It’s cool but I can’t stand when companies use the monthly subscription switch and bait. It isn’t monthly at all. It’s an annual subscription and they're just saying what that would work out to IF it was broken up into 12 payments. It's $254 US annually.

@@annieelliot9569 Whether you do or don't is irrelevant. My issue is when these companies use this really slimy tactic to fool a customer into taking a second look because the monthly subscription seems affordable. It's gross. They know exactly what they're doing. The product might be great but pretending that there's a monthly subscription when there isn't says way more to me about the company than the actual software.

It's fascinating how companies like ADOBE were able to get rich in the old days where they were shipping only one product every 5 years. And they were doing it despite the consumer base being a tiny portion of today. Now every person that has a computer is a creator and is paying subscriptions and it is still not enough for these greedy a-holes.

The thing is that those software start like this and then in 1 2 years, they restrict the free system so much that either you buy a 250 USD per year software or is screwed. I don't know if this is the case, but not being able to access your own files after you stop subscribing is unacceptable. The model as with adobe, is lets get them hook and then we can charge what ever we want or put all types of conditions like adobe has been doing lately with AI.

When animating text, you mentioned that in After effects or in Fusion you have to manually adjust individual settings to have it animated and then start over from scratch if you want to make another animation project but just to give you time saving tips you can save these things as preset or template or macro in Fusion so you won't have to redo everything from scratch. You can just drag and drop it in and input your text. It even saves the typeface, font size and other things like drop shadow or glow.

Thanks for sharing, Michael. Just on a first glance, it feels a bit like Motion in a way, to animate simple text. I’ve been using AE since their Alpha version many years ago, and really dislike the whole Adobe subscription model, paying for things pro users like myself don’t need. I’ve been looking for an AE alternative and not found something powerful enough. I can see how a tool like Calvary may be useful to create some simple text animations to save some time overall, but to use along with complex animations moving around 2D elements in 3D space, or importing 3D data into a project file, Calvary just is not strong enough. I do like how you can add spreadsheet information into Calvary, but the same can be done in AE. Michael, thanks again man for sharing with all of us. I wish you the very best.

Michael - curious how you'd compare Cavalry to Apple's Motion 5 software. Some of the stuff you're talking about regarding ease of animation building feels pretty similar to Motion’s "behavior" feature (and the ability to apply behaviors to specific parameters). Motion isn't free, but isn't a subscription either. It's a one-time purchase of a very fair price for the toolset (I think only $50?). Downside is it's mac-only. That google sheets integration is VERY nifty though

Not taking anything away from Cavalry at all, but you do realize that After Effects actually comes with a whole category of text animation presets.
Create your text, center it, drop Fly in from Bottom and Fade up from the Effects > Animation Presets>Text>Animate In onto your text, open advanced and change to by line for both and you are done. If you want to do it by character, word, or line, just change it in the drop down under advanced. Drag your keyframes for percentage complete to shorten or lengthen the effect, etc.
A very large number of those presets work together really well, so you can combine them into some pretty complex text animations fairly quickly.
Again, not taking anything away from Cavalry or your choice, but sometimes it's just being more familiar with the tool.

      @ivan-_-8577 2 місяці тому

Why is that? The biggest problem with After Effects is management and subscription. The program itself is great and, unfortunately, has no adequate replacement. Davinci costs $295 for the US or €332.75 for the EU, making animation in the form of nodes is a real torture and the free version has a lot of limitations. Cavalry is unstable and even more limited in functionality, and just like After Effects has a subscription system. The free version is so cut down that you just don’t want to use it. This is especially true for the rendering resolution. I would be very grateful to Adobe if they returned the purchase of the application at full price, as an option. And cut out all the analytical, spyware and network garbage from there. Just for fun, install a demo version of After Effects or Photoshop from ten years ago. You will see that they are great, almost flawless, stable and optimized. It's just that Adobe has been rotting from the inside ever since.

When I need to control hundreds of text layers in AE, I just create one Null where base of my animation is stored and tweaked if needed, and just "copy expression only" -> "paste" code to all text layers using in-point offset and position values to randomise and offset animation the way I like or need. Exactly the way I like or need.
In other words, there is automation in AE and it takes minutes to setup if you know what you're doing. Yes, you need to know basic coding, but control you have and how clean yet powerful your project can be is second to none.
Also, when does ability to fine tune animation on graph editor became a neg?
Cavalry ... idk, it feels like same problem with community and C4D, where toolset defines what people are doing and not the other way around. Because of that there are so much identical animations, artists, even studios. Why all those even exists, what the point or value in it is beyond me. Those who want to do stuff they want instead of software telling them what to do either fighting with given toolset in C4D finding workarounds or just switch to Blender or Houdini.

In AE you can simply use a small tool like Flow, and you don't have to ease keyframes. Also Mr. Horse is very good for text effects (I was lucky I bought it for a one time price, sucks that thát tool is a monthly license now too). But Flow isn't.

Choose a program based on your workflow and never because of the subscription model. After while everyone will be on that model the more popular it gets and the requests for improvement. Just looking at this for the first time I’ll give this a try it seems there’s less work for certain animations. Keep in mind he did say for the PRO version which means it’s not free to use everything. One thing I’m looking for is great rendering times as it seems after every update, After Effects has this crazy rendering times no matter what specs you have. I’ve always said Adobe needs to do better research and come with better software and workflows

In this sense, I like the Fable App much more and I felt like I could work with the tool and it wouldn't let me down.

Love the alts to all Adobe progs. Still, those seeking alts to AE aren't probably that creative to start. Example, with TONS of plug-ins, scripts, and other 3rd party modules made for AE, I'm able to nail VFX not only in Motion Graphics, but still/static Graphics too. Stuff I just can't pull off in combining PS+Illustrator or any of those individually in still Graphics, I can kill it in AE quickly. When the alt software/apps are as 3rd party dev ready as the OGs, I'll dive in with yall. Til then, arbitrage, arbitrage, arbitrage. This was a great watch!

Sounds interesting, but no 3D in 2024 is a bit of a slap. With so many companies moving towards 3D motion design, it feels backwards. Sure, you can use Blender for the 3D, but sometimes doing things natively is better for control (importing .obj files)
When the comes to alternatives, the question is always "what are you willing to sacrifice?" - I tried Affinity Photo and Designer, cool software but on Windows the zoom shortcut uses Ctrl instead of Alt. For some reason the developers don't want to change it. If that's the case, they can keep their software and I'll go back to Adobe. Every app uses Alt to zoom, even non-Adobe ones.

Dude, this is really expensive, paying $192 a year is absurd. The program is just starting out and they already want to charge something similar to Adobe After Effects. There's no way to defend it. If it were like Affinity, paying once and having the program would be fine, but like this, there's no way to defend it, no matter how good it is.
