Hi, recently found your channel. I am no longer a diehard comics collector but it's always a fun topic to return to and learn more. Anyway... I am the collector who owned the Miracleman 3D #1 2D version that sold at auction in 2013, so if you have any questions, ask away.
I have a digital (3.5 floppy) comic from the 90s called Coven, which states it's the first ever digital comic book distributed. Not sure there are too many of them.
I have a rare book for you, and I'm sure it's only desired by certain collectors , but Knights of the Dinner Table is an amazing comic book that came out back in 1994 by Alderac Entertainment. The comic book is based on a group of nerdy friends who play Dungeons & Dragons together. I believe it originally came out as a small comic strip in Dragon Magazine. My brothers and I grew up playing AD&D so we always looked forward to the little comic strip in the magazine. I believe the print run was less than 3,000 copies, and when I checked the CGC Census they only have 56 copies listed. I am sure it's for a niche market , but it's still a great book AND it's actually rare. Love your channel man !!
I have 1 of only 6 CBCS graded Spider-man #1 with the copper lizard error variant, 9.8 grade. CGC doesn’t recognize the error. Found it at LA comic con a couple of years ago (went through 30 copies before finding it). Continuing to search ever since and never found another one. There is a slightly more common blue lizard variant (40+ graded copies).
I personally have slabbed 7 of the blue lizard variant, sold them all except for a 9.6 . still chasing the 9.8. Very Interesting about the copper lizard , I heard there was only 2 and sales were sketchy as it seemed the same one was bought and sold between the same 2 guys. . id love more info on your copy . Incidently most of the Blue lizards were thought to have been shipped to the UK , estimates are at less than 1000 with most undiscovered.
The only sales were raw copies a while ago. No graded one (as far as I know) has ever been sold. CBCS only started grading this variant a year ago. There was a CoMo Comics UA-cam video about this a couple of years ago that gave some interesting background information.
there is one Archie your official store club magazine from 1949 existing, it was smaller than a normal comic and was supposedly given out in shoe stores but I cant confirm that. its graded a 9.2
Silver Surfer 4 Spoof Variant. Someone touched on this in their video a couple years ago. It is such a myth yet, with proof that it exists. It was quoted as believing that there was only 4 copies made. “One Moment Later” series. Not sure if its as real as I want it to be even though I screenshot a copy on ebay August 11/2022. Still a scarce/rare cover I would love to have.
I was in a bidding war for that Venom Lethal Protector on What Not. It wasn’t full white though. I let it go for $100. It was worth $800 then. Who knows what it’s worth now!
Nebula 3 (2020) was found by one guy who apparently bought a box that had it in there. He sent it to CGC so it should be on the census. The series was cancelled after 2 issues so this never made it to market. Maybe it was an advance reader copy, or part of a test print run that was supposed to be pulped?
Great topic for a video James. I have a few obscure Golden Age comics from long-defunct and forgotten publishers, printed around the end of World War II, that are rare but not worth much: rare doesn't always translate to valuable. It is kind of mind-boggling though to think that these were printed in their hundreds of thousands and today only a few hundred may exist.
I have seen a white Venom that I know was real because I took it out of the case when the book initially released. I received 3000 copies of that book. We had 7 or 8 black covers. I remember the owner sold the black covers for 100$ at release and sold the white cover to a customer for 500$.
My rare grail is a copy of Babyteeth #1 the goat skin variant. Theres only 25 of them and even then I think each one is a bit different. I could be wrong though. My fav from the vid was the Swamp Thing issue. He's one of my favs so it was fun to see some representation.
Hi, James. Double Action 2 and the Marvel Mystery and Captain America Comics 128-pagers are super tough :-). Giving a shout out to old school, golden age rarity that is rare due to attrition 🙂
Wow, surprise that I have one on the list. The Universe X Spidey DF Sketch Recalled. The sketch variant recalled is actually rarer than the cover variant.
Another one I think there are only a few of them as they had to be custom ordered and most people were weirded out by them. But Babyteeth #1 had a variant you could order that was made out of actual goat skin leather and inked in blood. I've never seen one ever.
I am not sure how rare it is but I found a Prototype 1 by Wildstorm the 2nd Print Jim Lee sketch variant. I didn’t know it existed so I got it pressed and cleaned and is the only 9.8 and the other copy was SS series at a 8.5. Might be rare Jim Lee variant or maybe not. Either way I like the cover a bunch
Would Adam: Legend Of The Blue Marvel No. 1 be considered rare considering how small that print run was? I have only seen one copy in all my time collecting.
I have the regular edition of Bloodshot 0 and I have the regular and gold foil editions of Venom: Lethal Protector 1. The best thing about the gold edition of Venom: Lethal Protector 1 I have is where I found it. In a $5 and under box.
Was the Venom: Lethal Protector #1 white copy supposed to be a gold foil version in which the gold foil didn’t adhere to the cover - and the black cover copies are the regular red foil versions where the original red foil didn’t adhere to the cover?
Rare!?! I have something interesting that's hard to categorize. I have a Peepland #1 (2016) that I got from the cover artist himself Tomm Coker (it was his comp).. the cover was solicited as #1D but never released to the public. Titan comics must have decided not to use the cover. I don't know how many copies were printed. I would guess maybe 5. Besides the copy I got from the artist I've never seen another copy. If I sent it in to CGC how would I even list the book...as an Artist Comp? I've reached out to Titan but never got a response. And the artist has no clue besides the one comp he got. Definitely rare book.
Printers proofs are DC Comics Cover/Back Cover only no story! There extremely rare because the proofs would go to the editor for final approval. Only “1” were made and editors would thumb tack them to their walls.
The rarest Spider-man book that most don't know about... "Spider-Man Comic Book Reader". Only 7 CGC graded, with the highest being 8.5 (I own one of the 8.5's) I believe these were used in schools as a learning tool, and were either ruined by use, or thrown away after use. Not many exist, as I also believe the 7 graded are the only ones known.
Had a friend who bought one of those bone claw wolverines... he brought it back to the store and asked to swap it for one with the "proper front cover" 🙈
8House Arclight #1 Image Expo variant only 4-5 got out to the public the others were destroyed only 1 on the CGC census and I own it. I was the one who submitted it for grading. There is an article on the recalled Comics website about it.
So one my video game comics fits this. Skybound X #1 1st app of Clemintine in comics, big clutch variant. I asked Big Clutch himself and there were only 75 printed copies, mine is one of the few 9.8s.
Cool books, I love this stuff. Great to know. I know and own one comic with fewer than 100 copies. Unlike the books on your list it’s a Golden Ager so you’re not going to find it anywhere. The 15 cent variant of Batman #2 1940. 3 on the census and last I knew, they are the only copies known to exist.
Supposedly the copies of Silver Surfer No. 4 were made scarce when the truck going east ended up in a lake while the West Coast truck made it but now the number cut in half. Cool cover and I sold it. Idiot me.
I wish I still had my copy of Doctor Doom's Revenge, a free comic packaged with Paragon softwares PC game of the same title back in the day. An awesome game on floppy disk. Definitely check it out if you get the chance
I can't stand all the new manufactured rare books you see on Whatnot these days. Just cause you only make 10 foil Pooh comics doesn't mean they are worth $50 plus.
THE NEW RARE BOOKS IN EXTREME RARE IS...THE INDY'S 1980'S BLACK & WHITE BOOKS THAT EQUAL THE GOLDEN AGE SMALL PRESS COMPANIES. WITH INDY LOW PRINT-RUNS & CHEAP ART & QUALITY- THOUSANDS OF THESE BOOKS WERE THROWN IN THE GARBAGE. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO BOUGHT MANY LONG BOXES OF 1980'S BL & WH'S & FILLED A GREEN COMPOST BIN WITH '80'S BLACK & WHITES.THE NEW HOLY GRAILS. VERY RARE.
I can honestly say I still can't retire, lol I have a couple rare books, nothing this rare though. I have an Uncanny X-Men 297 Gold Pressman CGC 7.5 that was the only Pressman variant that came with a mail voucher with the X-Men Board game and Thor 337 CGC 9.8 Signed by Stan Lee (Ony 1 signed by Stan Lee, okay I'm reaching but it is the only 1, lol).
Eastman & Laird's Goobledygook ( Vol. 1) micro print run and $$$$ Dell 15¢ test market copies from 1957-1958. I'm currently intrigued by a recent pickup I made of a Batman 300 cover error version. The blue ink doesn't fill up the word "Batman." Lastly, from 1950, the 10¢ price variant of Captain Atom by Nation-Wide. It was a 52-page 5x7 comic that sold for 5¢. But there was a price variant. I own one and have only found one other known copy which was slabbed by CBCS. I don't think I own 1 of 2, but so far I can not find any other extant copies.
"SOLD for 5 thousand, 1 hundred and 500 dollars." 😂 Just busting balls, James. Good video.
Nice catch 😂

Just stumbled on to your channel in my feed. Great content.

I remember drawing my own comic book back in 6th grade. Rarest one I can think of, 1/1.
I can almost remember the comic my friend and I created back in 6th grade. Ditto
I’m loving this type of content please keep it up
I mean if I’m collecting Swamp Thing I’m gonna now have to look for the tentacle issue😂 awesome video as always!
I'd love to see a video of your take blank covers and artist sketches on them.

@@omarnagi3489 Thanks very much for the info my friend , Ill check it out. Im very jealous of your find . Congrats 👍
I still find old stuff that hasn't survived or turned up more interesting than modern "off" printings.
there is one Archie your official store club magazine from 1949 existing, it was smaller than a normal comic and was supposedly given out in shoe stores but I cant confirm that. its graded a 9.2
Is that the thing from LMC?
@@robertt9342 yes
Damn it James. I'm a comic collector not a doctor!
Subscribe, like and comment the video 🤭
Wonder how many of the Turtlemanias are going to get resubmitted for JSA slabs now?
I don’t own a lot of comics since I’m new into the hobby but the coolest cover I have so far is a silver surfer with some type of holographic cover
Silver Surfer 4 Spoof Variant. Someone touched on this in their video a couple years ago. It is such a myth yet, with proof that it exists. How about Motion Picture Funnies Weekly? 1st Sub-Mariner. I know it's Golden Age, but you asked! Keep up the solid work my dude! Thanks James! 🤘🏻
I remember one popping up on ebay years ago, but it's the only one I've ever been aware of.
I was in a bidding war for that Venom Lethal Protector on What Not. It wasn’t full white though. I let it go for $100. It was worth $800 then. Who knows what it’s worth now!
I think I found a Superman #500 error one time, but it didn’t look real. Still kicking myself for not getting it.
Might be fun to do a video on errors that are more possible to find but with some value
Recalled ones must be pretty rare but great video thanks!!
Thanks for more great insight. Have to make it down to Sentiment Depot soon.

Love those TMNT!
Love that Robin comic in your video ❤ very cool! 👏
Love your video. So informative. Thank you
Hi, James. Double Action 2 and the Marvel Mystery and Captain America Comics 128-pagers are super tough :-). Giving a shout out to old school, golden age rarity that is rare due to attrition 🙂
I was secretly hoping I had one haha
How about multiple covers? I've heard of double and triple covers, but are there any quadruple or quintuple cover error books?
Wow, surprise that I have one on the list.
The Universe X Spidey DF Sketch Recalled.
The sketch variant recalled is actually rarer than the cover variant.
What are your favorite rare comics that you’ve come across.
I find your show very valuable. I had a good time just watching an old auction
Love the channel. My choice would be Captain America Comics Canadian Annual.
Great video! I love these, so informative
Another one I think there are only a few of them as they had to be custom ordered and most people were weirded out by them. But Babyteeth #1 had a variant you could order that was made out of actual goat skin leather and inked in blood. I've never seen one ever.
That seems like it would be difficult to preserve.
Now to begin the hunt for these let's goooooo! Thx bud
This was awesome. Thanks man!
Glad you liked it!
Awesome video. Always on the look for that venom.
0:14 For some reason, I really enjoyed this shot of James sliding his paper over.
Back 25 years ago sold a number of the test market priced comics...now may have to see if I have that Cap book still...
I'm more a Golden/Silver Age collector these days but as a longtime Swamp Thing fan I'll be checking out the New 52 run. Great video!
Very interesting. Not very familiar with current rare editions but I recently read that Vendor #1 AMC theater edition is quite hard to find in 9.8.
This was a great video and I might have one or two of them, but I cannot get to my comics to see.
Would Adam: Legend Of The Blue Marvel No. 1 be considered rare considering how small that print run was? I have only seen one copy in all my time collecting.
I have an art proof metal cover of Tarot Witch of the Black Rose #5 1 of 2 printed with a gold cert card if that counts.
Good stuff James
I have the regular edition of Bloodshot 0 and I have the regular and gold foil editions of Venom: Lethal Protector 1. The best thing about the gold edition of Venom: Lethal Protector 1 I have is where I found it. In a $5 and under box.
Was the Venom: Lethal Protector #1 white copy supposed to be a gold foil version in which the gold foil didn’t adhere to the cover - and the black cover copies are the regular red foil versions where the original red foil didn’t adhere to the cover?
I have a couple of the direct edition, recalled edition and the corrected edition, in my stack ❤❤❤❤❤great video thanks stay safe always ❤️💯♿️🙏👍
Not less than 100. But just reviewed a collection w 3 of the turtlemania special 1a covers.
Just checked my copy of Swamp Thing and nope it's the corrected version.
Can't forget about that Wolverine 102.5
Rare!?! I have something interesting that's hard to categorize. I have a Peepland #1 (2016) that I got from the cover artist himself Tomm Coker (it was his comp).. the cover was solicited as #1D but never released to the public. Titan comics must have decided not to use the cover.

Definitely rare book.
My new favorite channel ❤
Printers proofs are DC Comics Cover/Back Cover only no story! There extremely rare because the proofs would go to the editor for final approval. Only “1” were made and editors would thumb tack them to their walls.
Have a Spawn #2 missing the black ink on the cover, not sure it rare but I haven't seen one.
How about Batman / Grendel the silver moon / platinum moon variant. Only supposed to be around 25 of those as well
Had a friend who bought one of those bone claw wolverines... he brought it back to the store and asked to swap it for one with the "proper front cover" 🙈
8House Arclight #1 Image Expo variant only 4-5 got out to the public the others were destroyed only 1 on the CGC census and I own it. I was the one who submitted it for grading. There is an article on the recalled Comics website about it.
Putting these in the memory bank for future reference.
Nice video ❤❤❤ fan from Italy
Thanks for the ìnfo..sadly the Ernie would be the only one I would chase...if I had unlimited funds...
So one my video game comics fits this. Skybound X #1 1st app of Clemintine in comics, big clutch variant. I asked Big Clutch himself and there were only 75 printed copies, mine is one of the few 9.8s.

How about Ultimate Fallout #4
1:25 Djurdjevic Variant. The comic is split into three stories: "Spider-Man"
Turns out it’s not that uncommon. I know ow someone who has 15 copies
I like finding recalled editions. The manufacturered rarity of some newer variants are not as exciting
Great fun video - I’d offer up the Elseworlds 80 Page Giant? That’s tough. Thank you.
My cousin has a Venom LP white variant he got directly from his shop in 1993.
Who knows maybe that’s real!
got my wife into collecting comics and now she watches every one of your videos with me lol
Silk #1 Comics Pro Gold background is supposed to be limited to 100 copies.
it is so hard to remember the key issues to look for let alone the misprints! *head explodes*
Supposedly the copies of Silver Surfer No. 4 were made scarce when the truck going east ended up in a lake while the West Coast truck made it but now the number cut in half. Cool cover and I sold it. Idiot me.
Aren't there like a ton of ashcan edition comics that are very low print run and hand numbered?
Yes! Check out my Ashcan video - one of my best videos
ua-cam.com/video/ZkZ0dlJSfLQ/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Mint-HunterComics
I have a White Widow #1 Spider-Man #1 Homage Metal Cover. They said there were only 25 made
Many of these mentioned rarities have a very niche group that would want to own them.
I wish I still had my copy of Doctor Doom's Revenge, a free comic packaged with Paragon softwares PC game of the same title back in the day. An awesome game on floppy disk. Definitely check it out if you get the chance
Wow!! Didn't think that there were so many errors out there.
Error books are fun to me.
Why does the Gold Turtlemania get a CGC green label?
They used to not authenticate already-signed books. Ironically just this past week they now can authenticate meaning yellow labels incoming!
Excellent video.
Miss Fury #7 blood red ultra edition is limited to 75 copies
I can't stand all the new manufactured rare books you see on Whatnot these days. Just cause you only make 10 foil Pooh comics doesn't mean they are worth $50 plus.
Great video!

I have that number Captain America, but not THAT one. Darn😊
Very nice. Thx
I can honestly say I still can't retire, lol
I have a couple rare books, nothing this rare though.
I have a 1/1 Ryan Browne Art book. That counts, right?
i'm still shocked at how much buried treasure there is in comics.
Super rare!
Eastman & Laird's Goobledygook ( Vol. 1) micro print run and $$$$
Dell 15¢ test market copies from 1957-1958.
I'm currently intrigued by a recent pickup I made of a Batman 300 cover error version. The blue ink doesn't fill up the word "Batman."
Lastly, from 1950, the 10¢ price variant of Captain Atom by Nation-Wide. It was a 52-page 5x7 comic that sold for 5¢. But there was a price variant. I own one and have only found one other known copy which was slabbed by CBCS. I don't think I own 1 of 2, but so far I can not find any other extant copies.
Thanks for the info. Happy hunting.
Another great video.
Great books
