Ive started scoring better inside of 120 by using a single wedge for most scenarios (54 or 56) and using a clock like system for set distances. Also right hand dominance in the swing has helped get pin point yardage wise. I can pick up a ball and throw it a set distance within a small margin for error. Same principle applies for those feel based shorter shots

His tips aren't really for the golfers who have that much distance control. I have 3 levels of shorter swings for all my wedges thru PW, but lots of people can only deal in full swings when they're starting out.

My inside 120 yds used to be the best part of my game but it has struggled the past few months big time. On the range, I hit it perfectly but when I get out there, it's horrible shots. I believe it's because of tip #4 and #5 so looking forward to trying out your recommendations.

Great video as always! A suggestion for a future video topic - If a golfer has fitted clubs should they make swing path changes? For example, my lie angle on my 3 - 9 irons is +4 degrees, making hitting a draw a bit more difficult (my perception). Should I stay with a more over the top cut swing (for consistency sake and my natural tendency) or should I succumb to pursuing the below the plane swing which could be in conflict with my club's lie angle. Vice versa for people with 0 or negative lie angles who may want to reduce their draw for accuracy.

Hey! Happy New Year! I like this concept. I always calculate TO THE FLAG then subtract the space I have to land on the green…. Not exactly at the flag. That’s my target distance. Not using the 120 yrd club to get exactly 120. Usually leaves at least decent putts from there!

Really enjoy the tips. As I get older I have to remind myself, I don’t have the same swing as I did years ago. I usually try to play to the center of each green instead of going at the flag 80% of the time.

I play with many seniors who choose their clubs based upon their fond memories. The most glaring example is how many seviors choose 3 wood from the rough 200 out.

I’d love to find a channel with more game management stuff. As far as this video, I don’t know many average players trying to hit intentional cuts/draws from any distance very often unless it’s trying to bend it around a tree. As far as never play to the flag number, what would one do when playing to a front pin over water with a significant downhill putt if you go past the pin or if there is trouble behind the green?

Either pray before your shot or play it safe and aim for the middle of the green....that is what i would do,😊

I mean, come on, of course there are times the game makes you hit it to a yardage. Sometimes you have to hit a golf shot. I think what Matt's trying to do is give an average golfer a philosophy on how to approach shots in the scoring zone with the skills they have. I do think he should have ended with a statement & linked videos on how to develop greater skill in the scoring zone.

I get lucky sometimes when I try a shot I've never tried. Once forced a back stance slice 4 iron and curved it under and around a tree to land like 5 ft in front of the green, chipping for eagle. I then proceeded to skull my wedge OB but hey it felt great getting there.

I think a better way to phrase the first one is if you’re 120 out don’t hit the club that you hit 120 on your best swing.
For example for me my average gap wedge is around 115. Could I get it 120 if it hit it pure? Sure, and it’s going to depend on how I’m hitting the ball that day.
Sometimes it feels effortless and I will go for it with the gap wedge. If things are feeling a little tight that day I will probably go for the pitching wedge and take a little off of the swing.

The hilarious thing MSG says 'it's okay if your 115 shot goes 118'. I'd be estatic if my 115 got within 10 yards on a good day. 20 yards +/- shot is my regular dispersion. Let's not talk about mid/long irons/woods😂

  • @kerryrobinson3782
    @kerryrobinson3782 10 місяців тому +1

I don't get it. Tip 1 was never use your 120 yard club when you are at 120? Why bother practicing to know your distances, and then disregard that info when you need it? Tip 2 was never do anything different other than your normal shot at 120? What?? you just said in tip 1 NOT to do what I normally do, now you are saying in tip 2 not to deviate from what you would normally do.

  • @Barneyrubble241

Every time I take an extra club I hit it perfect and blast it over the green. Sometimes that's ok, but most times I'd rather be short than long. Obviously if you're going over water or have to carry a trap you're going to take the longer club.

I have to say these titles and the message would be much better received if you said "Always use this to get your 120 yardage correct". Putting a negative thought in your mind is not as good as putting a positive action in its place in my opinion

Who cares what we hit. We as weekend warrior amateurs are just trying to get the ball on the damn green let alone get close to the hole. If it does get close to the hole, good for us, if not, no big deal.
If I am putting somewhere on the green, I am a happy camper.

You actually have the right mentality. 120 to the fat part or middle is what I do. Sometimes left, sometimes right which means sometimes close sometimes not😂. I usual birdie a par5 or two, bogey 4-8 holes and usually end up with 74 on a good day a 78 on a so-so day and maybe 80-82 on a rough day. I don’t get paid to play so I don’t get too bothered by a higher score.

SO moral of the story is, always play like you suck and going to hit it bad. Because you do. Ridiculous. If is got 120, I hit it 120 because I hit my 120 club and I am confident in my 120 swing. Guess what? It goes 120 almost every time. If you play golf believing you suck and hit it bad every time, you will. My golf enjoyment comes from making consistent shots and especially making HARD shots. I love that. Because, if I miss it, nobody is going to KILL me. I enjoy taking hard shots and LOVE when I pull them off. I don't SUCK and I play the golf game I love.

Well, I see your point, however I think there are always many more bad possible outcomes than good outcomes....hence, the title of the video. For me, it depends on the flag placement, wind conditions, lie, water/sand (if any) and my ability and confidence that day. Could be 120 yards or 80 yards. Either way, the video offers advice.😊
