- Mullaghmeen is Westmeath's County High Point, and also the lowest CHP on our list.
However, what is small is mighty, and we had an amazing afternoon walking through the forest that now covers Mullaghmeen - it's Ireland's largest Beech plantation, and possibly the largest in Europe.
There are four walking routes you can follow through the forest, with a wide variety to distance and difficulty. We followed the blue route as that was the one that brings you to the summit, and was roughly 4.5km long.
We use mountainviews.ie to plan, it has information and resources for every peak you can think of across the island of Ireland.

Lovely spot. Returned this year on a lovely sunny day. Very close to Slieve Na Calliagh, highpoint of Meath too if you wanted to repeat it when ye are back for that one.
We’re really looking forward to Meath’s County High Point! what we’ve read has been fascinating. And I suspect we will definitely go for another walk here afterwards 😄

That looks a beautiful woodland walk, especially in Autumn colours, I bet. Value for money in terms of climbing anyway :). Lovely guitar music to accompany as well...but I am biased in that way, being a picker meself !
