same process..
@@joec.8963 definitely bro❤
i tried rendering but my animation turns out black and white. I clicked rgb but it still renders black and white?
nvm i fixed it. Just clicked out of my project and clicked back into blender.
Lol, crazy bug.. Glad you sorted it out!..
I did the steps above but it still says cannot open file for writing: No such file or directory =(
Hmm a strange one.. I had a look online and there is hardly any info on this error.. I did find one post that suggested this,
"In properties window, go to "Output" tab. Find "Output" heading within that tab. Check the "File Extensions" box (which is below the Output save path entry)."
Hopefully this will fix your issue.. If it does not, you might have better luck posting your problem in a Blender Forum..
mine doesnt render the entire video something with the lighter grey section i cant change
Do you mean the Timeline?.. You may just need to increase the Frame range. In your render panel, scroll down and you will see the Frame Range section. Start Frame, being 1 and End frame would need to be increased to the desired length.
@@DarkfallBlender Ok got it thanks!
I don't have the box on the left with all of that stuff, and I am using 2.79 anyway I can bring it up?
The box on the Left? could you be more specific? or post a screen shot in our facebook group?
@@DarkfallBlender The box on the left with metadata, output, and all of that stuff
You mean the Render Panel on the right?.. Could you take a screenshot and post it here: facebook.com/groups/darkfallblender
@@DarkfallBlender sorry, yes the one on the right. I don't have facebook but it just doesn't show the panel
Oh ok.. I'm not sure how you have done that.. Well just split the window (so at the top right, click and drag to the left then you will have two vertical windows) and then change that new window to a Properties window..
Then you can split it again (this time you want a Horizontal one in that new window you created) and change that to an outliner...
MAke sure you go to file then "save start up file" or else you will have to keep adding that window..
Also I think if you you go to File then reset to Factory defaults that would work too..
BUT I DONT HAVE THAT BOX
What box?.. You mean the Presets?.. What version of Blender are you using?.
@@DarkfallBlender Likewise, the box bottom right with "output" on it, I don't have it. If I did I could actually save my rendered video into something recognisable as a,,, video I guess. Its obviously an interface thing. I am in the Video Sequence Editor version 2.77
Hey NoFaith,
In this video I am using the version 2.79b.. its the latest build.. I would install that and re open your project..
my files save as a .blender@ and i want them to save as something else how do i do that?
What would you like to save it as?
@@DarkfallBlender Still replying 2 years later.. Nice bro
If someone takes the time to leave a comment, I should take the time to reply.. Channels like Blender Guru must get hundreds of comments daily.. Where as I get a manageable amount 😄
thanks but you need to start from first corning up your blender file
Eh say what?..
Darkfall he said you need to start by opening up you blender file. You start the video at a point we cannot figure out how to get to after uploading the video.
@@Yeer718 I started from the VSE (video sequence editor) but this is the same way to render if you was using the 3d view. I decided not to start anywhere specific for that very reason.. It doesnt matter where you start from, this is how you render out your final video.. This was a request from a users who already know how to use blender. It was not intended for beginners..
how do i find the rendered video
On your Render Panel, Under where it says Output. It tells you where you saved your file..
i want to save the video. not the file, i mean when i click the file the video is what i will see not the things i edited. what should i do?
Hello, So you have started a new project and then you did some edits. Then you rendered out the video? Then you open the video file and the edits are not there only the original video? Is that correct?. What edits did you make?
Darkfall no what i mean is that im done with the video i made so how would i save the video now? I saved it but as a file. What i wanted was to get the video i made. Not to get it as a file where when i click it i only see the things i edited. How can i get the the actual video i made? Btw what i did was video editing.
Oh ok Im sorry I got a little confused lol.. So you have done your edit then Saved the file (by pressing Ctrl + S) and now you want to Render it out. The video here shows you how you can Render your finished work into a Video File such as a MP4 video, You go to the render panel, Change the file type. From JPEG to FFMPEG. Then go to encoding and select the preset h264 in MP$ format. Then select the destination (where you want this video to be saved) then press the Animation button at the top. Once the video has been rendered you will be able to view and use it.. I hope this helps..
Also if there is Audio and you want to render that too make sure you go to Audio Codec and select MP£ or something you like.
thanks! but my video cant open like yours. my edit does not show up like your video. how did you open your video there? bc i didnt edit mine like yours i used video editing. what should i do? lol i have so many questions sorry
it says when i save as it says save as blender file HELP
If you go to File then Save as it will save the project file.. But if you want to render out your project you will need to hit the render button (after choosing the correct settings)..
when i edited video, then i play video. the video is edited but it lost the quality... can u help me. pls..
Hey Rajesh, When you say you edited the video, What did you do to it?. Then when you rendered it out did you make sure the resolution settings were the same as your original Video. Also make sure the Percentage Slider (located under the resolution settings) Make sure it is at 100%.
no i just increase the resloution more... tnx for rply
after editing 5 mins video it taking too much time to rendering animation and save.... is it comman
colour balance ,mix ,grading, play with curvers , image overdrop i have done all this....
If you increase the resolution you will,
1. Get bad footage because you upscaled the video and you will lose quality and details..
2. This will also increase your render time.. With all the nodes and things it can take a while to render..
How do you render a Quick Time Movie?
If you are using Blender 2.8 you can changed the File type to FFMPEG and then change the container to Quicktime..

wait so i have to do this before i render.. because if yes then.. F*CK!
Really? I mean it isn't that much of a task to change a couple of settings...
This is the most confusing shit I swear.
You want to render a video?.. If you are using 2.79 just go to the Render Panel and set your video settings (such as the Video resolution, FPS). Then change the file format to an FFmpeg Video. You also want to change the encoding container to MPEG-4. If you have Audio you also need to scroll down and change the Audio Codec to MP3..
If you are still having trouble rendering a Video, I will need some info..
This was probably the worst tutorial for new users i had no clue what he was talking about
This video was a specific video requested to show the new way to render out or "save" a movie clip.. This Video was not aimed at new users.. It is aimed at those who already use blender but were confused by the new change...
