Man, I've tried a few of these, they sound KILLER!!! I was THIS close to buying one years ago. Personally, I prefer it loaded with 6L6's. But it's all personal preference, right, The KT88's sounded a bit harsh to me. I don't know whether it is because it's pulling more current out of the transformer. Maybe it was just how it was biased I don't know. But yea man, this thing absolutely CRUSHED!! That sounds phenomenal!! I'm going to have to get one lol.
I really appreciate vids like these. I have said for the past year my next amp will be a Quick Rod to add some JCM 800 flavor to my amp roster (Peavey 5150, Prs Archon 100 and Marshall Jcm 2000 DSL 100) but this Nitro intrigues me. Willing to bet some down tuned death metal would sound so nice through it.
One of my favorite tones I ever got was when I was working at a shop that sold Splawns. I ran a Nitro and a Quick Rod together and it was just ridiculous. Those two paired together sounds ridiculous., especially with an overdrive in front.
What mods do you have on your splawn exactly? I have a quick rod with KT88 that I absolutely adore and this video sold me on the nitro. So please tell me your exact specs so I can order the same thing through Scott. Thank you!
Keep it. I sold my Nitro and regret it every damn day. But it was a financial emergency and i sold it with the caviet that when HE sells it, he has to come to me first. However, i did not sell my Quickrod as I just purchased it brand new. Big mistake selling my Nitro. They are carnivores at the top of the food chain.
Hey man! :) I know it's an older video but if you read this, quick question, what the mid and Old/New switches do on the Nitro? I know what they do on the QR, but not on the former. Thanks! 🙂
Both of the splawns are much better than the Marshall amps. The gain structure is much more sculpted and there's a lot more clarity and less fizz in the splawn amplifiers.
you could have asked, the answer is very simple, keep it 😏, I think it is one of the most aggressive amps especially if it comes to the vintage-modern sounding amps, so it is definitely unique in a way BTW imho some splawn amps like more vintage sounding cabs - the mids sound fuller and highs are smoother, less thin (with some cabs the amp may sound piercing/hollow)
oh and I also recall that it sounded interesting with Mesa 2x12 but equipped with EVM12L speakers. That sound was pretty HUGE, very wide frequency and bass heavy, not typical guitar tone ;) but this is for fun/experimenting or people who like clear/active system bass frequencies
Congratulations. I'm glad you enjoy it. If I still have access to that amplifier, I can try to shoot it out with some other amps if you want. I'm pretty sure motor city guitar sold it though.
You probably had the Competition. The Super Sport has the clean channel, but without the treble and bass knobs so it shares the EQ of the lead channel (which has 2 gears vs 3 of the QR). The Competition is only the QR lead channel with the 3 gears. It's dryer sounding the the Nitro indeed!
use tonex to make a profile (which you will share with us) then...sell it!!! win win solution. you can still use the amp in your computer using tonex...smart, right?
Absolutely killer tone. Love that amp. Can't wait to see your tonex video. Been on the fence still over getting one. I have the plugin on my computer and still not convinced with any of their amp tones they have. I love modern metal tones so need a heavy tone and Nueral dsp delivers that for me. So we shall see. 🤘🎸💥
Thanks for commenting. I can't wait to get the video finished for you guys. It's taking a lot of time to get it done unfortunately. You'll see why when I release the video.
It's a well-built amp, but it doesn't do anything special compared to many other amps. I would SELL it. But you know me, I would sell at least HALF those amps in your collection. 😆
The NITRO is a amazing amp but i don't like it the way you EQ it. Sounds like a fixed wha tone they way you set it. too 80's metal like the band Fifth angel or something.
I think Splawn should spell his last name like this: S P L A H N. That way we can Yell, "Splahn! " And then crash the Enterprise and beet the krap out of Benedict Cumberbatch. Just saying that kinda publicity might attract more people to his website to view his amps.
Dude, love your videos. I looking to get a new amp. I wanted to know if you had an opinion on the Splawn Nitro vs your Diezel? I have a chance to get a DMol at a good price or get a new Nitro. I'm like you in that I love amps that feel great under the fingers, fat thick and juicy. I hear Diezel is king in that regard but I love this demo of the Nitro. Plus it can do classic rock. I found a classic rock dude that uses the Splawn as his main rig. It does a lot! I'm torn between Nitro and Diezel. I worry a Diezel would be too metal or I dustrail sounding and may not do classics as well. Leads need to be thick, chunky and greasy. I use my Bogner Shiva for leads but I need another amp that does the chugs, thick leads and also the classics. This guy...great vintage tones on his Nitro. ua-cam.com/video/oJ6Ut-H2QdY/v-deo.htmlsi=GeaZbfmOBpvG6pml
Thanks for commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. I think the splawn is going to be more your speed for what you're looking for. I hope this helps. The Nitro is splawn's metal type amp but it can do the classic stuff as well.
@@TONEWARSgearshow Would you ever call a Splawn amp, stiff? I've heard this about Splawn amps compared to others like Bogner and Friedman. But that could only be the Quickrod which I think you mentioned compared to the Nitro. I don't like amps that are too stiff or dry.
Man, I've tried a few of these, they sound KILLER!!!

The Splawn is worth keeping!!!! Keep it , its straight up! Crunchy and clean channel sounded very clear and crisp!

I got a black star ht 40 Watt it sounds great
I was hoping you would say sell it bc I was gonna buy it!! I really like it. Gotta find one just like yours.
Thanks for commenting. I'm pretty sure that motor city still has the one that I initially reviewed in stock.

Oh yeah. I'd love to hear that
Im late to the party ..... What will a Nitro 100 sound with EL34 ? May less low end , maybe more high end . Just curious.😅
I did own a 20 watt Friedman jj junior

The old/new switch is VERY subtle. The B + switch is awesome! It adds a little compression for a great feel.
I like the sound of the Quickrod better. That would be the Splawn for me. How does it compare to Marshall JCM and Silver Jubilee amps?
Both of the splawns are much better than the Marshall amps. The gain structure is much more sculpted and there's a lot more clarity and less fizz in the splawn amplifiers.
Love the Nitro! And Scott! And the Quickrod! and and and...

That amp kills... That's another one I'd like to buy some tonex captures of.
Am loving the new Hiwatt super 50(thanks for the recomendation) would be cool to have you shoot it out with the stealth 100 watt \m/
Congratulations. I'm glad you enjoy it. If I still have access to that amplifier, I can try to shoot it out with some other amps if you want. I'm pretty sure motor city guitar sold it though.
Very good compression, for that alone I would keep it!
Amp sounds killer!! Great work!!
Thank you!!
These videos are so fun to watch. Love em. The splawn sounds amazing, very close to my Fryette.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video
@@TONEWARSgearshow thanks for making them.
@@realtruenorth my pleasure
Keep it. Sounds amazing !
That's the plan!
You should do a shootout between Nitro and Trinity. Both are incredible. Thanks for these videos man but you did make me buy a Nitro . 😂
I had a splawn super sport i think. I did not like it. Was very dry. It was supposed to be the quick ros without the clean channel.

Oh it's a seven string lol. Ooops lol.
B standard

I wouldn’t sell the splawn

Sell it and get a Wizard MTL MKII EL34
I really wanna try one of those amps. Some people say they are all hype, some people say they are amazing.
@@TONEWARSgearshow only one way to find out Jarrod 💪🎸
Why in the world you would ever demo this beautiful amp or any other with a “mud killer” pedal is beyond comprehension, you lost me right there dude
Capture it with ToneX and ditch it 😅
