50 years ago today abbey road was born possibly the greatest rock and roll album of all time....👍
Yep.
Not to mention the last album The Beatles recorded together, as the Let It Be album was recorded in January 1969.
Back in my college days in the 70's, I was at my favorite music store and overheard a guy trying to sell a Hofner bass exactly like this one to the store. They offered him only $15. As a poor college student I somehow managed to have $25 on me and so offered that to the guy and made a deal. Great instrument- even has a German guitar store label on the case! Still have and don't plan on selling! Those were the days!

DID IT HAVE BLACK PYRAMID FLATWOUNDS ON IT

Cool seeing a Hofner played finger style!
1st band I ever saw was The Beatles, so this was a real treat. Thanks guys, super playing as usual. I had a fretless version of that bass, didn’t sound anything like that ha, wasn’t great!!
I was fortunate enough to pick mine up in ‘78 @ Chuck Levin’s Music in Wheaton, Md. With the expertise of Mike Lennon it was restored to full glory some 30 yrs later and I have cherished ever since. Great job GOTD!!!
The chemistry between all three of you is so refreshing. Really helps the music too :)) Edibles at Night will be on shirts before the years end :))
super thumping thursday
keep up the great stuff
apparently a stronger that usual batch of Edibles at Night was given out before the filming
possibly the most iconic bass ever , luv it , wwell played lads , thanks guys
If I could I'd be at your show Lemmo ! Give 'em hell @ The Whiskey ! Thanks Jen and Todd !
Todd Flowers Someone is going to film this right..🤔
@@jennrat513 I would think Jen will !?
I have been waiting all month for this day. Happy Birthday Abbey Road!!!! Kinda mad you didn't say anything though. Great sounding bass. Keep up the good work EAN.
Happy birthday to Abbey Road Have good Day A have Good day 🍺🍾🧁🎂🎂
Favorite bass. So iconic
Wonderful guys and great camera work Jen 😊
Thank you Paul McCartney for influencing so many people to pick up a Hofner bass
DOUBLE HOFNERS! as a Hofner slinger myself (Verythin Singlecut), this made me happy to see.
Good job guys.
Edibles at midnight is my all time favorite band. 🤙
I would be very careful in buying a Hofner prior to 1973 where the seller is claiming that it is a certain year. Not casting any aspersions here (yet), just a general word to the wise about Hofner basses prior to 1973 which is when they first started using S/N's. When you're buying one, ignore what they tell you about year and look at the following:
1. Is the logo on the headstock flat or raised. If raised, it's up to but not to exceed 1966.
2. Look at the pickups. If pole, it's up to but not to exceed 1966.
3. Ask to open up the control panel and look at the pots with a magnifying glass. They should have dates in one digit month 2 digit year format. It obviously could not have been made prior to that date. Mine says 571, and doesn't have a serial number, which means it was made ANY time between 5/1/71 and 12/31/72. When during that time it was made, there is NO way of telling.
4. I honestly forget when they started using the closed style gears, but I believe it was after 1967.
Where I will cast some aspersions (sorry, Norm) is, whenever someone claims that a Hofner was made in a certain year versus some other year, they're basically telling you they don't know anything about Hofner basses. Hofners were made, as I mentioned, without serial numbers prior to 1973. So, the only way to date a Hofner is by doing what I just mentioned which will give you a RANGE of dates/years. The Hofner builders used whatever was available on the bench at the time that the bass was made. So the only person who can honestly tell you the year is the guy who put it together. And without a serial number, he can't tell you, either.
This bass is particularly concerning as far as a seller claiming a certain year and, no doubt, pricing (or more than likely, overpricing) it accordingly. It has 1966 or prior style logo and tuning gears - but 1967+ style pickups and no logo on the pickguard? That dog don't hunt. It's either a non-original Frankenstein (Hofner glues their necks, so this is unlikely) or was made in early '67 and, again, they used whatever the hell was around. So it may be a '67. The pot dates will tell the final story.
All that having been said, do your homework but DO buy one. They're awesome. Every bass player should have one. Just know that every time you change strings, you'll be doing a new intonation setup due to the floating bridge. But you'll love it.
Last thing: once you own one, take a sharpie and write something that only you know what it is on the inside of the control panel and take a picture of it. That way, if it ever gets stolen, you can prove it's yours, otherwise, you're screwed.
"Jen, you're the Momager" 😂😂😋
Jen you're the monager 😂😂
Awesome video,thanks guys!!✌✌
Love seeing Edibles return to give us some good tunes on a fine Thumpin' Thursday! However! Gotta do a Maton!
Amazing bass
Sounds so warm, Todd!!
Very cool. Real deal.
I'm 15 in '72 and stopping by a local music shop for the first time as a 'guitar player' and see and play 2 things i'll never forget:
A sunburst Jag and a white blonde Hofner violin guitar.. First time seeing finish checking on an axe. Hofner had it.
Long time since then. Never seen a violin guitar ever since.
You're just a couple years older than me so your story takes me back. '71 went to my first guitar store - which was an offshoot of a pawn shop in downtown Dayton. Rough area at the time, but mom took me anyway (thanks mom). Best xmas gift ever: cheap ass guitar but nice little Fender Champ amp. Wish I still had both. Can still picture the rows and rows of guitars, the strings of xmas lights everywhere, and some guy who was in a local band that just booked a gig opening for the James Gang. He was trying out lots of guitars for the gig, all the salesman buzzing around him, talking guitar stuff. I thought it was unbelievably cool (it was). Never got good at the instrument, but can't have it all I guess. Still love guitars, and people talking about them...
@@greg7656 Thanks for the reply, Greg. Glad you love guitars. Just some bar and party gigs in the past. Not great but got paid.
That day was one i'll never forget.
ha, a Champ and The James Gang. Lore states Joe used a cranked tweed Champ and a Tele for Funk 49.
i miss a bunch of stuff so keep on keepin' on.

I see you with that extended eight days a week intro Todd!
The guitar lemmo's playing is cool and all but I wouldn't have minded seeing more of that rick from yesterday
Played my first few gigs using one of those Hofner Congress guitars with a Hofner pickup on it, couldn’t wait to get rid of it and buy a “proper” American guitar. In the early 1960s real American guitars were very rare and expensive in the U.K. so we had to use inferior European instruments, as soon as we could most of us bought American made guitars. The Hofner violin bass became very popular after the Beatles used one, they’re really nice lightweight instruments with a guitarist friendly scale length, light weight and a distinctive tone but if I could only have bass it would probably have to be a Fender Precision or Jazz as they are much more versatile.
I love Jens oohs!
I have a hofner thinline telecaster guitar, it's from my grandfather,he bought in 1970s
God damn I love how this bass sounds
I love the Honfer bass ✌️👍

I enjoy the facts and information about the models when you present them. The inside references and excessive joking can be ok at times, but focus on the facts and info. We may see something we like.
Great demo. I really miss Todd.
Nov 16th is my birthday. KOOL
Todd and Edibiles at night!
Lol, "edibles at night" need to stay out of "the edibles" before filming an episode of gotd...Y'all so high it gave me the munchies! Although I can't deny the grin on my face as I amuse in your antics.
I wish I could get high & play musical instruments at my job.
5:38 - McCartney played his Höfner 500/1 bass last on the roof concert in 1969?
Yeah, he did play it then, but he has used it since as well. In fact, he has been playing it regularly since the 80s (Thanks for asking him to, Elvis Costello).
7:30 - your Beatle-bass-guy told you to keep the settings SOLO = ON, BASS = ON and TREBLE = ON? There is no rule on how to adjust the settings, but if you want to copy McCartney's setting, you need to set TREBLE = OFF, everything else equal.
Great sales pitch incentive at the end there 🤣😆
Time to publish the Lemmo Zine.
I was thinking today that Edibles at Night should do a Beatle bass.
1. And I love her
2. Eight Days a Week
Could barley hear ML! Very cool anyway. Thank you for sharing!

As a Beatles fan and a bass player, I gotta say I truly hate these basses.
Honestly I personally like them! They just feel a little to small for me tho.
Had one. Could never get comfortable with the violin body. No affection for these basses.
Same here, I had one and it felt awkward especially with the arched back digging in you..felt like it was floating about!
I so agree. I have always had a pet dislike for these basses.
Harry Hard-On, lol!
