It's gonna be a long walk home
Hey, pretty darling, don't wait up for me
Gonna be a long walk home
A long walk home

I work in that diner, lol. And my boss is in the video too, sitting next to the window looking out. Bruce still comes in: he was there on Father's Day with his son..and was there the other day too.
Wow!
What's he like in person? Warren Zevon said about him that in his experience Bruce is exactly how you'd expect him to be.
@Jeff Davis Thanks friend, you've taught me something new today 🙂
I've been to that diner. Your boss is a nice guy. Sat in the same seat Bruce did in this video, and played it on my phone. Enjoyed my meal as well.
@@johnknowles6711
Where’s the diner? I used to live on Route 79.
This was the first song I heard as I drove home after my son was born.
I’ve had some serious drug and alcohol issues in the past. The last time I was in the hospital/rehab (2013) I was lucky enough to have a music therapy class. The teacher would bring in songs with the lyrics and ask what kind of connection we got from it. I stopped him after one of the classes and asked him if he knew this song...he didn’t...but told me he’d look into it and if the lyrics seemed to pertain to everybody’s situation, he’d bring it in. I IMMEDIATELY wrote out the song word for word and gave it to him. He laughed and asked how I got it down so fast...”I’m sort of a big Springsteen fan” (understatement of the fucking century). The next day he came in with it and I obviously had to explain why it meant so much to me. The song is about starting over, the “long walk” can be literal or figurative, but in my mind it meant the rest of my life until I was at peace again. Of course, the line “everybody has a reason to begin again”, speaks for itself. It was time for change and this song helped me every step of the way. It still does.
keep yourself out of drugs, you'll make it to get back "home" again!
I'm going through it now, yes I am a Native JERSEY BOY and grew up down the SHORE. His MUSIC and the INCREDIBLE man himself have been one of my BEST FRIENDS for my whole LIFE.
Been a BRUCE but since 1975...
I wish you nothing but HAPPINESS , JOY, FRIENDSHIP, and PEACE and LOVE...
God BLESS,

I've just listened again and with the video footage as well, it seems to be a metaphor for Bruce's depression and his poignant and lovely and manly message to Patti. And as always with Bruce, the journey back to America. Such a wonderfully honest and deeply clever songwriter..bring on the Nobel prize.
BTT, Thanks, guy! You can make it and will be better, stronger, more insightful and compassionate from the ordeal. The purest steel comes from the hottest fires and heaviest hammers.
Bless you dear friend
One of his most under rated songs
Springsteen is a genious, you give him a pencil and paper and ask him to write a song, he writes a masterpiece instead. The man is extremely intelligent, you can even tell just by looking at his lyrics on a sheet of pare. He does something that nobody in todays "music' does. He relates his songs to everyday people in general. While other clowns will "sing" about hitting up 50 different men and women in one sitting, Springsteen touches the lives of real people just trying to live their lives.
So true; it seems though, even though he is an ultra-rich musician, he remembers, or retains, what motivates a regular guy and a regular girl to try to make their way through life: their fears, their hopes, their plans, their aspirations. He is a gift to this country, and really this whole world, and we should honor that.
Please listen to John Prine. I think you will be both amazed and astounded with his writings, too.
@@johnblair3267 John was a natural with his pen writing meaningful song lyrics RIP John Prine ❤

Ive been a fan of Bruce for over 40yrs and his songs got me through som rough times in my life! From lossing my father in 2017 and my divorce! And his music and words kept me moving forward to accept life and my failures and learn from them and keep moving forward!!
Beautiful words!
Amen brother! hope you are still moving forward. I am
Robert, thanks for sharing that post. God bless you; I pray you will move forward. and reach the Promised Land.
@Bruce Springsteen🎶 grandes canciones que dan fuerzas para vivir

The great forgotten Springsteen album
A great album truly great album
Bruce Springsteen is one of the greatest rock ' n ' roll musician ever to have for generations. After he is gone it will be very hard to find a replacement in equal measure as Bruce. He transcends from all generations the old and young black and white all over the world. He is a special man.
so watch him while you can
Don't think about that. Than he is still alive in our hearts.
Bruce is my biggest music love. And I am 17...I think he touches every person, no matter what age is.
Welcome to maybe 24. :)

Bruce is a striking example of a "Spiritual Being" doing, creating and giving back to the Planet; nothing but good vibrations, love and compassion. He's a True Light of Hope in a World of Narcissistic behavior and a willingness of ppl to easily hurt others. Thanks so much Bruce for being You!

I'm English and I have liked Bruce Springsteen for many years. He is very American and obviously he loves his country which I think is great. This is one of my favourite along with Radio nowhere. Thank you Bruce. Keep them coming
How so much awesome music can continuously come out of one person completely amazes me. Over 40 years.
Amazes me too, and his concerts are just awesome.
He won't go on forever so lets enjoy him while we can.
Same sentiments here!
L
unclerainey very true. I just wish he'd shut up with the anti conservative liberal leftist crap.
special, a genius
On this 4th of July, "Long Walk Home" expresses beautifully and poignantly my anxiety for my country at this moment ...
I love the "Magic" record, to me one of the best - if not the best - record of Springsteen along with The Rising. This song is pure gold, and although Bruce's catalog is huge, I miss these songs on his live concerts.
Great album but far from his best...darkness on the edge of town and tunnel of love his best.
@@thebatman2837 Darkness on the edge of town is the best album in the world ever recorded, period.
He's the greatest saw him 7 times❤️❤️
Magic was his best album for years...still is.
This man.....has been the legend of transcendence and hope through his vision of grit and determination..he has the ability to lift us up from the mean streets to a better place of faith...LOVE you Bruce, and THANK you !!!
Unlike today's artists, who have to sell sensuality to be successful. Musician, artist, legend... Like Bruce, we simply toast with generality, purity and a lot of talent. It's a great pleasure to listen to such great music!

Maddog RIP their dad Scott.

The magic power of Springsteen's music is is that it consoles you and gives you strength in moments of indecision and loneliness. Thnak u Boss !!!
When so much commercial radio (or what's left of it) still can't stop playing "Dancing in the Dark", so much of Springsteen's more recent work gets ignored, like this song. I don't know where people these days get their music, but I just hope this one is on some playlists. It is a classic.
To everyone listening in 2021, things will get better.
Yes.

At least the four-year nightmare came to an end...
I know!
I hardly drink anymore...
But I'll have a drink with this fella who wrote my life in one song when I was 12....And continued to comment on my journey up until now...
Maybe I can convince him to have a bong instead...
I'm not from US and I'm not a hardcore fan of Springsteen, but you don't need to share any of those traits to appreciate this beautiful song. Anyone can relate to having to start anew, the re-discovery of your roots and the sweet longing for your childhood's surroundings. Awesome, it always touches my heart.
Fdo Retam Excellent observation-- seeing this as more of a universal song than a flag-waving strictly-USA anthem (especially in light of Springsteen's overall musical career). Couldn't agree more.

Bruce is one Hell of a song writer
My father said "Son, we're lucky in this town,
It's a beautiful place to be born.

This song cannot be DESCRIBED. For me it represents the last hope, an anchor in the eternal maelstrom of this life! My wife and I have experienced a lot of things live with the Boss in recent years: twice in Berlin, Leipzig, Munich and Kilkenny. Sometimes we just sat in front of it, in Dublin for example. YOU CAN'T DESCRIBE TEARS OF JOY, THEY ARE SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL...
I remember seeing my first Bruce consert summer 2012 in Bergen. I really wanted him to play this one, but dad said he hadn´t played it all tour. The first thing that happends is Bruce walking out with guitar and harmonica in hand and plays it acoustically. It was a great show.
Bruce Springsteen bio
So happy for you. He did this in Sydney in 2013.
I saw my first Springsteen in 1984 near Frankfurt Germany. It was very dark in a outdoor stadium. Then the lights flashed on and Bruce jumped right into Born In the USA! The crowd went crazy. It was a moment I'll never forget! Alot of us american service members were there mixed with the germans. One of the best concerts I ever saw! The Boss is still rockin'!!
Bruce....Only you make me feel alive, really alive.
THANKS YOU...BRUCE... ALWAYS IN MY SOUL AND MY HEART..
Amazing, beautiful and very fitting song while we have to endure this terrible pandemic suffocating the planet. It's going to be a long walk home for a lot of nations after we have beaten this evil virus. Most of us have to start over again. This song is giving me the inspiration. Thanks Bruce. Keep safe. Lots of love from Cape Town, South Africa.
This is my and my dad’s song , it gives me the strenght to begin again every day
The best Boss in this world . . . .

From Romania,I think Bruce or The Boss is the complete human artist ever!
This and Gypsy Biker are the two hidden gems off Magic
Saw Springsteen twice so far. Waiting for the day we can get an E Street concert again.
That feeling was magic. Everyone was so happy ❤️
Sadly once the big guy on sax passed away we lost a huge part of the e street band

This song means so much to me. I get the political overtones, but it means something else to me. I left Alabama and moved out west for various reasons years ago. Sometimes I think about going back, but then I wonder if it's possible to "go home" again. Thanks Bruce for writing my emotions into song. It certainly is a long walk home for many of us

You simply can't beat the power of these lyrics with anything :) Bruce is amazing
What a songwriter....he manages to use the metaphor of a couple's relationship troubles to the death of innocence in his country. A genus

I think it was written about how far we strayed from American ideals during the Bush Administration, and how much healing we needed to do at the time.
Who knew that Bush would be a saint next to the psychopath we have now. I really cant listen to this song without crying nowadays.
"In the distance, I saw the town I was born." The line shakes me up being born in NYC. Love ya, Bruce
Keef and johnny....it is all bullshit. All of it. Humankind tries to explain itself, excuse itself and fails. We are doomed, environmentally and physiologically. We know not what we have done. We are not capable of understanding ourselves. We are doomed.
Go Bruce! You do it for me every time I listen, which is alot! -Above the Shoulders

If you're a true fan and lover of this amazingly talented man and his "E Street Band" you'd KNOW his songs are about his life's experiences and his faith in God and himself! As well, his country. You don't like him? Keep your unwanted and unwarranted complaints in your own private little diary! Because the majority of us DON'T want to see or hear your infantile and stupid opinions! Love you Bruce! Keep the hits coming! Your #1 FAN! ME! God Bless You!
The best artist ever
Fuck everyone else
You'd actually know not many are about 'his' life experiences. Just him looking through the lense of someone else.
Bruce’s best song post-1980s heyday BY FAR.
Incredible lyric. Great saxophone. And great video too.
Who we are, what we'll do, and what we won't.
Bruce sang this song at his concert in Pittsburgh 9/11/2016....LOVE IT!!

I hope from the bottom of my heart, that Bruce will never be tired and continues to write so many awesome songs that touches the hearts of so many human beings out there! you are one of the true heroes (not just in music) and i am so glad that i had the opportunity to meet you back in 1999! If Woody Guthrie would still be alive, and i know how much you respected him, he would bow to you, too. please: never stop!
I love this song! The sense of the life is a long walk homeBut we were born to runBruce is not only a rocker he his really a philosopherThank you for sharing with us
This song has two dimensions for me. First, I think about my hometown, devastated by crisis. I'm living now far away from this place, but I'm still a local patriot. The other - and most important - meaning, is that I have home in my heart to which I will return as soon as I will be able to understand myself and my destination given by God. It's gonna be a long walk, I bet.
I forgot how good this video is.
Great music and video. The Boss is still true to himself and to us, and always will be.
I've been to that diner. It is in Connecticut. I ate there one night when I had my own rig. It was really neat. Old diner cars from a passenger train.
