Love my Nitro! every show I’ve played, the sound guy always ends up telling me It’s the best sounding amp he’s had on his stage. These amps bark with some serious authority on stage.
Scott splawn will build an amp the way you want it to a point if you call him and discuss beforehand you will be blown away trust me. I had several quickrod amps, all sounded and felt different. My 2009 was my favorite
Splawn's FTW! I had a Nitro and a Dual Rec, the Nitro got all the thumping power of the Mesa but with more clarity and actually cut through the mix, which I couldn't say for the DR. I still own a Quick Rod & Pro Mod \m/
That's sweet tone with the strat! Wicked with the PRS, evil squeal in the beginning though! You've got a great gallop! Thanks Brother! Thanks Troy! BE WELL!
Thanks Leon! This vid helped me dial in my AX8. The Nitro is one of the few amps that Yek's guide lacks info for. I was using the Nitro 2 model and wondering why it was too bass heavy. Switched to Nitro 1, upped the power sag to 4, and now that amp is killing it!!
I see you with the legend... MUFASA. 👀 No amp in my 12 years of owning the nitro has hit harder or CLEANER on stage. Nothing. Uberschall, Herbert, 100w JMP, JCM800, SLO100, 5150. It has torn everything up at every Harmony Central amp fest I've been to. The clarity and articulation it has while just making your eyes water is like nothing I've ever heard before. Mine isn't allowed on stage anymore. It's extremely difficult to control the power and it's sheer ability to literally erase the other guitar player and bass player from the mix. It needs extremely high quality/gain preamp tubes to avoid that noise when you really push the gain up.
What is interesting is, if you flick through the video fast, the lamp on the left seems to flicker a little. This indicates there is a little sag going on in the amp. Unless something else is causing it. But my experience is, this is usually an indication that the amp is sagging.
I personally would like having a clash between some Engl models and Rectifiier because I like Engl tone in general but there`s a specific bass response in Rectifiier , very low kind of hum the one hears on palm mutes. However it doesn`t make sense when mixing as it wiil be reserved for bass guitar anyway. But it should be good to play alone
Sounds amazing! Weird thought, would you ever consider putting out a video on "rock player blues"? You always throw amazing blues technique when demoing clean channels on rock amps and I think you severely undersell your blue playing! A great step for rock players who want to expand their horizons!
I traded a Panama inferno 100 for a splawn nitro 100 el34. I absolutely adored it. A seriously massive thunderstorm sound. I miss it. It was traded for a KSR Rhodes Orthos 100
That's wild; someone sent me a flyer from back then which had Ragdoll playing a bill at the Whiskey with Ratt or something. We played there in '14 and '15 and it totally tripped me out. Pretty awesome to know you were in that band!

I had a mesa TC-50 triple crown that is mesa’s take on a (Marshall) british amp. Man that thing cooked ,especially with a boost out front.I paired it with a bogner v30 4x12 and it was crazy good. I ultimately sold it cuz i had one bad show with it where it sounded muddy, but honestly it was probably the room...lol. Of course i regret it,but im curious now about their 100 watter.if you get one demo it,id love to hear ur take on it. Or really, any cab comparisons are always interesting. Pssst.....I know your a hardcore recto guy like me,(but i love my marshalls), i heard a rumor mesa has another rectifier in the works, from a pretty good source.hope its true.
Man, when I was looking for my next amp, the Nitro, Quick Rod, and the Diamond Phantom were my top three that I was looking at. I ended up going with the Diamond, but the Splawns still have a special place in my heart haha.
I like the higher gain of the Nitro better than the Quickrod. However, Wizard seems like the best amp tone on the planet for high gain in spite of cost.
Awsome demo man!!! It definitely looks like one of those amps that you get that euphoric feeling from playing. I’ve been meaning to ask you if you’ve ever messed around with any bogner stuff? Like the Uberschall or Shiva? Like the splawn, they’re definitely secret weapons and often overlooked.
I own the Uberschall. The gain channel is awesome for metal riffs, leads, and stays articulate at loud volumes no matter how low you tune, yet it sounds great in standard tuning also. The cleans of the Uberschall are ok, but below what you would expect for an amp in that price range. It's ok for a metal band's clean tone. The Uber is quite good with leads and the effects loop is transparent. I recommend the Uber.
Shine is nicely crafted melodically and has a bit of give and take in the structure which keeps it interesting. Letting Go is probably my fave, mostly because of the riffs and syncopation which is fun. It's almost a bit Nuno Bettencourt ish.
I love this stuff. Also why I love orange-- they take the Marshall thing but give it their own spin.. and even if I dislike dual rec, this seems like a fine balance. I don't remember if axe has an amp sim for this splawn either, but I'm pretty sure quite a few models would get close with tone matching.
The Axe has both OD channels modelled and they sound pretty good. I've done a tone match and they sound really close; as expected getting the low end right was the challenge!

I agree... Yeah, I knew the gain was not near the same... I was meaning more like in the voicing living in between a JCM800 and a Recto like Leon said in the video. But recognize that just the fact that the Splawn runs KT88 makes it a different beast all together.
Midrange content; the Soldano has more high mids than the Nitro, which has more of a low mid growl to my ears. The nitro has way more low end in there too!
I have a Pro mod and a Nitro. They sound nothing like this! I have the first generation Nitro and I do believe the very last Pro mod to leave Scott's shop. @@LeonTodd There's a lot more going on with Splawn amps than we initially think. I own multiple Splawn Quickrods and also had a Nitro. These amps are hand-made by Scott Splawn himself who by the way is a killer guitar player. These are 1/2 the price of other "big name" amps such as Friedmans. Scott seems to love race cars as his channels are called "Gears" and the amp names themselves follow a race car concept. Very cool! The "Gears" (Channels) are basically modded Marshalls....they sound like the mods people would have done to their stock Marshalls back in the day. So Gear 1 (channel one) is basically like a modded Plexi. Gear 2 is like a modded JMC800 and Gear 3 is like a modded Marshall 2000 or newer.
