Those are my rankings exactly same as yours brother! I loved Jani and always ran into him in Hollywood in 2008 & 2009 he looked great everytime I saw him and I had no idea he was struggling. He smiled and talked to me always and I even remember his girlfriend. I played a Toys for toys gig in the Valley and I can’t remember if it was 2007 or 2008 but my band was “Storyteller” and after the show Jani said that I was a great singer in the dressing room to me ..that comment lived with me until this day he was so kind and loving person. Thank you for sticking up for Jani and all the Warrant videos you put out brother! God Bless and thank you for serving and protecting our Country ! Much love and gratitude is not enough 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏👊👊👊
I just want to say thanks hair metal guru for getting me back into Warrant. I always loved and owned their debut album and when Cherry Pie came out i barely liked their singles they put out not enough to go out and buy the album. Over the years i listened to it and nothing grabbed me. When Dog eat dog came out i heard the 2 songs they put out as singles and still nothing grabbed me but after watching this video i went back and listened to those 2 albums and played them over and over and they finally won me over . I bought both albums! Dog eat Dog is awesome and also Ultraphobic won me over a little bit. Having you describe the back ground on some of these later albums made me realize how much darker they are and all the shit Jani was going there which makes sense. Thanks Guru!! Cheers from Dallas. By the way Im from eastern Montana and grew up and hour away from Williston,Nd!!
Yay! A channel similar to mine! Welcome to the YT Creators club! Subscribed! PHENOMENAL first video and explanation of albums! Dog Eat Dog is also my favorite Warrant album!
Awesome video! I've been getting more into Warrant lately, I've heard the first three albums before but I just picked up a copy of Dog Eat Dog, and it's PHENOMENAL! I still need to listen to the rest of their catalog!
So happy I found this channel… I saw Warrant last week here on Long Island.. the brought back so many memories... I forgot how much I love Jani back then.. So I'm researching all about him now.. My heart hurts even more, but I appreciate all you have shared.
Guru you rule! Great insight on one of my favorite bands. Warrant is awesome especially the Jani yrs. Can you do a dokken album ranking with original lineup
Absolutely spot on video. The rankings are what I'd have them as. Mr. Rainmaker is very underrated and Machine Gun should’ve have been the Dog Eat Dog single. I tried Ultraphobic and it didn't grab me outside of Stronger Now. This has encouraged me to give it another listen. You don't like Subhuman Race (I think it's okay) but weirdly enough the last person I got into Skid Row thinks it's their best album which is wild to me.
I totally think Mr. Rainmaker should've been a single and a radio hit. As far as Ultraphobic, since you like Stronger Now, there's another amazing ballad on that album called "High." I talked about that in the ballads episode. Ultraphobic is definitely an acquired taste--it's easy to see that there's grunge influence all over it. But it's catchy as shit, and the lyrics are amazing. The first rock songs I'd recommend on it are "Chameleon," "Ultraphobic," and "Ride #2." First time I listened to it I was like, WTF are you guys doing? But I've grown to love it. As far as Subhuman Race--holy shit, I try to listen to that thing a couple times a year, and outside of "Breakin' Down" and maybe "Eileen," it really does nothing for me. haha
@HairMetalGuru419 Should've been a single. I like some grunge songs. I'll have to check those songs out and the album again. I hope it sticks this time. I probably didn't give it enough of a chance. Yeah I couldn't believe it. I was like that wasn't how I thought that would go. Because add in My Enemy and I'm pretty much with you. I'll listen to the rest but those three are the songs I really like off it. He likes grunge more than hair metal though. I try not to hold it against him 😉.
LOVE the Tuff shirt. Spent a ton of time with Jorge and Mike (he lived across the street). Enough that the logo is tattooed on my arm (with a black shadow).
Cherry Pie is #1 to me because of the memories from the time in life. #2 Dog Eat Dog Best written album by Warrant #3 DRFSR I could listen to Big Talk everyday and not get tired of it. #4 Ultraphobic and #5 Belly to Belly I have got to find the interview or whatever it was where Jani said he actually wasnt sorry he wrote Cherry Pie, he said he was having a bad day the day they filmed that.
That was good stuff! Now i know at least 3 Warrant nuts in this world. I agree with about everything you said but I'll tell you the 1 album that has stood the test of time for me and thats Ultraphobic and idk why. If you turn out to be a huge Poison fan we might Bff's
Ultraphobic should have been massive and remembered much better! Sadly not so it remains a hidden gem at least to myself and a few others I have found!

@@maxconstar7731 ultraphobic was only getting press from metal edge magazine. i remember going to buy it, and the record store having one copy. even when i bought it, they never backfilled the stock afterwards. i tried all i could in 1995 to get songs from it played during my high school sporting events, or even at dance's! the record was fantastic. i played a lot of songs in the car for friends, and they always loved it, but were so turned off when they heard it was warrant. that mentality drives me nuts, and i have to imagine the band worse. jani said that they got a lot of college radio play, but it clearly didn't lead to album sales back then.
I was finally able to see Warrant for the first time this week. They were one of the only big hair bands I hadn’t seen. They were amazing and interacted with the crowd. High energy and very appreciative to the fans, and seemed to love it when you knew all the words. Btw your review on Sleaze Rocks back in the day has always stuck with me, the tribute that wasn’t. It made me take a good look at their library and appreciate it.
Its a shame you didn't discuss the cover's records two new songs. subhuman and face are among the best songs that warrant released without the original lineup. while i love all of their output (not big on the mason era albums, or born again), i would say that it was a shame they never did a record of orignals with billy morris on guitar. the guy was crazy good.
For me 'Dog Eat Dog' is their best and it can stand its own against any other Hard Rock albums of that era. Nice review, enjoyed watching it. However, calling your channel 'Hair Metal Haven' is not a good idea. When you call a band 'Hair Metal' , it doesnt make them look cool, it makes them look lame and ridiculous, meaning they have got nothing to offer beyond bighair. Jani Lane certainly had a lot to offer beyond hairspray. Calling your channel 'Hard Rock Haven' or '80s Rock'n Roll Haven' might be a better idea, you can reach more people without any negative stigma. Rock on 🎸🎸
Hey, I appreciate the view and the words of wisdom! I considered that quite a bit before I started the channel, but I decided not to run from the term "Hair Metal." I know in some circles it has a negative connotation, but I've decided to embrace it for better and worse. Hope you come back for more!
@@HairMetalGuru419 It will never be cool to say you like bands that care more about their hair than their music. 80s rock bands had wild hairstyles but they were first and foremost hard-working talented musicians. 'Hair Metal' channel may attract a few 80s nostalgia loving midddle-aged guys but it will also stigmatise large sections of the rock community, as most people don't wanna associate with something that sounds lame and ridiculous. Terms like "80s Hard Rock, Hard'n Heavy" etc are better choices if you want people to respect these bands & reach out to a bigger audience. Just saying 👍🎸
@@LuchaLibertaria I never claimed that the bands care about their hair more than their music, and I think my video makes that abundantly clear. I happen to be a major fan of "hair metal" bands, I love the music, the image, and the attitude, and running away from the term seems to be a little offputting to me. I see why some people don't like it, but I feel like it can be embraced in a respectful way, which is what I plan to do with this channel. @@HairMetalGuru419 'Hair Metal' literally means that these were 'hair bands' - bands that put image over talent and substance. Cherry Pie is another great one! my favourite of their Glam/Hair period. Dog Eat Dog is pretty nice especially Machine Gun!
