Allen you are an absolute star. I had this wired in by a sparky but he got it wrong and I fixed it by following your advice. Thanks very much, I love your videos so please carry on. Best wishes from Wales.
Ad my house for 3 years now and boiler is on all the time and cost me a fortune so iv hardly switched it on just used it for hot water. Watching your vid has now convinced me to get a thermostat. It never had one.
Alan, I've been waiting for months for a friend to install, but with your help I think I can manage it myself. Haven't got the original instructions for the boiler, but I'll go up in the loft tomorrow and see if I can work it out. Fingers crossed.
Great video as usual Allen. I would recommend buying the EU version (V3) of the TADO, not the UK Version to use on combi boilers, so that it can be wired in via OpenTherm, E-Bus etc to enable the boiler to make use of Load/Weather Comp. It just seams strange that TADO dropped OpenTherm from their UK versions as not many installers either used it or understood it.
The tado load comp is pretty limited, it only uses radiator flow temps in its model. The weather comp is also quite slow to update, a dedicated local sensor is miles better.
@@AllenHart999 They are my go to thermostats for combi installs, although I have to order them in from TADO Germany. But well worth it for a wirless OpenTherm option. Also the fact they work with all boilers, like Vaillant, Viessman, Worcester etc. makes them a great choice. But they have their limits.
@@Swwils I'm guessing your not using OpenTherm version, as when you do the boiler runs at arround 37-42 deg C and controls the flow temp. Perfect for retro fits under the new Building Regs Pt L.
@@simonbeal277 it will control the flow temp based on local weather data that is not that accurate or quick to update in the UK. A local sensor can exactly control the curve in the real weather location.
Hi Allen. Great video. You did mention you would expalin the 2 different wiring methods for the stat. You used potential free set up and the other was a 230v switched live. Cheers
Thank you! So basically two wires as a permanent live from the boiler to the tado block & the link wire is just a switch from the Tado system to turn heating on or of via the app/thermostat! Its a shame in this wireless age it needs the complication needing to be plugged into the router. good video tho!
Thanks for info on thermostat wiring , Quick question is there any power at the CH Com & Ch Open as my boiler connections at the link do not call for any power at these connections .
Hi Alan, hope your well. If you buy that version with the hot water and use it on a combie does it matter that you dont use the hot water side of the tado controller?
This is great, thanks! One question I do have. As I have an old receiver I can just swap it out with the Tado, however there is an earth wire in the old unit, Im wondering if theres somewhere I could put it (other than just crimp-lugging it to wall inside the unit or inside the unit itself) Cheers!
Just to answer my own question, I used a Wego in the end, but have also since discovered there are 2 'parking' slots on the Tado, either of these can be used as earth as well (so I understand)
Hi there, I have a honeywell wireless stat at the moment, with a neutral, live and an A and a B wire between the receiver and my viessman vitedens 200 boiler. Will I be able to use the existing wiring coming out of the boiler or will I need to change it. Thanks
Hi Allen - thank you for all those great videos. I have ideal boiler combi ESP1 35 with a dual zone ESI thermostat but I want the Tado thermostat instead. Do you think you can do a quick video showing us how to do it? I know lots of people that will love to see that video.😊 thank you
Thanks Allen, i followed everything but was puzzled when you got to the plug 21 wire connection. Did you take out the original wire connection that you did previously in the video
Great Video. I have an Ideal Vogue Max combi boiler which is about 2 years old and is run via Halo thermostat set up. Would I be able to install just the Tado Smart thermostat valves and Internet bridge to some of my radiators without the need of installing the Tado hub? I have read that as long as my boiler is compatible with Opentherm and 240v, my Ideal boiler will work? Can you please advise? Thanks so much, Ian
Maybe a stubid question but can I use these on underfloor heating. I have 3,wired thermostats for 3 zones. I would like to replace them with smart, programmable thermostats. If not, advice would be appreciated.
Im using the VIESSMANN Vitodens 200-W B2HB and installed a thermostat in each room. I replaced two of them with the Tado thermostat (wired) and I’m planning to replace all the others in the future. Do I need a additional extension kit or is this enough? It’s not fully understandable for me what’s the benefits of a extension kit.
Hi Allen. Do you have any videos or advice on fitting this Tado v3+ kit to a Worcester Greenstar 4000? Completely new install no previous controls in house. Thanks!
Just a quick question about the existing wall room thermostat, would this be rendered useless or would it need to be set to full? Also, the timer on the boiler would this need to be set to constant? I have a Worcester Greenstar 30Si Combi... TY
As an end user I can confirm it co exists happily with weather comp on Baxi 600 and 800 kit. The absence of Open Therm on the UK product is frustrating.

Hi, I was going to install the Tado smart wireless thermostat on my Vaillant Ecotec 831 boiler however I spoke with an engineer who said while it can be done on the Ecotec boilers it will not run as efficiently as they would using their own controllers.
