Absolute great video. Many thanks made a DIY’er very happy! 😊
Superb video.... Thinking of replacing a MT10 with same which should be easy but someone mentioned Hive.... Looks good but not less energy usage with batteries - i wasn't sure if that is advantage of Hive i guess not.. versatility vs. cost. Might give it a go though...some more research..like program etc. On/off..
Hands down the absolute best video I’ve found to wire a Hive to a Vaillant, I rarely leave comments for anything but credit where it’s due, thank you.
Fitted my first hive with combi a week ago, no problems except app couldn't find receiver etc, just hade blue dash bouncing left to right on phone searching. Gave up in the end and rang Hive who were very helpful. She already had my customer details her end (wow, spooky) and just said cone out of the app completely and then back in again and bingo! Basically turn off then back on 😂 Don't know whether she done anything her end but all good.
thank you so much for clearly explaining everything. My boilerman left me the device and said it only took a few minutes to set up and was easy. Half a day later and I've got nowhere, but after watching this video, within 15 minutes everything is working.
Trying to set up the hive has taken days . Automated valves had to be installed on the old plumbing system. As this is a second hive used a different email for the account and a different phone . ( don't ask) All done but after the hub updated could not pair the receiver and thermostat. Checked out this video and it now works. You must follow the exact order to get it to work. 1 Hub installed and updated . 2 turn on receiver and let it flash yellow 3 Add batteries to thermostat and let it flash 4 then go to app and ask it to find thermostat. It works in seconds. I had been doing 4 before step 2 and 3 and getting no where. Listen to the man and do exactly as he says. Brilliant . Thank you
Brilliant, recently moved house and took my Hive with me from my old home. The engineer who serviced my boiler wanted me to buy a nest and wouldn't fit the Hive, this video explained everything and its now installed and working. Thankyou.
Great tutorial. As a newly qualified gas engineer, your videos are so informative and easy to follow.
Thank you!!
Top video, I struggled to get mine to connect. Hive were less than useless, wasted hours trying to pair up components. After watching this video. Sorted in ten minutes.
I'm a plumber just started working on boliers 2 years I really appreciate these videos I'm learning so much . Everything you explain is very clear . Keep up the good work I will continue to watch these videos. 😎
Glad to hear you’re enjoying the content!💪
Totally agree, good shout
I already have a cable connected
You videos are fantastic. I'm 40 and just booked up a Gas course to retrain.
You explain things so well and make it look easy.
Keep up the good work my friend
How’s it going? Just finished my 4 months and starting portfolio now. Hope you’re getting on okay
Thank you! My setup is going to be even easier, because I already have an external control unit routed out of my boiler. My boiler servicing company wanted to charge me £174 for this installation. Absolutely mental.
I’m an engineer and just subscribed. Great video.
Welcome aboard!
Absolutely fantastic detail in this video, I would never have approached this but wired my replacement Hive up over the weekend after changing to a combi and all working successfully.
I never leave comments but this is the best video I found (and I watched a lot before this one!!) Thank you!
Simple and straight to the point... very well done sir!
Hands down the best reference video. I encourage everyone to view this video before installing hive thermostat, hub and receiver. Love the cutters can’t decide on left handed or right handed versions 🤔
Really good, well laid out and explained video. I'd recommend anyone to watch it all the way through before attempting and then again as you're doing it. 10/10
By far one of the best tutorial I've used, super informative
so impressed! You should be a teacher!!
I have just completd installing Hive following this instructions and is all done took me about 1 hour , as my boiler is in the loft and had to get a cable from the loft into the living room where the received and Hub and thermostat is , amazing
You should teach full time mate, so articulate and a great video.
Thank you!
This is hands down the most efficient video. Flawless!
Good video, the bit where you have to wait for the hub to update was very helpful as the app won’t connect with the hub otherwise, thank you.
I don't usually comment on videos but this was great. Concise and informative. Well done.
Great video, fitted 3 in one day, I didn’t need advice on the wiring but not good with hubs and Wi-Fi issues. If it works straight away, it’s great. The logic steps and how long to leave it updating is worth saving this video. Nice job 👍
This video was so informative and helpful, can't thank you enough for making this easy enough to do yourself. In case it helps anyone else, I accidentally skipped the step to remove the link between RT and 24V on the left, and my heating was on all the time despite the controls being set to off, following the instructions properly and removing that wire fixed the issue. Thanks again!
Really helpful, thank you so much. I've just successfully replaced an old honeywell thermostat and receiver with a new Hive system thanks to your video 🙂
Great video man. Really easy to follow. Best step by step vid on how best to install these by far!
Brilliant video easy to follow. I have ideal logic 30 boiler slightly different wiring method but I got there. I’m no expert just a man doing diy.
Absolutely amazing instructions, thank you, sir! I'm feeling well and truly proud of myself for doing a bit of an electrical project, without blowing the house up 😂 🎉
The risk is it can always blow up later due to shoddy diy. Electrical work, esp on a boiler should never be done really.
@@ballisticrealism are you saying these instructions give shoddy results??
@@stuarthunt9999 No but its quite easy instructions to be applied incorrectly. Not saying the instructions is bad or you've done it incorrectly but theres a risk that if you do something wrong, you wont know until theres consequences later on. Most DIY stuff is ok but things like messing with the electricals in a boiler is too risky tbh.
This guy is amazing, so clear and consise. It's easily the best instruction video I've seen. Thank you!
Great simple video, clear concise instructions, great job!
Top video you have a great command of the subject.
Master Tutor and not a plumber.
Thank for the video, you were my step by step guide to installing my thermostat, very much appreciated 😅
Really explain step by step no one explain like great video thanks
Perfect Video gives me every confidence to replace my honeywell reciever and place a hive,
Top video I’ve just bought a hive and have the same boiler very easy to do know a little electrics and this was very helpful all up and running and all good thanks for the video
This is an excellent video welll done!!!! Communicated very clearly and showed every aspect required!! Excellent!!!! Thank you bro!!!❤❤
Great video, really helped with me sorting mine out 👍
Great to hear!
Brilliant Video, followed this exactly and installed my Hive thermostat easy, thankyou 🙏🙏
You’re very well articulated and your step-by-step instructions are very clear and detailed for any engineer whether novice or experienced. In this particular case with the Hive instructions filled with ambiguity, you’ve demonstrated the installation setup perfectly, Well done.
No disrespect with my next comment; I just don’t understand why engineers choose the Hive, especially on the Vaillant as there is no real modulation on the Hive and doesn’t have OT capabilities. Nor does the Vaillant for that matter. The Hive is just a glorified on/off control. Vaillant’s own controls via the e-Bus connection provide modulation or the new Tado with its various Bus controls can be connected as a third party control capable of modulating the Vaillant boiler. I’m just curious with the thought process, this is in no way undermining or challenging you or this video, only to engage in conversation to better ourselves and one another through learning and sharing.
Thank you for your comment Jas, I really appreciate it!
Yeah I get what you’re saying. This video was just to show how to set up the hive hub and app as I had quite a few requests. The only time I fit Hive thermostats is when the customer has already bought it or insists they want it. But recently I think Screwfix had them on sale so a lot of people were going crazy for them!
@@advancedboilertraining think it will work really well with weather comp as an on/off influencer on boilers that will accept it. I’ve wired and converted a Y-plan to PDHW on the Hive (that the customer bought lol) and that works well as some may prefer the look and cost of the Hive over the Nest or Tado equivalent. Great vids, with in-depth explanations on how to repair etc. Appreciate your work and work ethic.
@@advancedboilertraining they are £109 at the minute, my replacement Honeywell (overly complicated) thermostat was more expensive. So it's no suprise people go for the Hive. Household name and easy to use.
Took me a bit of time to figure out a few parts but that was spot on
Brilliantly explained 👏👏
We just had a Hive put in this week, and took the guy over 2hrs !! Why it took so long ? I think most of the time wasted on trying to understand the software setup and I can tell the guy is clueless with technology. Your video made it look so simple and as a tech person I can see you have covered all the steps in details yet the process easy to follow, but I would never try to re-wire anything in the boiler, guess this is why we have to pay big bucks for trained engineers.
Perfectly explained video, with very good tips. Thank you. 👍🏻
Good that you put the brown sleeve on the white conductor but you should have put blue on the black conductor as well to indicate that it is a neatral.
Thank you very much, really easy to follow tutorial and your suggestions to save time are spot on! Many thanks!
Great video off to buy the device and ill watch this again during install. Top Man!
I bought one and fitted for my parents for Xmas. £109 from Screwfix
Big thank you for this video! It worked an absolute dream.
Really useful video, every step very clear and easy to follow. Thanks!
Absolutely awsome help sir,,thanku loads,,godbless you sir😊
Best tutorial video, highly appreciated. Thanks 🙏

Must say , great video and perfect instructions .
Great video thanks. This has fixed my problem
Great to hear!
Great video and looks quite easy to install, someone was quoting me GBP80 just to install it LOL
Great vid! Thanks for sharing.
Top video .Excellently taught..bless you Thank you🙏
Excellent video. You are TOP MAN 👍🙌
Thank you!
Great video, really easy to understand. Thanks.
Great video! Well done and thank you! Saved me a load of time! 👍
Wow how simple was that to follow well done mate thank you 👍
Brilliant sir,very helpfull indeed thankyou
Most kindly
💪💪
Excellent video!
I just replaced my existing Hive with the new 3 piece kit but after following your instructions I found I couldn't connect the new hub to British Gas servers so its worth knowing that you have to get in touch with the Hive helpline so they will remove the old Hive off their servers and install the new hub when they will need Id number from the bottom of the new hub.
Thanks for the comment! Hopefully this might help someone else in a similar situation
Great video thanks for precise instructions was a breeze to fit 😊😊
Fantastic video
Excellent guide video, thanks loads.
Amazing video keep up the good work thanks
Excellent video, very clear. Thanks very much
Great help… can you let me know how to install if there is already a existing Honeywell thermostat
Excellent video well explained great instructions. Thanks 👍
Thanks for this Video you are a lifesaver
Good morning mate,I really like the Way you help the new engineers, can you explain for the same thermostat but dual channel wiring please.
What a great video thanks for sharing 👏👏😎
Brilliant videos always on point I have learn so much from you you should be running classe's teaching you explain things so clear have you any course's running in London I want to apply because I want to become a boiler service engineer ????
Don’t have any physical classes but you can sign up to my membership site which has a lot of content to help you progress as an engineer
Excellent demo, thanks 🙏
Thank you Richard! Appreciate the kind words👊
Fantastic video, very explanatory but I also have a small issue. Open the PCB but can't see any RT slot; should I connect the grey wire to "3" port?
Red wire bypass in-between "3" & "4".
Can't attach a picture to see.
Thanks.
Wicked video very thorough 👏🏾
Very good well explained video, plain and simple and to the point. Is there any chance you could do a video on the SWITCHEE thermostat.. Thanks.
What was the reason for the link connection between live and terminal one?
Also wondering why
Well done mate excellent 👌
Great info video ❤
Best video thanks😅
Hi,
I normally install the hive active heating without using the app. I then leave it for the customer to set up on their phone when they get home.
If you use the app on your phone to do it, I presume that you just remove/unlink the hub from your account so the customer can then link the hub to their account??
Thanks for your videos. It very helpful.
Yeah you can always leave it for the customer to do after, if the customers not there not much you can do
Great video, well done.
Great video, if I was connecting multi zone. Would you recommend setting up one stat and then add the second heating/hot water stat via the app. Or do it all together
Thanks for the video, we followed it exactly and everything worked except the boil did not fire up as it should, then we realised we have the centre manual controller, is there a simple.way to override this panel? Thanks
My boiler inside doesn’t look like this with “RT” it has L N Earth then 3,4,5 next to it how would I wire this up mate?
Great video mate how about Hive Hubless Active V3 Wireless Heating Smart Thermostat it’s same wiring connection?
Super helpful
Thanks so much
Absolutely spot on bro! Thx! One question plse… if you have two zones e.g ground floor and first floor. How would you connect give, would you need second hub and receiver? Hope to hear from thank you!
Great video. Does the cable come with the unit, or did you have to buy it separately?
Very detailed video.
Great video, thought it would be a breeze wiring mine up but my Vaillant has a different PCB. Has L, N, E, 3,4,5. Have a fused spur and wired the receiver with L from spur and boiler going to L. N from spur and boiler going to N then 3 from boiler into 1 on receiver and 4 from boiler going into 3. Also have a link from L to 1. When you turn thermostat up the light on receiver clicks on but it won’t start the central heating on boiler. I’m stuck
Same here mate
Same here
Good instruction well explain but Iv check my boiler and I don’t have a rt on my valiant combi
Absolutely brilliant step by step tutorial which actually made me buy the V3 with Hub. I have the same boiler and have followed exact instructions however when I set my thermostat temp the receiver light is fixed green but the boiler isn’t switching on. Can you help me here please?
Did you find a fix for this?
Great video 👍 👌
Awesome video.
Are we able to keep the old thermostat also wired in or does it completely get rid of the old thermostat?
